I made a very basic creature the other day, mainly because I'd just discovered this technique. I call it Boxo, and it has three versions: Creature, Civ and Space.

I can't take all the credit for that though, I stumbled across the tip in my browsing. (I think it was a 1950s style robot on the Sporepedia, would've been either in the featured or the most popular list.) Feel free to dissect the creature to see what I did there.

Yes, all other Civ cities in Civ stage are your own race. Space stage pollinates the space-faring neighbours from random Civ and Space level races. (Plus other levels, on worlds that you can drop a monolith onto, but I've never had a monolithed race evolve with clothes...)

Space also pollinates with Civ-dressed creatures at Space level, so that does still 'work' for adding new races to encounter.

I read somewhere that Mini-Me's recharge time is the same as its existence time. I just tested it on easy, and, it is. So it should be possible to keep a Mini-Me active indefinitely, just annoying.

I don't know if that's necessarily true for every difficulty level, though.

To be honest, the pink/blue is not something I'd normally do. I just needed some colour to offset the massive amounts of wood/neutral tones. (If I was just building for myself, my own game, it would be all neutral tones.)

I had another go at this one. I'm not fond of the exterior, but it's okay, I guess. Price comes in at $67,278 after the wand treatment. I tried to keep it as intact as possible, I added a basement beneath, but kept the exterior walls as exterior.

Basement:

First Floor:

Second Floor:

I used far more decorative items than I normally would (ie, any) and there's a large unfurnished area on the ground floor. But I think I like the overall feel. If needed, the place where the nursery pods are could be remodeled to fit another bedroom, just knock down the pod walls and put another wall in, on line with the bathroom walls.

As is, the place has three bedrooms - one double, two twin singles - and a twin equipped nursery. There are five full bathrooms, but the only bath tubs are on the nursery level.

Get it here.

I found space was also pollinating with Civ creatures, so here are 15 of those. (Plus 3 from Space)
208  Serious Business / Spore Discussions / Re: Spore Vehicles on: 2008 September 23, 13:31:11
I don't actually know where the door ship came from, just something random. The four right after it were created specifically for races, the rest just came from me mucking about in the creator. Sometimes I think that the creator is more entertaining than the game!

I've had a bit of a play with the 'bug, and I kind of like the colour I've given it - though it looks much better on planet than in space - but the back legs were too far forward.

Mark 2:

Still some issues, but I might stick with this one for a while. (It actually fit one race, who'd gotten a really stupid-looking slapped together ship that I never even bothered to upload. So, yay.)

EDIT: If that's too bright in space, here's a slightly different version:

Here's a prototype UFO that I've been working on, using nested spheres in order to get the effect on the landing gear:

And some random completed models:

Aren't gravestones typically associated with character files? In other words, it is a Very Bad Idea to package a lot with them? I may be wrong, however.
211  Serious Business / Spore Discussions / Re: Any ideas on how to deal with the Grox? on: 2008 September 22, 06:02:56
I tried everything I could (Happy ray, I think it was fully upgraded, embassy, bribes, etc) and I could only get the relationship score with the Grox up to -20. They start out with a -70 "We hate strangers", and all methods of relation raising are far less effective on them, with a lower cap. (Usually you can keep using the happy ray - recharging between bursts - until they have gained 50 from that alone, but the Grox capped out far earlier.)

EDIT: Huh. Didn't check Arnina's link before posting... Interesting. I'll have to try that.

I have ... many. Some from the creature creator (all 48 of which are here) and some from Spore itself (here) - the latter link also includes some buildings, vehicles, and UFOs, for a current total of 120 post-Spore uploaded creations.

Some of my favourite creatures:

If you look where your badges/missions/etc are, one of the tab lists artifacts you've found. Galactic formations count as 'artifacts', and are ticked off there after seeing them. Basically there's the stellar disk, the black holes, and a bunch of different binary star combinations.

@Batelle: Ooh. I love that house. Excellent use of colour, and I love a house with big empty rooms. Expansion is important! I also love the pet room, though I so rarely play with pets myself. I can see a witch living here (with the witchery items in the secret attic space) with a family, and a familiar. I could even see the basement entertainment room converted into another bedroom, for the teen (or adult) who wants to get away from their parents without actually getting away.
215  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Apartment Life Borkiness, or how i ended the world in 1 hour. on: 2008 September 20, 09:25:58
Because you don't have to buy the apartment. A house is much more expensive in the short term, but cheaper in the long term. (Especially over several generations.) Everyone gets bills, homeowners and renters, everyone has to keep the power on and water running, but renters also have to pay rent. That's kind of the whole point.

