26  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Toddlers with 6 want slots on: 2006 June 01, 05:54:18
Finally found the "dangling SWAF" thread
http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php?topic=4249.
I will check specifically for that problem.
If itīs true, than I am a case of dangling SWAF WITHOUT doing DAC.

To make it easier for me to understand all that special language: Can anyone tell me what BFBVFS means?

Thanks a lot for all that information!
Will report results (not home until tomorrow)

The Aspiration-module of the InSim, ALLOW you to re-set the wants panel to the standard 4 wants. Then you can re-add the other two wants slots if you desire so.

Read through pages of Insim-explanations. Downloaded INSIM OFB version. Tried to download the aspiration module, but there was no downloading option, instructions said it was included in the main version. Tried the Insim-tool on several lots, clicked on all sections and submenues but could not find the option to reduce the wants to standard. Especially could not find the option to spawn the aspiration-tool. My pie menue differs from some of the pictures there (less items, although I have all addons installed).
I will go there again and read through some more pages.
29  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Toddlers with 6 want slots on: 2006 May 31, 09:57:53
Most likely cause is improper deletion of a previous Sim. Eventually the game rolls up a Sim with the same ID as the townie had, and it sees wants&fears already existing. These then get assigned to the new Sim and chaos ensues.

I like this explanation and it sounds really very logical to me!

I now remember when I tried to debug the stuck social worker with the first child she tried to deliver she got deleted unintentionally  (I was experimenting how to separate her from the child which was fixed to her and could not be interacted with, although it was already shown as family member). Although I quit without saving something within the game must have been corrupted then.

When I reloaded the lot the social worker got stuck again with another child, but this time I had already JMs debugger tool positioned which was able to separate the child from her (interstingly neither she nor the kid had responded to boolproping force error).

Perhaps the game then assigned a wrong SWAF ID (of an already existing sim) to this finally adopted child (how does the game create the adopted kids in fact?) and the following inborn kids subsequently got wrong IDīs (in fact they have serial numbers in ascending order, there is only one towny interponed).
But this would give me hope, since those kids have high IDnumbers and are close to the end of the SimPE SWAF list.

I think deleting the few (about 10 or so) townies with higher IDīs than the kids with SimPE would not be a good idea, I seem to remember this can cause all kinds of troubles?
Or just deleting their SWAF files (I would not mind the slots of nonplayables being blank).

One more unaccounted for thing: If these files are copies from townies - why then 6 slots? This would mean these wishes, memories and LTWīs are copies from a playable sim (because only these were upgraded). I have to check on that too!
30  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Toddlers with 6 want slots on: 2006 May 31, 06:13:09
Jordi and Nec: Thanks a lot for your tips, Iīll give it a try.
Iīll report the result (will take a day or so until I have time again).

NB: Still searching for explanations what really happened. What can cause fake towny memories and LTWīs to be copied onto a baby on his/her birthday?
31  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Toddlers with 6 want slots on: 2006 May 30, 22:06:12
You need to reset the wants controller for that lot. Enable debugging cheats and shift-click the aspiration icon ("grow up"). This will re-spin the wants normally, and in your case should pop up an error. Delete the wants controller, and shift-click the asp icon again. Wants should now be rolled.

You mean when I have those 4 blank slots after deleting the SWAF? But in SimPE the wants/fears file of this sim then simply does not exist anymore. Will this create a new SWAF-file for this sim?

There are no in-game cheats or hacked items that can undo wants and locks.

Massssster isss alwysssss right (gollum coming creeping back). This inseminator thing cannot remove slots or locks - at least not for me. And this really IS a very unawsome tool ....
32  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Toddlers with 6 want slots on: 2006 May 30, 21:08:15
I am at home now and did some checking. The problem seems to be more complex than I thought at first.

1)There are three kids involved: the one who was adopted as toddler but is now child, her younger brother born in game (toddler) and a toddler from another family also born in game. So the problem must have started with the bugged adoption (the other 4 "normal" kids had their toddler-birthday before that event) - unluckily I did not take notice of the problem earlier.

