Question for the awesome ones....
« on: 2006 October 20, 03:29:57 »
THANKS THIS IS GREAT

For those of you that have your hand in modding and have gotten a look at the Pets object.package, how much does this expansion break change the code? Reading threads here and at other sites, it sounds like everything is fubbared a little or a lot if you you use mods and custom content.  ....But, in a lot of those threads, I'll see later posts where the person complaining about a problem still has mods in their game "assuming" that those particular mods couldn't be the source of their problem.  Roll Eyes

From what I've read:

  • custom careers are fubbared
  • custom foods are fubbared
  • custom beds, couches and everything else that a pet might use would have to be updated for a pet to be able to use the object
  • several threads have noted problems with jewelry not showing up...not so concerned about jewelry, but makes me wonder about Crammyboy's "jewels" and whether that awesome accessory has been effected
  • have seen some reports of problems with Monique's computer and DocDoofus's lot limit mod....I need both of these on almost every lot I have.(  ...psst...Brynne - any problems with the number of sims on your lots?)

I was all ready to run out and get the game, but I cannot play a vanilla Maxis game anymore - *must have* mods and custom content in my game.

So, from the perspective of the modders and from *knowledgeable* mod users (ie, the people the actually RTFM and check compatability with other mods and game versions)......how good/bad is this expansion as far as breaking mods and custom content? Does it seem like *more than usual* is broken with this expansion or would you say it is like the *usual* Maxis fubbaring that we deal with for each expansion?

I couldn't even run the game. Errors all over the place and I finally just uninstalled it, and then reinstalled everything but Pets. Tongue

Yes, I was a dork and left a couple hacks in that DO NOT GET ALONG with Pets when I ran it the first time. That was stoopid. But I have to have them in my game, so...I'll just hafta wait.  Undecided

Hmm, I heard careers are fine. I have a couple in and while I haven't tried them since installing ZOMGPETZ1111oneoneone the lots load just fine and nothing has exploding (like they did when uni came out).

Thanks! Smiley

No, it's not a sim. I just started working with Daz Studio and doing 3d graphics. That's a self-portrait I did earlier today. You can see a few more I did here:

Motoki, did you try getting your pets careers? I heard that what breaks about custom careers is that they interfere with the pet career deale-o

I cautiously put LotFullOfSims back in last night, and nothing went haywire on me yet. I have 9 Sims and 2 pets currently on the test lot, and the dogs were able to try for puppies. I'll go back in now and see if it explodes when the puppies are actually born, though.

Crammyboy's "jewels" are showing up. Though, I've not yet tried clicking on them to see whether they're "functioning" properly.

Puppy was born without any errors popping up at me. In fact, I haven't seen a single error since I installed.  Shocked

I'm ok so far, but I'm still at the vanilla stage of my game.  I'll start adding in JM's pet hacks first.

the training "use toilet" for cats doesnt seem to work using custom toilets; the action only seems to work with Maxis toilets in my game
(Ive tried on 3 different lots and same result)

Isn't that what you'd expect? - the custom toilets are going to need updating to add the new Pets actions.  Head back to wherever you got them from or junk them.

Same with couches, beds, and tables and whatnot. I couldn't get my small dog to jump on a custom couch.

My sister just took a picture of a cat sitting on a cutom, pre-Pets counter. I think it depends on the object.

Well, I for one am glad the the custom couches, beds, counters, etc. don't work for the pets. I despise animals on the furniture, even more when it's a sim animal obsessing over it. As a matter of fact I just shoved my real sleeping kitty over the edge of the sofa. Hmph!

Oh, I agree, I hate that too. The cats get the old newspaper to the head when they do jump on the furniture. We just thought it was funny that it could interact with a custom object when Maxis mad such a fuss that they couldn't.

Besides, nearly all my houses have custom funiture anyway, which I would NOT redownload so the dog could plop his nasty behind down on it.

Only errors I've seen since installing ZOMGPETZ1111oneoneone have been that my Sims tend to jump out of the "chat online with.." computer interaction if instructed to chat more than once in a sitting and that a Sim using the bathroom or potty training makes my Legacy lot lag like Hell. I killed almost all my hacks pre-install just in case and I'm about ready to purge most of my CC furnishings (I hate my loading time -_- ).
