751  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Categorizing all my downloaded hair... Any advice on how to keep my sanity? on: 2006 January 12, 21:01:23
Cruel sims mommy!

I personally wouldn't want to have a mass killing of my sims because that would considerably increase the amount of sims in my 'hood and that can be bad.  I don't think it matters if they are dead or alive when it comes to too many itirations errors.

Could be wrong, but I wouldn't take the chance.

Hrmm.. So I decided to categorize my hairs too, since I've only got a few dozen. The only problem is, I can't find the Hair Toner. I downloaded the latest DatGen and extracted the 10/19 release to the installed location... But hairtoner doesn't seem to be there.

I'm probably just overlooking it but I don't see it in the plugins list...

Do it the hard way with SimPE.  It will put hair on your chest !

Why kill off your townies, just give them makeovers
753  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Categorizing all my downloaded hair... Any advice on how to keep my sanity? on: 2006 January 12, 17:15:09
Well your game right now consists of sorting through hair.  So that's duller than any other scenario I can think of with the game.

What I would do, if i was you, is put only a few hairs in the download folder (and nothing else) and use Body Shop to identify what they are.  BS loads in about 30 seconds when you have a blank game and an almost empty download folder.

But if it was me, I'd just start over.  You'll find new hair and find the ones you liked again.  Sort all your hair by folders and include a jpg of the hair.  This way you will never have to play the "identify the hair from the texture game".

754  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: crashing on: 2006 January 12, 17:07:53
You'd think it would be related to the audio.  I'd try disabling the sound card at the device level just as a test.

If that works it would make me wonder if the card is defective, assuming the problem came suddenly, there was no change to the system and it worked fine before.
755  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: crashing on: 2006 January 12, 16:33:49
Seems like a driver issue to me.  Have you updated all your sound and video drivers?  If your drivers are all recent, it could be the problem too, you might have to roll back to a previous version.

When you say you are using a new drive, does that mean you reloaded XP as well?
756  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Recategorising hair with SimPE on: 2006 January 12, 16:31:38
Oops I've read the tutorial and I haven't been doing it the way it's shown.  I've only been deleting the textures and the property set reference.  It seemed to work in any case, as the Maxis hairstyle was gone for the ages I didn't want but I wonder if that will cause a problem.
757  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Categorizing all my downloaded hair... Any advice on how to keep my sanity? on: 2006 January 12, 16:22:16
I thought I'd give you all an update.

I'm still at it.  I'm still not playing the game, because I've moved all my non-hairy downloads out to do this.  I'm still tearing my real hear out.

I've deleted the hairs I know I'll never use.
I have completed all the fantastic hairs from sites I couldn't possibly live without.  I cheated and downloaded them all again, sorted them nicely into subfolders and ordered them into the correct bins one by one....).

Now I'm stuck with all the files called b4db081b56e2328e4bb4f940861973a2.package and worse.

You have already said you got all the fantastic hair  you couldn't possibly do without.  Ditch the rest.  You probably won't miss them.  Go on press the delete key.  A brief moment of pain and then you will be okay.  Then you'll wonder why you didn't do it before.

ps. lol Pegasys.  I read your post after I posted mine (bad girl I know).  I guess we think alike
758  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: S.O.S. Save our Sims on: 2006 January 12, 03:20:42

Faemidwife, JFP believes, from some older threads I read, that it's actually "cleaner" to kill those sims rather than delete them.  I can't recall the exact reason off hand, but it has to do with creating unlinked memories.  Sims that they interacted with will have memories of "unknown" and that can lead to problems.
759  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: I'm going to admit it: I have no idea how to do this... on: 2006 January 12, 02:24:49
What about this hair:   http://www.insimenator.net/showthread.php?t=2205 It's pretty similar.  And I know there were recolor dones for this mesh.  Oh and this is the female version I think  http://www.insimenator.net/showthread.php?t=3510.

Oh and this one too : http://www.insimenator.net/showthread.php?t=2206
760  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Downtown v. hood on: 2006 January 12, 02:03:55
The only thing really that you gain from downtown is the new community lots and houses, and the nicer looking Downtownies, + the Tricous, and it gives you more space for more houses, when you already (except in Strangetown) have room for so many houses that if you  filled up every blank space your neighbourhood would almost certainly become a BFBVFS!

I started filling in my 'hood with empty houses.  Now that we can see further than our backward, it's worth it.  I'm no where near satisfied with the look of my 'hood yet, but it will come.

