Can you have them flunk? Remember that grants an extra fear slot so someone somewhere might want it...

I'll look into adding this.  Maybe I'll also add it as a feature of the Grow Up townies hack too.

Ok. I figured out what the problem is.  It's similar to the issues I was having with the Grow Up townies hack (since I basically was modeling the aging up part by using code that was originally part of moving sims in).

The problem... the graduation memories are set within the same BHAV function that erases the townies memories.  This was brilliantly encapsulated together Roll Eyes so... the only way to "decouple" this (that I can think of) would be to clone that BHAV and remove the part the clears the memories.  However... this gets a bit messy with RTBN calls, which I'm not very comfortable with.

Alternatively... I can cram the individual BHAVs into the same Group as the Move In BHAVs.  But, in that case... I wouldn't necessarily be able to "read" the GPA and Major of "asker" so it wouldn't just copy their status.  Instead... I'd have to give you options in the form a dialog, asking what level of graduate you would want them to be.  This would only happen if you want YA townies to keep their memories.  Then you'd have to step through a dialog to choose between Summa, Magna, Cum Laude, Graduate, and Drop Out.  I may have to randomize the Major... or perhaps I can invoke the Major choosing dialog.

I will toy around with this sometime this weekend and hopefully have an update ready for testing. Smiley

Ste

ETA:  I think I figured out a way to do it without the extra dialog options and actually copy the GPA and Major of the "asker" sim.  I'll have to test it out and see.

Nevermind, I just realized my idea most likely won't work.  Looks like I'll have to go the dialog route.

ETA2: Updated 5/13/2007

v1.04 - Fixed graduation memories for YA sims moved in without erasing memories

Uni memories should now be set properly, even after you choose to keep memories instead of erasing them.  You should now get options to choose the major and GPA.  Sims who graduate cum laude or higher will also get a Made the Dean's List memory.  You can also have a sim drop out.  Sims that drop out shouldn't get the Wants upgrade (they should get stuck with 4 wants).

Another minor update:

v1.100- Added option to choose major for YAs asked to graduate
   Fixed minor bugs

I am unsure if the major will have similar reset problems since the sim will still be a townie.  Previously, I just had the code always randomly assign a major.  A major has to be assigned for the code to work properly.  I also fixed a few minor bugs that I didn't catch previously.

I believe wfsanity covers norandomflirtwants so it's not needed anymore

Yes.  Pescado confirmed this.  Assume all other FFS hacks are now covered by wfsanity (such as nogizmowants).

No Pet Obsession/wfsanity - both can be used, loading order counts - but it's your choice (discussed in the No Pet Obsession thread)

In this case, they mod the same BHAV.  As mentioned, load order counts.  No Pet Obsession also mods other BHAVs not included in wfsanity, so you can still use both.  It just depends on which changes you prefer.

I currently have wfsanity and Call to Chat - Invite Over Fix (and No Pet Obsession) in and have noticed no problems (I have twojeffs hacks loading after JMs)

Again, they modify the same BHAV.  It doesn't break anything to have them both in, but unless you prefer twojeffs' changes over wfsanity, then there's no point to keep both of them in.  And... if you do prefer twojeffs' changes, then you need to make sure it loads after wfsanity.

Haha, I've thought about doing that too.  Selling the stuff back, that is... but I'm a tad lazy.  Maybe with paintings and what not, I might sell those back... but hopefully, the fact that a dorm lot already has a full load of instruments will stop sims from rolling up wants to buy them? Tongue  Plus, the other objects are useful to have anyway, like the telescopes, hot tubs, or chairs and sofas, which equal more sims watchin tv and/or doing group research together.

Alternatively... I could at least pack those away into a sim's inventory... but meh.  I'll consider them gregarious, charitable donations to the school. Cheesy  Besides, it might be nice for the 2nd gen of sims to have stuff there already.

I'm curious tho... if my game will blow up even before it gets to the 2nd gen.  With SaraMK's tutorials, I've added Strangetown, Veronaville, Fiesta Tech, and Le Tour Academie sims.  I think my sim population is up in the 700-800 range already (and this is with the clean templates).  And I still want to get around to adding those Blossom Hill neighborhood too.  I just want a cleaned version of just the absolutely necessary sims.  I've been too lazy to do it on my own. Tongue

Maybe if you planned ahead a little better, you wouldn't end up stuck.

And apparently, they get to move back in with their parents, like the TOTAL AND UTTER LOSERS they are.

