Sims can eat gyros?  Must go look.

As to the patch, this looks semi-useful, but I'm waiting for someone more OCD than me about downloading new stuff to check it out and render a verdict.

Tigerlily, the social groups are the techies, the jocks, and so on, there are 5 of them, and they have the different greetings, like High 5, kiss-kiss.

I'm on here, too, to see if there are problems with installing it;  haven't noticed half of that stuff, but HAVE had my game crash on vacation, when they walk to another lot...I even took all my hacks out, except for the unofficial patch found here.

In other words...No one knows.  They're pointless, they're practically invisible and you can't join one.

And now, with the patch, after you've already got 400 of them, the game will kindly spawn "significantly less".

Siginficantly less: (EAxis phrase) "not as many as before, but still more than you ever wanted."

Tiger: if you don't know what a social group is, you likely have a clean template, antiredundancy, and notownieregen all installed.  Rejoice therefore.  ;D

This is probably a silly question, but does the second patch include all the fixes from the first patch?

One would assume, yet first patch fixes aren't in the "Complete list of changes".  Confuses my over-literal brain.

Post by: Tigerlilley on 2008 October 23, 14:43:53
No clean template sadly...

Ugh.  Ugh! What were they thinking! Are they all retarded? I am beyond understanding of what the shit goes through EA's head.  Do you think anyone there has actually played the game before?

Title: Re: Second AL patch is out.
Post by: Zazazu on 2008 October 23, 15:23:06
Sure they play it! They pop the CD in, play for 10 minutes (enough to load the game, a 'hood, and a household and run it for a minute). Then they stamp "PASS" on it and move on to the next EP.

They still haven't fixed the missing Neighbourhood deco building! They brought back the hexagonal one in P1, but the new building that came with AL is still AWOL.

They play it enough to get us screen shots, trailers, and developers diaries.

During which they freeze the motives and take off free will so that the sims don't do anything stupid while they're showing someone build a car.

They dress alike?
Hadn't noticed that.  Was wondering how to recognise them.  Had been using a hack to display family number.
Dunno about pointless.
They do have jobs, and can offer you an entry higher up the career, or give you higher salery through their connections.
Get cheaper furniture / cheaper rent / instant date - are some of the things I've seen from these people.

Want to make an enemy of one to see if they screw you over too :)

The problem being that you don't know who their connections are until after you've reached the friend/enemy point.  Typical EA backwardsness.  If I knew he was my boss's best friend, I'd probably be nice no matter how much of an ass he was.

Plus, let some asshole demote me for unrelated off work activities just because he knows a guy.  Hello lawsuit!

Where's our sim lawyers dammit!

The thing is, there aren't actually any connections or boss. It's totally random. I had a sim claim to be the cousin of someone. The family tree firmly reveals that this is false, because the sim's parents and even their grandparents do not have siblings.

The hilarious thing is that the last laugh is on you: If you are demoted despite being qualified, you will just immediately be repromoted again, likely on the same day, for immediately going back to work, and get paid nearly 4x for the same day's work: 1x for the lower pay of the new job, 3x again of your previous position for going back and getting promoted back to it. :P Suckers.

Call it your lawsuit bonus. :P

Random indeed! I also got a promotion from my neighbour because she claimed she was my bosses cousin. My sim was in the law enforcement career, while the neighbour was clearly in the criminal career by the way she dressed when she went to work. I thought that was pretty funny. Mafia anyone?

You know its utter twaddle when

You get stalked by one of them who is the bosses cousin and can get you a promotion or pay rise , runs her own intelligence agency and wants you to join , is a designer for a tv AND computer company and wants you to test things AND also works for a furniture company and can get you a discount next time you shop NO MATTER what type of furniture or appliance you want .

And not only that the company who she wants you to test for can afford to give EVERY single sim in town a tv and computer to try so that NO one has to EVER buy one anyway or ever has to fill in a questionaire about if they are any good .

PS . Does anyone know a shop that would want to buy 20 unused TV's and 15 unused computers as my sim walks funny from carying them all around in her pocket along with the misc rakes , hedge trimmers , snapdragons , robots , fish  and other stuff she has

Bills will now autonomously be brought into Sim's apartments

Do we have a solution for apartment dwellers like we do with the hacked Mailbox cover for residential residents?