I was wondering.  If downtownies do not walk around your 'hood, will your townies walk around downtown?    I created around 32 townies when I started my game.  Which makes me wonder if a hack exist yet to create downtownies.  If not, might there be a way to do it with SimPE.
761  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Hair re-categorizing the fun way! on: 2006 January 11, 21:25:12
I normally enjoy "sim-maintenance" but that task is just a tad too daunting...

I hope there is a SimPe wizard to do it soon!

That's one of those things that looks very complicated until you actually do it.  Then it's quite simple and straighforward.  It's just tedious if you have lots and lots of hair.

762  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Hair re-categorizing the fun way! on: 2006 January 11, 21:18:08

Okay, l lied, it's not really fun after you do your XXX hair, but it was exciting when I actually go it to work.  Thanks to Yetyak who got me started and Dewshine whose post provided me with more info, I was able to put all the hair in their correct bins, fix it so that the style transition smoothly from color to color, eliminate extraneous textures and eliminate duplicate grey color for the same style.  I even fixed genetics so that the hair behaves like Maxis hair.  I was so intent on the task last night that my boyfriend wondered if I was still alive "in there".

Which posts are these, and how exactly did you do it? I think you might want to look at some of the older hairstyles at pronupsims. I also use some of the hair from genensims, because it adds more interesting haircolors to the game, and they have recolored some of the uglier maxis hairstyles so that they look better by making ugly bangs, etc, invisible. Their textures don't have much depth, but I still like them, especially the black, apricot, and light brown

The post was here : http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php?topic=2119.0  about halfway down.  Dewshine even included some screen shot.  Some of the things I done, I had to guess at, but I guessed correctly.

Thanks for the link Blue, I'll check it out later.  As always you need to see things in the game to really judge.  I downloaded some of NeptuneSuzie's hair over at TSR (http://www.thesimsresource.com/artists/Neptunesuzy).  Some of her textures are really nice and some are not.  It's a mixed bag.  The quest continues ...

So now that I finally know how to do this, the world is my oyster and I need decent hair.  I'm picky; I don't want stiff plastic hair with no animation. Given that most meshed hair fit that criteria, what I am especially interested in are very good recolors of existing Maxis hair.  Maxis has decent styles but their textures frankly suck sometimes.

Does anyone have outstanding Maxis recolors they would like to share with me ?
764  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Wondering How This Would Work on: 2006 January 10, 18:13:09
I think it would work.  I don't see why not.  You are bypassing the normal game by doing this, so that's why there are no hysterical reaction from the spouses.  Without a hack you'd have to use "move out".   I did that once, for some reason.  I think I meant it to be temporary.  But the sims left behind started crying.  I don't remember if she had a bad memory or not.

Scenario wise, I'd think of it as your sim having two families unbeknownst to each other.  He's a military man so that would be easy to explain.  Each spouse would think he's "on assignment somewhere".

Maybe I should try that.  I have one sim that I matched with a likely 3 lighting bolt partner.  Except that they are not making pretty babies together at all.  I had to edit the resulting girl.  So I'm thinking to alter my sim's appearance and fix the genetics.  Or I could simply pick a different father for her children.  But since she's a family sim, I don't want to divorce.  Hmmm I was also considering making her romance and having babies from a whole bunch of fathers.
765  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bloody Build mode. It is out to get me on: 2006 January 10, 01:53:18
I downloaded Numenors stair recolours and I cannot get them to run in my game, tried again and again and thought lifes to short.  Give it up. Huh

Are you talking about modular stairs?  I'm pretty sure you can't just put them in your game like a normal recolor.  You need to edit a file in order to make them work.
766  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bloody Build mode. It is out to get me on: 2006 January 09, 20:50:37
  She never got to marry.
Why am I thinking - lucky girl?!?!  Free to choose her own path without compromising...

lol.  Well there is nothing wrong with marrying or not marrying, but Brandi being a family sim had strong desires to fall in love marry, have babies etc.  All unfufilled.  Spending the better part of her youth to raise her kids with no thoughts for herself.  It made me a little sad, in that silly way we tend to anthropomorphize our sims Smiley

767  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Categorizing all my downloaded hair... Any advice on how to keep my sanity? on: 2006 January 08, 22:14:43
Does anyone know how to fix the genetic part of it, so that custom hair is treated the same as Maxis hair.  I saw at least one creator saying that he fixed his hair so they would work the same as Maxis (as well as be in the correct bins)
768  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Categorizing all my downloaded hair... Any advice on how to keep my sanity? on: 2006 January 08, 16:49:56
A word of warning about moving files with CleanInstaller:

That is what I was doing a while back which caused all my downloaded files to be changed to some unusable file format... Shocked
So, if you do this, be prepared to risk losing all your files, or you can have CleanInstaller open next to your download directory and use the filenames from CleanInstaller to find which files need moving.

