351  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: TS3 L&P on: 2008 December 19, 07:16:03
I think I saw that, something about the BBS not allowing links to the booty because of it hosting TSR/The Store content or something to that effect? I'm hoping that's just something limited to BBS retardedness, and the speculation beyond that is just rumors gone wild.

Well, the booty doesn't host store content, not that anybody on the BBS is necessarily intelligent enough to understand that. The idea of EA potentially pairing up with TSR is flat-out appalling. Not only would they be suppressing a huge amount of their community by saying "only the people we approve of are good enough to create custom content for your game!", but what about all the younger ages that play the Sims? There are plenty of 12s out there who certainly don't have money to go out and pay for new custom downloads, especially on top of the already fairly pricey game itself.

I certainly hope you're right about rumors gone wild. However, EA has grown increasingly money-grubbing recently, and every time I think they've hit rock bottom they find new lows to reach.  Roll Eyes
352  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Sims3 spec on: 2008 December 17, 17:50:05
Those specs sound a lot more like I was expecting.

A lot of people right now can't afford to build a new box, so I wonder if the sales of TS3 are going to be anywhere near what they are projecting. One of the nice things about TS2 was that the base game would run on lower end boxes at the time. My computer at the time was a couple years old, but it still ran the base game and UNI on med-high settings just fine.

Agreed. I'm also pretty skeptical of their projected sales for TS3, more so because of the specs than Securom. I know several of people who play TS2 that either just don't get what Securom is, or haven't run into problems with it on their system yet. Particularly for people who aren't particularly tech-savvy, they may not even *know* that their computer problems stem from Securom. On the other hand, none of my friends (including myself) are hardcore gamers, and buying/building a new computer just to the run TS3 is out of the question. Even for those who don't know/care what Securom is, if the demands for the game are too great, they'll just stick to what runs on their computer.
353  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: M&G Pre-order Bonus? A Bench? on: 2008 November 24, 01:27:22
AHHHH! Reading comprehension FTW! You are the second person to reply to this thread and link that other bloody thread. The previous person deleted their post because they realized their error.

That would be me. Smiley And yes, as someone else pointed out, I deleted my reply because the download for the bench worked fine when I used the code, but then I realized that it appeared to contain the planter again. However, I didn't try installing it in the actual game.
354  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: No Modular Stairs Next to Wall on: 2008 November 23, 19:59:15
Oddly enough, I've noticed this same problem as of late too. Move_objects on doesn't appear to do me any good-- I still get the same message.  Huh

ETA: Okay, just in case anybody else has the same problem I did with move_objects not working (maybe I was just lucky?) exiting and reentering the lot, THEN entering the cheat did the trick for me. Not sure why it mattered, though.
355  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Store Stuff on: 2008 November 06, 15:57:33
Well, I went to purchase the rest of the missing furniture items, but when I went to buy points, I got an "error occured" message three times. Meanwhile, going to my card webpage, I have three charges. Guess I get to fight with EA in the morning about getting my $ back, as I don't want to spend the total amount I was charged. F-ers!

Typical EA.  Roll Eyes Let us know what they say.
356  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Invisible apartment neighbours. on: 2008 November 01, 21:22:37
The problem: All my apartment neighbours are Invisible. I can hear them and see doors moving but I can't see them and I can't hover over them and click on them.
All other neighbours and townies are fine.

This is intentional on EAxis' part. Whenever you play an apartment (even if the other neighbors are playable) you will only be able to see the family you are currently playing. If you want to visit them and have a decent enough relationship with that family, click on their door and choose "knock". You will then be able to see inside their apartment as long as you're visiting them.

This was not what I ment though. Smiley

My apologies, I misunderstood the problem. Smiley

358  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: I Can Has Ceiling Tiles? on: 2008 October 15, 20:25:39
Yes, but they're just a bit shy sometimes. Go up and down floors a couple of times, toggling ceilings on and off as you go.  Eventually there will be a eureka! moment when you're on the floor you want to be on, and the ceiling is showing too! Smiley

Hmmm. I will have to try this and see if it works in some of the premade Maxis-family houses... I've noticed that since installing AL, I can't get some of the Pleasantview houses to show ceilings.
359  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: My sim's wife is a sekrit furry! on: 2008 September 10, 23:11:42
What's her job? I'm pretty sure there's a job available (the sports one, I think, though don't quote me on that) that has your Sim wear the llama outfit to work. I've noticed that sometimes Sims wander around community lots in their work outfits, which would explain the outfit change.
360  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: TS2 Store Stuff on: 2008 September 07, 18:30:40

i have created a sims store folder, but i don't have the ea download manager. and i'm afraid of having it because of securom and everything. besides i'm not from the us, nor canada, and well, even though troglodite said we can download things from sims 2 store even if we are not from the us or canadá, i don't feel comfortable downloading that program... can't securom mess up our computers sometimes?

