151  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Can you rent an apartment with a table in it? on: 2008 September 01, 18:10:53
The first apartment building I made, I did FURNISHED apartments.

When I went to move the first sims in, the furniture was ALL GONE.

So NO, you can't have furnishings in the apartments, especially because those 'missing' furnishings jack the rent up!

So I scrapped that apartment building.

I now build them unfurnished save for kitchen counters, stove, fridge, and optional dishwasher/trash compactor. Also I put in the bathroom fixtures.  Also any place I want overhead lighting - that goes in.  No other furnishings as they just disappear.

Oh, I've made enemies... sometimes on purpose, sometimes not...there's been more than a few nasty divorces, etc.

I think that the great thing about this game is that we can all play the way we want to play...and it is fun to see how others play and sometimes it gives one ideas, no?
153  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How often do you 'reboot'? on: 2008 September 01, 16:56:25
I've lost two neighborhoods...1st one was to a nasty Maxis glitch...in the time before I knew about this place.

Second one was to a nasty Maxis glitch...I think I was coming here, but couldn't save it in spite of that - it happened when I installed Seasons.

So I've got a custom neighborhood that I started with 16 college students (8 in each of 2 dorms) back when I first installed Seasons...some of the families are 3rd and 4th generation now...and I'm reluctant to play until I know it's safe.

So I started another little custom 'hood when I installed AL - not sure if I'll keep it going, or not...it's a lot of work...especially since i'll probably stop playing once Sims3 debuts...
154  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Campus of Death on: 2008 September 01, 16:39:05
Sorry, but I'd just leave 'em dead. But then, I never play Maxis created sims. Never. shudder.

When I do use the dorm concept, I tend to use it a little differently, I don't actually change the lot zoning to 'dorm'.  I make a 6 or 8 bedroom 'house' and give it the amenities I want and move students in... one thing this does is that it makes the sims cook for themselves so they grow their cooking skill.

I also use TwoJeffs college adjuster and visitor controller (there just are no cheerleaders and mascots in my game...oops) to keep the unwanted off the premises.

Basically it looks like a dorm (or a greek house) and it plays like one save for the kitchen area... oh yeah - and I don't bother with the MyneDoors...sim students sleep in whatever bed I direct them, too.

Yes, I micro-manage my simmies.
155  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: PSA: Abandonated Mods Borked by AL on: 2008 September 01, 16:32:31
Well it looks like I'm running 15 assorted Monique hacks - all are to stop annoying autonomous behaviors - including the Swing thing.
Even WITH that swing hack in game I haven't put a swing on a lot (residential or commerical) in at least 3 expansion packs...I so detest that thing.

So far, none of what I'm running from Monique has caused a problem...but again, I've got no swings in game...
156  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: PSA: Abandonated Mods Borked by AL on: 2008 August 31, 22:24:25
I am gonna cry...I swear.

Marhis - tipjarpickupmod

is borked with AL.

Just tried it twice...no worky, makes stuck sims. Can we add it to the list and if anyone wishes to take pity on me and fix it or make it better or whatever, I shall worship you forever (or at least until I quit playing this game).
157  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: PSA: Abandonated Mods Borked by AL on: 2008 August 30, 18:13:55
I think my only 'abandonated' mod left in my game is crammyboy's 'no computer madness'...and so far, it's still working - but then I have only played for a couple hours with AL installed and not on my custom neighborhood...not gonna lose another one.
158  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Did FT kill CAS tooltips? on: 2008 March 21, 17:10:05
yes, free time killed tooltips on clothing in CAS.

just like Bon Voyage eliminated our ability to delete make-up/earrings/glasses/etc. in CAS
159  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bork List: Freetime Ed. on: 2008 March 14, 03:41:30
LOSES!
It's "loses", people, not looses! Nothing is being loosed. No hounds, no floodgates.

Ah yes, one of my personal grammar peeves... along with 'sells' for 'sales'.  grrrr
160  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Hobby Guide? on: 2008 March 11, 16:29:32
Don't know of any guide - but I do know that if a sim (of any age) doesn't continue doing activities related to a maxed out hobby, they will lose 'enthusiasm' points, so you can't just max out one hobby and then move onto another and max it out, etc. like you can with skill points.

161  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bork List: Freetime Ed. on: 2008 March 08, 21:29:37
I think I'm alone on this one: My gardens do not spawn weeds ( not that it's necessarily bad) but plants and shrubs do spawn the devils. Installed: DC and TJ's updated mods. Removed: CTFG harvest/talk/compost hacks. No joy. The only other mod I have installed ithat could possibly cause this problem is the daily gardener. I will remove that next play session to see if that is the problem. :/   Anyone else not gettin' weeds?

Prior to the installation of FreeTime, I was on a tear to get rid of the f'ing lightning and thurnder (scares the crap out of me every time and it's far too frequent IMO)... so I installed and USED Paladin's WEATHER HACK - and shut the weather off.  Bad juju.  Plants no get weeds. Plants no grow.

