How do I break up an engagement without making them hate each other?

I've had this and generally, it involved aging them with InSim. Next time, use "Grow Up" not Set Age.. Adult. And take the sim to a mirror, slap a full face mask on him, click the check mark. Take him to the mirror again, remove mask, click check mark. He should be fine and nonblue.

I never even noticed it, and I thought I had clicked on everything the lot debugger had to offer. Must look again.
