376  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Another OfB problem: employees won't come when called on: 2006 November 07, 05:50:44
Yes, I finally bit the bullet and removed the hack entirely and the game works fine now. Oh well; I guess I just wasn't meant to have both OfB and InTeen, but I know which one I'm going to choose.

Also, for some reason, I noticed later on that one file from InTeen had somehow snuck into the main Downloads folder instead of being in the Hacks subfolder with the rest of its bretheren. Huh. Go figure. I may actually have to bite the bullet and go to the Inteen site and *gasp!* check to see if any of the hacks/mods found here are not compatible with it. Horrors!
377  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Another OfB problem: employees won't come when called on: 2006 November 05, 22:46:58
Sorry for the double post, but InTeen itself was not the problem. I disabled the entire thing and re-ran the program, and nothing changed. Maybe I should ask this at the InTeen site if it's a conflict problem. Thanks for trying to help anyways, though. It's nice to at least get a response from people. Smiley
378  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Another OfB problem: employees won't come when called on: 2006 November 05, 12:39:35
I have InTeen, but not Pets. Could the problem lie with one of InTeen's flavour pack additions, I wonder? Maybe tomorrow I'll try removing only the InTeen and seeing if that makes any sort of difference whatsoever (although I did, in fact, download the OfB version as instructed).

I did notice a mention of InTeen in one of the error logs but not the other.
379  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Another OfB problem: employees won't come when called on: 2006 November 05, 06:40:20
I'm thinking this might be a hack issue, but I'm not sure which one it could be. The only gameplay-related problem I'm having now is that the employees at my home business will not come when called. I click on the OpenClosed sign, make sure the store is open and then have them Call In Employees. They call, but then I get an error message pop up (to which I choose reset). I'd include an error log, but I have no idea which one it is (looking in the C:/My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/Logs folder.

Incidentally, I run the game in Debug mode.

ETA: I have found the two Error Logs that I thought might be able to assist in addressing my problems (since I now have discoverd several more, including not being able to turn on Hydrobots).
380  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: Pinstar's new Apocalypse challenge on: 2006 November 05, 06:21:31
1. There are no restrictions on the founder while they're at Uni.

2. If you can fit them both under the 8x8 house on pillars, then yes you can. I personally haven't tried building a house on pillars yet, though, so I can't tell you for certain if you can.

3. Yes, unless you've already unlocked *goes to check* Athletics.
381  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Problem installing OfB on: 2006 November 02, 07:07:32
Well, I didn't have any problem copying any of the files into a different directory. The problem I'm having now is similar but earlier. I've compared what the Nightlife and Uni area of the C:/Program Files/EA Games... folders look like and I've manually moved all of the files into the correct areas, but now that I've done that, I get the error message immediately.  Huh

Thanks for the input, J.M.

ETA: Would simply deleting that file cause irreparable harm to my game, do you think?

ETA2: Well, I went ahead and removed the file. I figured it wouldn't hurt since it was in the Support folder and shouldn't alter Gameplay in any way. This seems to have fixed the problem. I can play it just fine now. Smiley
382  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Problem installing OfB on: 2006 November 02, 05:00:03
I'm having a bit of a problem installing OfB on my computer. It seems to be going fine until it hits the 94% mark, and then I get the following message:

'A problem occurred when trying to transfer the file 'C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The SIms 2 Open For Business/Support/config.xml' from the media.

Do you want to retry to copy the file, or cancel the installation?'

I've already removed my Downloads and Saved Sims folders. Could anyone give me some insight as to what exactly I could be doing wrong here? Could I have altered a game file that shouldn't have been tampered with by mistake?
383  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: The Apocalypse Challenge: Possible change to Life of Crime restriction on: 2006 October 31, 00:33:20
Pinstar, I was thinking: if you really want to make Life of Crime more challenging (and slightly more important to lift), you could have the Mob take 60% of the gross household income instead (if they have enough to cover everything, that is). If you don't have enough to cover the loss, you'd still have to delete items and buy back whatever you could, but you could change it to say that once you reach a certain amount in your household income (say, $10,000 or so), the Mob will notice your growing wealth and will tax you accordingly.

Or else you could just keep it as it is. Whichever. Smiley I simply found that the Life of Crime restriction was merely a nuisance the longer I played, not a challenge. Maybe having this sort of thing would make it more restricting.

ETA: To clarify what I meant: if your household has just enough money to cover replacing items that week, then they'd still have to delete/repurchase everything. However, if they had oodles of money (i.e. if the cost to repurchase everything was 5,000 and they have 20,000 in the bank), they could be taxed 60% of their income (12,000 instead of 5,000). I'm not sure how you'd go about determining when this would have to be done, but it was just a thought. But again, this would require NL because of the Familyfunds cheat (unless one used the terrtain tool to level/unlevel the area to reduce wealth).
384  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: Pinstar's new Apocalypse challenge on: 2006 October 28, 07:26:30
Is the ability to delete items from your Inventory an OfB feature? I've never been able to do it, and I only have Uni and Nightlife.

