Your tale of Aquitaine reminds me of a great Kids in the Hall monolgue, where Dave is playing a bad doctor and explains that he really is simply horrible (excerpted and highlighted):
Wanna know something? I'm a bad doctor. I'm not boasting. I mean, who would? Just stating a fact that I've never really gotten the hang of the whole healing-the-sick thing. And don't interpret this as some sort of false modesty.
...
I guess it all started in high school where I was a very bad science student. One day when we were supposed to be dissecting a frog, I accidentally disassembled my desk. Oh, but, you know, I was a popular kid. You know, the other students were always eager to help me out. - ... But I didn't worry about it. I figured, how far could you coast on charm? Well, pretty far, actually!

Standard doors (in the US) are 6'8" or 2.03 meters high - and 3' or .92 meters wide. It is reasonable, then, to assume Sims ceilings are 8 feet high - and a grid one meter (39.3 inches) wide.
(By the way - I could be wrong, but the door you showed in the example is not a standard height. I believe it's a bit shorter than the justa door, which is the standard size.)

Hey, President Carter tried.
It was Ford who tried. Carter did not take office until 1977. My mistake. Now that I actually read the article I linked <smirk> I see that the Metric Board was established in the Ford administration. I guess I just associate Carter with having pushed it during his administration.

Hey, President Carter tried. I recall spending most of the late 70s diligently larning metric, because we were absolutely planning to join the rest of the world. Alas, bureaucracy will out, and all that's left are two-liter bottles of Coke. Oh yeah, and science uses metrics. As far as the grid size goes, I tend to equate one grid to 9 square feet (or 1 square meter when I'm feeling British). It tends to provide sufficient space for movement, and as Notovny pointed out, it keeps buildings from getting too large. The only drawback, as near as I can tell, is that sims don't like one-tile-wide hallways. Too...crowded, perhaps?

I use Palladin's Categorizer to make items available for both kinds of lots. I also use it to fix stupidly low comfort levels and insanely high prices on decorative items like Simplan-X's glass of Guinness (originally §4000).
Now to be honest, I've not checked it since BV, but I assume it still works.
Then you can fix up your collection files either in game or by using jfade's Collection Creator.

Someone should take Chaz's sharpen and contrast tools away until he can learn to stop abusing them.
Someone should take Chaz's COMPUTER away from him until he promises never to attempt making celebrity sims and craptastic hair again. But that's just my opinion. Also...do not think that just because an item at TSR is horrible that it's not pay. See: Atwa.

Venusy, I figured CN was fair game again because this wasn't specifically a clothing category, and I think it's the funky folding when sitting that really makes you go 'what the fuck'...well....that is after just seeing the dress in the first place.
If it's disqualified based on the February ruling, that's fine.

Given that explanation, while the eyeball sculpture did make me go "wtf?", I think this toilet from Sunair probably fits the bill: One word: OW! In the clothing category, I think I have to nominate infamous Meat Slab dress from Carla Niven. (I actually made the sacrifice and put this in my game and subjected a sim to its horrors. Here is the sad truth of the dress, as previously shown at PMBD: The first thing I noticed was a less than neat neckline, so I zoomed in: ...which led me to look at the train: Messy, to be sure. Then Charlie took a walk around her house. She first sat to wait for the date who never came (he heard she bought this dress and moved to another neighborhood): Dejected, she wandered upstairs... ...and into the bathroom. Here's Charlie, flushing the toilet located near the door: Finally, she had a lie down: Soon after, she burned the dress, changed the entire house to a nice calm beige, and has been wandering around listlessly, not eating, not doing anything....she may never get laid again.... Nice, huh? The dress is...well...horrid. I uploaded it to the booty, though, because someone mentioned it might make a great horror story...that toilet picture looks a lot like blood seeping from under the door.[/quote] Charlie is now a permanent resident at the Betty Ford Clinic, after attempting several overdoses of the love potion. She has been seen running through the halls naked, screaming "EYE BLEACH! I NEED EYE BLEACH!" Her doctors are considering throwing her in a pool with no ladder, just to put her out of their misery.

Plasticbox's explanation makes sense, now that I think of the lot where this has happened for me; I had a bar and grill set up, with the stove behind the bar - but with only one tile gap between stove and bar. I'll have to experiment.
and I agree - it's not a bad quirk!

Heh...it's okay, Havelock. You'll pay for it later. PROBLEM SOLVED: This house is easier, actually, as the stairwell is not so convoluted. 1. Delete the roof and all the trimmings. 2. Go down one level. Delete/knock out ALL of the full walls, including the windows on those walls. You will be left with the half walls. 3. Build a 1x1 room on the porch. 4. Initiate boolprop constrainFloorElevation false. 5. From the top of the new 1x1, use the terrain tool to raise the short walls to full size. You'll have to do this a bit to get around all the walls without mucking up the two columns already on the porch. 6. Turn the CFE back to true, delete your little 1x1, and rebuild your roof. Easy! (Oh, you'll have to decide what to do with the formerly risen area...it's now a room without doors...but you're creative!)

Okay...I've been in the house. May I just say....YIKES! There are tons of levels...which look cool but are unwieldy. I tried getting rid of the mini level and making a full level on the second floor....but that mucks up the stairwell and the over-the-pool patio. As I see it, you have two choices: 1. Remove that mini level, forgo the last 'turn' of the stairwell, and make the patio lower. It's not as 'complicated', but it is much more playable. (forgive low lighting...I didn't replace windows) 2. Make the entire second floor on the higher level...put the last stairs closer to the stairwell and be done with it. Know that you'll have to click up an extra time. (constrasting color floor used to show level expanded...I recommend adding a fence of some sort) If the stairwell wasn't so complicated (and attractive), it might be easier to mangle the thing...but you have to do a major rebuild of the stairs to make the roof work properly.

Thanks Havelock! I'll download now and see what's up...stay tuned.
BTW: It may be that even after the deletion, there's some odd hidden levels that have to be evened out...maybe some terrain flattening would help.
Will go look now.

Okay.....so....two things:
1. If you can tell me where you got the house, I can download it and look in-game.
Meanwhie....
2. Is the second split level by any chance created with a stage? If so, that's an eay delete. Otherwise, it appears the builder may have done a sublevel 4 clicks high...and your second level is actually one more up.
EDIT: okay, that's exactly what the builder did (I just looked again at the way the windows and doors sit).
The fix....well, yer not gonna like it.
Choice 1. Delete everything above the first floor and rebuild a single level second floor, add the roof, etc. This is the one I'd choose...neater, cleaner, easier to play in the long run.
Choice 2. Go up so that the second split level area is playable....delete the floor and the stairs. This means you'll have that odd 'partly missing window' thing at the 4-click level's bottom (like you do now). I find this to work well in terms of building but not in terms of game play.
Another addition to this post: I looked at the second floor, and if you wish to retain its funky shape, termporarily draw a funky colored floor onto the roof to outline the wall grid...when you delete that whole madness, you will know where to rebuild.
(Last edit's because my fingers apparently don't work anymore and my toes don't know how to spell.)
