What's with the Buy catalog lag? It's horrid now.

THANKS THIS IS GREAT

The last time I had lag like this, I was playing with over 2GB of CC. Now it's lagging with less than 20 custom objects installed.

Basically, I go into Buy Mode, and even if I buy/sell nothing, clicking the Live Mode button causes about 10-30 seconds (YES, I timed it) of hourglass spinning.

What gives? My computer may be crap, but this didn't used to happen, and I have zero lag otherwise, even on huge beach lots crammed with stuff and overstuffed with 10+ sims. Switching from Build to Live Mode is the only thing that causes lag. I'm inclined to blame something other than the obvious things (RAM, hardware, etc.) that are blamed in cases of game lag.

Mine lags all the time now and my computer is far from crappy. Community lot entrance lag, phone book lag, witch arrival lag...etc, etc. Sigh.

Not sure what exactly defines a computer as crap or not crap, anyway. I just know I posted specs and Pescado said it was a pile of crap.

Also, it looks like a pile of crap. See desk thread in Retardo for proof.

I guess I'm lucky I only have catalog lag.

Still... annoying.

I think a lot of it is to do with the updating sim portrait thumbnails thing. I don't use the Dizzy crack. Maybe I should.

FWIW I don't have the lag you all do. I run all EPs and most SPs on a laptop. I don't have Dizzy's crack.

The one that stops the portrait thumbnails from updating.

Dizzy's portrait patch:

Patch 1 no-cd with Dizzy's portrait patch:
http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,13150.msg380470.html#msg380470

There's a no-EA-patch no-cd with Dizzy's portrait patch earlier in that same thread.

I haven't even seen a no-cd for AL patch 2 yet.

Dizzy's patch can only patch a specific no-cd exe.  So, we need access to a good no-cd, then (hopefully) Dizzy will work on the portrait patch for it, then (hopefully) Xiomberg will patch the no-cd exe and post it.

It's worth waiting for, though, since the portrait patch really helps speed up the game.

It's a hell of a lot less annoying, too. Even on my rig, the portrait changing was causing a noticeable slowdown. Dizzy's hack still changes the appearance when you set a new everyday outfit for the sim, too. But only then.

GameBurnWorld has a NoDVD.exe up now for patch #2 by vitality

Sims2ApartmentLifev1.16.0.194NoDVDFixedexeEng

Hopefully Dizzy will update his mod for this. When/if he does I will post up a link to the patched version.

Jelenedra yes, this is the NoDVD that has just had Dizzy's thumbnail hack added to it.

Here is the link to the patch2 NoDVD.exe combined with Dizzy's thumbnail hack V3b  AL_P2_D3b.rar

I'm actually noticing the opposite. There is less lag in my game. If EA made the game more compatible with dual core processors, that would explain why.
As for other people's thumbnail problem, I just don't see all the controversy over a tiny image.
