226  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Why are they fighting? on: 2005 September 18, 13:35:32
I had taken a sim on a downtown lot to buy clothing and I noticed several of my other CAS-made sims FIGHTING over and over!!  These two obviously did not hit it off, I guess! LOL  One of them was a male who I'd made very hateful, and the other one was a woman who I'd made a very nice family sim.  And it seemed that she was antagonizing the mean guy.   Shocked  It was entertaining after the 1st three times watching, but pretty soon it got boring and I started wishing I could call the cops to break it up or something.  LOL
227  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Rant: Hacks are ignored by Nightlife on: 2005 September 18, 13:27:27
I saw a post in Merola's forum that his mirror and painting still works...

They work fine in my game.  I've tested both.  Smiley

But Jamie happened to look at my laptop as two sims jumped under the covers, and he asked what they were doing. Now, he has Asperger's, and is extremely literal. If I would have told him what they were doing, he would walk around school talking about sex and going "honk! honk!". And I'd get yet another note from the teacher.  Grin

ROTF Brynne!!  Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt.  Wink  When Allen was in 2nd grade, he drew a big stick figure, put two round circles on about where her shoulders should have been, and wrote "bobies."  His teacher was horrified.  I proudly put it in his babybook.  "Ahhh, look, Al's 1st porn, and his 1st dirty word."

Apologies for hijacking this thread.  Carry on.   Wink
229  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Nightlife bugs on: 2005 September 14, 02:41:02
The YA Sim I am trying to marry off is a CAS-born sim.  I have always been able to "Propose:  Move In" to a YA to get them to move into a neighborhood lot.  They go through the whole "grow-up" spin-turn and then can walk straight to the wedding arch and say "I do."  I've done this with both CAS-sims and NPC's.

Graphics:  Think I fixed it:  I updated my drivers.  Duh!!!
230  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Nightlife bugs: Problems I'm having on: 2005 September 13, 23:03:23
Two things that are bothering me with Nightlife that I haven't seen noted yet.

1)  Move-in option for a UNI student is gone when I try to move him in with his Adult Pregnant fiance in the neighborhood. (Hey, it's time he leave UNI and be a man!!  He knocked the girl up!!  Wink )

2)  This one really bugs me, and I'm not sure that there's any fix for it.  Suddenly, my Graphic's Card is not strong enough to give me the desired preformance.  I have a NiVidia GeForce 5500.  Hubby just upgraded it when I got Uni.  It was working wonderfully.  I could see the Cinematics, I could invite 8 people onto a lot with no slowdowns.  But, now all that is gone.  Sad  My Cinematics are gone, and I can only invite 3 or 4 sims over for a party.  My game had even turned off mirror reflections, but I was able to turn that back on.   I know that Nightlife is a major jump in graphics since we can now see the neighboring lots, but I liked having my little special movies.  Sad
231  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Nightlife: Censor Blur won't die!!! on: 2005 September 13, 03:20:57
Here modders, is what Maxiod Tom said on The Sims 2 Community Forums.  It goes over my head.  so, without making this a big discussion in Jack Thompson and Politics and Perverts and whatever, can someone just explain to me the ignorant one what he's talking about, and it it's possible to fix this?

How about I post what I said and people can judge for themselves:

First post:
"A word of warning:

The two trees modified (669 and 670) in this hack have been changed in Nightlife to add more functionality (for Turn Ons/Offs). If any users decide to use this hack, the functionality for sims being turned on/off by a sim in a certain category of clothing (formal/swim/underwear/etc.) may not work--a bug which will probably later be blamed on Maxis, I'm sure.

This is because any hacks will override what shipped with the game.

Overriding global trees/functions may cause problems for future expansion packs. I strongly urge modders to take a look at what has changed in Nightlife (and for future expansion packs) in terms of global functions and what not--otherwise users may encounter problems with incompatible hacks and may not know the source of it all.

Things may *appear* to work within the limited context of the hack, but undoubtedly something Maxis added for new features or fixes will get lost in the shuffle."
232  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Nightlife: Censor Blur won't die!!! on: 2005 September 12, 13:55:58
Well, I figured that it was just a change in the globals for the hack to stop functioning.  That's just basic logic.  My concern was the the cheat code has also been disabled.   Sad  But, I knew that you hacking geniuses here would fix my game for me right-quickly.   Wink
233  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Nightlife: Censor Blur won't die!!! on: 2005 September 12, 01:41:44
Been reading some on "The Sims2 Community" forums.  There's always someone there who gets the game early, and I wasn't disapointed.  But, according to some of them who have hacks installed, the blur hack does not work, and neither does the cheat code.