2) There is also a problem with memories and lifetimewishes. The memories of the child are correct and there is no LTW. The 2 toddlers have wrong memories (like a towny having been in game for some time) followed by the few correct memories they aquired during their real life. EDIT: They also own ADULT LTWīs! (like wohoo with 20 sims)
I remember when the slots first appeared at their toddler-birthday there were wishes of an adult sim (like buying a car, earning money ..) and also two of these slot were blocked at appearence - like the lifetime-history of another sim being copied to the toddlers (some cases of sim reincarnation?  Tongue). Both have different wrong memories.

3) I tried to delete their SWAFīs, this reverted them to 4 slots, but those stayed empty and were not filled anymore in game.

What now? I donīknow if this bug will attack all of my future babies since I donīt know the reason for this "reincarnations". Something seems to have gone VERY wrong. And I would be very happy for any kind of enlightening!

I will try this non awsome tool (forgive me, lord of all  modders Embarrassed) to revert the bugged toddlers to normal. And then I have to wait for the next birthdays (but this will take some time, since I hate overcrowded neighborhoods).
33  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Toddlers with 6 want slots on: 2006 May 30, 13:28:51
A SWAF is Sims Wants And Fears, a data entry in your neighborhood's files. It can be nuked in SimPE, which would cause your sims to reset themselves to 4/1. There are no in-game cheats or hacked items that can undo wants and locks.

Thanks a lot - that helped. I will try if I can handle it on my own this evening. If not - I hope little nitwit is allowed to ask for more help!  Roll Eyes

Good lord, your talking to a complete nitwit in specialised english TS2 terminology: What the hell is dangling SWAF?HuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuh?
To the method - HuhHuh.
Either there is a tool somewhere ( I have a faint remembrance I have seen one, but I might be wrong. TwoJeffs Collegeadjuster allows only adding, not removal of slots if I remember correctly)
or I will try if SimPE can do anything
or I will check on the ingame cheats which I rarely to never use (but I suppose thereīs nothing in there)
or I WILL COME RUNNING FOR HELP TO YOU, which I think would be the most sensible thing to do from the start on!! Any chance?
You are always immensely amazing me - I did not expect an immediate answer to a 03:14am local time post!!
35  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Toddlers with 6 want slots on: 2006 May 30, 08:14:19
Two locks at least (I did not try for more, just did my usual locking routine. Will check for more during my next playing session).
So better to revert to normal in your opinion?!
And - any known causes?
36  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Toddlers with 6 want slots (case of dangling SWAF without using DAC) on: 2006 May 30, 06:13:19
Iīve got my second toddler with 6 wants slots (no intervention from my side).
The first one was adopted and the social worker got stuck so I had to debug her, I thought it might be related to that. But the second toddler is normally born and normally aged from baby (cake) without any visible problems. In the same neighbourhood there are 5 toddlers with 4 slots.
Anyone ever noticed this effect? Known causes (game-related / hack related?). Any trouble to be expected when they go to university (should I reset them to 4 slots?)
I donīt really mind (in fact it makes it easier to satisfy their wishes Grin), but I am curious to find out how this happened.
37  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Ticket machine and shopping - help needed on: 2006 May 17, 18:35:54
I know it is possible to have ticket machines in combination with other sales actions (selling, restaurant). This is a scenario, so I do not want to change the setting without finding out more.

Shop is near the ticketmachine, instruments are more to the back. Customers split - appr. 2/3 steer in direction of the instruments immediately after bying the ticket, appr. 1/3 start with flower-shopping. Everything is open air. Owner engages in sales actions frequently, mostly with success.

I do not think it is a problem of placement or of missing interactions. The sales action is properly started by the customers, but never finished.

