How do I break up an engagement without making them hate each other?

I don't think you can get rid of the engagement through the game without breaking the love. But you can do it with simpe although right now i don't think its proper functional with bv.

I do have all the expansion packs. What about a hack that is BV compatible?

There's a thread in this very forum with links to the new SimPE. It's not fully final as there are some kinks that need to be ironed out, but it's handling sim editing just fine.
