Biotech Station Medicine Fix
« on: 2006 September 15, 00:44:13 »
THANKS THIS IS GREAT

The mystery of the biotech station and what it does has been somewhat resolved: Nothing. It's broken. This fixes it. See ugly techy explanation in manual. Very Jelenedra.

Biotech Fix for TS2 (all)
Made by: Flying Fish Systems (J. M. Pescado & Doctor Boris)

Special Thanks To:
Hobbsee the Scrawny Pencil Neck
Fat, Hairy-Bellied Ness

Congratulations to: Draklixa!

INSTRUCTIONS:
Place in your MYDOCU~1\EAGAME~1\THESIM~1\DOWNLO~1

FEATURES:
Fixes the biotech station medicine so that it will actually work. It was
previously broken, reading the value from the token at the index of the
token index (usually out of range, on rare occasions simply garbage), and if
the value was not out of range, subtracting the medicine from the garbage
value and writing it over the real severity value. It would also only attempt
to act upon the first disease, even if it had been cured.

COMPATIBILITY:
Compatible with all FFS Hacks. Tested for TS2OFBp1-p2.

SIDE EFFECTS:
May cause computer damage, incontinence, explosion of user's head, coma, death,
and/or halitosis.

WARNING:
Do not open, crush, dispose of in fire, put in backwards, short-circuit, or mix
with non-awesome hacks - may explode, leak, or catch fire, resulting in injury
and/or death.

So let me get this straight. Not only did Maxis botch the selling virus interaction (depriving us of a way to use it), but the cure doesn't work either?

Do they even /have/ playtesters?

That's apparently the case. You ever notice how the cure seems to do absolutely nothing? Well, that became apparent when I started doing research on the exact nature of plagues and how they work, and given my level of familiarity with Manage inventory, I noticed what was going on looked very wrong somehow. Which led me to the conclusion that it *WAS*, in fact, wrong.

Which, incidentally, a bunch of interesting options will appear in the next Lot Debugger update after I explore this next thing, including the plague-testing buttons. Right now, I'm working on a method of expunging a sim from all memories in-game in preparation for deletion. This would be able to catch things that other plugins may potentially miss, such as custom memories.

So, we can expect a custom "deleteallcharacters"?

As far Maxis, I'm sure their testers were too busy describing the horrible animation errors they had right up until release candidates to notice subtle things like whether medicine or virus was working.  Tongue

Figures.  I was wondering why my Sims could spend all day making and drinking medicine and still be ill.

Okay so the cure will work now? Cool. Any way we can have stuff to do with the virus like give it to another sim or use it to poison food or send a sim a Sim-Anthrax telegram? lol

It would be nice to make something even slighly useful out of something with no use whatsoever.

In theory, yes. It seems to drop disease severity by about 80+ points in a single dose, enough to cure most normal afflictions in a single shot, with the cure message to come the next time symptoms are checked.
