176  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Just a word of warning - - Walmart Prima Guide on: 2009 June 05, 08:54:15
Why would Prima print two different sizes of the same guide? Is the smaller guide at Wal-Mart cheaper?

OH MY FUCKING GOD! That's what this whole thread is about! WTF!

Really?  I have to admit, I haven't seen anything that explains why it's printed in two different sizes, or even whether one is less expensive than the other.  I saw you say that you returned yours at Wal-Mart and bought a new one at Game Stop.  I didn't see you mention anything about a price difference.

Has anyone finished writing books yet?  One of my sims received an opportunity to donate three self-written books to the City Hall, so I had him work on that. Unfortunately, now that the books are done I can't seem to find a way to actually get them; I looked for some sort of "order copy of book" option on the phone, computer and mailbox, but got nothing. I tried the book store as well, but they weren't on the list. The only place I *did* find one of them was the library, but those books can't be purchased as far as I could tell.

After the book is complete, a free copy should arrive in the mailbox.  I've also received them by joining the bookclub (this may be limited to bookworm Sims).
178  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Razor1911 release vs. Reloaded release on: 2009 June 04, 06:18:11
Well, logically, if the store stuff got you interested again (among other things), you'd want the version that can use the store stuff, yes?

Due to download limits (I live on the edge of the 3rd world), and because it was working perfectly well, I never changed from my original Reloaded install, and all the store stuff has worked fine for me (with the aid of Pes' tool, etc.).
179  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Facts & Strategery / Re: Traits Cheat Sheet - Work in Progress on: 2009 June 04, 06:11:05
Someone has been kind enough to send me a list of when traits become available for born-in-game Sims, as well as more incompatibility info, so I'll be doing an update soon with all the new info here.  Just wanted to post this to save anyone the effort of compiling identical info.

A decent length nap coughs up the "Nice Nap" moodlet (or something along those lines) which can be handy for counteracting the negative mood effects from sleepiness.  Sleeping in general is a pain... Even with the highest bed they seem to need to sleep forever.
181  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / World of Puddings / Re: Goopy MkII on: 2009 June 03, 22:01:55
Too bad there's not a bastard trait; that would definitely fit him.  Hmm, I'd give Goopy:

Hotheaded
Evil
Kleptomaniac
Loser
Clumsy

And yes, he'd definitely be a socks-and-sandals kind of guy, the oaf.
182  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: How to Torture Sims on: 2009 June 03, 21:57:50
Really?  I can't even see other family "saves" on the map...  Maybe this is caused by tight pants issues.  I will poke around.

Well, if you're giving each family its own save, then no, you won't see them.  I just play families until I'm done/bored with them and then abandon them to their own devices elsewhere in the neighborhood.  In my current game, I'm on Gen 2, who happily go and see their parents whenever I want to check to make sure they (the parents) haven't spawned any new offspring.  They seem to be behaving themselves so far.

Has anyone seen the magician in action? I keep coming across him in town, but I've yet to see him do anything... magiciany.
184  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Technical problems with THE HORROR: downloading, installing, and running it on: 2009 June 03, 18:28:21
Wow..if they would put as much work into fixing the game issues that they do in creating ways to keep us honest, it might be a really amazing game.

Hell, it could have been worth staying "honest" for.
185  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Facts & Strategery / Re: Traits Cheat Sheet - Work in Progress on: 2009 June 03, 18:21:03
That sounds like a plan.  I'm determined this time around to do something useful after leeching off the hard work of others for so long.  I'll continue keeping notes and tracking hard-and-fast data and update accordingly.
186  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Facts & Strategery / Re: Traits Cheat Sheet - Work in Progress on: 2009 June 03, 17:23:17
Aha... Good, that saves me lots of note taking.

Also, resetting NPCs causes them to disappear.  I had some stuck babysitters that I lost this way, though thankfully my sim wasn't at work and was able to come home.

Resetsim puts the Sim back at their home lot, so I guess NPCs get zapped back to whatever invisilot it is they inhabit.
189  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: THE HORROR: The REAL TS3 Scoop As It Unfolds on: 2009 June 03, 07:37:15

resetsim name name has never worked for me. I told the dad to read to the toddler, so he put the kid in the high chair. Then took him out. Then put him in. Then took him out. So I got fed up and sold the high chair. The kid vanished with it. I have been unable to recover him, despite him still showing in the family picture and the relationships being intact.