Heh... well... that's actually kinda the point.  I want my sims to start off poor anyways, because it's so damned easy to make money as adults later.  I know I could spend time trying to earn money doing odd jobs, busking, selling novels or paintings... but the majority of my YAs are CAStudent born, and don't start off with no skills or scholarship loot.  And the way I play, they only learn the skills they need to get by.  So, the YAs rarely ever max out skills like creativity.  Plus, I play many of them as a slave to their wants, so they only accomplish whatever they want, or at least, the wants that I feel like satisfying.

So yeah... many of them will end up dirt po' upon graduation.  The way I look at it, it's sort of fitting.  Since most people tend to graduate in debt, with loans to pay off and what not.  The only problem is... since many of my YAs started off as YAs, they don't have parents to move back in with.  It should make for some interesting living situations. Cheesy

Heh, I don't even know how I'd go about making my sims that poor...  The ones that attend my Legacy family's greek house typically leave college with like $40-50 thousand.  How do you even spend all your money at college?  After a few generations all the dorm residences that I use are pretty well pimped out...

Well... see... that's the other thing.  I play sssssssuuuuuuuuper ssssssssssssssloooooooooowwwwwww... Tongue  I haven't really gone through a 2nd generation yet.  The majority of my sims are all CAS made.  I think I have had only one in-game birth so far... and that was an accident via Risky Woohoo.  Heheh.  That sim is still a baby too.  I have tons of YA sims that I want to rotate through Uni first... and then get back to the main 'hood to play some families.

As for spending... well, again, like I said, many of my sims aren't getting A's,4.0's.  Some of them only get the amount for C's and B's.  Money goes to dorm bills, purchasing crap, and to the expensive maids (for some households).  This one dorm lot I was playing last night has two sims in their final senior semester.  The household funds are about $2000 simoleons and they are a 3.5 and 2.0 students.  One is a fortune sim, so I've bought a bunch of chairs, couches, a guitar, a double bed, a photo booth, and other random crap.  No maid in this household, but still, a lot of junk.  They might be able to squeak by and afford some lots on their own.  I will have to see. Cheesy

In cases like this, I usually move one sim back to the neighborhood then get one of his college roomies to send him most of the money that's left using the money order. Then he can afford to buy a house for himself and his other college mates to start out in.

Good idea!  I forgot about the money order.  I hardly never use it.  Heh.  Still... I believe in life being a bitch, then you get raped by wild boars, and then you die, possibly struck by lightning or hit by a satellite, and maybe you get resurrected as a zombie. Grin

Maybe I'll use the money order next time tho. Hee hee. Cheesy

Graduating sims unable to get an EMPTY LOT? But the smallest empty lot is $900. That's one Semester's worth of cash for one sim.

Heh. Yep.  Some of the latest grads ended up with less than $500 simoleons.  Keep in mind, my sims don't get straight A's/4.0's every semester.  Also, I actually use that money to buy objects, like instruments, bubble blowers, telescopes, and furniture (depending on wants, and whether or not I have any Fortune sims, since they tend to roll up wants to buy random crap).

So, in many dormlots, my sims have just enough to pay their dorm bills.  Well... in some dorm lots, I actually hired a maid, which can get pricey thanks to expensivenpcs.  In one of my dorm lots, the maid actually had to take a bookcase because they couldn't afford to pay her for the day. lol. That was actually funny, cuz my sim rolled up a want to hire a maid again, and she wouldn't come back cuz she was still pissed. Cheesy

Surely you can afford to drop them onto the tiniest of empty lots and then quit without saving and merge everyone in.

Wait... so if I dropped them onto an empty lot... I can quit without saving and they will still be on that lot (and not back in the sim bin)?  So... if I merge them this way, then I can move a group of them onto a bigger lot I suppose?

The point is a bit moot tho... since they can't even afford the $900 tiniest lot to begin with. Tongue  Uni isn't a time for my sims to make money.  They're there to gain skills and earn a degree (oh, and socialize, make friends, and potentially meet mates). Tongue

Otherwise how do you expect roommates, all of which have $0, since apparently none can afford even the smallest empty lot, to be able to afford a place?

Well... I will just merge some of them with existing sims, like the Maxis EA playables.  Don could stand to have a roommate, even if it cramps his style. Tongue  Then I'd be forced to play them too, I guess.  At least to the point where they collectively earn enough loot that my playable sims can move out on their own.

Mind if I ask, I took a peek into the list of BHAVs and I was just wondering, which BHAV is the one that checks for saved from death?

It isn't CT - Test - Death of Sim?

I don't think it's CT - Test - Resurrect because I'm pretty sure that just checks to see if a resurrect-o-mitron thingy is on the lot.

Am I missing something?

Also... just wondering if the electronic related BHAVs are pretty much the same as those in nogizmowants?

