Questions about The Sims 3 Launcher
« on: 2009 October 31, 14:43:42 »
THANKS THIS IS GREAT

Hello!

I have a couple of doubts about the Game Launcher. If someone could please erase my doubts, I'd be really happy.

The Game Launcher has different tabs. One reads "Downloads", one "Installed Content", and the rest of the tabs do not matter now, as they're pretty obvious.

In the "Downloads" tab, the sets and items you've just downloaded and installed show up in grey, and change to colored if you uninstall a part of that file, right?

My number one question is... Suppose I keep a backup copy of everything I download, in a folder somewhere in my hard drive, in case I regret deleting anything. Once I've got everything I wanted installed (Installed Content tab) can I delete everything from the "Downloads" tab??? No matter whether they are grey or colored??? Will it affect my game? It will help me keep things in order, so I really want to know if I understood this right.

Number two question. Suppose I have downloaded the "Ultralounge Set" from EA Store. I've installed it. Now, I go to the "Intalled Content" tab so I can delete some items that I tried in game and did not like. In the "Installed Content" tab I'll see the whole list of items in the set... patterns, objetcs, etc. Now, there is one thing I do not understand. Why is there an item called "Ultralounge complete set"Huh What does it mean? Why is it categorized as an object you could buy? And more important, what happens if I delete it? Will it delete the whole set? Because I do not want that, but I want to delete some items, and also to keep things organized.

Thank you.

You can redownload stuff from the store for free  if you already bought it.

I've never deleted anything from the downloads section as I figure that will delete it from the game itsownself. But I dunno. I'm just guessing.

But try deleting something and see if it deletes it from the game. If it does, you can always redownload it free.

Deleting .sims3packs from the Downloads folder after they have been installed will remove them from the Downloads tab in the launcher. It doesn't affect content already installed. I'm not sure if you can do this directly from the launcher itself or not, I've never tried it.

You can delete things from the Downloads tab, or directly from the folder. It does not affect content that is already installed.

The complete set is what you install via the launcher, when being installed it unpacks itself into those the individual items you see later, but it still lists itself (the whole pack) as an installed item.

If you delete the .sims3pack in Downloads, Absolutely Nothing Happens. This is not recommended, because it will make things disorderly, but you can do it. If you delete crappily named packages in DCBackup, Absolutely Nothing Happens. Doing this is recommended as these files are useless wastes of disk space that neither promote organization nor contain meaningful data. If you delete the dcdbX files in DCCache, you lose all your content you installed using the Launcher.

Translation from Pes's post: You can delete the .sims3pack files in DCBackup and in Downloads. They will still be found in the game and you have also deleted files that essentially only wastes space. Do not delete the dcdbX files in DCCache. This will cause the files to disappear from your game. Got it?

Yes, but I still don't know if Pescado meant the Downloads Tab of the Game Launcher or the Downloads Folder in My Documents. And, I don't know, but I guess that what really got me confused was that it really didn't have much to do with my original question, although it is a piece of useful information.

So... So far I know I can delete whatever I want from the Downloads Tab of the Game Launcher. And I can delete all the files in the DCBackup Folder in My Docs. But, I'm not sure if I can delete the files in the Downloads Folder in My Docs. And I still do not know if I can delete the Objects named "whatever full set" from the Installed Content Tab of the Game Launcher.

I'm still learning.  Tongue

Deleting .sims3packs from the Downloads folder after they have been installed will remove them from the Downloads tab in the launcher. It doesn't affect content already installed.

I really don't know how to state it any plainer. Deleting things from the Downloads folder will remove them from the Downloads tab in the launcher. This does not uninstall anything. Your original question was whether or not it was safe to remove things from this tab: JM was telling you how to do it.

Ok. Great. Well... I finally got it. Now  Tongue I still want to know if I can delete the Objects named "whatever full set" from the Installed Content Tab of the Game Launcher without affecting the game, and then I'm done with asking.  Grin

No, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't include double posting.

Sorry, but I didn't understand. I'm not a native English speaker. Sometimes I don't get the jokes or ironies.

Yeah, extract the package files from the simspacks and put them directly in the packages folder.