I've been to Earth.  The system has Merury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.  No Pluto.  Earth, despite what you might think, is not guaranteed to be T3 nor is it inhabited by humans.  It was T1 when I got there, and had all sorts of weird creatures on it.

 - Gus

Mine was T1, but only had trees on it.

I have heard that there is an 'achievement' for destroying it, and that the achievement sticks even if you quit without saving, thus not actually losing Earth. (Which is handy, if you wanted to have more than one race find it, or had other plans for it.)

I kind of feel like I'm in Mostly Harmless territory, here. It's a very "Now what?" moment for me.
217  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Character Portraits on: 2008 September 19, 10:52:20
I hate that too. My problem is that, after a long play session, especially one with lots of re-rolling of portraits, the textures all become incredibly blurry, and look like crap. All details are set to high, but that doesn't help. I had gotten into the habit of re-rolling to get a crisp portrait at the start of the session, if it was blurry from the last time, but now there's no point, they go blurry again before long.

(And uploading stuff that's overcomplex doesn't work, for those of you who use the Sporepedia.)

Does .png sharing still work for them?
219  Serious Business / Spore Discussions / Re: Oh DUDE on: 2008 September 19, 09:33:33
Other galaxies would be unpopulated by PC characters. Possibly with a new nemesis, new galaxy-specific easter eggs, etc...

I'm thinking mainly back to Sims 1, where the limits were much harsher, true, but until the first expansion pack you couldn't even have other neighbourhoods, you were stuck with the one 10-lot hood, and several were already occupied. (Most notably the tutorial and the Goth lot.)
220  Serious Business / Spore Discussions / Re: Inaugural Creature Challenge on: 2008 September 19, 02:56:53
Hover over the skeleton portion you wish to enlarge/shrink and use the scroll-wheel. Don't know how to do it if you don't have a scroll wheel, + and - buttons?
221  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Speed up, Speed up, SPEED UP FFS!!!!11!ONE! on: 2008 September 19, 02:37:25
I think it was the townies. As far as I recall, it won't automatically go to speed 3 if anyone - sim or pet, playable or no - is awake and on the lot.
222  Serious Business / Spore Discussions / Re: Inaugural Creature Challenge on: 2008 September 19, 02:34:14
I use a super high tech Print Screen + Paint combo for my screenshots. Roll Eyes Apparently you can take in-game photos by pressing C, but this may only work while playing. The creature creator should have an inbuilt camera, also. Look for the camera-like icon, probably in 'test drive' mode.
223  Serious Business / Spore Discussions / Re: Easter Eggs on: 2008 September 19, 02:30:47
I have had that same quote running through my head since hitting the space stage, and seeing the relative size of my planet to the entire galaxy. Nothing, and I mean nothing, has impressed upon me just how vast space is, not like this. I've long been a fan of sci-fi, countless sci-fi, some spanning multiple galaxies, but, to mangle the quote, "that's just peanuts to Spore." It actually feels vast. Even with my high tech engine, there are planets I can't reach. Arms of the galaxy going completely unexplored. It's mind-boggling, that's for sure.
224  Serious Business / Spore Discussions / Re: Oh DUDE on: 2008 September 19, 01:53:23
I don't know, have you seen how many stars are out there? You have entire arms with only one or two, there's still plenty of room.

That said, I have a feeling the first expansion will enable you to play other galaxies. Just a hunch. (I seem to be expanding at a rate of one a day also, though I've been slowing down since I had one reach the core.)
225  Serious Business / Spore Discussions / Re: Spore Vehicles on: 2008 September 18, 05:41:53
Go to My Documents, there should be a folder there called My Spore Creations. Within that folder are folders like Creatures and Vehicles, those automatically contain the .png files of the (non-Maxoid) things in your game. This is where you get them from if you want to share yours, and where you can put them if you download others. (You can also drag and drop the .pngs into your game, handy if you're not sure whether you're looking at a vehicle or a UFO/spaceship, as these go in different folders.)