I actually don't mind it so much.  For ones that started off in households prior to Uni, they could always move back home.  Poor sad sacks.  Hee.  Cheesy

The others, well they will just have to move in with some of the Maxis pre-mades.  Maybe then, I'll actually play them.  Should be kinda interesting storywise.

Two of my first Uni CAS born grads had to move in with Chester Gieke (I think that's his name).  I haven't played that household yet, as I'm still rotating some more grads through Uni first.

Maybe when that household builds up enough loot, I can move the other sims out to their own homes. Tongue

I just wish I could pre-group sims as they graduate.  I don't know if there is a way to do that?  Probably not.  Lord knows this may become an issue when I finish rotating this one dorm (that has 12 playable sims expected to graduate at the same time).  I'm sure that will be tons of fun to play. I don't know about you, but so far, none of my graduating sims have been able to afford to live on their own.  They all pretty much have to find roommates, as none can even buy an empty lot alone.  I really wish there was a way to combine households or sims in the simbin before picking a lot to move them into.  Tongue

What do you mean by delete neighborhoods?

And... when you merged your hoods, did you do it in the proper way, carefully following the steps laid out in SaraMK's tutorial?

I would suggest starting all over, using SaraMK's blank or clean templates and using her merged Pleasantview, Strangetown, and Veronaville template, if you really want a merged hood.

I would make backups every now and then, so if your 'hood ends up getting corrupted, you could at least go to a backup.  I usually at least make a backup once a month, or before doing anything major, such as installing a new EP/SP or even something as simple as using a new, experimental hack.

Well... kat did say it depended on the badge and lure you are using (which I assume she was referring to in-game Tongue).

So... as in real life, did you actually use different kinds of lures in the game?  You can look at it this way, maybe your sims don't KNOW how to fish in the game yet either.  And you'd have to get your sims better badge levels before they do KNOW how to fish to the point where they catch the type of fish you are trying for? It's much more annoying than that, believe me. Firstly, the way it triggers pretty much ALWAYS guarantees that the option to invite the person is no longer available, and it's never there when you DO want to invite someone over. Secondly, the want to invite someone over already exists. So basically, they will want that first, now, and THEN the other stuff will appear.

Ahh... ok.  At least there will be some logical progression then.  I just didn't want like total stompage... I hope this means that more useful and/or interesting wants will roll up in place of these.

If you actually DO get the pet to appear, the wants will roll up as usual

Ok, at least now my YA won't be so obsessed with his pet still at home.  He'll be graduating in a couple semesters anyway, and movin back in, so he'll be reunited with his dog soon enough.

This is directly due to the insane amount of spam out there. The skating want is SO PERNICIOUS that is almost GUARANTEED to appear without help, believe me. Not to mention it's worth so little that there's little point in enduring horrible load lag JUST to get a lousy 500 ASP. You'd lose more Asp from time than you would by actually GOING anywhere to fill that lot, making it a net minus to even attempt! Whim-of-the-moment wants need sanity brakes.

Well, I don't mind these type of wants, that really probably would only get satisfied at comm lots, especially for the poorer sims (who can't yet afford to buy their own personal bowling lanes, skating rinks, and swimming pools... or have the space to place them ).  I don't really play the game to keep track of points.  These wants are sort of my way to imagine that my sims actually have minds of their own.  They're a way for the sims to tell me what they would like to do... and then it's up to me to decide whether or not I feel like taking the trip downtown or not.

I kinda felt that, with the nogizmowants hack, it helped before... but then, even in large households, with only one landline, my sims were no longer getting wants to buy cell phones.  Especially on Uni lots, it was kinda necessary, with households as large as 7 to 12 playables.  But, with limited funds (since I don't play all sims to straight A+'s and thus full scholarships and/or semester grants), I let their individual wants dictact Who specifically gets to do what.

Anyhew... it's not the aspiration points that I care about so much... rather, the wants serve as a 'suggestion' for me to decide how I feel like playing my sims that day, in that household.  It's a way to keep my interest in the game, so that I don't end up playing all sims the same exact way... so that not everyone necessarily fullfills the LTWs, not everyone will reach the top of their careers, not everyone will get straing A+s, or 4.0 GPAs, or even graduate.

Oooh, new shiney!

ANNOYANCES FIXED:
Tons of sanity and personality checks added to wants, including:
1.  No longer will want to play/etc. with people who aren't here. (Talk OK)

Hrm... well, I kinda didn't mind those so much.  In a way, it was like a suggestion to invite that person over (if they didn't live in the house).

2.  Knowledge sims no longer obsessed with attempted suicide unless low ASP.

Are you referring to the saved from death and struck by lightning wants?