It is that special feature I am looking in - shortly before the buy-bar is filled completely, the action is cancelled every time. Anyone has noticed this in his/her game? And - what can be the cause?
38  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Ticket machine and shopping - help needed on: 2006 May 17, 09:29:33
Owner is trying to sell selfmade flowers (cheap price) on a community business lot (presently level 3) with ticket machine (cheap price). Only fun source besides shopping are 4 music instruments - open air flower power scenario. After buying their ticket, some customers get into the shopping action. But always, immediately before their buy-bar is filled up completely, they cancel the shopping action and do something else or leave the lot (fun is not maxed out, I checked with Merolas mirror). If someone is looking for help (shopping interaction) and is served successfully, they afterwards never convert to shopping like they usually do. I am totally in the dark - anyone knows possible explanations?

To Ancient Sim:
I agree with you and I wish I could have phrased it the way you did.

I very much like your formulation:

I love the game, but it has never realised its full potential as far as I am concerned.

You have put into one sentence what took me half a page of rambling.
Thanks!
42  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: About individualism in sims, obsessive/stupid behaviour, mods and feeling lo on: 2006 April 14, 13:57:46
Sims have no individuality, except what you ascribe to them at random. Sims essentially choose their actions at random, affected only slightly by their personality stats. This is essentially the only thing that can individualize a sim at all, and a sim with the same stats is thus identical in behavior to any other sim with those stats, regardless of what prior experiences they have. Sims have no intelligence or individuality, and their actions are essentially random and undirected. The only way a sim can manifest "personality" is if you force the issue. Everything else is just a delusion.

Precise and up to the point.
But randomization could have been done better. Which would - by itself - have enhanced the slight effects of personality stats.
Instead randomization got worse with every addon. Since OFB randomization is missing in many/most aspects of the game. The tuning is wrong in (nearly) all newly introduced features.
And why did they fiddle functioning BHVAS (or whatever else is the professional term)Huh

And it's the delusion I like best.

I am with you!

Trying to keep myself short (and organised   Embarrassed ?)!

Thanks to everyone posting and especially to those who read the whole post!

I did not want to annoy anyone! The good thing with the Sim2 is everyone can play it his/her own style. As I tried to point out - I like and respect individuality very much.
As English is not my native language, I might express myself sometimes grossly without intending to.

Delusions can be wonderful (in a game) - I felt OFB had taken them away (try and visit one of your favorite DT-restaurants from NL after installing OFB and youīll see what I mean).

I knew the post was way too long - but I think there also was no need to rub it in like the first three posters did. I am an old dog, not at all an experienced forum user, and I freely choose not to conform to expectations this time.

I am a VERY reasonable person, but this game has astonishingly and unexpectedly grown on me like an unwanted pet which gets your favorite. It even made me go to forums and actually POST!

I had started to see the options in this game (and Pescado and TwoJeffs more than once showed them in the design of some of their hacks). I just had the feeling Maxis/EA games with their greed  had cheated me out of it. And I wanted to MOURN at the place that for me is most intensely associated with the game.

There have been so many understanding replies here (independently whether or not they contained opinions different from mine!). I cannot name everyone specially and I thank you all!!!!

