Title: Nightlife and Twins
Post by: Charamei on 2005 November 10, 11:07:49
Has anyone else noticed a sudden increase in twins with Nightlife installed?

It's getting rather stupid in my neighbourhood... as far as I'm aware, I've never installed a twins hack (though I do download a fair few houses, so it's not impossible).

So... when I got NL, I reinstalled the game and started setting up the neighbourhood again. Two months later, I have four sets of twins. Four!

One set is clean: I made them in CAS.
One set is the result of an alien abduction. I used boolProp to get the abduction, but the twins were definitely a surprise.
The other two sets are from the same parents, with two other single-birth kids between them.

Prior to reinstalling (and hence, installing Nightlife), I'd never had twins before in over a year of play. I'm now wondering if NL has upped the odds, or if I've installed something by accident. I'm finding it... rather annoying.

Opposite problem here - not a single set of twins at all since nightlife was installed!

afraid I can't give you any ideas on the sudden twin influx...  purely random?  but if you think it's necessary, it certainly wouldn't hurt to start checking through your downloads

I think there is a hack that increases the odds for twins.  Maybe you have inadvertently downloaded it in a house?

When I first got the base game, the first babies born were twins. That was bad - I had no idea how to take care of them, poor little things. And then, when I'd have liked twins, all the others were singles. (So I went off and got the triplets and quads hack.) I don't think I had any babies after I installed Uni.

When I installed Nightlife, the first babies born were twins (no hacks, all removed for installation). Then, when I'd really have liked to have twins, I had 6 more babies and they were all singles. Figures. I've found that if I want twins (and especially can afford them and have room for them) I won't get them. If it'd be a hassle, there are twins ;) And I wonder if the odds aren't increased with the first baby or something. Anyways, I like the triplets and quads hack so I can choose how many babies I want.

Just read my post on Darleen's baby and tell me how I solve that problem!!!!!  It's over 24 hours, and Darleen is still pregnant, I can't get rid of the duplicate baby boy, I can't buy a mind control mirror to see what's happening, I can't DO anything!

It does almost seem that the likely hood has increased since NL but I think it's just chance still at this point until someone can prove otherwise.

Last night I had two twin births in my game..one right after the other.

I am playing another one of my legacy 'hoods..this one being of the recreation of myself and my fiance.

The sim version of myself had a daughter who is now grown.  Her and her husband had twins..a boy and a girl.

I went back to the house with my sim self and sim fiance and decided to get pregnant one last time in hopes of getting one more boy...what do you know..sim me ended up popping out  twin girls.

How ironic really.  I mean had it been a single birth and I wanted a boy I wouldn't have been that surprised..but twin girls?!  Whenever my sims have twins, 99% of the time it ends up being a boy AND a girl.  Out of all the twins I've had since playing this game only once have I gotten a boy/boy combo and only twice have I gotten a girl/girl combo.

I know I could have just reloaded until I got the genders that I wanted..but I like to play with what the game gives me.

Same here - no twins since installing NL, though no complaints from me.

I've found that all the twins I've had have been to families that have been least able to afford them, especially if they haven't had room for them.  As most of my families now have plenty of spare cash and decent houses with room to spare, the twins have definitely tailed-off.

Title: Re: Nightlife and Twins

My first pregnancy, to an affluent but career oriented couple, in Night Life resulted in girl/girl twins and then I had a ridiculous run of male singles.  Until, of course, I wanted a boy.  My avatar sim and her husband can't have a boy to save their lives- I saved and replayed her second delivery 10 times and was getting the recessive alien skin on a couple, but no boy.

Now I have the triplets and quads hacks.  I've yet to get a natural set of twins for the familes I don't use the cheat on, but my children since NightLife gender ratio is still skewed:  16 boys to 5 girls.  I've never had that sort of imbalance before.

I seem to have quiet alot of single births and then I have about 5 sets of twins in 5 different families and then more single births. It also seem that the twins are more common in households that are twins or that their gandparent were a twin.