That's an understatement, yes. If you've read the Securom removal thread and don't feel comfortable getting it off your computer, I would strongly suggest you avoid putting it on there in the first place.
361  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Modify a Custom Eye Package to make a Default Replacement? on: 2008 September 02, 21:56:38
I followed this tutorial to make my own default replacements. Easy as pie, even with limited SimPE experience: http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,8005.0.html.
362  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Apartment Life: Obligatory Hate/Love Topic on: 2008 September 02, 21:53:25
I won't disagree with you though, it's typical EAxis crap that is bound to be rarely used by any players.

Luckily, fanseelamb's got some default replacements up on MTS2. They're here if anybody else hates the EA originals as much as I did: http://sumomo.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=299307.
363  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Urgh; AL townies breeding like rats! on: 2008 September 01, 22:32:12

I personally don't mind ugly... because I play realistically and there are ugly people in real life.. so, it all works out... but it's the same archetype faces over and over again.  I breed my sims to townies, I want to keep the gene pool diverse.  How is this possibe when they all bear the same faces over and over again?

What really kills me is the randomness of it all.  I've never seen a fish lipped, tan skinned, orange corn rowed man in a kilt named Holden Tang in real life - I don't want to see it in the sims.  On the other hand, I liked the Nightlife downtownies - why can't they design more template characters like those?

I don't know if you're interested or not, but I recently downloaded Spookymuffin's face templates (available here: http://www.insimenator.net/showthread.php?t=75472) and they solved this problem for me. They're diverse enough to be realistic, but aren't as drastic as the default ones. Of course, the downside is that only new Townies will be affected by them.
364  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Oh My! I think EA might have done something smart for a change! on: 2008 September 01, 21:39:14
If the people that noticed change have dual core, that supports my theory. If not, it's back to the drawing board.

Edit: What about ATI cards? I have an ATI Radeon X1600 video card. Do you guys have an ATI card, because possibly that is behind it!

Windows XP Home SP2
iMac Intel via Bootcamp
2.16GHz, 0.98 GB RAM
ATI Radeon X1600
All EP's
No SP's because their not worth it.

I'm running a dual core laptop with all EPs (minus BV because I didn't like it) and an ATI Radeon X1400 video card. I was surprised at how quickly the game loaded after installing AL; however, I upped my RAM to 2g over the summer and it may simply have been a result of that.
365  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: New laptop user, some questions on: 2008 August 30, 07:54:48
Thank you thank you Smiley I shall buy one tomorrow. I'm gonna get a little lap top desk on wheels too. Maybe. Hmm. It might not have room for a mouse. But the laptop on the top of my lap is getting old Smiley

Invest in a cooling pad (I'm speaking from experience here) and make sure the air is circulating underneath-- sticky notes work wonderfully for this.Avoid setting your computer in your lap for long periods of time, and you definitely do not want to play Sims that way. Usually there are vents at the bottom of the laptop that keep it from overheating, and placing it in your lap blocks these vents-- it's one of the fastest ways I've found to cause a laptop to overheat. (For me personally, this resulted in lots of crashing.) Technically, laptops aren't supposed to run the Sims, but I play most of the EPs fairly smoothly and with next to no heating issues.

Additionally, I've found that disconnecting from the internet and disabling my antivirus when I play seems to help. In fact, disabling any non-necessary processes at all seems to help with the potential overheating problems.
366  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Apartment Life Borkiness, or how i ended the world in 1 hour. on: 2008 August 29, 13:56:10
Well Belladonna isn't flat like I initially thought. One more useless hood to be added to the list.
*removed pic*

I have the same problem, but with the Downtown. Is this a known bug? Never had this happen before...
This has happened to me as well, in Strangetown. The house next to the Grunt's house is sunken a bit and there's a huge gap between the two houses. I figure simply moving the house and moving it back will fix it, but I can't be bothered to try it yet.