4.  Flirting with ugly and inappropriate people discouraged.

Heh.  It would be cool if sims had fears of being flirted with ugly people. Cheesy

7.  No obsession with unaccessible pets.

What determines if a pet is 'unaccessible'?  I have a YA at Uni who rolls up wants to teach his pet (that he left back home) commands.  I don't mind so much, because it gives me a reason to invite the household over every now and then.

8.  Skating no longer valid want unless rink actually present.

I actually don't mind these wants either... it's a way for my sims to tell me that they want to go to a comm lot.  I may or may not be nice to them, and if it clogs up their wants, well then, it sucks for them don't it?  Many wants that are changed to only roll up if you happen to be on related comm lots, well they don't always roll up when I actually have my sims go to those type of comm lots.  So, I'd rather they roll up without the requirement of such objects being present, because otherwise, I may not even have a reason to go to those places anyway.  At least, when they do roll up, I have the option of locking them and sending my sims to comm lots to satisfy them.

9.  Only kids and silly non-neat people want to balloon/snowball fight.

Does 'silly' = playful?  And is that a double requirement?  That a 'silly' sim also has to be sloppy?

Ok, I've tweaked some of the hot tub stuff.  I added the electrocuted memory thingie (at least I think I did).  I haven't had a chance to test this yet, but as Pescado claims, these things tend to not happen when you are 'obviously' trying to make them happen, so...

I looked at the exiting code... and it looks pretty much identical to the Maxis EA default.  I even disconnected some lines to throw errors at certain points, so I could make sure it wasn't a result of the code I added, and it appears that the exiting due to comfort should be regular Maxis EA behaviour. Huh  It looks like it checks hunger, energy, bladder, and comfort levels, which may vary depending on the type of hot tub.  If comfort level is above the designated threshold, then it rechecks hunger, energy, or bladder with different thresholds.

I relinked a part of the code that, if a sim still manages to pass all these (and thus, still wants to stay in), it will check their social level.  If a sim's social level is high, they will exit.  If it is low, and there are other sims in the tub, they should stay.  If you find that sims are still exiting the tub fairly quickly, perhaps I can throw in some randomness with sims staying in, maybe based on personality (lazy? outgoing? playful?) and aspiration (pleasure, romance, fortune, popularity?).

Also, uploaded the gardening hack for testing.  I haven't quite thoroughly tested it myself as I do not have any gardens really.  But the bush trimming, flower watering, and weed pulling worked for me.  I have yet to try any of the Seasons related garden stuff.

The bit about "that information was not updated" was refering to the failed transition.  Although part of the information is set to the "adult" parameters, whatever the hack checks to see if the Sim is a YA is not updated before the transition fails.  This is actually a Good Thing, since the Sim can be asked to Grow Up at a later time (and different place).

Ahhh... I see what you mean now.  I had to read that a couple of times... slowly... hehe, before my brain could process it properly.  You're saying that there is some data, which identifies the sim as a YA or not, that is not changed, even though other data is changed.  Probably the persondata which I think is pretty much a bit that is "turned on" for YAs and "turned off" for full fledged adults.  But you're right, at least it's sorta fixable later.  I'ved added checks for being on dates/groups.  I think it might work.  I'll probably post it a little later this week, as I have a few other updates I've been meaning to get around to.

Does this still apply if the hot tub is indoors?

It should check if the hot tub is outdoors only... I think I added the code after it runs the line including the lua that checks if it's considered outdoors.

Is there any chance of making it so that getting struck by lightning causes the 'got electrocuted' memory to show? The fact that your mod counts electrocution memories makes the lack of this recollection seem a bit more important now. I definitely do like all the other features, though.

Hrm... I thought that the lightning strike actually added that memory.  I think I will have to look at the code again.  I think the only reason I added that was because I could have sworn I had seen this somewhere.... back to the drawing board I go... which I have to anyway, cuz I ran into a bug. Tongue

And daysies (don't think I'd forgotten about the gardening hack... I kinda slapped something together today, so maybe I'll post it for testing too), the sims exiting due to comfort maxed out is cuz of my hack.  I was kinda experimenting with it, and I will have to tweak it more now.  I'm finding it difficult myself now keeping my sims in hot tubs long enough to woohoo. Tongue

I'll be tweaking it a bit more and hopefully have a new version up soon.

I suppose Servos are supposed to be immortal adults, huh?  Can you make the Servo die by aging them up again once they are elder?

Apparently, whatever the hack checks to see if someone can grow up from YA to adult is updated last, so that information was not updated.

I'm not sure what you mean.... what 'information' should be updated?

Oh, one other thing... I was wondering if the same problem happens when sims are on a group outing?  Will group outings immediately end if a sim who is part of the group is asked to grow up and they transition?  Probably... to be on the safe side, I might also prevent the option from showing up if they are on group outings too...
