Correct format for aliases in userstartup.cheat?
« on: 2007 May 17, 15:03:33 »
THANKS THIS IS GREAT

I can't seem to get my aliases to work now that I've got Seasons.  I forgot to backup the userstartup file and had to create a new one, and I guess I'm not getting the format right.  I've tried using examples found at MST2, and had no joy.  A known working example would be greatly appreciated.

I use this formatting, and it works just fine (even in Seasons, which I installed last weekend!)

edited to add the link. oops.

I've seen posts somewhere around here that say you have to put Seasons cheats in last, as anything after them in your userstartup.cheat won't work.

Try making a userstartup.cheat without the Seasons cheats, and see if that works.

Kyna: only if you don't have Seasons.

Userstartup.cheat is only parsed until it recognises something it does not know about, so if you add Seasons cheats followed by Pets cheats, but run Pets, it stops reading at the first Seasons one.

Format of aliases:

alias s "boolProp snapObjectsToGrid false" "Lets you move objects off the grid" ""

Start with alias, put in a string as the alias (s), quote the cheat you want it to be an alias for ("boolProp snapObjectsToGrid false"), and optionally add in a description which shows if you type help ("Lets you move objects off the grid"). Add an empty long desc at the end ("").

Thanks for advice, y'all.  I'll give it a try after work.  I'm so tired of typing in long unrememberable cheats.

Thanks to all for the advice and examples.  I still couldn't get the aliases to work even copying the examples, but I finally found the culprit.  You can't have "agesimscheat on" in your userstartup file, else nothing parses after that.  My format was fine, I was just being a dumbass.
