Ah, I wasn't aware that it gets them going inland -- I only had it get them when they went out too far.
Yeah, me too. A nest underwater? What the hell? That's really strange. I thought the nests during creature phase were always in the same general locations on each planet. Guess not.

i am wondering if anyone else is facing slow game after installing apartment life? my game is crashing when my sims try to accept a job from newspaper(havent tried with computer)
Are you shift-clicking the newspaper in debug mode? I'm asking because this apparently has been broken for some time. As for slower game play, I've actually read that people are experiencing the opposite.

Simply edit the text files in the wants.package?
I have thought about doing that, but it's nonsensical to me. Have you ever seen what's in there?! I didn't even know some of those symbols existed! It's probably not something someone with little to no skill with computers (read: me) should do, but I wanted to try anyway. Oh, well. I'll live.

Is it just me or did we lose the ability to cancel out putting down homework with AL? It's driving me nuts that Sim kids are walking up 3 flights of steps to their apartment just to put their schoolbooks by the desk in their home. Teens just barely put their homework down then have to go to work. Waste of time.
Pretty much all sims who have attempted to play the piano are not even completing one skill before they stop for no plausible reason.
Why can't Sims run up spiral stairs like they can normal staircases? I want them to run, dammit.
Aph
I, too, have all of these issues in my game. I can't cancel out the "At School" icon at all. They go all the way to their apartment to put it down on the desk (where they can't pick it back up--known issue, I know). I've only had the piano jump bug a couple of times. They just stop and stand up. Usually, they'll autonomously go back to it.

I got to page 13 and my eyes started to cross. In a completely CC free game no school bus comes to apartment lots. I noticed this was mentioned a couple times but I'm not sure if anyone figured out the cause of it. I thought it was tight pants but when I took everything out and it was still happening I knew it couldn't be. My kids can obviously walk to school but those pop-ups (which don't come up now) reminded me how much time I had when I'm playing a big house. Not impressed It seems this is only happening to binned (and/or premade, but I think just binned) apartments. I don't remember if there was any "fix" for it, as the kids can theoretically just walk to school. But, this was the issue, and you're not alone. Sorry I can't give you more info than that. Hopefully someone will chime in with more details. I'm still trying to figure out my gardening issue. Anyone? Is this in anyway related to the dailygardener.package? Is that preventing the landlord from gardening? I suppose I'll take it out for now and test...just wondering.

TS2: Burnination / The War Room / Re: Enabling Build/Buy In Apartments

I used both boolprop cheats to get rid of spiral stairs and add an elevator (that apartment where the guy with the adopted teenager daughter). I turned them off right after (and did not experience what the above poster is experiencing).
I've experienced a few weird things after, and I don't know if it's related to these cheats, so I'm asking:
The landlord won't garden, there's no option to make her, and there's no Gardener listed on the Service area of the phone. Homework placed on a desk is inaccessible, so I have to go into Buy mode and move it to the floor. I invited a Sim over. She went up the elevator, looked at the snow outside the "window" (there was no window in that room), turned around and left. I called her back when she left the lot and invited her back over and everything worked fine.
Are any of these things at all related to using the cheats? I'm running AL;DC with a few hacks taken out. I'm just at a loss about this stuff, especially the Gardener. I would like at least THAT to work.

Is anyone else having Gardening issues on apartment lots? I'm playing the guy with the adopted daughter in Belladonna Cove. The landlord won't garden; there's not an option for it if I call her. The Gardener doesn't show up under services, so I can't hire him/her either.
I have the AL;DC with a few hacks removed.
The only weird thing I did was change the zoning (yes, while they were living there) to get rid of the spiral stairs and build elevators. I boolpropped back to "true" for both cheats right after.
Any ideas?
ETA: I seem to remember this problem mentioned already, but homework placed on a desk (any desk, I've tried quite a few) is inaccessible after it's placed. I have to go into Buy mode and move it to the floor.

I pre-ordered it last week like an idiot. I'm working on a show right now where my first line is SIX pages long (roughly 15 minutes of me just talking to a guy under a sheet). Then I have to memorize the REST of the play. So I'll be owning Spore fairly soon, but I won't get to play it for at least a month! Hopefully all the kinks will be worked out while it's sitting, unopened, on my desk.

I'm just saying after wandering several community lots and playing both apartments and non-apartments briefly, there were no signs of new faces other than those produced as apartment neighbors. And one witch.
Do you mean actually seeing or looking at the amount of character files? Because I haven't seen more than two or three different townies while playing SEVERAL houses, but the character files just keep on growing and growing and growing. I promise to shut-up after your reply to this.

I haven't seen any wild, uncontrollable spawning, the only time new townies spawn is to populate apartment blocks.
You keep saying this, but people are complaining about hundreds of character files spawning in new hoods with no apartments, or in university neighborhoods. I know you're not wrong (you're never wrong), but could you explain this for the non-awesome? I mean, I'm personally curious, but I'm also getting weary of people ZOMG-ing over it.

Well, shoot. I'm not sure what the problem is here then...I'm wondering if the phonehack is required to make the cell phone fix work. I doubt it, as Pes didn't say so. Sorry, I can't help you any further. Maybe someone else will have an idea.

Hi guys, let me first say how very much I appreciate all you do for our Sims. I downloaded these files and I put them in like this: Downloads/Hacks/ and everything seemed to be fine until it came time to use the cell phone, they never got to use it, they would kind of jerk a little and the cell would vanish. Am I doing something wrong? Please forgive my ignorance, I don't use too many hacks, I am extremely selective about them....... so forgive me. lol This might sound like a stupid question, but I'm going to ask. Are you putting it in Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/Downloads/Hacks (this is where is SHOULD go)? I'm asking because Vista has a folder in Documents called Downloads, and that's not where it goes. Sometimes I accidentally click on that and freak out because there's nothing Sims related in it. Let us know. Also, do you have CC enabled? To enable, you have to start the game, enable CC, then close the game and restart for the change to take effect. Let us know about this too.

but another potential problem I forgot to mention before is that roomies will not share a double bed with my Sims.
I had the opposite happen. In the middle of the night, my roomie got in the double bed with my Sim, even though he had his own bed. It was weird because they're both men and not gay. However, they were at Friends level, so no one got out of bed and bitched. So, maybe you're ShareBeds is screwing it up.

Is it possible to alter somehow the character files of the townies you already have in order to induct them into the Social Groups, thereby eliminating the need for the EAfug swarm?
This is what EAxis should have done, the dumbasses. I don't really care that I have ugly townies (I make "pretty" Sims, so I need some variety in the gene pool), but I hate that the game is creating MOAR character files for a feature that I haven't used or seen. Where the hell ARE these new townies? I can't get more than 2 or 3 people on the same community lot most of the time, and they're usually the SAME 2 or 3 people!