I also had this same problem pre-AL, with the same house in Strangetown. I tried moving different families in and out several times, and never did manage to make that gap go away.
367  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Arrred games? on: 2008 August 21, 06:31:51
These are probably two obvious suggestions, but I'll add them anyway: always read the comments on a torrent before downloading. If there aren't any, I usually err on the side of caution and look for a different one. Also, you aren't able to register an ARRR'd game on the official site. I know this sounds so obvious it's redundant, but I've read threads on other websites where people seemed surprised at this. *shrug* The Pirate Bay seems to be a relatively safe site for torrents. I've downloaded a few games and television episodes from there and haven't gotten anything dangerous yet.

Also, I'm interested to hear about other people's experiences with Comodo. I tried the most recent version, and it kept asking me so many questions that I finally had to yank the thing off my laptop. I did like the version prior to that, though.

ETA: I forgot to mention Peer Guardian. I'm not exactly sure how much good it does, but I've been using it for awhile now and haven't run into any problems yet. Link is here: http://phoenixlabs.org/pg2/.
368  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How long does Louis Aspir live anyway? on: 2008 July 31, 06:44:24
uh-oh.  I haven't heard of this before just now.  What are the sypmtoms if this happens?  And can it be avoided by just not making any clothes?  That kinda sucks.  Is there no fix?
There are no visible symptoms, until you try to patch, then you discover your core packages are FUBAR.

What kinds of problems does this cause? Other than not being able to patch, I mean. I've definitely had a few Sims make custom clothes already.  Undecided
369  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: TS2 Store Stuff on: 2008 July 01, 20:58:21
Fatkitty-- sorry to confuse you, I was looking at HP's hair download when I typed that. Glad you got it sorted out.
370  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: TS2 Store Stuff on: 2008 July 01, 20:11:47
Ok now that I have re-downloaded the clothes its all good. They managed to not get corrupted this time. There might be a bit of bloatware on them because EA bundled all the hair and clothes I purchased into one file so I went through and deleted the hair files (what I could recognize anyway) and I also changed the outfits to everyday and formal because the dresses really needed to be in formal as well. That means that the males vest outfit and dashiki are in formal wear too. Ah well more formal wear for the hippies! Enjoy Smiley

http://rapidshare.com/files/126385039/SC_Hair_Outfits.package.html

I can't open that with 7-zip nor can I double click it.  What the heck do I do with it?

http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm

Opens fine with WinRar. Or was that not what you were asking?
371  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: TS2 Store Stuff on: 2008 July 01, 07:01:40
Anyway, they have fiveheads.

That was the first hair to go after I had taken a look at them all. Smiley It would actually be a relatively attractive hairstyle, if EA had not felt the mysterious need to double our poor Sims' foreheads with it.

Thanks for uploading these, Simsbaby! You couldn't pay me to go near that EA store.
372  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: The new version of Securom demonstrates just how borked it is (Mass Effect) on: 2008 June 16, 22:43:12
Does anyone know if this is the version they're including with Apartment Life? Because I don't see any way that the limited installs would work at all with TS2 because of how badly programmed and buggy the game is in general. Plus, there's the fact that EAxis is always telling people with problems to reinstall the game, so this could get really bad. I can just see all the angry people complaining because they can't play their game anymore.

You know, that is a really good point. EA might be forcing themselves into giving real tech support, god forbid!  Wink

Seriously, this is such a terrible idea that I can't even fathom why anyone would consider it. If Securom hadn't already pushed me into the ARRR-ing territory, this "limited installations" idea most definitely would.
373  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: A Hack to Replace the Cheat on: 2008 May 08, 01:06:43
Just add it to your user startup cheat file... you'll never have to enter the cheat again. Smiley

I *think* that the pulled FT patch puts everything back to normal because I just had a Knowledge/Popularity Sim receive a green marriage memory.

All right, I'm a little confused about this, so I figure this is a relevant thread to post it in: the patch DOES solve this, then? Why did EAxis pull it in the first place if it actually fixes something for once?
375  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: considering getting more expansions, seeking advice on: 2008 May 02, 13:22:45
I have to second (third? fourth? how many times has this been suggested?) the Seasons idea. It's by far my favorite EP and, IIRC, the least buggy. Also, the gardening/fishing thing is a blast, and if you like keeping your Sims at home, it would probably appeal to you quite a bit. I lost interest in Pets pretty quickly and BV entertained me for about one vacation. After that, I was at a loss what to do with it.  Wink FT, while it has a sort of nice idea, didn't seem to match up with what they *could* have done with it. (Especially since you don't get that many instruments, and would need University for full potential, I think.) Though if you enjoy keeping your Sims on their home lots, the ability to do hobbies might appeal to you.