I don't know if it was just pure chance but I created a custom hood in which I made all the 7 couples there (1 CAS created matched with townie or downtownie) get pregnant one after the other.

Out of the 7 pregnancies I got 3 sets of twins all girl/boy, which make it a 42% chance of twins in my game!  I am now afraid of having babies since I don't like twins...

I did started fresh a few times before Nightlife and most of the time I either had only 1 set of twins or none at all out of 9 pregnancies.

EDIT:  In case it was not clear this is after a fresh install of all 3 games with Nightlife patch install.

Mostly all my twins have happened when I've had first one parent try for a baby then the other.  Except for one double abduction that resulted in alien twins.  The only time it wasn't like that was when don Lothario's girlfriend moved in, and since they were both Romance Leos I rather meanly had her try for a baby!  Then in the morning they just woohood again.  But you're right, Ancient sim, usually the couples concerned don't have a lot of cash!  And the second crib and somewhere to put it just about cleans them out!

I've had 5 sets of twins born since I installed nightlife.  Comparing to the two sets of twins I had previously during the whole time I played original/uni.

It's probably just a random thing tho.  My romance sim Rebeka had twins (risky woohoo), then managed to get pregnant again just 5 days before coming elder (again risky woohoo) which also resulted in twins.

The first set of twins she had (boy/boy) are so identical I can't tell them apart at all.  All my other twin sims usually just resemble each other but I can never tell these two apart.

I think around a third of the natural-born sims in my game are twins. Either the first or second birth ever in my game was twins, and it happened on the first day I was playing Sims 2, and I was completely overwhelmed (at the time, I didn't even know about the twins, so it was startling). It's actually the main thing that made me realize that the people over on the BBS were total nutjobs -- they actually WANTED twins, and couldn't get them (and then said you could get them by having your sim eat cookies or walk four times around the house counter-clockwise, or whatever). I plan for most of my families to have just two children, but the second birth seems to almost always be twins just to spite me. I swear the game monitors my thoughts and spits out JUST what I don't want at the time.

When Castor and Allegra had twins, I moved Lilith in after she graduated to help look after them (just let her regain her lost youth with the elixir before i moved her out!)  It worked really well - she added three friends to her list (Castor was already a friend) and once she got to know the babies, she could do all the same things a relative could do, like potty training etc.

I had to restart my hoods and I made cassandra goth marry daneil dreamer and I got her pregant and the next night I got darren to stargaze and wouldnt u know it he got abducted, I didnt want him abducted at that time. He also was pregant. When cassandra gave birth it was to twins just what I didnt want because darren was pregant. The next day after darren gave birth to twins too well that was realy hard to raisse two sets of twins toddlers. I said thank god thats over when they all became children. I got cassandra pregant when the alien twins became children because cassandra wanted to graduate 3 children from college, and low and behold I got another set of twins. So the house is full I didnt want that many children. I have noticed that every time I start a new hoods from scracth that cassandra has twins.

Meek Monkey, to fulfil Graduate 3 children you only need two kids - somehow the LTW is fulfilled when the second graduates, as long as your sim is at the graduation parties.

Darren only has two lightning bolts for Cassandra, you know, but three for his dead wife Darleen, and if you resurrect her, HE soon forgets Cassandra (though she's like an octopus - her tentacles are everywhere!)

I'd like to share pics of my third generation born twins, Hunter and Alex.  Usually twins don't look so similiar when they turn adult (at least none of mine ever has).

Issy, do you have or use simpe? You might be better trying to clone your sims rather than passing playable sims with memories. That might corrupt other people's games. There are tutorials on cloning on the net I believe.

Once you have sims, you can put them on a tiny vacant lot and use the game itself to upload them to the sims exchange as a family, that'd probably be the easiest way.

Title: Re: Nightlife and Twins
Post by: Zeljka on 2005 November 13, 00:30:31
Wow, I'd say you really only need to upload one as they look identical to me.
Wouldn't it be easiest to use Sim Surgery in PE to clone one or both, then bodyshop to upload them? I've never uploaded anything, but I've cloned dozens in PE. I use Pe Classic. Open it up, choose Plugins\NeighbourhoodBrowser\Sim Surgery\Double click the Sim you want and choose Export. I usually name it ___SimName so I can easily find it.