A while back, if you unchecked a file in CleanInstaller that would deactivate it.  To deactivate it, it would rename the file and remove the .package extension.  You could have either renamed your files to re-enable it, or used clean installer to do it.

Now, you need to check the files and right click on them to de-activate it.  That's much better and much harder to do by accident.
769  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How do you change NPC's clothing on: 2006 January 08, 16:25:28
Changing appearance via mind control has always worked flawlessy for me.  Just changing the clothing seems to always revert somehow, even with the casual npc mod.
770  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How do you change NPC's clothing on: 2006 January 08, 05:18:26
Found this link at MTS2 http://www5.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=47987&highlight=nanny

and this one http://www.variousimmers.net/vsimforum/forumdisplay.php?f=64&page=2&sort=lastpost&order=&pp=20&daysprune=-1

I'll check out Christianlov's hack, Thanks Lynn
771  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How do you change NPC's clothing on: 2006 January 07, 21:01:00
I'll try that.  Thanks for the help.

I found a spot to download the unlocked career outfits, so that should work pretty good.

772  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Categorizing all my downloaded hair... Any advice on how to keep my sanity? on: 2006 January 07, 19:45:51
Are you following a tutorial to do this?  I've been meaning to classify my hair, but I have yet to find instructions that are so clear that they inspired me to start doing it. I should be ashamed for being so lazy!.  Alright if someone points me towards decently clear instructions, I vowe to turn them into a proper tutorial complete with screenshots.

Anyway, this won't help you much but for the future it might.  I started keeping a jpg of everything I download and keeping it with the file.  I make sure the jpg name matches the file.  This way, if you hate the hair, you can always go back and delete it easily.

Maybe you ought to just bite the bullet and delete every hair and start from sratch.  Reload only the hair you like.  Don't forget that some of that hair is high poly on top of being bad looking.  If some of your townies start sporting them everywhere your game will slow down.

And I've started to see hair appearing in the correct bins as well.  I welcome that change.  At least one of the creator mentioned he used Datgen.  I think that either they are all using Datgen, or the information on how to do this is being circulated more widely.  It's amazing how much progress has been made since the early days of TS2 when you compare the quality of stuff that was made then and now.

I wonder about one thing though.  If you have a sim with custom hair and you delete that hair.  I know he will go around bald or something like that.  I also know that you can make them change appearance to fix that.  But what happens to genetics.  Will missing custom hair be passed down to the babies?

773  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / How do you change NPC's clothing on: 2006 January 07, 19:24:30
I searched for this on MTS2 but that's a waste of time because 1) I never find what and 2) I spend 3 hours investigating and downloading stuff from the threads that come up in my search.  For me going to MTS2 is like an alchoholic going to a liquor store to buy some eggs.  They come home with bags and bags of booze and no eggs  Grin

Anyway ever since NL, it seems we can't change NPC's wardrobes.  I am in the habit of regressing my elder NPC sims to adult, but it bugs me when they go to work in a totally inappropriate outfit.  The service lady is wearing a long oriental silk dress.  Hmmm.

I saw a tutorial on how to makeover your NPC's with Sims PE, but I just want to change their clothes, not everything else.  You can't just simply use Mercola's mirror and have then change.  Their clothes inventory comes empty.  Even if you buy clothing via a hack or another, their clothes inventory will be empty.
774  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: All my plans Ruined! on: 2006 January 07, 17:38:54
Actually I think this is absolutely awesome.  I love that Sims finally have a mind of their own when it comes to love.  It makes things so much more realistic.  And I like that my sims defy me sometimes.  Adds spice to the game.
775  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: May I share your hacks with my mother in law on: 2006 January 07, 17:06:19
Why would that possibly matter.  If she had an internet connection, she'd be downloading them herself.  What's the difference if you give it to her.

I would only see problems with posting the hacks and trying to pass them off as your own and/or trying to make money off them.