What I was wondering is what other players are doing with these households in the early stages when fewer restrictions have been lifted.

Heh. I'm going to have my elders that have just moved out die of old age on another lot and thus give some much-needed inheritance money to their broke relative in Uni. Cheesy

Actually, a lot of the OFB dead exist in an indeterminate state of not-quite-deadness. I saw one of them walking around and was like "Wait-a-minute, isn't she supposed to be dead?", and flagged her properly dead this time.

That sounds like a MST3K movie I once saw, Red Zone Cuba.

I've also had the problem of townies not wanting to 'disclose' what their job was; however, some of them made their career field pretty obvious when they walked past the lot in their work uniforms. That's how I got Brandon Lillard (Business) and Goopy (Military) without having to ask them.

If someone writes a novel and a different sim intercepts the phone call, who gets 'credit' for earning the money: the one who wrote the book or the one who "received" the call? I believe that someone gets credit for selling masterpieces that they haven't painted themselves.
388  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: The Tough Luck Challenge on: 2006 July 18, 21:29:51
It's also frustrating for those people who want to keep a specific feature in the family bloodline (skintone, eye color, elf-ears, etc.). With this challenge, you only get one child, and no matter what their genetics, they are the heir, no questions asked. If they end up looking like a warthog's behind, tough luck. You're stuck with them.

Of course, for those people who normally play this way it's not such a big deal, but there are more people out there who have several children in their families than there are single-child ones.
389  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: The Tough Luck Challenge on: 2006 July 18, 06:28:56
I think I'm going to add one optional goal in this here challenge. Be sure to check out the last rule (in about two minutes).

392  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / The Tough Luck Challenge on: 2006 June 27, 09:45:07
I originally posted this at a different forum, but I just thought I'd get some opinions from here as well:

I've read many, many Legacy stories (and other challenges) where the founder or their children have three or more children, and the others are referred to as 'spares.' Now, there's nothing wrong with this, but I feel guilty about having a child only as a "spare" to the heir, so here's my idea:

As a supplement to the Legacy Challenge, you are only permitted to have ONE pregnancy per generation. I was going to say one child, but you can't really help it if you have twins. Or can you...? With the multitude of ways that you can influence the number of sims your sim has, another rule is that you cannot use the Cheesecake option, and if you happen to have the Triplets & Quads hack, you are required to choose the number of babies and always choose only one (so if you happen to have the Random Only version installed, you either have to replace it with the other version or you cannot play this particular challenge). In this way, those who happen to have no hacks in their game actually have the greatest chance of bearing twins.

You are also permitted to adopt, but this would count towards your one child per generation rule. You can birth a child or adopt, but not both. Naturally, this would excuse the 'genetic lineage' requirement from the original Legacy Challenge.

The only exception to this rule is in the case of alien abduction. As was the case with twinning options, you are not permitted to influence the chances of abduction in any way. So if you have any hack or item installed that increases the odds of abduction, you will be required to remove them when you play this particular challenge. However, you are allowed to have a hack that allows teens and females to become pregnant from abductions in the slight chance that they happen to be the ones abducted.

ETA: I have decided that since natural Alien Abductions are so rare (generally speaking), if a member of your household gets abducted/impregnated and you already have one child (or one on the way), you may keep the alien child without incurring any penalty in that instance only, and only one time during the entire Legacy.