I've got demoted by townies before. But one day a Sim that my Sim had just met decided to ding him for already having a bad rep. All they had done is greet each other. He said his relative owned the catalog or something like that and I would have to pay top dollar from now on. Everything in the catalog went up in price! If I bought an item then changed my mind and sold it back right then, I would pay the high price but only be refunded the normal price. Several days later I was notified that my Sim was forgiven and the prices went back to normal. I thought it was kinda funny.

My very same thought.

The first time I saw an apartment sim putting down the bills near the mailbox I cheered: YAY! Eaxis did something right (i.e. LOGICAL), for once!
Of course, I was wrong.

Who, in the whole Universe, ever complained for that "bug"??? Rod Humble maybe?

Did you notice that the Rod Humble unique sim is hidden and protected from any "use" way more than any other similar sim? Pollination Tech is almost playable, in comparison.
I smell FEAR...

Rufio, running the patched .exe from the official site will put SecuROM on your computer. That's part of its goal in life. In order to avoid ever getting SecuROM from Sims2 products, you need to use the no-CD at all times to run your game. Do not install a patch without having a patched no-CD available. Do not mix and match. It's not a buffet line.

Title: Re: Second AL patch is out.
Post by: rufio on 2008 October 24, 23:36:43
I don't mean the exe to play the game - I mean the exe file that you download from the official site which installs the patch.  Because the no-cd on GameCopyWorld says to install the patch (with the exe downloaded from the official site) first.  I know not to run the game without a no-cd.

I knew the patch change for Apartment Sims to retrieve their bills was going to be a problem. Now I am having half-dead Sims get up out of bed to get the bills when they live in a residence! It seems to pick whichever Sims has the worst motives, like it does when it chooses a Sim to age up infants.

My seriously ill, pregnant mom was made to repeatedly get out of bed while the father played near the mailbox. I say repeatedly because I kept canceling it from the queue. So if you cancel it, you need to get another Sim to get the bills or it will just keep calling that same Sim over and over. The only good news is that the modded mailbox cover is still working for the residential Sims. They place it there rather than inside, although once when I told them to pay the bills they ran to the edge of the lot to retrieve bills on the sidewalk. I didn't see them place them there, so I'm not sure what happened with that.

Title: Re: Second AL patch is out.
Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2008 October 25, 08:19:59
Because the bills are no doubt "false advertising", causing the sim with the worst values to respond to it, while the action itself does not help. Try global-proscribing the mailbox. Slapping a global proscription on mailboxen ought to kill that one dead.

Title: Re: Second AL patch is out.
Post by: Inge on 2008 October 25, 11:04:40
Or a more positive approach might be that whichever sim is forced to get the mail, actually does get all the advertised motives greened up. :)

I wonder if Sims 3 has made any attempt at AI programming?

I wonder if Sims 3 has made any attempt at AI programming?
According to all the preview demonstrations, where it always ends with some sim pissing itself, the answer is firmly a "No".

In fact, the very demonstration of "visiting another sim's home" illustrated exactly what I mentioned would happen: That the sim, trapped with no rabbit hole to retreat to, proceeded to piss itself.

This is unencouraging, given that they ELIMINATED NEARLY ALL OF THE OTHER MOTIVES, leaving only the 3 "core" motives, yet the sim was STILL unable to prevent a failure. All this suggests that the AI has not only failed to improve, it has, in fact, gotten considerably worse.

Title: Re: Second AL patch is out.
Post by: Inge on 2008 October 25, 12:05:58
After Sims 3 comes out and we are sure there are no more Sims 2 EPs, I want to rewrite Sims 2.

First I would introduce proper categorisation to all objects.  Then, instead of looking around the lot and for each object's options thinking "hmm how attractive is this to the aggregate of my needs" the sim will think "Do I have any needs?"  and having identified one, it will  look for an object of category "bladder relief".  Then the sim will run "CT - empty bladder" on that object.  Never mind trying to guess what menu option number it is.  It will work more like the functional trees.   This will loop round all bladder relief objects until the sim finds one it can reach.   Preferably after sorting by distance.

In fact there is no reason bladder relief should not be nested in other productive avtivities.

