I was asked to supply the installation instructions for the Thumnail Hack and all versions of the hack. Here's what I have:

Something Apartment Life added which I had wanted gone was the constant hammering on thumbnails. Eventually came a way to fix it, although not the way I would have preferred: by modifying the exe file. This is always a last resort, but it is sometimes necessary (as in this instance).
This hack modifies your no-CD cracked exe file (TSBin\Sims2EP8.exe) so make sure you back it up first! If you don't use a no-CD crack, then perhaps it's about time to start. :)
Note: The upx instructions only apply to the noCD for patch1 (r187).
To use the thumb3 (for r187), download thumb-old and unpack the Sims2 executable with upx (see http://upx.sourceforge.net). Copy upx.exe to the TSBin folder and perform the following in a cmd box:
upx -d Sims2EP8.exe
Then double-click on thumb3.exe.

Many thanks for re-uploading thaT, Mootilda. However, Avast! tells me the file is infected by a trojan called Win32:Crypt-OAU. Anything you can do to help?

However, I think that Avast is going to complain no matter where you download them from. After all, these are unofficial patches that modify your game executables... that's exactly what viruses do.
I'm afraid that I can't guarantee that they are safe. I downloaded them from Dizzy before they disappeared from the internet and my anti-virus didn't complain at that time.
[Update:] If you'd like, I could upload just the source code and you could compile them yourself.

Does someone have already patched Sims2EP9.exe? Using the patch doesn't work with the ultimate collection because it has a different registry path than the normal game version. I was thinking about changing the paths in the code of the fix and compiling it, but given that I don't know the registry values of the normal game version (I don't know the difference between that and the ultimate collection values) I'd prefer to not take a risk of breaking something.
Edit: Nevermind, I did decide to edit the code and it worked.
