Ooh!  I like that idea so much better... I'm with you - too much work, cuz I have too many pregnant sims!
202  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Maternity Clothes on: 2007 July 12, 19:06:13
I've always been reluctant to run squinge's hack for wearing anything while pregnant... I've actually never used any InSim hacks.

Wonder if this would be a 'safe' alternative... as I am seriously bored with the Maxis pregnancy clothes and since my little romance sims seem to find themselves so very pregnant so very often...
203  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Question about engagements on: 2007 July 09, 22:17:31
No, If I read that right, that quagmire is HER family and her HUSBAND married into it anyway...

I dunno about the 'no mom-in-law' thing... I've made some sim story lines involving in-laws - my favorite was where the male sim romanced both the mom and the uni student daughter, got Mom preggers, then married the uni student daughter when she graduated...there was a spectacular fight at the wedding - Mom was in attendance...  Just to pay him back for his, uh, 'family foible', his wife wasn't particularly faithful...
204  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: I need fireproof trees... on: 2007 June 29, 16:09:29
Yes.

And I never use the Uni Trellis and now I know why.

As for the OP jumping, we're in a club, I think.  It isn't a very exclusive one, though.  I jump clean out of my chair every time.

Of course, we've been having daily thunder/lightning storms here lately in real life, and they make me jumpy, too.

This could be due to the fact that I've been narrowly missed by lightning 3 times in my life... and was in a house struck by lightning once. So maybe my jumpiness is justified?
205  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Sims Evolving Meal Habits on: 2007 June 19, 21:45:54
I have all the eps and sps installed and mine still wait for food (and occasionally and annoyingly stuff face)...

So maybe it's a hack conflict thing?
206  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Second Seasons Patch is out.... on: 2007 June 14, 03:17:47
Just wondering, but does NO ONE at Maxis/EA understand the concept of a beta test?
207  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: H&M fashions on: 2007 June 14, 03:16:07
There's something mentioned about a website on one of those slick pieces of paper that come with the game...as in something's coming to that website re a 'fashion catwalk' or some such garbage.

But, I would assume that when they eventually remake Superstar for Sims2 (heavy sigh, apparently no one at EA has an original idea?), your sims should be able to model on a runway then.
208  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Second Seasons Patch is out.... on: 2007 June 13, 07:14:53
My babies are CRYING now.

First patch fixed the crying baby problem.

Installed second patch and now I've got wailing infant sims everywhere!

Ya know, I don't mind a little realism, but does every sim baby have to be colicky?
209  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: OFB_Restocking bakery problem on: 2007 June 01, 19:13:01
But does NOT work for dessert items except for 'toaster pastries'...

You can't just make a single slice of berry pie or cheesecake or layer cake or crepes suzette.  You have to make the WHOLE 6 serving item in order to make them at all.
210  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Awesomeland: Should Awesomeland Be Reloaded? on: 2007 May 18, 17:57:36
I'm new here... and I do indeed have to bow to your awesomeness... you've kept the same neighborhood going since you installed the game?

I get weepy every time I think about the neighborhoods I had to zorch on account of mass errors...

Sometimes I try to recreate my favorite sims from them, but they are never quite the same.

That said, sometimes you just need to start fresh.  So I say, why not blow it up and start over?
211  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Which EP next? on: 2007 May 17, 16:57:22
I guess I'm the oddball that actually likes Uni.

I like that they come away as graduates that have made more friends, etc.

I hardly ever use the influence feature tho.

And while I would be hard pressed to pick between Uni and Seasons, I can honestly say that unless you are just gaga over fur-bearin' critters that you should just skip Pets.  I was unimpressed.
212  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Birthday cake. on: 2007 May 16, 16:21:38
Most of the time, guests at birthday parties ignore the cake.

In fact, when I have a sim birthday, I usually have move-objects-on and I delete the cake and get the 30 simoleons back.

Only time I don't do that is if I have a neat freak sim (all ten neat points) as they scoop that cake up so fast after the candles are blown out that I don't have a chance to delete it.  They head for the garbage can with it.  They do the same thing with the champagne bottle, too.  You're lucky to get one toast before they clean up.

