Your post reminds me of the difficulty of explaining to some people why the Romanians consider Vlad Dracula to be a national hero.  XD

"So?!  He killed people!"

"That was par for the course for the time.  The Turks also practiced impaling and if they'd been allowed to overrun Romania, would have killed anyone who didn't convert to Islam."

Oh, yeah, from what I've read of old Vlad, he quite enjoyed his sports-loved watching people being impaled, made a picnic out of it, holiday pay, the whole works. Unfortunately, the people from the Inquisition were guests at these events and took detailed notes.
Vlad the partier killed thousands of people by impalement. He took his fun very seriously!

And, further off track, are The Beards who, and I quote, only play songs about beards and having beards. Their bio is peppered with beard references. "The rhythm section of Nathaniel Beard, John Beardman and Facey McStubblington is complemented by the immensely talented frontman, Johann Beardraven." They actually sound alright, though I lack the beard required to fully appreciate their lyrics. Also, they apparently have a policy that the bearded get in free to all their gigs.

I was actually not going to post this, thought it was far too off-topic, but then 'Big Bearded Bruce' came on, on The Beards' website. "And when he walked, the beard swayed back and forth, like it had a mind of its own. And they say that he's killed a dozen men, throughout his many long years. Oh, but where does he hide the bodies? Well, they're all buried deep within his beard!" ... It goes downhill after that, though. In a face-to-beard encounter this beardless guy rips Big Bearded Bruce's beard out from the roots, and escapes with his life. All Bruce does is scream, "My beard! My precious precious beard!" Pfft.

mmmmm hmmm.  Understandable.    I love facial hair on men.  It can add (or detract) interest to their best features.  On women, it just confuses me and I stare.

In my hometown we have a resident bearded lady who is apparently quite famous (for being the bearded lady). There's a group on facebook petitioning to get her on Big Brother.

Anyway, I present the bearded lady of Guildford, for no real reason other than all the beard talk. There used to be this animation someone made of her eating a small child, but it got taken down...

No - I'm sorry, facial hair is revolting.  My earliest, most abiding (and clearly formative) memory of the horrors of facial hair involved a man who used to brush through his moustache with his fork after he had eaten to (and I quote) "get the last bits, mmmmm".  I went on strike when my husband grew a goatee.

I have (as does my selfsim) a moustache and goatee - Mrs.jolrei is fond of it, so she says.  She would likely go on strike if I shaved it off.  I do keep it trimmed and do not comb food out of the moustache with a fork.  Getting food in the moustache is a careless waste of food.  The trick is to aim the food-laden fork at the mouth under the moustache.