Return weather to normal via WEATHER HACK - plants resume growing and resume weeding.

I don't run TJ's garden hacks.

So if you've got Paladin's weather hack - that could be your problem.  I still have it in game, but am not currently using it on any lot...kept it just in case the lightning/thunder thing go overwhelming again.
162  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Always twins in any pregnant. Help!!! on: 2008 March 07, 03:34:08
Yes, it makes perfect sense to me...and I believe I have seen it time and time again in birth after birth...so pretty much all my neighborhoods just back that up.

I don't need to add my longwinded explanation of babies/twins, do I?  I got so damn tired posting it over on the BBS that I finally saved it as a word doc so I could just copy and paste.

It's mainly for the noobs and under 12's over at BBS who don't understand how the game works for twins (prior to OFB and cheesecake) and also don't get that just having the same two sims try for twins over and over isn't very likely to get you twins.
163  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bork List: Freetime Ed. on: 2008 March 06, 23:21:42
Sewinglady, I have a sim with the 'architecture' career path. He uses his tinkered car to go to work(at least, when I remember to tell him to) I've never had him error out like that. I suspect tight pants. Any outdated hacks for cars or work in your downloads?

Nope, no car or work hacks whatsoever...and only this sim, the LandRover (I think from FreshPrince) and architecture...
164  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bork List: Freetime Ed. on: 2008 March 06, 19:07:54
Been mentioned even over at the EA BBS - maxed science career (mad scientist) gets a chance card and when they get home the game removed 27,000 simoleons from them instead of paying them their daily wages.

So I have 2 mad scientists in my neighborhood and haven't played either family since installing FT.
165  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Secondary Aspiration bonuses on: 2008 March 06, 19:05:37
I'm wondering if some aspirations as secondaries are more obsessive than others. With the grilled cheese aspiration being the most obsessive and seeming to completely override the primary aspiration.

I also wonder if some of this obsessiveness is related to the sims personality. In other words the obsessed secondary knowledge sim mentioned above - if they are quite shy? Would this then contribute to their continual rolling of secondary aspiration wants?
166  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Free time- attraction wierdness on: 2008 March 06, 18:58:11
Yeah, like I said - I really don't mind if this kind of overrides that idiocy with the zodiac repulsions/attractions.
167  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bork List: Freetime Ed. on: 2008 March 06, 18:56:40
I had a sim last night for whom I chose the 'architecture' career path.

He owned a car, so he went to work in it - but the car kept erroring out and he would come home, but no car and he landed in the kitchen and no wages from that day's work.

After the second day of this, I just left him with no car, so third day he went to work in the carpool (I don't think draftsman is the lowest of the levels in architecture, but it was the shitty little 1st level carpool that came for him and brought him home).  He was promoted and received his days wages when going to/from work in the carpool.

Now I have played a lot of families since installing FT and NO OTHER SIMS with ANY OTHER CAREER PATHs have had this difficulty.

Okay, on purpose, I haven't played any family where there's a sim with a science career path as we know that's borked.

But this is the first sim I've had on the architecture path...is it borked?  Is it the car that's borked (he had a custom car from FreshPrince).
168  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Free time- attraction wierdness on: 2008 March 06, 18:47:05
Actually, I started noticing this last night...

Sims are attracted to other sims with the same One True Hobby (OTH)...

I have a pleasure sim and a fortune sim married to each other - 3 bolts attraction since college so I married them off... and it's because they both have the same OTH - tinkering.

Go fig.

So now, with the addition of FT and OTHs, it seems like the hobby thing is strong enough to override repulsions that would normally exist from disparate aspirations and uncompatible zodiac signs (never liked that idea anyway).
169  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Always twins in any pregnant. Help!!! on: 2008 March 02, 18:26:53
are you letting them eat cheesecake?  The cheesecake from OFB greatly increases the odds of twins.

Another thing, just exactly HOW MANY births are we talking about in a row?

2? 3?  20?

I have had entire neighborhoods that are 'twin prone' and I never run any hacks that would increase twins or get you more than twins as I detest twins and would never want trips or quads.

One neighborhood in particular, when I first started populating it, the first 4 houses all had twin births - I was beginning to think I had something wrong when finally the 5th house had a single birth. whew.  anyway, the 1st house that was built/populated in that neighborhood turned out to have a twin producing male (yes, I know it's supposed to be genetically carried on female side)... but that male sim got around (he was a pleasure sim) and he not only produced 3 more sets of twins with his wife, he impregnated 3 other neighborhood women with twins - total sets of twins he produced was 7...and no single births.

So again - just how many sets of twins in a row are we talking here - and was there ANY sim in common with all the births on either side?
170  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bork List: Freetime Ed. on: 2008 March 02, 18:04:19
No tooltips for clothing in CAS for me.