Party Poopers.
213  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Blank want slots on: 2007 May 15, 20:08:45
Ya mean that commercial lies?

Mac players get the same wonky game as us cloned-pc users?

Really had nothing constructive to add...

although I can sympathize...have had the adoption problems before, including the blank want slots.  And this was before I knew about this place, so I did the only thing I could think of - zorched the neighborhood and uninstalled/reinstalled the game.

Oh yeah - this was also before I was downloading anything...so was just base game...In fact, I think it was before Uni!
214  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Simchic and RabidAngel recolor? on: 2007 May 15, 17:27:11
I think the one that the OP is talking about is the one on the SimChic site.

Can't link to a single outfit (it's the way that site works).

But if you go to sim chic, men's skins, everyday, outfits and look at the BLUE BURBERRY STRIPED SWEATER file, you'll see the mesh.

It's a low rise jeans with slight bell bottom at hem and elongated sweater/shirt torso.  It's a great mesh...makes those male sims so sexy and cute...My Mansfield sisters just can't leave them alone (okay, they can't leave any male alone and you'd think they'd figure out that if they didn't have sex with every sim in the neighborhood the wives would quit leaving bags of flaming poo on their doorstep and slapping them around...)
215  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Simchic and RabidAngel recolor? on: 2007 May 15, 17:03:22
Try OpenHouseJack. - has his own site, but also posts on MTS2 and at XMSims - Simmer Valley.

And I think that RabidAngel mesh is by someone with that moniker.

216  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Share thy Bedding and Painting!!!!!!!!! Where do ya get em? on: 2007 May 12, 04:41:47
Bastdawn!  I love those quilted baby sets!  Use them all the time!
217  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Share thy Bedding and Painting!!!!!!!!! Where do ya get em? on: 2007 May 11, 18:16:01
If you want 'something completely different' (apologies to Monty Python fans), you can make you own paintings from photos from the vintage fabric that I sell...

Some of these also can make great wallpapers in game.

You'll need to resize/crop them for both the paintings and wallpaper usage as I size these for eBay item descriptions.

All I ask is that you don't hotlink elsewhere...

I think the game discriminates against player-made Sims!

Definitely.

It seems very difficult to kill Maxis made sims...unfortunately.

But with sims I've created or that have been born from my created sims - one zap and here's Grimmy!

Although, I sometimes associate this with the stupidity of the now dead sim... but Maxis made sims are even more stupid than the ones I've created, so why should they live when mine die?
219  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: OFB Business Type Questions on: 2007 May 09, 07:10:57
I know it's not awesome, but I haven't installed BRY as of yet.

I have discovered that there are some businesses that an owner can successfully run and actually make a profit.

However, most of these require the business owner to actually run the business without any employees.  Employees' wages suck all the income right outta the business.

There's a little bar in Downtown called "Lucky's Cards & Drink" or something like that.  I've remodeled it.  Put in two card tables. Every night after work the business owner goes down there and plays cards.  He not only collects winnings from playing cards but as long as he's got at least three people on the lot he makes money (installed the tickettaker doodad).  No employees, no checking in...a lot of playing poker and making friends (this is a great business for popularity types).

The other business that I have found to be extremely successful is an 'in home' gym/spa.  That business had so many customers that the lot often dragged when playing it.  And again, the money was made from the ticket-taker thing.

Want to kill your sim from sheer exhaustion?  Have them open a bakery and stock it with home-baked desserts and meals. Between the normal work of the business and the never-fixed glitch where food items don't restock and then become 'negative inventory' if an employee or family member attempts to restock an item of which there is none in the owner's inventory.  What an exercise in futility.

Oh yeah...one other moderately successful business venture - one which can have one employee (a cashier preferably) and still see a profit is a car sales lot.

Remember just because there's a 'frowny' face at 'ridiculously expensive' doesn't mean that isn't what you should price goods at.

In real life, most retail is priced at 200% of wholesale cost OR HIGHER.  Even dollar store owners - where everything's a buck?  They don't like to pay more than 10-11 cents wholesale for stock.  So if you pay a dime and sell it for a dollar, how much mark-up is there?