I think this Community really is something very special!
44  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: About individualism in sims, obsessive/stupid behaviour, mods and feeling lonely on: 2006 April 06, 22:34:29
:-*Thanks, thatīs just exactly what I needed. You made me certain - itīs the right time to quit playing the game and visiting this place (yes, one casual annoyance less). This game definitely NEVER was designed for people with a very queer mind like mine that goes beyond one page of A4paper.
45  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / About individualism in sims, obsessive/stupid behaviour, mods and feeling lonely on: 2006 April 06, 21:00:30
Donīt read this post if you hate long posts and/or dislike personal opinions and styles of game-playing different from yours.
I have other interests besides playing PC-games. And I play other games besides "The Sims2". But this is a wonderful game for a certain mood, which I have been in fairly often recently. And like Motoki once stated in a discussion about why we all buy this awfully bugged game - because up to now itīs the only one in its category.
I like playing with free-will-on and watch my sims develop, and since the basic game I specially have taken a liking to - sometimes unexpected - individualistic behaviour. I avoid to spoil my game by risky experiments or risky downloads, which might cause me to loose one of my sims. I would have stayed in my chamber and be playing happily without ever visiting a forum if it were not for bugs and what I consider for myself to be annoying behaviour.
Leaving bugs out - I was really fine with the basic game. There were some obsessive items (especially that stupid game I consider to be something like bingo - and I hate bingo - swings and the piano - but that could sometimes be fun, I had a child who had maxed out her creativity before getting teenager, she was a very special kid), but it was easy to play without them and I accepted that at all my parties I had at least one if not all my guests in swimming-suits.... And I had a lot of unexpected individual developments in life-styles and relationships.
University seemed to offer new options. It was a disappointment, even when patched it remained awfully bugged and it also brought new obsessions and annoyances. Endless wishes for entering college societies, Bubblemakers, and especially training centers where everyone worked out until stinking and then immediately left the lot, ignoring my creative lotscaping with whirlpools (but they still were crazy about those on residential lots), pools and mensas and ignoring every possibility for socialising. Libraries where no one read if you put just one single other usable item there. Community PCīs never being used by students. Ennervating whishes for instruments in dorms which then where played by extremely uncreative dormies the whole night through, when sold only ending up with the wish for rebuying them (sometimes day by day blocking 2-3 of 4 wantslots)..... After I had taken trust in some modders (I hate to put something in my game that I am not able to understand and control myself, and unluckily I am not gifted in that way) I got addicted to downloading mods from Pescado, TwoJeffs and Inge. It was the only way to make this game worthwhile to play. Deinstalling the add-on? I thought about it, but there also were those 6 wantslots... I wondered why no modder ever tackled the nuisance of the obsessing communal training machines - did really no one mind besides me or was it just too difficult to do? (It has been done recently, only after OFB came out, now the non playables finish the training before stinking but still most of them instantly leave the lot even if they could satisfy their needs there...)
NL - finally something more to do!!!-?Huh? More variation, more possibilities for individualistic behaviour, more possibilities for developing relationships!!! -?HuhHuh?? Oh no - stupid lifetimewishes for the ever same jobs or more megalomanic wishes like having hundreds of xxxxdates... The new type of sims, supposedly to be fun addicted, ending up with a set of the same 6-8 wishes every day once or twice (if fulfilled). Or ending up with grilled cheese... And more addictive items with sims peeing themselves or leaving community lots with their needs too low to do anything else. And - most of my sims - even those from pre-addon-times - more and more seemed to loose their individualistic traits! Every household sooner or later ended up with the same set of wishes, and most sims ended up with using the same items if left unattended. Of course I CAN control them, I CAN deny them their wishes, I CAN ignore their needs - but is it what I want? Back to the boring control mode of Sims1 after having explored a wonderful, unbelievable world of possible individualistic behaviour of simple game-generated personalities? My downloadssection started to overboard with mods making the game more attractive to play. But - there is not a solution for everything! I decided - no more addon, definitley not!!!! I quit playing for longer times. But then- there is that special mood .... and I was back again.....
But then the jubilant posts on OFB! Finally something new, something exciting (and a possibility to spend that simeoleons that had been piling up)! And I bought it.... for that special mood ... I have not had time to do extensive testings (and whatīs a game which you have to test more extensively with every add-on?), but what I found out was frustrating. Heaps of unsensible, unintelligent behaviour! Put a coffebar on a lot, have an employee - everyone is addicted to drinking coffee. Let the owner be barista - no one is interested. Offer styling - everyone is drawn to it, considering to buy - and then having it done leaving the lot without getting interested in anything else. Offer something to buy in your styling shop - no one will be interested in getting a styling anymore, everyone will be in for shopping. Offer shopping - no one will drink coffee, eat something - even when they are hungry, customers will ignore provided food and instead leave the lot. Heaps of quarreling and fighting (yes, some of it is realistic, but need it be so dominant?). Give a party at your homebusinesslot when the business is closed - even when closed everyone will start complaining and relationsships will go down and down and down... (thanks to ausosocialise, my sims have kept some good relationsships with their neighbours...). I have not yet had time to visit a community restaurant with one of my sims - but I read the thread on obsessive eating behaviour spoiling all fun on previously nice lots... There is much more to mention, but my post is already too oversized ....
Of course, there are new mods. And new modders on the "market". And - perhaps even a dummy like me could learn something about modding. But whatīs the sense of a game which in itself - without all those helpful mods - is not interesting to play except for someone who has the intelligence and imagination of a cucumber (sorry if I hurt someone, but thatīs how I am feeling at the moment)? Why do the intelligent players crowd here at MATYīs - because many state they simply cannot play without mods? Is OFB just one of the many possible reasons that might- just might, just speculation, because I donīt know anything about her personally - have driven Inge to quit so suddenly and finally?
Of course I know there are all those helpful answers to posts like this - do this, do that, try this, try that, there is a hack here, a mod there - I am not lacking of imagination, thatīs not my problem. But the structure of the game with all add-ons installed does not allow to develop anything in the way I would like it to be - simple logical "normal" behaviour which leaves open space for individualistic traits that conform to a Gauss-curve - a lot of sims falling into the medium category, but a certain variance is always included and extreme behaviours are rare but possible. A big chance missed once and forever, a great (and still unique) idea for a very special game gone with the wind (but people are moaning for pets - what the hell for? More annoying behaviours? And senseless wishes to be modified?).
I have considered deinstalling all add-ons. Perhaps I will. Or I will quit playing the game totally. There are other options in life - even for that special mood - I will go and find one. But I am sad. I liked the game and its totally new aspects of gameplaying. I liked the idea. I liked the people posting here. I felt at home. Now I am feeling lonely since I have the feeling eveyone here except me is happy with OFB (besides this or that complaint). Perhaps I am just an alien - or just an old dinosaur prone to die out ...
There is no need to answer this post (although eveyone is welcome to do so). I just had the urge to get something off thatīs been on my mind often lately which my non-sims-playing friends would not understand if I talked to them about it. In fact - the only fried who was playing regularily, sometimes even more addicted to it than I ever was, has quit after OFB, being so diasppointed ....