I've had 3 sets of 'natural twins' the first was boy-girl, the other two, both in Email homes (yes, worst time ever) one set by abduction (again, worst time ever) other the regular way, but were at least all boys.
I've only had one time where I got identicals, it was a set of triplets, boy, girl, girl, the girls were identical. (too ugly to post)

I've never actually used Simpe, been meaning to download it but I'm just paranoid I'll ruin the game somehow.

I know I should just do it and learn it, as it seems inevitable in order to do certain things.

Thanks for suggestions and input witch and Zeljka :)

In my game they always run in spurts.  I'll go along for a long time with no twins, then all of a sudden two or three sets are born.  I think it just depends on the mood my game's in.  :P

Alien abductions have been really weird since I got NL, though.  In all the time between TS2's release and NL's release I had two natural alien abductions.  Since I got NL I've been playing basically two families and have had alien abductions in the first generation of both of them.  Now what was really weird, is that I had used a clone of the same house for both these families, although in different neighborhoods, and put the telescope in the exact same place on both porches.  I know it's sheer coincidence, but that's just too odd. LOL

Well first off, DON'T LISTEN TO PEOPLE AT THE BBS!

Now that we've gotten that out of the way ;) I can tell you I've been using it without problem pretty much since it first came out, which wasn't too long after the game came out.

It does let you backup your neighborhood, but you can always make a backup copy of it yourself before you try running SimPE, that way no matter what happens you'll have a copy you can restore. Just copy the following directory (depending upon your neighborhood)

My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Neighborhoods\N001 = Pleasantview
My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Neighborhoods\N002 = Strangetown
My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Neighborhoods\N003 = Veronaville
My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Neighborhoods\N004 = Your First Custom Neighborhood (if applicable)
My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Neighborhoods\N004 = Your Second Custom Neighborhood (if applicable)
etc.

If you're extra paranoid, you can always burn the files onto a CD in case the computer blows up. ;) Then even in the absolute worst case scenario you can do a total reinstall of the game and copy your neighborhood directory back to that location and you're game will be exactly like you left it when you backed up all your files.

Title: Re: Nightlife and Twins
Post by: Regina on 2005 November 13, 05:53:50
SimPE only really ever screwed up one of my neighborhoods one time and that was in the very, very early days, something like the very first or second release.  I'd tried tweaking a couple of infant sims' personalities and came up with some bizarre results.

It wasn't a problem, because I'd backed up the neighborhood beforehand, just in case.  I admit I don't back up often enough, but I do recommend it because in reality I think there's a much higher chance of the game developing its own problems than anything I can do with SimPE.  ;)

Yes, I backed up my game Motoki :)  I never go to the BBS, only went there once after I registered and that was about it really.  That place is downright scary!

Ok I managed to do as Zeljka said, took me awhile to find the sim surgery bit but after I selected the sim and chose "clone" I saved him to desktop.  Now he looks something like N005*numbers*.package.

Now my question is *drumroll* what do I do with it? I tried putting him into one of the other nieghbourhoods files but he still doesn't show up in bodyshop.

Title: Re: Nightlife and Twins
Post by: Regina on 2005 November 13, 06:43:33
He needs to be saved in the SavedSims folder which is in MyDocuments>EAGames>TheSims2>SavedSims

SimPE will try to save it there by default.  I generally name the file names myself instead of letting them go to numbers.  That way if I want to later delete a sim from there it's easy to find which one.  And although these sims show up fine in BodyShop you can't delete them from there.

Once it's in your SavedSims folder, you'll be able to find the sim in CAS under the, oh, what's it called--the place where you find pre-made sims!  LOL  Just make sure you have the correct gender selected, first. :)

Definately a bug.
My game crashed and when I returned, I quickly realized that none of the Sims who'd transitioned had 'stuck'.
The boy, who'd aged to child still appeared to be a child, but was still a toddler. Mildly amusing, I took him through one of each interaction (except change diaper, eww) before fixing him.