Resetsim is not the solution for a deleted Sim, it is the alternative to deleting a Sim.  If a Sim gets stuck in an action or refuses to respond, you use resetSim to essentially recreate the Sim near his home.
190  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: The music, it must die! on: 2009 June 02, 23:42:49
I love the soundtrack. Smiley

I know people were complaining here about custom music with the leak version but I just saw someone on LJ who had the legal version talking about dropping music into the "Custom" folder and listening to it in the game.

The only complaints I saw about custom music is the fact that you can no longer sort them into your own radio stations, or even add them to existing stations.  Instead they all get lumped into a "Custom Music" station.

Have you recently installed a program that might be co-opting the keystrokes?  I installed PointerXP once and it was mapped to use CTRL-Shift-C.  As a result, I was no longer able to use that key sequence in the Sims.  Remapping the hotkey in PointerXP resolved the issue.  Of course, I can't think of anything that would interfere with the Delete key...
192  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Downloading Anything for sims 3 on: 2009 June 02, 17:08:34
To get CC from EA's "Official" Site for the Sims 3 means agreeing to install a digital download program.  Unless I'mmistaken that sounds like no CC without Securom.  It may not come with the game this time, but it is required in order to get on the exchange.

It's a download manager, not Securom, and it has been confirmed on this board not to be infested with Securom either.
193  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: How to Torture Sims on: 2009 June 02, 08:18:13
Do ghosts persist between "saves"?  Given that the new game seems to strongly discourage any interaction between player-made sim families, I wonder if even ghosts stay on a lot if I sacrifice them all and then move another CAS family in...

In what way does the game discourage interaction between CAS families? Much of the game's strength, IMO, comes from the fact that it is so much easier to interact with different families that I've created.
194  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Career Profitability and Perks on: 2009 June 02, 06:02:58
A different time on a different sim that wasn't a criminal I couldn't find the seed after a while.  Maybe they die and disappear from inventory.

Seeds don't die.  Well, if they do, they take an incredibly long time to do so, because my Sim picked up a special seed shortly after I created him in CAS and 17 weeks later, he finally got around to planting it.
195  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Facts & Strategery / Re: Choosing Sex of Babies on: 2009 June 02, 05:54:00
if the wife and husband both have the fertility treatment, tripliets is 100% guranteed so your family will multiply like acursed ants!!

Wrong.  2 Sims with Fertility Treatment are perfectly capable of producing twins, and I'd wager that they could even have singles.

In short, all refrigerators owned by family share some kind of interdimensional portal to a single meta-fridge.

I think this is intentional, and I prefer it.  It appears that fridges aren't actually containers themselves, they're just "access points" to some global household fridge container.  Which is far preferable to me; no more lost produce because you forgot to keep a fridge.
197  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: The Good, the Bad, and the Randomly @Toaded on: 2009 June 01, 16:38:44
It does build a hidden blocks skill, which gives them logic skill once they become a child. My toddler had level three block skill and was promoted to level three logic skill as soon as she started playing chess for the first time.

The table builds logic skill?  My toddler used it to no effect.  She built her 3 pre-logic points using the little block sorter.  I made sure to have her use the table first, to ensure it wasn't actually building skill.
198  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Facts & Strategery / Re: A special breed on: 2009 June 01, 13:54:00

He's not a service sim.  He's a playable in a household of unrelated single sims (around 5 of them I think, although I haven't played that lot).

Since you pipped me to the post, I'll just add that he lives in the Roomies or Working Friends household.  They're right next door to each other, can never remember which it actually is.
199  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: THE HORROR: The REAL TS3 Scoop As It Unfolds on: 2009 June 01, 09:08:33
Haven't noticed any benefits from Dirt Defiant perk either.

Dirt defiant significantly slows down hygiene decay for my Sims.  My nonathletic Dirt Defiant Sims only need a shower around every 3rd day.

It would be really nice if they kept a tally somewhere of the number of books a sim has read for the wish to read fifty books and similar ones like it. Apparently a small counter on the wish is too much to ask for.

I'm seem to remember that the writing skill journal keeps track of the number of read, which led me to wonder if the number of books read increases the quality of those written.
