Custom Genetic Files Question...
« on: 2007 May 03, 18:47:04 »
THANKS THIS IS GREAT

I was wondering if there was a program available that would allow me to "fix" custom content...  Mostly skin and eyes...  to be genetically more correct.  Such as the way it is now, if  sim has a custom skin and breeds with a sim with non-custom skin, the custom skin always wins.  My daughter accidentally chose a sim from the bin that had a custom skin and she adores the family and so she bred them like rabbits...  The only deal is that I don't want the whole 'hood winding up with that darn skin.  I am really searching for a program that will allow me to possibly change the genetic coding for skins and eyes so that they will be less dominant...  and custom light eyes less dominant than custom dark eyes and so forth.

Thanks for the help.

It's perfectly possible, you just need to install SimPE.

The guide I used to do this myself is here, in tutorials Smiley

You can read the whole thread, or just download the text-file in that post.
It's easy as pie.

(So was finding it...Genetics + Changing in the search box!)

Should that mean anything?

Hum I didn't know SimPE did that...   Grin

Thanks, I will look up the material you two suggested and see if I can't fix these things.

In a shameless self plug I'd like to add that some custom files have already been made genetic - check out my sig for mine and Dewshine's efforts at Geneticising Enyala's work.

Thank you all for your help.  Does anyone know what happens in SimPe if you click the tick box to not use a skin...  will the sims that have the skin still be okay it just won't pass down?  The tutorial doesn't say and I can't find anything on the SimPe site saying what that tick box actually does.  Also, does it matter if your custom skins have the same genetic number as another skin or is that a no-no?   Huh

If by genetic number you mean the one you enter in the XML then it is fine to have as many as you want of that number/darkness rating.

As for the tick box thing - what tick box?

Unless you mean the one in Sim Surgery? Then my question becomes why are you in there? It's easier just to use the number of the skin and change it inside DNA