In other words, you want to reinvent Macrotastics? :P

I don't know if I have completely misunderstood macrotastics or what.  I have understood it to be taking EA's idea of things pushed onto sims queues by exernal controllers a step further.  My idea is to have the entire thing Sim-driven, for themselves.  For example, a sim busy reading to her child is not very likely to be planning her next fight.  The controller plans it for her however and interrupts her reading.

Title: Re: Second AL patch is out.
Post by: jolrei on 2008 October 25, 16:12:24
Macrotastics plans fights?

I don't think macrotastics plans anything unless you set it up to do so.  If you have your sim set to macro-hobbinate, the sim will update relationships, take care of needs (terlet, food, etc) and then will hobbinate in the hobby of choice.  If it is hobbinating, I'm not sure it will "read to toddler" - never yet has happened in my game.  If I want a sim to read to its spawn, I don't have it macro-ing.

I have noticed that if a vampire is set to macro-hobbinate during daylight hours (if he's in his crypt where the sun-it-burns does not shine, he will be sent to the coffin, sent to the bathroom, and then will hobbinate until the energy bar drops a bit, and then will be sent back to the coffin, rinse, repeat for the rest of daylight hours.  Clearly, vampires should be in their coffins when the sun is up.

For now the Auto Bill Payer object from Sim Wardrobe might be a good workaround for you ( http://www.simwardrobe.com/ ) . Look in the Home Life improvements bit in the Sims 2 objects section there . The bills are pretty much automatically paid just a moment or two after they've just arrived which hopefully won't even give a sim time to queue up an action for the mailbox  :)

I installed it about 5 minutes ago (I'm infected with Securom already anyway).  No problems so far, but, you know, I've only been playing for 5 minutes.  Anyway, it didn't cause a reset.  The 2 lots that I've visited so far were exactly as I left them.  I seem to remember that patches caused a game reset... is that just my imagination?  Did it not install properly, or can anyone else with the patch confirm this?

Installing the patch will not install SecuROM on your system.

Thanks for confirming that, guys.  I'm just too paranoid about this.

Pescado, I love macrotastics, but if the whole AI system were run the same way, it would get boring.  It'd be nicer to see something similar that allowed for some randomness dependent on the personality of the sim, the sim's mood, etc.  After all, people don't always do the most logical thing either.

it's 50/50 chance really imo, same as how some people find that installing new EPs or SPs wipes out their DL folder, others find their DL folder all safe intact after a new EP installation.

Pescado, I love macrotastics, but if the whole AI system were run the same way, it would get boring.  It'd be nicer to see something similar that allowed for some randomness dependent on the personality of the sim, the sim's mood, etc.  After all, people don't always do the most logical thing either.
Sims, alas, don't have enough character attributes to really define differentiation. One approach I've used is to check the macro-network for basic motives, and if all basics are filled, allow the EAxis AI to pick something at random.

Does anyone with the patch know if the spawning has actually stopped, like it is supposed to? Maybe someone with Securom on their machine, who is willing to take out notownieregen?

The spawning never stops. EAxis likes to pile MOAR SIMS at us.

This sounds like coffin-ADHD. You should get the Sleep Clock to prevent it.

did they have fixed the "call for emergency" queue ?
actually i still have the problem that the sims didn't run to the phone and the "react to the fire" cancel the "call for emergency" action  ::)

Uh, Isn't it that way by design? I remember they always acted that way, since the base game.

I find it funny that they bothered to code all this new stuff dealing with fires, an old problem that players should have long since conquered.

This sounds ideal.  I hate having my sims sit around like lumps on power idle, but only slightly less than I hate them constantly committing motive-suicide.  I like seeing my sims live out their lives and do their own thing...I just don't like that their own thing involves ignoring their needs.

Yes, I just said the same thing twice.

Right, I've got a problem.

I got AL today, and obviously don't want Suckurom. However:

- I can't download patch 1 (since EA replaced it with patch 2) and apply a no cd to it
- The archives for the no cd of the basegame I've found, are all corrupt, or the download mirrors don't work (none of them)

So basically, I can't play until a no cd for patch 2 comes out. Is there anyone who can:

- Zip up patch 1 for me and post a download link or
- Do the same with a working patch 1 no cd archive?

Cheers...

You could attempt the unholy hybrid. Use a no-cd from patch 1 while playing a patch 2 game. No guarantees, though.

You could also not patch, use original no-CD, and use Pescado's fixes, like most of us here. I never even swallowed patch 1.