Frowny face... bah.
220  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Snowstorms lure Sims to the pool? on: 2007 May 08, 22:19:03
And here I thought it was just MY idiot sim.

I also thought it might be the configuration I gave the backyard, so I moved a tree and the compost bin.

That seemed to stop the getting in the pool swimming to the other pool access ladder and climbing out and proceeding in swimwear to the greenhouse in the middle of winter.

I left 4 tiles free between the deck and the pool, figured that was plenty, but then the dingy sim does this... even when preggers!

And no pool hack installed in my game.  Off to find that one...

I was beginning to think I should have just left her dead (she managed to spawn the idea to serve omelettes the morning she got knocked up and then set herself on fire doing that.  Hubby hadn't gone off to work yet so he plead for her life and won against Grimmy...)
221  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Where do you get your curtains? on: 2007 May 07, 21:10:17
Spiffy Sims has some different ones.

I adore the ones over at MTS2 that IgnorantBliss has made that will match any bedding... what a godsend those are!
http://www.modthesims2.com/member.php?u=41278

And I also use some new sheer Voile curtains found at TSR - just search for 'voile' and I think they'll come right up...how many people besides the creator and me even know what voile is? (it's a sheer cotton fabric).

Also for more decent sheers...Xm Sims and Sunair Sims (yes, Sunair contributes to TSR now, but still has website, too).

Finally found the page on Sunair sims - it's #14 Fabric Modern Living Room
222  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Cyberpunk - William Gibson style on: 2007 April 17, 05:32:09
I download clothes from so many places... I did get some stuff at the obvious places: MTS2 and TSR.

I haven't been super excited about Peggy's clothes - her hair is to die for, her clothes, not so much.

hnote.net - male clothes - some more suited for the look you're after than others.

noukiesims...I think it's Ghanima that does the goth/leather/fetish stuff and some of it might be suitable.

The Sims Artists Union at www.byus.net - beware there are some entries with music - some more tolerable than others but some nice hair and some odd outfits which may work for you even though they made me raise some eyebrows.

and try simsecrets.biz - some of their jackets have the oddest shoulder shaping (it's the mesh) and they look a little futuristic on account of that.

I love Philip K. Dick's writings, though I haven't watched the movies, suspected they'd piss me off.

I can't say I've read it all, but I've read most of his work - especially any short story I could get my hands on - even one published in a children's Sci-Fi anthology.

My favorite is "The Penultimate Truth"... can't see that one ever being made into a movie, though...

And I have seen all the movies except for the Spanish one based on Confessions of a Crap Artist and the new one, A Scanner Darkly - it never played in this town so have to wait for DVD.

I've been a sci-fi reading geek since I was about 10 years old...who remembers "The White Mountains"?  That's what started it all for me.

Anyone gonna take me up on the "Perky Pat" story?  Read it, you'll shudder and think twice next time you start the game.

224  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: I need help with skin tones, Please!! on: 2007 April 16, 18:33:37
OP - is there any chance that the skin files you downloaded are the default replacements (the horror series can be downloaded as custom skins AND default replacements).  If you downloaded ONLY the default replacements you will only see these skins when you create a vampire or zombie (in the case of the horror skins).
225  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Cyberpunk - William Gibson style on: 2007 April 16, 18:29:27
It's not a 'short work' - "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" is a full length novel.

It is NOTHING like the movie.  NO happy ending, that's for damn sure.

The movie is mostly Ridley Scott's vision of the future...the adaptation is loose at best.

Dick passed in 1982. http://www.philipkdick.com/

Blade Runner was released in the same year.

Other movies are based on some of his short stories.  Among them are Imposter (close), Minority Report (another very loose adaptation), Paycheck (again, not so close), Screamers, and Total Recall.

Dick's vision of the future is much more dark, sinister and paranoid than most cyberpunk writers paint it...

And if you REALLY want to sit up nights wondering about what it is that we are doing (re the Sims2) read his short story "The Days of Perky Pat" (available in the Minority Report anthology that was published when the movie came out.