[/quote]  That is probably the reason,  it has probably backed up.  You usually have spurts of twins, since you haven't had them before, you got a spurt.  I have had the usual amount of twins.  For some reason,in my game,Titania always has a set of twins.  This is the third time playing her and she had twin girls.  The other times it was boys.  I had another couple have twins but no one else.  About the same if not less than usual.  Cassandra usually has twins but I had her adopt this time around.

I only ever had one set of twins pre-Nightlife, and I've not had any since Nightlife.  Not that I'm complaining, though.  I had two babies born at the same time (regular and alien), and it was a nightmare.  That demon alien child was horrible!

I probably should of kept my mouth shut.  I have had an ungodly amount of twins recently in Pleasantview. Six sets.  The Uni is gunna be crowded this generation.  Not only has my odds of having twins dumped on me but the oopsie odds in the Inteen have gone haywire.  Dina has had 4 children in sucession(no twins) after the third child I put her on birth control and she oopsied again.  The same with Nina--three children in sucession thankfully her birth control seems to be working.  Brandi has six kids good thing she is only one day from elderhood.  I actually named Dina's son the same name of Brandi's son cause there has been so many children in between that I forgot I used that name already.  Geeze--make it stop!!!!  Dina and Brandi's children are sooo cute.  Dina is married to Michael Bachelor and all her children seem to have Michael's face so far.  He is so cute himself--much better looking than Dina.  Brandi is married to a classic CAS sim that I always put in my games and he basically is the male version of her so all her children are beautiful.  It will be exciting to see all the new faces even though it is hard right now.

The only twins I've had since installing NL have been the pre-programmed ones (Circe Beaker & Dina Caliente), I've had no normal ones at all, not even in my new Pleasantview.  Before NL I had 4 sets in 40 births, which equates exactly to the 10%.  I don't know if Inteen affects things, because it increases the odds of twins as the Sim gets older and most of mine have one pregnancy very early on, so whether Inteen is actually reducing the odds when they're at the start of their reproductive years, I don't know.  Twins are more likely for older women, but also more likely for teens - don't think Inteen allows for that, though.  I don't mind twins, except with Family Sims, because I usually allow them an extra child as they always ask for it, so when the first birth is twins it's sort of wasted unless I let them have a third child, which I'm reluctant to do.

Yes, actully. I have had at least seven sets of twins since I bought NL. One of those twins belongs to me, and Nina Caliente. And it took me from September 2004 til March 2005(Uni's release) to get seven sets. So yes, I did notice that.

I don't have inteens or any mod/hack that would increase the chance of twins and I also had more than enough of them since I install Nightlife.  I am still waiting for an answer as if Maxis change the probability of having them in Nightlife or not.

So many people complaint they did not have some, I would not be surprise if they change the odds.

I've had one case of twins ever. None since NL, but I don't consider that weird given the scarce amount before. Is the chance really 10%?

On the other hand, all chance-based things like that seem very rare in my game (one alien abduction ever, even with TwoJeff's "increased abduction" hack and no accidental pregnancy ever from his "Casual Romance", even though the chance is set at 10% in EVERY house!).

I understand that this is how odds work - some people have a 10% chance happen a lot, others never do - but I still wonder about it occasionally.

EDIT: typo fixed. I'm sleepy.

It's pretty much exactly the same for me.  I had one set of twins pre-NL (which was only a boolprop solution to fulfill a LTW for a Legacy Sim), and one since with my now-defunct E-mail family.  I have the twins/trips/quads hack, but I only use it to make sure I can only get one baby (although, I've only ever used Original  :P).

Same here, two single pregnancies for Dina w/ Mortimer.   I don't think any of the premade Maxis characters are preprogramed for twins.  The only way they could be is if they were already pregnant at the beginning of the game since twins are determined at conception.

I have a lot of twins in my custom hood, both pre- and post-NL.  And my hood is all CAS sims.  No twin mods, they did it all on their own.  Half of my first gen couples had a set of twins, but they all had other children, too, so it still may be close to the 10% chance.  Sorry, I haven't done the math yet!