So to sum up, you play this exactly like the Legacy Challenge, but with the following additions:
1. Regardless of the age or gender of the pregnant sim, you are only permitted to have one child or pregnancy per generation within the household (note the only exception regarding abductions). This means you can either have your sim birth a child, or you can adopt. Not both.
2. (a). You are not permitted to alter what child (or toddler, or baby) you want to adopt by having another family give theirs up for adoption.
2. (b). Similarly, if anyone in the neighborhood has had a baby/toddler/child taken away by the social worker, you are no longer permitted to adopt that age group unless you have a completely different family adopt the child(ren) that was taken away.
2. (c). If you have your baby/toddler/child taken away by the social worker, the challenge is over and you have failed. This is to prevent people getting around the 'One child per generation' rule.
3. No use of any hacks or cheats that will increase your chance of twins (or more).
4. No use of any hacks or cheats that increases the chances of alien abductions, but you are allowed to use a hack to allow teens and females to become pregnant from abductions. I'd personally be wary about allowing teen pregnancies, though.
5. If you happen to have the InTeenimator installed and your sim suffers a miscarriage, you can either try again or adopt a child.
6. Accidental pregnancies happen occasionally, but if your sim accidentally gets pregnant after they already have a child, you can either choose to take a -2 point penalty if the pregnant sim moves out before they give birth (and hence they are no longer a part of the challenge), or a -5 point penalty if they remain on the lot. The only exception is one instance of alien abduction.
7. Genetic lineages aren't important here, so adoptions and alien births can be counted as the heir.
8. If your heir(ess) dies before they produce an heir(ess), the challenge is over and you have lost.
9. This probably goes without saying, but there is to be no reloading after a birth or a bad event. This means that if you desperately want a female heir and you gave birth to a boy, tough luck.
10. If you really want your founder/heir to have more children, you certainly can, but I'm going to institute a penalty for each successive one (and they still cannot be born on the lot). Let's say, -5 points for every child after the first one born in a generation (regardless if they're born off lot or not). Remember: the intention behind this challenge is to limit yourself to only one child per generation. If you have more, you may as well be playing a regular Legacy.
11. Another reason this is called the Tough Luck Challenge is thus: if your heir(ess) and/or their spouse has a children-specific LTW that you can't fulfill with these rules, tough luck.
12. No resurrecting anyone at all. Ever. Under any circumstance.
13. *Optional* If you want to make it a little bit harder for yourself, you can add this goal as well: over the course of the ten generations, try to achieve all Lifetime Wants (with the exception of children-related ones, naturally). It can be achieved by heirs or spouses alike. Heck, you can even use people you've just moved into the household solely for their simoleans if you want. Add 10 points to your final total if you can achieve this. Due to the limited number of sims in the household, you can have each sim achieve two different LTWs if you want, but not three or more.
14. I have decided to add this bonus:
The Sheer Dumb Luck Bonus: Add 10 points to your final score if you only birth one gender during the entire ten generations. This is not alterable, hence why it's called Sheer Dumb Luck. Note: if you start with, say, a male founder and only birth females from then on, you will receive this bonus; it's regarding the gender of the kids born into the family, not including the one who started it.

Is there anyone that would have any interest in something like this? It would require a lot of willpower from those (llike me) who have a tendancy to have several children per family.

ETA: I have added a few rules. Be sure to re-read the rules in case they've changed. More specifically, I've altered the penalty you receive for additional children born on or off the lot.
393  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / The Genetic Experimentation Challenge on: 2006 May 25, 06:49:37
I previously posted this on another Sims forum, but since it's Invitation Only, I figured I would also share it in a public forum. Please let me know what you think of this.

Begin copy:
~~~
1. Either create a new sim or sim couple in CAS or use downloaded sims. Do not use facial templates (or if you do, alter them significantly).
2. For your not-to-actually-be-created sim, pick an adult (either gender) and click 'Randomize' five times. Take print screens of the facial features of this sim (front face and in profile) for both genders. You may want to consider printing out a copy of them as well.
3. Your goal is to breed a sim (either gender) into your CAS family that looks as close to these facial features as possible. If you're starting with a couple, they will be married and can only breed with each other. This is to give the challenge a bit of a kickstart to begin with.
4. Move them into a lot and get crackin'. There are no restrictions on lot size.
Rules:
1. You may use any cheat and/or hack or mod except ones that alter a sim's genetic makeup (you certainly can use the Plastic Surgery machine since it does nothing to alter the genetics of a sim, but no claiming that you bred a sim that looks that way), and you also may not clone a sim in any fashion. In regards to speeding up time hacks, see rule #6.
2. You may not create townies/CAS/NPCs specifically for this challenge. You can use any CASs/playable sims that already exist in your game if you so choose.
3. You have as many or as few generations to achieve this as you so desire.
4. Skin tone and/or eye color doesn't matter; only the facial structure does.
5. Facial structures can only be compared once the in-game born sim reaches adulthood.
6. If you feel yourself getting too bored or frustrated with this challenge, feel free to speed up the aging a bit, but only one time skip per generation (i.e. In generation 4, you can make a newly-grown child turn into a teen, but you can't do that for any other generation 4 members; you can, however, do that again in generation 5 or later). Just so we're clear: you can only jump to the next age stage. No turning children into adults, or toddlers into teens.
7. You may not create a child (or toddler, etc.) for your couple in CAS.
The only one who can truly determine when the challenge is over is you, or if you choose to post comparison pics on a forum, your community members.
Initially, I was going to say that you could use pictures of other sims provided by other people, but considering how finely tuned some features can get, I thought that might be a touch too imposible, so I went with the random sim genetics. What do you all think? I was also thinking that if the challenge is too easy, then I could make the skin tone and eye color required in the final result, but I'd love to get all your thoughts first.
ETA: Here's the link to the third. Size: 3.8 Mb. Sorry again. I would've put them into .rar format, but with IZArc, I don't know how.
KellyQ, the sim in my avatar is actually a character I created for a forum-based RPG I have just gotten into. I would be more than happy to upload her for you as well. Smiley I'll provide a link in a few minutes.
ETA: Here you go. Enjoy!
Gethane, do you mean make a clone of the sim? Because I've tried that and it still doesn't work. Although I can't do it the way you describe, because I can't even get them into the game in the first place.
Thank you everyone for taking the time to try to help me. Cheesy