I guess Jack Thompson got our game censored.  Asshole.    Angry

ROTFLMAO!!!!!!  Okay, so I can imagine this scenerio:
Load up residential lot, populated by married couple sally and stan Sim.  Wink

Sally, "Hey, honey, I visited a community lot today. . .bought a magazine."
Stan:  reading the paper "Really?  that's nice, dear."
Sally:  "No, really, it was very. . . um. . . interesting.  I want to show you something later, soon as I finish helping the sim kids with their homework and finish potty-training the toddler before she turns into a child tomorrow."
Stan, "Yeah, okay."  keeps reading paper, not notice that wife has also bought new sexy underwear at the community lot

LATER

Stan:  "Why's the bed out here, honey?"
Sally:  relaxing on the bed outside "Our Sim-Goddess saw this on a comercial once.  Only it was bathtubs, but she likes this better."
Stan:  adjusting pillows, getting comfortable "So, what did you read in the magazine, dear?
Sally:  "Come here, honey, I have a new skill for you to learn, grrrowwwl!"

 Cheesy Grin

235  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Hurricane Katrina on: 2005 September 09, 19:34:33
There's nothing wrong with receiving help when you actually NEED help. When my first husband left me, I was a stay at home mom with a 2 and 4 yr old, no income of my own. I had to apply for food stamps and to this day, (10 yrs later) it is the single most humiliating experience I've had. It's hard for me to believe that people not only willingly go through the system, they live off of it. I started doing temp. work at minimum wage, commuting over an hour each day to get to work, so that I could build up my clerical skills (I had worked retail previous to having children). Some people thought I was nuts. Half of my wages went to paying daycare and of course as soon as you start earning ANY money, the system cuts back your benefits. It's ludicrious because how does that actually encourage anyone to stand on their own two feet? Financially I would have been better off to stay at home with my kids and receive a hand out from the government. After 2 years of temp work I found a permanent position as an office manager for the company I now work for and was so thrilled when I could do without government aid. The system penalizes a person trying to actually get ahead. I do not begrudge anyone who receives assistance and needs it but it really burns me to see people who are more then happy to sit on their butts and do nothing to help themselves. Our government needs to do more to make people self-sufficient, including education and reasonable daycare.

edit:  As for the Mormons that were mentioned in the above posts, I live in Idaho which has more Mormons per capita then any other part of the country, including Utah, which is suppose to be the "Mormon Capitol". I know exactly the right-wing, conservitive attitudes you were dealing with and it's not pretty. I apologize to anyone that might offend. I myself am a Christian but cannot get behind the kind of intolderance that the Right has so embraced.

Now, see, you did it the right way.  You found the system to be humilliating, you worked your rear-end off, and even though it wasn't easy and it wasn't fun, you got off of it.  Many of the families I work with would just get pregnant again.  And the "Babies Daddies" are always these drug-dealers, or hoodlems, or child molesters, or just lazy guys who have made it their life's ambition to be "Father of the Country".  They actually create several families, never marrying any of the women.  These women are always much younger, they have self-esteem issues, lack of education, whatever, that makes them easy targets.  The guys then keep them pregnant and show up around the time these women have a check or have some groceries and they live off them and pretend to be the greatest guy in the world!  When the money is gone, the food is gone, or they get bored, they go off to family #2, and it starts all over again.   Angry Angry  I wish this behavior was against the law!!

237  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Hurricane Katrina on: 2005 September 09, 15:24:16
Witch:  Thank you for posting those sites.  I feel better, because I live in the bible belt, I'm surroundeed by mindless fundamentalist conservative sheep who love Dubbya and wish we'd just go blow up Iraq and Afghanstan to get Bin Laden and other terrorists, and pull the plug on every program that "hands out" money to the poor, the mentally ill, the disabled, on and on.  I have felt that I was the only person sane in this crazy world.  My own babysitter is a fire-breathing conservative, and she gleefully told me last November as I dropped off my son that her vote had cancelled out my vote.  Bush took NC, proud home state of John Edwards who was running for VP.  Can't even support the home-boy.   Angry

