1  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: New Patch 1.10/2.5/3.1 on: 2010 February 14, 21:30:37
Even if I change the SKU entry in the registry from 2 to 1, I can not use the Region 1 patch.  Region 2 patch works fine for me.  Your problem may simply be an issue of patch version - try a different version.

The SKU in registry says 2, and I used the Region 2 patch.

I am positive the only problem is with the skuversion.txt file. I had been behind in the patches, since I wasn't simming for two weeks or so. The 1.10 update stated I still have version 1.8.25.003002, and would not let me use the 1.10 patch. When I try to run the 1.9.22 patch updater, it said "Invalid File Found" with the skuversion.txt.

So, used the 1.8.25.003002 patch update installer, hoping it could fix the file by repatching. It states immediately that 'It is already installed, do you want to install anyways?'. I clicked yes, since this is what I want and when it arrives to the point for the skuversion.txt file (you can see the file names flashing by in the installing bar, the MTS patch log viewer also stated this error with the txt file: err0031) it comes up with "Invalid file found". Now, the later patches can't even load because they immediately say it requires the 1.8.25.003002 update and that it is the wrong update version.  I haven't had any success in manually editing the skuversion.txt to say 1.8.25.003002. or even changing it to say 1.7.9. It just starts installing but then it comes up to the point with skuversion.txt, it gives "Invalid File Found".

Replacing the file with a bin folder someone uploaded (just that file, not the entire bin!) didn't work either. Going to have to reinstall for a single text file?  Undecided

To be honest, I don't know if maybe it's another line in the text file that is wrong, I'll post what it currently is saved as:
Quote
GameVersion = 1.8.25.003002
Code:0.RL-2.0.79
Asset:1.Content.rl.10
Thumbnails:1.Thumbnail.dl.1173
TCC:1.TCC.dl.2052
CiderVersion#003332

I realize there is a space behind each line, and a space between GameVersion = number. That seems to be concurrent with the skuversion.txt file in the WA folder (which hasn't been modified at all, I have yet to patch the expansion).
2  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: New Patch 1.10/2.5/3.1 on: 2010 February 12, 21:11:32
Check to see that you are using the original .exe file and the original TSLHost.dll in Game/Bin instead of a crack that came with a torrent.

No, I stopped using modified files/cracks when AM allowed no-cd checks. The only thing I can think otherwise of, is that the launcher broke a while back after WA. I never really bothered to fix it, since I don't use it. The launcher still opens, but new content and previous content could not be installed anymore. So, I moved my .dbc files to load with AM. All of that is safely out of the way on the desktop. The launcher is blocked from internet access, I have been downloading/ installing the patches manually. Not using the stupid EA Downloader, I'm out of ideas. The correct version is displayed in the launcher, likewise skuversion.txt, code_version.txt, and version.tag. What else could be considered an invalid file?

Edit:
I used the patch log viewer at MTS, it's saying there was an issue with skuversion.txt. Unfortunately, I have no idea why, because it looks legit and I haven't changed it. Will go to search to see if anyone uploaded a more recent bin folder on the forums.
3  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: New Patch 1.10/2.5/3.1 on: 2010 February 12, 20:11:34
I get an "Invalid file found" error when trying to patch. It does not say the name of the file. I removed framework and all content, as well as cleared cache. Not using any modified .exe either.
4  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Looking for Sims 3 creators/websites offering Worlds, Sims 3 machinima, stories on: 2010 January 18, 19:31:45
Things will start picking up when we can implement custom animations and pose command objects like TS2. There's a pose command for the camera function in WA but otherwise I can't get my sims to stand still for a group photo, let alone make a decent machinima video yet.
5  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Custom-stock library bookcases? on: 2010 January 15, 14:20:40
The only skillbooks are in the kids' section, the novels are in the study area, etc.
All the store set bookcases for children spawn Level 1 knowledge books.  Can this be changed with an XML?
6  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Is it possible to uninstall sims3pack stuff with current patches? on: 2010 January 13, 01:32:24
The iron fences stay like that on low detail, try changing graphic settings then zooming in.
7  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: MOVING DAY POLL! on: 2010 January 11, 21:43:07
Why not just clean out the site? Are you willing to do that?
Based on what? Stupidity? Or the easy way, date of registering?
I would suppose to wipe out everyone who registered before 2009 November 26, 03:36:26, not caring how long the lurked around here and did shut up when others were talking.
Really sorry for the double post but the "edit" function is out of order.
For sure, we should delete all accounts before 2009 November 26, 03:37:00 to get all the dummbarts out of the system, including myself.

Deleting accounts wouldn't save bandwidth. The forum is still accessible for public view. You don't need an account to see most of the sections of the forums. Every request to access and download a website's data is what eats at the bandwidth limit.

Have you tried evicting them and moving them back in in Edit Town mode? Maybe that could reset the residency status?

