Do you think this would work? A NEW community lot time idea.

THANKS THIS IS GREAT

This isn't directed at any users in particular, but I am asking the audience in general. Do you think this would work as a mod/fix for the community lot timing?

First things first, let me say that I KNOW Crammyboy has made a community lot time fix mod, and I think it was a very good idea that he did so.
But when I installed it, it wasn't 'fixing' it the way I had hoped ?
Let me elaborate.

I am thinking about a community lot time fix, that doesn't calculate the hours you were gone when you get home, and then you have to fast forward the time until your sim gets home.
You know what I'm talking about if you've had his mod installed.

Instead, let's say Sim A and Sim B leave together, on a date, or an outing or what have you.
They leave the house at 8:00pm. They are out at the nightclub until 2 am in the morning. When they arrive home, it is 2 am in the morning, in the game.

A different instance would be if Sim A left to the grocery store. If she leaves at 4 pm, and doesn't get home until about 8 pm, then there will need to be a daylight switch. It will be nighttime when she arrives home.

Here's some questions that may arise:

I've heard people discussing this, and they're saying, 'Well, if those sims are gone, with time passage what will the other sims have been doing? There is no way to program what they are doing.'

My answer would be, the sims should be paused in the spots they were in before Sim A had left (and continuing doing what they were doing as soon as the sim gets home), just like if there were no time passage, as by the games default.

Please do so much as ponder this idea. I am wanting to know if it could possibly be done.
Rude responses will be ignored. This is just an IDEA, not a request. And since crammyboy's project has been a bit abandoned since FT, I thought I'd give it a go at reviving the idea.

Thank you all for your time.  Smiley

Well, I'm not convinced it would work in play.  Say you sent off someone to work in their store after the kids have gone off to school and their partner has gone to work.  They work all day, stay open late then have to clean up and restock and you both get home at, say 10pm.  What then?  The kids still at school?  And when are they supposed to do their homework for tomorrow?  The problem would be that the sims left at home would get robbed of hours out of their day.

My solution to this, BTW, is to put the shop owner to bed when we get back to the home lot and leave them there (they are usually tired out anyway) until later in the day when they might reasonably be expected to have returned home.  Works for me anyway.  I can understand the frustration with this aspect of the game, especially when you go out for short trips or take everyone to the beach for the day and arrive home at 10am again - but then in that situation, Crammyboy's fix works just fine - or if you don't (or can't) use it (I don't), you can use the sethour cheat.  Get home at 8pm according to the time on the community lot, sethour 20 when you get back - simple.

You're right, I understand what you're saying. What would happen is the kids would get home from school as soon as the returning sim gets home. Because nothing would resume until you are back in the lot. You're right about getting robbed from the hours of the day, but wouldn't my idea be convenient if it were the whole family going out and returning? They would return later in the day, and it will be later in the day in the game.
Crammyboys hack is really good, and there's no one i wouldn't recommend it to. That is the alternative way of fixing the problem, though. And with his hack, my sims vacations make a lot more sense time-wise. I'm sure you understand people have their different preferences about how this should work, though. Not everyone has to agree with Crammyboy. I think that if there were two fixes like this out there for the community, it would be better because they would have a choice.
Anyways, thank you for your response.
Let the discussion continue! Smiley

I use Crammyboy's mod, so I understand it is a bit annoying to fast forward time until the first person gets home. (Although I sometimes enjoy seeing what happens at the empty house, and there is always the thrill of fire...) This need not give rise to an alternative solution, though; why not 'fix' the existing hack so that it just jumps in time to when the first sim arrives home. So if the whole family is away on the beach, the time they return is the same time when they left the beach - but if a family member comes home earlier from somewhere else, time resumes from his/her arrival. If would definitely like to see support for vacations as well - maybe one day should go by while they are away. It cannot be as many days as the vacation - an infant should not grow up to toddler while the rest of the family spends a few days on a tropical island Smiley

It's a bit complicated to think about. I just wanted people to voice their opinions on it.
When you talk about 'fixing' the hack.. well, I'm very clueless when it comes to hacking or modding. I was hoping that somebody with higher skills than me could attempt the fix. You're right, Crammyboys hack is beneficial because it gives us something to work off of. I want to really brainstorm the idea though and look at how we could get it to work.

Do you have any ideas?

What happpens currently when sims go on vacation? My sims never get vacations.

I am using Crammyboy's hack, so I know it can be frustrating to watch the empty house for hours, waiting for the family to come home. I love the way it works in other ways, though. It's okay if someone has been left behind. I enjoy concentrating on fewer sims for a while.

To ease the situation where one sim is returning from a comm lot, while others have been off-lot at school or work, you could use an age check - the earliest arrival of a sim aged teen or above would start the clock.

That would avoid the social worker grabbing kids after school. Toddlers might then age before their parents get home, but at least it wouldn't be the nanny enjoying the party.