In fact, I have some second gen couples who are having their families and I dread when I see them have twins.  One toddler at a time is enough!  Even with smart milk, getting a pair of toddlers through all their skills and having them pick up whatever charisma they can gain is a handful.  I play each household one day at a time, and getting through one day with toddler twins is about all I can handle of them!

I played Pleasantview for a few months at first, and I think I only had one or two sets of twins there.  Played Strangetown a little, and out of three pregnancies, two resulted in twins.  So I was really surprised that my custom hood produced so many.  But I didn't start my hood until after I had Uni, so I don't know if the chances changed with that EP.  But I know I had a lot before NL, so I don't think the chances changed there unless they increased the odds for the pre-made Maxis hoods.  I haven't played the Maxis hoods in months.

I don't think that Dina or Circe are  pre-programmed for twins.  I have played the game over about seven times and I have never had them have twins.  I think probably what happens is the pregnancy modifier is probably random and we all know how random works in the Sims.  Dina and Circe probably have always gotten the modifier in your game but not in mine.  In my game it is ALWAYS Titiana and a lot of times it is Cassandra.  The others are pretty random.  Jm says that the pregnancy modifier increases the chance of odds, so when you are in SimPE look at them and see if they have a modifier.

My very first in-game birth was twins (custom neigbourhood).
Not really what I needed at the time.

I had been through all the hassle with an adopted baby already, but it was still hard.  That might be why I dislike twins so much.
After that I didn't have another set of twins for ages, but I did have multiple sims abducted by aliens (one of them on her wedding night).  My mother on the other hand had lots of twins but not a single abductions.  I had to download a hack for her to show her that it really could happen.

Way back in the beginning of TS2 I inadvertently d/l'd a twins hack with a house (I don't d/l houses anymore!).  When I got my 3rd set of twins in a row I went looking through my downloads folder.  I had one more set a while after that, bringing the total to 4 sets pre-NL.  Since NL I have had 5 sets of twins.  Since two of the sets were born to twins I figured that was what was going on, but I have them in other families also.

I wonder, though, if the law of averages is playing a role.  At least for me, I keep growing my 'hood, so obviously the chances of seeing more twin births will increase.  10% of 100 is larger than 10% of 20, ya know?

Dang!!  Jennifer Burton(Burb) just had twins--that makes 7 sets--she was suppose to be on birth control!!  I think something is making the birth control not work.  This is ridiculous.  I have 30 kids so far in this generation--not good.

In Pleasantview #1, Dina had one baby by Don, and Nina had twins by him, a boy and a girl.  In Strangetown, Circe only had one baby.  So I don't think it's preprogrammed either.  I know they staged things like the burglar, but I don't see how they could program something like that.  Only Brandi is set to have a male clone of herself due to Skip being unlinked.

Just to chime in also, I too had a glut of twins right after NL - five sets in a row, and none since. I'd taken out all my birth-affecting hacks because I wanted it to be more rare and more of a surprise, so it struck me as really odd.

The Risky Woohoo seems particularly risky lately also, but that could be because I'm using the InTeen version now whereas I was using either the 5% or 35% earlier (took that one out too once it got too common). It's almost like I'm -having- them Try, it works so well :P If it keeps up I'll have to see if there's some other way to get pregnancies without having to Try; I want surprises but I also don't want sooo many Sims clogging everything up.

I haven't noticed a strange influx of twins before having NL...I tend to get them often, but not to often, about one in twenty births, it seems. What I have been noticing lately is an influx of alien abductions- Pre NL I had none. In the last week, I had 3. I don't think I need any higher chances of abduction mods! One of the guys who got abducted happened to be half alien already  :P

After I started with a fresh new Pleasantview recently, there have been 4 births of which 1 twins. Conincidentally, it was Kaylynn who got the twins, just like in my previous version of Pleasantview, even though this time she doesn't have the token.