No, you can't edit town during a move either. I will just go back to an older save. Hopefully, it won't happen again.
10  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Awesomod discussion/questions/helpful tips thread on: 2010 January 09, 00:39:38
I just moved my family to a new house using the telephone. It's been two Sim days, everyone is in their new home but I still can't use buy/build mode. It gives the error that Build/buy can not be used because the move is still in progress. I tried using "fixall" but it's still like this. What else could I try to do?
11  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Create-A-World Tips, Tricks, and Annoyances on: 2010 January 06, 15:37:47
Is the water inside of the lot where the deck resides? I've had fish successfully from the foundation before.
12  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Create-A-World Tips, Tricks, and Annoyances on: 2010 January 02, 01:42:10
Latest AM makes the option for lockable doors (I think? It just started to appear?), with a few more mods making townhouses as apartments on one very long lot is possible. I have an idea pbox -if you used a new recolorable fence mesh the size and shape of a normal wall, then placed the fence on the lot edges, it could look pretty good I think. I understand your frustration though, they would still be faux walls.

Close lots are not very good for a slow computer (low RAM) though.  I had high lot detail set to 1, but since the lots are all within camera range the game seems to have trouble deciding which one to focus. This results in lots consistently loading. So I have to keep it on at least 3 high detail lots.
13  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Create-A-World Tips, Tricks, and Annoyances on: 2010 January 01, 16:47:24
Just to make sure we're really really talking about the same thing (I've had misunderstandings with others about this in the past, probably a language issue): with "next to" I mean immediately adjacent, two lots sharing one border, like so:

|  Lot1  |   Lot2   |
You can't do this, no. Create-a-crap will not let you place lots closer than one tile (of the in-game build grid equivalent) from each other.

|  Lot1  ||   Lot2   |
This works without issues, yes.

Yeah, once you see any (or all) sides your new lot edges turn red, that lot is unusable/invalid and will have to be deleted.
14  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Create-A-World Tips, Tricks, and Annoyances on: 2009 December 31, 03:09:22
Nice, it looks great. CC definitely works in CAW. AwesomeMod even popped up with the outdated message in EIG once Cheesy. When I tried to install with the launcher it did extract it to the right spot. It just wouldn't show up in game. I think the patch broke the launcher for some. Moving any .world files to the folder location I posted a page or so back in this thread will register the new world in the drop down menu for sure.
15  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Create-A-World Tips, Tricks, and Annoyances on: 2009 December 31, 00:22:57
I am considering uploading a set of custom road textures when I finish. Yeah, it was pretty claustrophobic Cheesy. The last tiles bordering inside of a lot are to be considered too in small space. Not being able to build walls on the edge of lots, I tried to leave at least two tiles around. Most of the houses there is a place to plant a row of vegetable garden plants and walk to the back.
16  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Create-A-World Tips, Tricks, and Annoyances on: 2009 December 30, 23:53:18
Are you saying you only placed a sidewalk 1 tile wide?

The limit for making lots this close is about half of a square using the CAW grid for a precise guideline. I placed the sidewalks after the lots to fill in the grass gaps. This turned out to be a bad idea. The reason I did this is because I wanted the pavement to continue seamlessly between the lots. I was hoping sims would walk back there but not all the time to get everywhere. They prefer the sidewalk to the road if you add single pathways. If you've made a custom ground paint texture, you'll notice it's enlarged, so I couldn't get the sidewalk texture to match up if it's ground paint.  I will have to use plain asphalt texture from the street.

Ideally, I want the sims to use the properly placed sidewalk at the top of the image to get to the park and walk around the front of the houses. After I remove some of the fence around the playground, hopefully if sims do decide to route through this short open space it won't look so bad.
17  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Create-A-World Tips, Tricks, and Annoyances on: 2009 December 30, 20:08:51
The more lots, the longer the saving in EIG takes.
Yes, it had taken a long time for saving EIG when I had finally completed adding buildings to all but two of the around 25+ lots on the map.  I don't understand why in CAW it shows one thing for terrain and in game another, still. When I flattened the top terrain of the mountain (To make a plateau for lots) a side effect occurs with jagged lines forming on the slope edges below. I used decorative rocks (Beach/Landscaping) to cover up some other mountain cliffs to mask the edges I couldn't smooth because the terrain was too steep- also too close to the world map's edge which might have also been why.

A note for anyone who is also making urban areas/small lots-

Sidewalks: They're detrimental to proper routing. Found placing half of a sidewalk on the edge of two lots without using proper grid spacing is a bad idea. I did not place an entire tile of sidewalk space away from the adjacent lot. Sims will run half on the sidewalk, half their body on the lot edge with head bobbing through any lot edge's fencing. It's better to use a pavement terrain paint to give a merged pavement effect for such closely placed lots. A properly spaced sidewalk alleyway works well though Sims will take this route more than road transportation if there is alleyways all the way from start point to destination. If you want sims to drive or bike to work place your residential farthest as possible from the commercial district farther and place no *real* alleyway leading there for a few hundred squares in each direction.

I don't personally mind them walking to the neighboring homes, but no one is using the road at all to get around because they really like sidewalks more.