I cleaned up clothing last night and discovered this as well.

Also, WHY are 'ONE TRUE HOBBIES' changable?

I had a child sim with a OTH of music/dance.  She grew into a teen last night and NOW her OTH is whatever is one ABOVE music/dance - something she has NO enthusiasm points in (but in her former OTH she's got 5 points).

Her half-brother on the other hand had no OTH for several days and then last night gets the same one she's had since I installed FT - music/dance - in spite of the fact that he's spent the better part of several days in the swimming pool.

I should have checked their dad - he turned into an elder last night and was an arts/crafts OTHer...should have checked to see if that was still his, too, or if it also changed upon his aging.

and bleh to how long it takes to gain even a bronze badge in sewing or pottery - how many potholders can simmies make before the entire neighborhood is burgeoning with them?  Wonder if one could gift them all to one sim and that sim could build 'pot holder house'.

Someone on Lj reported that the college adjuster isn't working, it is not on that list ...although, in all honestly, I can't tell you what else they may have had causing problems.

I have been using the college adjuster just fine since FT installation - I literally have it on all lots, so maybe it was conflicting in some new way with something else that player had installed?

I don't use Insim or any of those type mods and I don't run TwoJeffs' ACR mod, either - most of my hacks have to do with stopping what I consider to be truly annoying behavior - no buskers, no kickybag, no what's this, etc.  Most are from here.  I was also running (prior to FT installation) TwoJeffs' higher abduction odds, nobabytoddlerswarming, and the schoolbus bring a friend dialog - those are (or were, haven't checked to see if updated today) on his list of not compatible with FT so they got pulled from my downloads/hacks folder.  I did leave in a handful of 'don't do this annoying behavior' hacks from someone at MTS2 and Marhis' faster tip pickup jar hack (also from MTS2).  So far, none of these seem to be causing major havoc in my game, but this could be because they mostly just affect a single sim behavior - (I'm guessing here - I don't write code - I leave that to more talented people).

172  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bork List: Freetime Ed. on: 2008 March 01, 01:14:31
OH DUH!

That's the other bork!

I knew there was one I was forgetting to mention

At least 3 times during gameplay session last night I had sims fill 'major' wants which had been locked - 3,500 to 5,000 pointers. like falling in love with a certain sim, etc.  The Wants Fulfill, they get the points for them, but the want doesn't roll over to something else!  It just stays there and stays locked!  Unlocking it doesn't make it rollover either.

Only way I could get it to roll was either sending them to bed or to another lot.
173  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bork List: Freetime Ed. on: 2008 March 01, 01:03:35
The pop-ups instead of phone calls for decaying friendships started with BV - was actually glad of them - the damn phone stopped ringing non-stop from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. daily.

Now though, we have the hobby club people.

As someone pointed out on the officia BBS - sims can gain hobby enthusiasm points by DREAMING about a hobby - and thus if they dream at night about the hobby and gain a point, the hobby club CALLS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT!

Son of a bitch!

Those idiots! Didn't they think about this?

They need to play a dorm with 8 controllable sim students and see if they like the non-stop hobby club calls.

puke.  not a 'bork' just pure idiocy needing a fix.
174  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bork List: Freetime Ed. on: 2008 February 29, 17:49:43
I took the plunge.

Before installing I backed up (I know, a first for me) and I removed all the known problem hacks (3 from TwoJeffs list of not compatible with FT)

Left the rest in...because I wasn't having townies and strays respawn.

I haven't had too much ADHD - a bit...and some items seem worse than others...mostly items where something is 'hobby' oriented.

Is the queue droppage universal for those that have it or is it specific item related?

I am having queue droppage with the train set table.  My simmie managed to get everything installed but the water and keeps dropping the water from the queue so he has a little dry lake bed on his table...

Even when his fun is at 50% he won't keep the task in the queue and complete the table.

So far that's the worst thing I've found...

Oh yeah - and created new UNI students and moved them into my existing dorms.  Unlike previous newly created Uni students, I cannot use Merola's multi-painting to give them at least one skill bar each item (so they don't burn the house down and all) which would then raise their first semester bar to the full level.  Now must have them actively participating in the skilling necessary to get a full grade bar and then use Merola's painting to add that skill bar only.  Once the grade bar was full size, then I could add the rest.

So there's something odd there, but can live with it.
175  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bork List: Freetime Ed. on: 2008 February 28, 19:39:38
Ah, yes.

Back on topic.

More doom and gloom for me...as I've yet to acquire Free Time.

As much as I would LOVE to run right up to Target (two blocks from house) and purchase it and run home and install it because I want all my simmies to be sewing simmies... well, the queue dropping and ADHD thing are scering me. I get frustrated pretty easy with sims who don't do what I tell them to do...

So enough discussion of POT HOLDERS, okay?

Scare me some more.  What else is wrong with this stupid EP?