Why does this happen?  Because of many factors.  1 is Fear.  We are scared to death of the stuff we see happening around us.  Bush talks about getting tough on terrorism and crime and lawlessnes, and we want to believe him and think that he's going to stand up for good family values and moral character (remember him repeating that over and over during the debates last year?).  People even hear this preached to them in their churches, to get out and support the "Men of God" that will do away with sins like abortions and stem-cell research.  2 is Kerry.  Why, oh why, did the Democrats pick Kerry?  Was he giving sexual favors to someone (ewwwww!)?  The Republicans and the Conservatives are not the only groups with mindless sheep:  Democrats and Liberals have more than their share, too.  Kerry last year, Gore the election before, no one wants them in power, and to some people, Bush just seemed like the lesser of two evils.  The sad fact is that this country has been sorely lacking in true leadership for a very long time.  Some would say that we killed our last great president (Kennedy) and some would say we haven't had a good president since Truman or even Roosevelt.  I don't know who should run in 2008, because I have yet to see anyone I really thought would be honest and strong and make good decisions that helped everyone, not just his cronnies.  Those kind of politicians are non-existant today, and the ones really running the country are the lobbists and the Corporations.   3 is money.  Bush represents big industry and plays his politics to make them happy.  Why has mental health and Medicare Prescription Coverage been privatized on state and national levels?  Because Big Buisness, Insurance Companies and Drug Manufacturers wanted it that way.  Why are oil prices skyrocketing?  Well, Bush comes from Texas, has lots of contributers and friends in the oil business, family fortune was made in oil. . . you figure it out.  4.  Tax Breaks.  We know that Democrats have a history of "Tax and Spend" politics, and Republican have a history of tax breaks.  They cut necessary programs to do that, but we don't think about that if it's not our problem.  We just like that big check we get the 1st part of every year from the IRS.

This country has been going down the tubes since we started paying people to breed.  You know what?  I completely and totally agree with that statement, because I see it everyday.  We have a whole generation who think that society owes them something, and they will not get a job, and to keep from going to work they get pregnant again.  There is no motivation, no personal responsibility anymore.  This is why I'm looking for a new job.  Or maybe just build myself a hole in the ground in Montana.  I don't think that JMP has such a bad idea.  Wink

239  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: changing eyecolor in an established Sim on: 2005 September 09, 14:52:24
I keep trying to think of where I got them.   Sad  I remember downloading a "superpack" from MTS2 with 100 shades.  Some of them were natural and quite lovely, and other ones had cat-eyes and flags and other "fantasy" colors.  I don't remember who made them.  I just recently found Janna's website, but I have downloaded things of hers from TSR, so maybe it was her's, I'll have to go check there.

See, this is what comes from an afternoon of mindless "sims shopping" where one clicks on a download that looks interesting, downloads, and repeats a gazillion times until their downloads folder is so full it takes 10 minutes for the game to load!  LOL

If anyone wants to see how someone can screw up their game in so many wonderful ways, just come see me!!  LMAO
240  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: SimPE Weirdness - Multiple Instances of the same sim, in on: 2005 September 09, 14:38:39
Sad  See, I had missunderstood something that I had read about it being okay to package a Uni Lot and move it from one campus to another in the same neighborhoos.  I had used SC4 to terrain a new campus, and wanted to put all my YA's in the same place and try to hurry them up through UNI.  Like I said, it was stupid and I started having problems about a month after I did it, so I knew I had screwed up.  LOL  But then when I downloaded the new version of SimsPE and tried to delete out all the duplicate sims and fix the problem, things went from bad to worse and I couldn't even restore the old backups.  So, maybe it's partially my fault and partially the new SimsPE version.  LOL

Oh, well, I now have a neat new neighborhood with only 30 sims (with the exception of professors and other assorted service personel) thanks to the deleteallcharacters cheat and JMP's noregen hacks.  I also have a cleaned out downloads folder.  So, bring on the new bugs and challenges of Nightlife!   Cheesy Wink
241  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / changing eyecolor in an established Sim on: 2005 September 08, 22:19:27
I had started a new neighborhood with 30 Uni Sims and had used the deleteallcharacters cheat and all of JMP's no regeneration hacks.  My main neighborhood had was FUBAR, so I moved this new neighborhood's file to the desktop, did a clean reinstall, and then moved it back into the game.  I've been working on re-downloading my favorite custom content.  My 30 characters had default skintones, eyes, hair (or were bald!) and clothing while I hunted for the custom ones I had originally used for them.  Well, when I find it, all is well and good.  When I can't find it, or the link is no longer there, or whatever, well, then I need to find a new one.  I can't find one of my favorite custom eyecolors.  It was a soft, deep brown that looks like puppy-dog eyes.  I thought I had originally downloaded it from WDS, but I have re-downloaded all those and it didn't help.  I then thought they had come from Mermaids Cove (I love your stuff, BTW!) but still no change in those brown eyes after I re-downloaded those, too.  The next time I booted up the game, several of my sims had the blue-green eyes from MC and the lavendar from WDS, but the browns didn't come back!!  It must be that exact file, and I can't find it!