On my last EIG save something strange happened. It just said "Error" and that the save didn't complete. Tried to save again, took a very long time. The map fades to black as it saves each lot continuously -Is that normal behavior? This second time follow up message stated it saved successfully.  Then, I noticed a hole appeared in the center of a mountain, but quitting back to CAW it's nowhere to be seen. I smoothed out the terrain just in case.  I wonder if it's only graphical glitches in raised terrain. Hood is about done, so I will export it and test now.

Edit/Update: Another question: Did anyone who exported their world use the launcher successfully to install it? I tried to use the launcher but then it still wasn't showing up in the menu. So, I moved the .world file the launcher placed in Installed Worlds to the same place I had to put Riverview in C:/Program Files/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Gamedata/Shared/NonPackaged/Worlds and it worked. The mountain still has a hole in it. I think I can't fix it unless I remove the lots on top of the mountain then redo.
20  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Swimming pool glitch after WA? on: 2009 December 29, 02:06:22
It's the advance rendering. It has to be checked for most of the pool water effects. When I had it off, my pools were pitch black.
21  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Installing pirated store stuff? on: 2009 December 28, 01:36:48
Most importantly, I plan to delete my downloads from the documents folder and the launcher to lessen this horrible lag.  Is that advisable? Will it make a difference?

If you just mean the downloads folder inside of /My Documents/ -that won't remove your launcher installed items completely. You have to also delete DCCache. If you meant the entirety of /My Documents/ -see what Drakon said. Bad idea. The operating system and most installed software relies on it.

Unless you are using the launcher to load TS3.exe instead of opening it directly, it can't affect your game's performance. Use 3booter/fpslimter, which will fix graphical lag/heating if your video card is running too hard and remove the need to launch through the launcher at all. Some reasons that there could be lag in TS3:

- Badly formulated downloaded content. Those 20mb shoes you downloaded from TSR? Trash them. I've fixed a few bad downloads using the compressor/blue lot fix tool by Delphy (Fixes some other errors also) but some user creations are eaten/disabled by the compressor. It's hard to determine what makes a creation bad, but usually if a single file is larger than other files of the same sort of content, it's your call to delete it or suffer. You shouldn't have to worry about EA Store items if that's all your custom content consists of.
- Bad Game Mods.
- An over populated neighborhood. Start a new hood and see if you have the same lag issues.
- Moving camera lag, other graphical lag, monitor shutting off. FPS is too high, use fpslimter. Your graphic card may also suck regardless.
- Too much downloaded content. In my tests with forceably causing my game to have too much content, this only caused loading screens to become much too long. You need more RAM or less content.
- CAST lag (Changing patterns/colors)- the userpreset file with your modified patterns becomes corrupt, delete it. Memory leaks with paterns may be unavoidable for some, restarting the computer/more ram might help.

None of these problems are from the launcher.
22  Awesomeware / Armoire of Invincibility / Re: TOOL: 3Booter, the Incooperative Game Kicker on: 2009 December 28, 00:27:50
I wanted to make a sort of request/suggestion on the plausibility of FPSlimter usage with CAW. More specifically, with edit town in-game mode to cap the frame rate. Is it possible at all to mod CAW to cap the FPS when it loads TS3 with a sort of CAW booter? Editing the map in-game for even a short time (30 minutes) causes my computer's temperatures to rise and graphical lag because the FPS is back to 93+.
23  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Lag due to (possible) sound file? on: 2009 December 26, 22:50:12
By chance does closing the Realtek service (rthdcpl.exe) help the lag? Ctrl-alt-del to see if it's open under processes and use end process on it. I have a Realtek card but I turned the service/software to disabled in startup. The Microsoft volume control panel will become usable again after it's turned off.  It's completely unnecessary for playing audio with this card, and just idly eats your resources. The equalizer options in the Realtek software doesn't even sound good, having it on interferes with some games.
24  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Getting a new computer - advice needed! on: 2009 December 26, 21:38:13
I guess it would help if I knew anything about graphics cards but I find searching for advice on the internet rather worrying
The internet is a great source of information. Of course you have to use judgment of which sites to use to be sure you're getting proper information and not advertisements. I think if you truly want the satisfaction of knowing you are not being ripped off, learn the jargon at least. It might seem daunting, but it's the only way you'll learn what it means. I would have never learned English if I just kept crying, "It's too hard, I'll just let someone else speak for me!" every time I read something I didn't understand. Computer terminology is just as important to learn as any other subject in today's modern world. It really stops being complicated once you give yourself a chance. In fact start here, it's a computer dictionary: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/glossary/
25  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Installing pirated store stuff? on: 2009 December 26, 21:26:48
I've been installing new store stuff using 3Viewer. It will extract into package files, but it automates the process for you. Also allows you to rename the files and view the preview image before installing. Define in the options where your folders currently reside (Or use custom installation). It will extract the .packages to the proper locations based on content, so downloaded sims will still go to saved sims and so on.
