Sims 3 crashes when loading a family.

THANKS THIS IS GREAT

Hi ya'll.

I wanted to reach out for a bit of help for a problem I think might be unique to my install.

I'll start the game up fine and dandy. I load up a neighborhood and I can go into Edit Town, browse the catalog, do some building, etc. Here's where the problem begins. When I load up a household, ANY household, the game crashes. No error pop up or anything, just instantly back on the desktop. I'll enter the household, see the Sims standing outside, and about 40 seconds later, crash. This happens no matter what I do. I've gone in, watch them stand there on the sidewalk for 30 or 40 seconds, no interactions or anything, and get thrown back to the desktop.

Now I currently have Late Night installed, but this problem actually occurred BEFORE I put Late Night in. I have awesome mod and its framework installed, I've cleared my caches, removed all my CC and mods, and got the latest version of AwesomeMod. I can also supply an error document the game crapped into the "My Documents" folder.

When you say latest version of AM which one are you referring to?  You need to be using the test version with the last patch and/or LN.

The wrong version of AM could well be the cause, did you try the game with AM to see what would happen?

My game runs fine, dropped all the mods from my game, applied the test AM and everything works as it should, no desktop crashes, nothing untoward at this time.

After doing a completely clean and fresh install, and spending HOURS patching everything up, I tried again and guess what? STILL NOT FIXED.

I'm going to try Claeric's suggestion, but this shit is getting retarded.

EDIT: Turns out it was one of those data execution prevention things. I really wish I had known that before I baleeted everything.

Mods can go a head and delete this thread.

THANKS THIS IS GREAT

I was having the same problem and I did a few things and it now works.  I started off with a total clean install.  I noticed my games were not all properly patched.  So I decided to start from scratch.  Loaded the game chose a household, loaded it, unpaused and CTD.

So I then did the DEP fix and added all of my Sims 3 exes to the list.  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc700810.aspx  The area that is important is "Enabling the DEP Exception List"

That for me fixed it.  I was able to play.  I readded my CC and hacks slowly.  Items that have altered scripts crashed my game so I removed them.  Example was Treeag's treasure box.

I then added back my saved sims, saves and Library.  All of a sudden crashing to desktop.  Finally I found it was my Library that was crashing me.  I did have a lot of houses, sims, and sims with houses in there.

I just totally deleted and can play just fine now.

I am not sure if that will help you, but maybe this will help someone.  I spent a lot of hours trying to figure it out.

The Crash Error Log tells me I need 3 - 4 GiB of memory. Now, the LN box says 1 GB, and I have 2.7 GB Ram. Why would the Crash Log tell me I need more? This happens with no mods/CC of any kind installed.

If you're on XP, you're fine.  On Vista or 7, you really should have another gig or so of RAM.
