Dormies go home at 2am?
« on: 2006 October 08, 19:33:59 »
THANKS THIS IS GREAT

I looked around and didn't find anything to address this issue. I've just recently installed OFB and so I am still finding updates to fix problems.

Anyway, this is happening in a new dorm in a new neighborhood. I didn't have this problem in my old neighborhood.

I took a Maxis dorm and modified it to give it elevators instead of stairs. Then I moved in a newly created YA.

Every night at 2am, all of the dormies say goodbye, gotta go, it's getting late, etc. just like visitors normally do. Then they all leave the lot, but immediately return. Why is it doing this and how do I make it stop?

My game is patched and I updated all the MATY mods and checked the few remaining mods to see if they needed updated.

any hack about "auto answare @ the phone for dormies ?" i wonder why only my character have to reply on a dorm for 10 students ?

Yeah, I noticed that no one except my playable sims answer the phone anymore. And I guess you're right on the expresso too. I haven't seen anyone using it autonomously either lately.

I don't like the dormies leaving the lot because it refreshes them when they come back. It's defeating the whole reason for having nouniprotect. No one is peeing themselves or passing out anymore!

indeed that's pretty boring..
i think that should be 'cause dormies hack ... for some reason looks it stop to work.. and then dories feel bad they leave the lot... (hypothesis)
also they no more lock the door and that's strange too O_o
when they feel bad.. (like tired) they go in front of his room and then they go away.. by living the lot..  Shocked

/*edit 'cuase tests are on the run *
indeed... that's linked to the dormies needs..
keeped the controll of a dormie, lowered all need ...
and he leave immeditaly the loot...  (time: 18.00)

so, looks like the have a wreked version of the NoUniProtect ?

Dormies *never* answered the phone. They never get phonecalls anyway.

As for espresso, dormies (and visitors) will autonomously take it if your Sim made it, but not make it themselves. Squinge has a mod for this now.

I don't see why you would want dormies and visitors to answer the phone when the phone calls won't be for them anyway.

Personally I'd rather they left the coffee machine alone, so that my macro caffeinate doesn't drop out of the queue because some dormie picked that moment to juggle cups.

Why would you want dormies clogging the coffee machine, blocking your sims from using it?

With Uni only, the dormies would answer the phone and holler at you to come get it and hang it up waiting for you. Was nice if you were busy as it shut the phone up (either I just didn't have the upgraded phone hack or it wasn't out yet or something, don't remember) but the phone hack is better. I don't miss the dormies answering.

Max: Hacks aren't default behaviour. I have never had a single phone call for a dormie.

Hrm. I don't think I've ever had dormies answer the phone for you. But I do have the phonehack, and maybe this prevents them from doing so? I've had the phonehack since Uni and don't ever plan on parting with it. Tongue

As for the dormies saying that they will go home or what not, dormies are actually flagged as visitors. The dorm controller(s) populate a dorm and randomly assigns them dorm rooms. I'm just wondering, did you remove the myne doors or do something to them?

The game usually checks a few things to tell the difference between a dormie and a regular visitor. Usually it is sufficient to just check if the dormie has a dorm key matching any of the dorm (myne) doors on the lot. But it might also check if they are flagged a visitor and if their sim visitor attribute is set to stay the night.

Maybe something went screwy and these properties aren't set correctly? You can check this by turning on debug mode and forcing errors on the dormies that you have problems with.

Then go to the error log, and under the section Person Data look for 32, Person Type. This should = 1.
You can also look at the Attributes section and find 0, Visitor Type which should be = 3.

I would imagine that the visitor controller might be confused if these flags are set to some strange value or if your dorm controller is non-exisitent of farked. I'm pretty sure that the dorm controller checks at random times in the evening and does a push to send dormies to bed, especially by 2am. So, if it is not finding dormies, and the visitor controller is pushing them to leave the lot instead, then something is probably buggered. Another thing you can try is using the lot debugger and resetting all objects, both on-world and off-world, and hopefully that will fix it.

Try the following: enter the dorm in build mode, and use changeLotZoning residential. Save and exit. Then re-enter and use changeLotZoning dorm. Save and exit again.
It should re-set your lot as a dorm and hopefully re-initialize the dorm controller.

I think it is the elevators that causes that. Don't ask me why, but in the dorms I made with elevators, I had a constant stream of dormies at all times of the day and night leaving, then immediately reappearing at the portal, going to their dorm door as if to claim it, then randomly wandering around like normal.

Could the phone-answering dormies be related to the phone-answering ex-resident-now-visitor problem?

What happens in my game is that sims that were sent to college and then visit their original home (in a normal hood) are able to answer the downtown invitations made by phone.

If I let them accept the invitation, the taxi arrives and off they go, but I remain in control of the lot.
When by any chance one of the resident sims goes on an outing (or date, etc...) afterwards, they leave in the car or taxi, but I still remain on the lot.

Fortunately, saving and re-loading the lot seems to bring the resident sim back again.