Did you try GameCopyWorld?  I just tried to download the no cd no patch, and it worked fine.

Do not install until a reliable no-cd for ALp2 is released, unless you want securom back on your system.
I installed the patch like the kerrazy mow foe I am and it works fine with the previous No-CD cracked *.exe. So fill your boots.
Congrats, you are now playing the game as an Unholy Hybrid. Enjoy.

This is how we've always played the game.  My husband tried to remove Securom after reading this thread and he can't find it anywhere.  We use the launcher and a NoCD cracked game exe files.  So I guess we've been lucky in not getting Securom?

I bet you would like to redesign the game so that all sims have an MBTI type instead.

I've been using the original no-cd version with Dizzy's fixes for the portrait changes.

I agree with Zazazu: with alfixes, you don't really need the EA patch 1.

Nah, smart in not getting the SecuROM. The noCDs strip the SecuROM regardless, and there's nowhere else in the game files to get it from. You're slightly stupid in risking issues caused by references in the game .exe not matching core files.

I've tried both that one and gameburn thingie, one has mirrors that lead to 'file not found', the other has a corrupt archive for me. (don't remember which is which atm.) I'm getting a lot of 'corrupt archive' errors with winrar lately though, so it's possible that the problem is on my end, but I've no clue how to even begin fixing it and too tired atm to do research on it.

I would love to, but I can't seem to get the original no-cd downloaded. That's why I was asking if any of you could share a confirmed-to-work one.

Thanks Mootilda, I've had a really shitty day but you've just shone a bit of light into it  :-* I'll figure out how to install the dizzy thing in the morning when I've got a clear head.

Macrotastics doesn't specifically "push" an action as an external controller, it's just a launcher. The player selects the action much as one would select any other action. The "Advanced" AI version that I am tinkering with takes it a step further, and hotwires the part where an autonomous action would be chosen and instead performs a Core Motives Green Check under Macrotastics: If an action is not found (either because nothing was available or because all core motives are green), it will then permit the EAxis AI to function.

Just downloaded original no CD crack - to check I was giving you the right one. I haven't patched my game yet, Pescado's fixes work well and I don't see the need.

No CD crack for unpatched Apartment Life (http://www.box.net/shared/5inl7q1qdl) This crack is from my actual game.

Thanks a million for that witch, it works fine :) *sheepie button*

What's worrying me is that my winrar keeps throwing corrupted file errors at me. I've redownloaded it and reinstalled it, but it even gives corrupt files on the AL director's cut zip. And I *know* that one should work, cause otherwise there'd be a lot of moaning going on.

Solutions? H4xorz? Wisdom?

Try 7Zip.  Works well for me.

Other suggestions:  Scan your hard drive for errors.  Defragment your hard drive.  Try putting the compressed files on a different disk.  Scan for viruses, spyware, adware, SecuROM, ...  An unhealthy system can produce odd problems like this.

Do you suggest getting the new patch or sticking with the unpatched game and your fixes?

Patch p1 is recommended. There is presently no opinion on p2 due to SecuROM.

I must be the eternal optimist... I keep hoping that EA will actually fix something with these patches.

Now that the no-cd for patch 2 is available, is there any verdict on whether we can continue to use alfixes with patch 2?

Stupid question, which one do I download?  I see there is a V 1.0, V1.16.0.187 and a V1.16.0.194.  Does anyone know the difference? Or do I need all 3?  Sorry for the noob question, just trying to avoid having to post in at the Podium when I end up breaking my game.

V1.16.0.187 = For AL patch 1
V1.16.0.194 = For AL patch 2

Yes: Although SOME of the horribly crippling issues are fixed, not all of them are. EAxis fixes are also generally insuperior and don't do as good a job.

Thank you, Xiomberg.  Now, do I need all 3?  I have not downloaded either patch, as of yet.  Do these build on each other, or do I just used the last(est) version?

Again, so for the noobness, I have not used an EAxis patch before, due to the horror stories post-patch.  But I figured it was bad enough this time to actually try it.

You only need the latest versions of everything.  You should also install all of the other EA patches.  Pescado doesn't bother fixing every little bug that has already been addressed in an official patch.

Installing the patch doesn't give you SecuROM.  However, running the patched EXE without a no-cd will give you SecuROM.
