Which method did you use to clone them ?
I've cloned tons of characters and never had a problem. Actually I think I spend more time cloning than playing lol. Mind you I only redo the strict necessary. Stats, aspiration points, career level.

What is the quiet pregnancy mod?
It's a little mod that basically eliminates the little tune that let's you know you conceived. Your first sign that you are pregnant is usually throwing up. Combined with the risky Woohoo makes things pretty realistic. I am not sure who made the mod, just I know it is one of the regulars, as I am picky about which mods I install. You never know what kind of conflicts you might get installing mods left and center

I've been reading this novel. I'm enjoying it so far. They are pretty good writers, the description aren't amateurish and her dialogue is very witty in a Buffy sort of way. The plot again reminds me of a Buffy episode, but overall it's quite enjoyable. The novelty factor is the amazing way they manage to make their Sims expression fit the story. That's pretty cool. The only distraction, is that I find myself drooling over all her objects, clothes and hairstyles. Not to mention her houses and neighbourhoods. I wish she could package her entire sims folder and sent it to me I think I'd pay good money for that!

Then it might not be the terrain paint in your case. If you truly are anxious to find out, you can always backup your game and then gradually reinstall the content you suspected corrupted your houses in an effort to pinpoint the culprit. No one ever said that TS2 isn't buggy, otherwise Pescado would be out of business I have a technique I use to make sure I don't end up with a lot of crapola in my download folder because of houses. For each house, I install I create one folder into which I extract the content of the package. Then I use clean installer to "strip" the house of all of its content and create a new package that contains nothing but the lot. I then install that new package. If I decide I don't like the content, then I just delete the folder. If I don't like the house either, then I bulldoze it. All trace of the house is now gone.

I double-checked my numbers now that I am home. The original game generates around 127 characters for Pleasantville. I did a deleteallcharacters and then added uni and downtown. I ended up with 245 characters. So 127 + 245 - some duplications with NPC's and - my own characters you have roughly 400 pre-generated characters... and you haven't even started playing the game yet! Conclusion : Deleteallcharacters is your friend damn, i just noticed I'm no longer tasty

I've had Sims autonomously apologize, but this was pre-Uni so I don't know if it's changed. I'm thinking even if they still do apologize autonomously, I doubt they wil obsess on it like they do about playing red hands, so my idea would still work. It makes sense to me anyway. Dunno how "moddable" it is.

What I did in the end was create a new neighbourhood and clone the families I wanted, copy all the data from their family ties, character, interests etc., and then basically start them all again with a clean slate.
I've done the same, but this time I've packaged all my families after creating them. I've done it right away before they started interacting with anyone outside the family, so I won't get any dummy files. I checked the packages with clean installer, and there was nothing there that didn't belong, so I am pretty confident there will be no explosion visible from space or anywhere else. Recently I had a fresh neighbourhood, with all the townies deleted, but with all the university and downtown characters included. I remember seeing around 350 files in my folder, including the 20 odd ones I created. Remember that at any point before actually creating your families you can do the deleteallcharacters to wipe out ALL the sims in the game. This will force you to create your own townies and dormies, but I consider that a plus.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Recategorising hair with SimPE

So what is the prevailing opinion then. Should I use Dategen or SimsPE. And could someone point me to the original thread, I did not manage to find it with a search. Recategorizing hair would be awesome. I am currently not using custom hair because I hate the way it messes up the genetics. You might inherit a hair color from your parents but whoever heard of inheriting a hairstyle.
On the subject of file namesI never extract packages using TS2 default installer for just that reason. I systematically use the multisims2packextractor program to extract sims 2 files and manually move the file into an appropriate directory. If I want to check out a premade simmie for example; i'll extract the files to a directory that corresponds to the character name. Then I'll check her/him out in SimsPE and decide which of the custom content I like. I'll clone the character using only the content I want. Then I'll manually move the custom content (assuming I am keeping any, which is fairly rare) to its appropriate folder. Then I'll delete the character folder.
The same applies for houses. I'll extract all the content to a folder and place it in my download directory. I'll remove all the custom content from the package using clean installer and save it under a different name. I'll install just the lot segment into the game. If I don't like the house, then I only have to delete the house and after remove the folder. The house is completely gone from my game.
This way I have very very few numbered files.

Uh, apologizing doesn't do squat for the furiousness. I've had sims that must have apologized 100 times in a row and I've had sims get their relationships back up to 100/100 after being furious with someone and they still stay furious until that time is up! They'll happily hug the person and kiss kiss greet them and then later steal their newspaper and kick over their trashcan. Wow, our sims have learned to be passive-aggressive! This is getting uncannily close to real life I started a couple soon after getting NL and forgot to set their relationship in CAS. I also selected their zodiac, aspiration and Turns ons/off randomly with no thoughts of compatibility. When I put them on a lot, I left them to interact on their own. They hated each other on sight! Within minutes they were enemies. At first I thought that was hilarious and figured it might be interesting story wise, to have a couple who hated each other. They I realized they weren't a couple yet. Duh. So I stepped in and stop their interactions, which mostly consisted of slapping, showing, and poking. But the minute I left them alone two seconds they were at each other's throat again. (I play with free will on at all times). The thought of monitoring them every second until the relationship was repaired didn't appeal, so I exited went to SimsPE, reset their relationship to zero, and made them a little more compatible. So I had him move out of the household and had her woo him until he agreed to marry her. It was funny because even though he was head over heels in love (dream date and all) he was still furious with her. Talk about passive aggressiveness I think maybe a simple realistic solution (read hack) to fix this would be through the apologize function. My idea is to have the furious state decay very very slowly. However an apology would shorten the furious stage by let's say 5-10%. Queue up 10-20 apologies (so basically get on yer freaking knees and grovel like you have never groveled before) and you'd be out of the dog house (no more furious state) and the relationship partially repaired. Since sims do not normally apologize on their own, this would leave the whole thing up to the player. Leave them to be enemies or make them forgive each other. Maybe you could even tweak it by having compatibility influence by which % the furious state is decreased for each apology.

I forgot to do just that and had to start my neighbourhood again ir order to get rid of the butt ugly dormies. I read a couple of post saying that that the townies weren't all that bad, so I've decided to give it a chance. I was wondering if it's fairly safe to attach the downtown neighbourdhood and then immediately go to SimsPE and selectively delete the downtownies(?) I don't want, before any memories are generated. Can that cause a BFBVFS meltdown?

Whatever you do, do not put families from the exchange into your game. That's a sure way to mess things up big time. If there is a family that you MUST have you can always recreate it if you have lots of patience. You can always import the family into a temporary neighbourhood that must be totally separate from your "good" game. Move the family to the family bin. Package the house. Then export the chars with SimsPE using the method described above and re-create the family in CAS. This way you can recreate a squeaky clean version of a family from the exchange with none of the hazards associated with just tossing it in your game.
If that's something you want to do I can go into more detailed steps

You don't need to reinstall your game or your whole computer to start fresh. You just need to rename your The Sims 2 folder in your document folder and the game will generate a fresh new game. This way you can always reference back to it if you want.
I also keep starting fresh. But I like to keep my good looking sims, as I find that's hard to come by. To do so I load up SimsPE, use the Sims Surgery tool to export my favorite sims. Then I load up BodyShop and clone those characters and remove every single trace of custom content and then package them. They are ready to be imported into a fresh game. At this point, I can re-customize them in CAS with the newest, shinnest custom content available.
