226  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Getting Rid of Maxis Townies on: 2007 February 09, 01:05:24
In my latest 'hood, I didn't bother with the neutron bomb (deleteallcharacters & subsequent cleanup), and realized its kind of nice to have a lot of Townies and Dormies to start with.  Between creating a custom Uni hood, Nailati's new templates, and Jordi's name hack, the Dormies were even a nice looking bunch with an assortment of names.  However, I got the same ugly crew of Maxis created Townies with the same stupid names, plus the two binned Maxis families for Pets (the occupied lots for Pets have already gone the way of all flesh).

Is there a file or files that I can zip/delete/disable to keep the default Townies from spawning in my next 'hood?

Hm, maybe I'll make a fridge clone that only allows cereal, lunch meat sandwiches, and chef salad... call it the Learner Edition.

Good girl, PandaGirl!

Doesn't sound like it.  They're "giving" a kareoke machine as a purchase incentive.

I figured it out!

After growing the Dormie up and inviting the new Townie to move in, I was picking No from the "erase memories" dialog, because I thought it would erase memories of interactions with the Sim doing the inviting (which it does).  However, when you pick No, it also doesn't add all the "end of semester" and graduation memories, the wants stay at 4 with 1 lock.  If the Sim doing the inviting is a dropout, the YA life stage gets a red X instead of a "(/)" or slashed circle symbol.

If you pick Yes, all the new memories pop up (and strangely, one Mystery Sim memory remains).

So, it's actually the Move In hack that's slightly flaky...

Now that I know what's happening, I'll go back to my original plan to make the Dormies playable while still on campus and work them up the normal way.

Here's the instructions if you want to attempt to "demascot" a mascot or other npcs...

Priorities like "get it out quick" vs. "get it out right" are set by management.  Management wears tinfoil hats so their brains can't be hacked.

Swiftgold, are you saying there's hope for Cassie and her cheeks with the horizontal ridge?

Yep, my former mascot wears her costume everywhere except when she's pregger...

That is not normally possible. I have never observed that on my lot.
Will get a screenshot next time it happens...

I just started a new 'hood last night, and there have been at least 5 fights in my new dorm!  Mostly involving visitors, especially mascots, but still...

Being a hot babe is expensive!  So naturally she has to find another "old goat" to inherit from.

I just made a new 'hood last night.  Best looking bunch of Dormies I've ever had!  Thanks so much Nailati!

I've actually started a whole new 'hood to test this out.  I made 3 male YA Sims, Dudly Dropout, Sidney Scrapingby, and Major CumLawde.  Dudly has already dropped out after making the acquaintence of the 5 Dormies resident in their dorm.  Sidney passes every semester, but I keep him as close to the "line" as possible.  Major has a 4.0 average.  I'm going to have Major ask a Dormie to "grow up" before graduating, just to see what happens.  Once Sidney and Major have graduated and Dudly has managed to make friends with one of the Dormies, I'll have each of them ask a Dormie to grow up.  Will post the results!

I like Wardrobe Wrangler too!

Suggestion on the nudes: Export the white undies and black out the alpha.  Pop that into your game when you're "test fitting" your skintones.  Take it out when you're actually playing (unless you really hate the white undies and would rather your Sims ran around nekkid).
243  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Object "In Use" Fixes (Request/WCIF) on: 2007 February 08, 07:54:21
I use the neutron bomb approach myself (deleteallcharacters and let the townies and dormies regenerate as necessary), so I have problems finding a 3-bolt match for my Sims.  One or two bolts is fine for me!
244  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: I know it has to be out there on: 2007 February 07, 19:04:43
I have a couple Sims who do this.  One is a former mascot and the other was a barista or something like that, so I was blaming it on stray BHAVs from when they were NPCs.  However, they also might just have sky high Outgoing scores...
245  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Question for restarting on: 2007 February 07, 18:57:23
I don't mind townies, and some of them do make decent looking kids.  The only thing that gets me after a while is the townies never growing up -- it gets silly when three generations have the same teen as their first kiss.  Roll Eyes  But our own Syberspunk has fixed that with his 'Grow up townies' hack (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,4842.0.html), so now I have a way to age the ones I want to and eventually have new townies come up behind them.

I forgot about this! I should use this. It sounds fun.

It's awesome.  I have my kids ask their best Townie kid friend to Grow Up at their teen birthday party.  I figure they'll go to Uni together eventually...

Kuronue:
1) Posting on hack threads is never considered necromancy.
2) Thank you for posting!  I missed syberspunk's response to my post.

Syberspunk:
Before installing your hack, I had an adult Sim ask a dormie to "move in".  That ex-dormie was basically a drop out, although they didn't have a Drop Out memory per se.
I then installed your hack and tried "growing up" a dormie, then asking her to move in.  The grown-up-dormie was indistinguishable from the moved-in-Dormie.  Only tried it once, since I didn't like the results.  Since then, I've just moved them into campus housing to make them controllables and graduated them the normal way.

I'd love if they could grow up as Drop Outs or as Graduates!

As soon as she's old enough to use the plastic surgery machine, do so!

Then run her through SimPE to copy the modified face to her inheritable genetics.

You don't want those genes reproduced!
249  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Question for restarting on: 2007 February 06, 18:45:48
Well, for good reason. Have you seen them? Besides, I don't particularly like how the townies seem to have no relatives and seemingly crawled out of the swamp. Actually, if you could point me in the nearest direction of said no-townie hacks, I'd be grateful.

http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/ffs/pets/hacks (or the name of your last expansion pack instead of pets)

Also get Nailati's face templates as they come out.  No more ugly townies!
250  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Installation problem on: 2007 February 05, 15:29:53
I've heard of weird stuff like that when people have tried making registry backups and swapping so that they could have separate installations (for example, to build with just the base game or the base game plus NL, but still play with everything).

Make sure you're installing OFB first, then the OFB patch, then Pets, then the Pets patch.