THANKS A LOT, YOU REALLY HELPED! I did not think of THAT! To save space I have got accustomed to placing all my small coffeemachines on hacked dressers (by Merola), which also could be used as endtables - without any problems until OFB. I had simply forgotten the fact! But with OFB, something seems to have been changed - the dressers still work without problems, but it seems objects placed on them cannot be used anymore!
And I found out the problem with the big coffeebar was not the same - it was really caused by the hack. After removing it and reverting to maxismade coffeebars all options are available again.
Halleluja, my evening (itīs 8 pm here) is saved!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin My stupid oversights seem to be accumulating and they prove - I am really urgently in need of some relaxing antistress therapy like playing sims!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Tongue Tongue Tongue Tongue Tongue Tongue Tongue Tongue Tongue
47  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Cannot drink coffee / Cannot mix drinks on: 2006 March 24, 16:02:27
Thanks! Well, I had read your post but didnīt think the "bar-bug" would apply to me since I had not noticed it prior to installing the patch (might be I just did not try, if I remember correctly when I installed OFB and went into home-businesses most bars were either filled or not used anyway).
Well, I CAN do without the bars (although I might run into a problem with my fun-sims, which I am not currently playing, who at least once a  day wish either to mix a drink or to have a drink or both at the same time ....). And - besides - if I already HAD the problem without noticing it, why did the d....... patch not fix it? - Maxis again!?!?!?
But what about making coffee? If the missing option was caused  by a faulty hack, should it not be reset to normal by removing the hack? I just have to to be absolutely sure itīs not caused by anything else (any other hack or the patch itself) before de- and reinstalling OFB!
So - the bar issue being settled (although unsatisfactorily):
CAN ANYONE HELP WITH THE COFFEE PROBLEM?
48  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Cannot drink coffee - SOLVED / (Cannot mix drinks - ANSWERED) on: 2006 March 24, 13:25:37
On my residential  lot (homebusiness with ticketmachine) I cannot make coffee anymore (with none of the coffeemachines) and with the bars, I only have the jugglingoption (and with the NL bars, the barista option) but I cannot mix drinks. Embarrassed Huh
The only thing I did after installing the patch was testing the MTS2 coffeehacks, which should make coffeedrinking less attraktive - but these should not have been related to bars anyway - and I am currently testing the MTS2 motivestop hacks for exercisemachines and pianoplaying. And I removed the finalfix and the noservochores, since that should have been fixed with the patch. I have already removed the coffeerelated hacks and I checked with clean installer for having overlooked possible duplicates, but the options to drink coffee or to mix a drink did not return.
Up to now I only used hacks from Pescado, TwoJeffs, Inga, Crammyboy and Merolas Multipainting and the game was fine. With OFB - since some game features have become so annoying - I also dared to try some MTS2 hacks from Squinge and the ones I mentioned from Eddief66. I never download any lots from he exchange, so no hacks I do not know about.
Unluckily I did not test the game after installing the patch (before everything was fine) and before trying the new hacks, my fault. So I cannot say exactly what caused the problem.
Can anyone help? Anyone having a similar problem?
These are the MTS2 hacks I have been using for the first time:
DateCounter
noStayingInHotTub
OFB_AllwaysStayAfterMakeover
OFB_noDuplicateMemories
OFB_ShowerBath
All_EPS_PianoMotiveStop
ExerciseMotivestop
Eddief66_Punching Bag and recolors
ExerciseMotiveStop
Eddief66_Treadmill
LessAttractive Expresso (REMOVED)
LessAttractiveCoffeMaker (REMOVED)
LessAttractiveOrigLargeExpresso (REMOVED)