Weird! I must have had 20 births just since my new hood, many more than that since NL. I've still only ever had one Maxis generated set of twins - and that was before University.  :-\

Guess I better never take up gambling, the odds don't look good.

I just had Brandi give birth last night, and, what do you know, another set of twins on top of Kaylynn's twins the other day. And neither one of them has the "twins token", either.

I've suddenly had an influx of twins in my new Pleasantview since installing the second patch.  The last four pregnancies have been twins, including my own self Sim.  One of the sets is Dina Goth, who appears to be programmed to have them (this will be her second set).  Lucy Burb is also having them, although she didn't in my original Pleasantview.   None of them have the 'pregnancy token' (although it may disappear once they've conceived, I don't know).

Anyway, the oddest thing is this Chinese woman.  She was originally in Maple Valley and I moved the family to Pleasantview.  At the time, she was pregnant with twins, having had a single birth the first time (2 single pregnancies, as the first ended in a miscarriage).  She miscarried the twins and conceived again more or less straightaway, also with twins.  Whether this was a coincidence I don't know, but it seems odd that she would lose twins and conceive them again, as if she was meant to have them.  Bearing in mind that the second set was conceived in a different neighbourhood, I can't help wondering what causes it, something must be 'set' somewhere deep in the character file.

Dina Caliente/Goth in my game only had single births, but until I put her on InTeen birth control she got pregnant every time she woohooed.  And then her oldest daughter got pregnant the first time SHE woohooed, in a hot tub no less. I'm not sure Dina is pre-programmed for twins, but she sure seems to be preprogrammed to get pregnant easy.

Do any of the fathers have the token? I'm curious because, unless you have abductions or hacks, generally the men don't get pregnant, yet they have tokens... is that 'just in case!' they get pregnant, or does it affect the chance the same way? Because, of course, Sims' genetics are not quite realistic... :P

Before NL, I'd had one, maybe two sets of twins. In my current legacy family I have had two sets in as many generations. The founder's wife's second pregnancy resultedin twins, and her daughter's first pregnancy was also twins. I'm not terribly amused :P

I don't see how the pregnancy token can affect twins really, because I've had elder women suddenly acquire it after they've become elders, so either the game isn't checking when it's dishing it out, or it has nothing to do with twins.  As far as Dina being pre-programmed is concerned, I think maybe it could be different pre-made Sims with different games, because she had twins in my first Pleasantview as well (different father) and I know she has done for a lot of others, as has Circe Beaker.  Kaylynn is another who apparently has twins a lot, but she never has in mine.  It definitely seems to vary, but they all seem to have them in different games and that in itself doesn't seem very likely when you think about it.

By the way where in simpe do you find the tokens for twins I have not found them yet.

You may have a conflict or you may just be unlucky.  By default, InTeen's birth control is not failsafe.  As IRL, contraception isn't fail proof...there is a 2% chance your sim may still become pregnant while on birth control.  There is a flavor pack for the NL Edition of InTeen you can install that will give you 100% effective birth control.  Perhaps you should try the latter and see if it makes a difference for you.

Meek: There isn't a "twins token".  There is a data field in the pregnancy token itself which stores all the information about the pregnancy: including the id of the father, the length of the pregnancy, and the number of babies to be born.  Tokens are all stored along with memories in the Neighborhood Memory section of SimPE when you open a neighborhood file.

Perhaps this is what you were thinking of:  http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php?topic=3.msg417#msg417

There is a pregnancy modifier token that does affect twin chances, but it is not a factor that you can influence: Food does NOT affect the pregnancy modifier token, it simply appears on your sim for unknown reasons, possibly randomly, or in connection with being a twin. In any case, it is not an effect that you can influence through any specific known action.

The token shows up in the Sim's memories in SimPE.  You can see them by loading the neighborhood, and then clicking on Neighborhood/Memory.  Then find your sim in the list on the left, and click on their icon to show their memories.  But be VERY careful about deleting anything you don't understand, especially invisible tokens relating to aspiration and such.  But you can view what sims have the token.  You can't change the token to make twins more likely or anything.