I am happy with the colors I have from WDS and Mermaid's Cove, and could use the deep brown from those sites.  I don't want to keep downloading packages of eye colors that I don't really need, seeing that I'll start downloading new stuff from Nightlife next week.   Tongue  So, how can I change them ingame?  Can I use SimsPE and change their DNA?  Or a hack that lets you change their eye and skin-tone the same way you changed their hair?   I really, really hate the default brown eyes, and because I liked that particular shade I had used it on many of my Sims!!  So they are all walking around with these big, dead-looking dull brown eyes.
242  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What exactly causes the blank Want/Fear slots? on: 2005 September 08, 21:56:11
I experienced this for the 1st time last night.  I have many of JMP's hacks, the InSiminator, some hacks by twojeffs and Inge, and Merola's painting and mind-control mirror.  But, mine happened to a Secret Society NPC.  I used the mind-control mirror on her in an attempt to pretty her up and make her a suitable mate for one of my UNI sims.  She had no wants, no skills, nothing showing in her college, aspiration, or influence bars.  I could see her memories, and personality, though.  I sent her to class, and when she came back everything rolled and was fine.  Since this was the 1st time I had used the mirror on a NPC, I thought this was normal.

Reg, (((hugs))) to you girl!!  I've been thinking about you, just haven't had a chance to get over here and check until today.

I keep threatening to drive to some of the evacuation centers and take some babies who have been orphaned home to foster, but Hubby says that they'd never let me near them and that he'd divorce me.  I sent some baby formula and went on local radio asking other parents to do the same thing.  It was a little thing, and I wish I could do more.  I can't stand seeing their little faces on CNN!!  My heart goes out to everyone suffering down there, but the little orphaned babies!!!!!!  OMIGAWD!!!

Well, he's the only president you've got at the moment, I believe!  Comes of voting in a son of an already discredited father!  Like father, like son I say, and if father is a twit, then is it likely the son won't be?

I didn't vote for the man, and I personally do not know anyone who voted for the man.  I still believe, and will never be convinced, that he and his took the White House by hook and by crook.  I'm sorry to anyone here who I may have offended.  That's just my opinion.

I had this happen to my neighborhood!!!  I thought I had screwed it up, by packaging a Greek House and moving it to the new campus I had created.   Angry About a month later, I had several dulplicates of each sims.  I thought it was my fault!!  I kept trying to use the neighborhood browser to open a back-up of the neighborhood, but it kept giving me error messages for each sim and never could open the old back ups.  I finally did a clean reinstall.   Angry Angry Angry

Plossie, thank you for the information.  I am still a little timid about messing with my neighborhoods with SimsPE, but since my favorite neighborhood became unplayable I am getting bolder.  LOL.  If I'm just going to have to delete it eventually, anyway, why not attempt to clean it up 1st, right?

CyberAngel, I'm also having the same problem with Unknown Sims!  Unfortunatly, some of them are NOT Maxis sims.  At least two of them are my main sims!!  One of them is my favorite romance Sim, and the other one is his hillbilly wife.  Needless to say, they have lots of children together, and and apart.  LOL  Anyway, with SimsPE they will not show up in the Sims Browser.  Their children will.  When I check their relationship listing, they used to show a relationship with "unknown."  Since the latest update it will show a grayed-out icon of the sim and it says "unknown" is their name.  Even odder, these unknown sims show up on the Sims Surgery Browser!

I think that when I had to do a clean reinstall last spring, I had tried to use my backed up neighborhood SimsPE data.  It didn't work, I have no idea why.  But the sims that were in that old neighborhood and then recreated in the new neighborhood (I still had their original bodies in CAS) are some of the ones that are showing up unknown.

I'm also a huge trekkie (heh, my startrek email address is sevenofnine@startrekvoyager.com) and help moderate a Star Trek forum... that used to be full of intelligent people, but now the average age seems to be about 14 and even some of the so called adults can't type correctly. Most of the original members, the mods and admins are ok though, and we tend to now talk on messengers rather than in the forum.

hehe  Hi Annika!  Wink  Voyager and TNG are the only two Treks I really like.
I tried to get into Enterprise because I absolutely love Scott Bakula (I call my son "Al" after Al on "Quantum Leap".  Sad, Sad, Sad.)  Except for him and Trip, there wasn't much on Enterprise for me to get into.  It didn't have much of a plot-line, even though the premise was very interesting.  I guess, in a way, I feel the same way about that one as Sani Lion feels about The Matrix and Keanu.  Wink  (Which, BTW, I agree with that opinion, as well.)  Anyway, I'm sorry the Trek Boards are going downhill.

I thought he dried them out and used them for jewlery and Christmas Tree Decorations.   Wink