Or could it be one of my "old" hacks which worked fine until the patch (too many to list them all, since I am addicted to MATY)?
PLEASE HELP!

... so I (wrongly Huh) supposed there must be some income from the styliste too.
I am ashamed! I posted stupidities! I deserve my lips being ripped off! Of course a free makeover is just that - free, no money earned at all.
It was wishful thinking. I had hoped OFB to conform to my expectations. I was wrong. Customers do not buy restylings as long as there is a any object item to buy on the lot. If you want to have a successful stylingbusiness, you must not have any distraction in your saloon.
Itīs boring. I consider reverting to NL. Or just quitting the game and play something sensible, logical and intelligent ...
50  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Help needed - coffee or bar business at home on: 2006 March 19, 19:41:30
Some more on the coffeeshop business.
Scenario: Owned community lot, owner present. NOT ANY distractors on the lot. Only coffeebar and one table with 2 chairs.
a) Owner works as barista: No one is interested in drinking coffee. Customers only socialize.
b) Employee works as barista: Customers drink lots of coffee, but DO NOT PAY for it!!!!!!! Only when the owner herself drank coffee, she was charged the 15 simeoleons!

Conclusion up to now: Coffeebars are only intended to be used in combination with ticketmachines, where customes pay to have access to the coffeebar, but then do not pay for having a coffee. AND, even more important: To be accepted by the customers, the coffeebar must be manned with an employee, not with a playable sim (as the shop owner)!
THATīS SO STUPID AND UNREALISTIC!
But it seems thatīs the only way to play these objects, so I fear I will have to comply with Maxis rules (if no one is offering a hacked coffeebar in time ....)

I have already thought of combining ticket machines which offer access to coffeebars or discos with shops selling items in the same areas, but was not sure if people would still buy after having payed entrance to the lot - I am extremely happy to read at least that works!
