Anyone having trouble running game w/ Riverview in it?
THANKS THIS IS GREAT

I've been running the latest (as of yesterday afternoon) version of Awesomemod with no problems.

Until, that is, I downloaded and installed Riverview. Each time I tried to load the game with Riverview in the Downloads folder, the game would get to the "Online interactions not rated" warning on the launch screen and then crash to the desktop. I tried pulling out the caches a few times and still got the same problem.

I also tried removing a bunch of these xcpt... files that seem to generate each time I start the game, but that didn't prevent the crash on startup I was having.

Finally, I realized Riverview was the only change since the game ran fine, so I dragged it outta the Downloads folder and the game started up just fine and has run fine since. I haven't tried restarting since then.

I've been using the same copy of framework since Thursday. I've heard mention of a new version. Is there one and do you think I need it?

Is this problem with Riverview and Awesomemod or do you think it's something I've done wrong? Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

Did your run Riverview through the Recompressor?  I'm not sure what happens if you don't, but probably something unawesome.

No I have not. I'll give that a shot. Thanks for that suggestion.

Yes, that seems to have worked.

The trouble I was having was I initially was dragging the downloaded file from the Download folder over the recompresor.

I eventually tried installing the file from The Sims 3 launcher, then dragging the resulting .world file from the Installed Worlds folder into the compressor. A black command prompt box opened, which led me back online to try to find out what the heck to do. While I was searching this board, the box disappeared and I noticed that .world file was now slightly smaller. So I tried launching the game again and it opened fine, Riverview was available in the Start New Game menu and it opened fine. Have not tried to play yet but I'm pretty confident it'll be fine. Thanks again.

Purely for information gathering purposes, I would like to add that I got mine not crash on load screen only after deleting all the *cache files and adding the enablescripterror package. I'm working on Vista 64-bit. I loaded many many times, not deleting and deleting *cache files and it always crashed on load screen, until I added the enablescripterror.package.

Well, the AwesomeMod was awesome (outside of my not liking the nerf to Steel Bladder) for a lot of simming, but then the debugger it generated an error report, and I hit reset after it was logged, and that left a sim stuck unable to move, interact, be interacted with, etc..  It will cue those actions up, but never finish them.

Here's the text document (there are also two different formats as well):  I just want to un-stick the sim....

Why do you noobs keep littering this thread with the exception files? They are of no help because windows generated them, not the game.

Hell.  I've used every version of the awesomemod, and they've all worked fine for me until this latest one.  Now I'm getting crashing to desktop during loading.  I took the awesomemod out and restarted the game, and the game worked fine without it.  I deleted the caches and put it back in, and TS3 crashed during loading again.  I know I have it installed correctly, because I've used the umpteen other ones with no problem.

I'll continue working on it, but I wanted to add my data point to the information pool.

What I've had to do between each version is:
Remove old version.
Clear caches
Start up vanilla game, load family, and save.  Starting up the game and exiting without saving accomplishes nothing (for me.)  The save is crucial.
Exit game.
Put in new version of mod.
Play crash-free until next version of mod.

It won't work for everyone, but if it works for me, it's bound to work for someone, somewhere.

Did your run Riverview through the Recompressor?

Yes, that seems to have worked.
... I tried launching the game again and it opened fine, Riverview was available in the Start New Game menu and it opened fine. Have not tried to play yet but I'm pretty confident it'll be fine. Thanks again.

Well, it wasn't fine fine. I was able to play, then saved and quit, and the game crashed on the launch screen when I tried to restart it later.
I couldn't remember if I'd been deleting the script cache file everytime I started the game, so I removed it and CTDed on launch again. Next time I went in and took out all four cache files and those xcpt... files that the game generates now (have they always been there, or is that new since I installed riverview?) and the game started up fine.

I'm a computer user, so I have no idea what I'm talking about, but I think my problems with Riverview and Awesomemod (or my inept installation) are related to those xcpt... files. I don't remember even seeing them before I installed Riverview and I certianly didn't delete them during my past successful run with Awesomemod. Two such files get generated each time I launch -- or try to launch -- the game now, and they don't overwrite themselves as I had eight of them stacked up in there during my latest round of monkeying with things.

As always, I'd appreciate an suggestions, explanations or input. Thanks in advance.

For me awesomemod is more awesome than buggy  Grin but still buggy.

The same issue with losing sound in CAS. It wroks the same way like I have used Alt-Tab to switch away  - the same fade out effect. But the sound never goes back when I exit CAS. Only restart helps. It seems , Sim 3 somhow thinks that I have made the game window inactive by alt-tabbing. So it frees DirectSound buffer to other applications or something like that...

Thanks for that hint about Cache.package files - if I do not delete them, I cannot start the game - crash while loading and bunch of crash dump files with "bad memory written" or smth. like that.

Curious - what about that d3dx9_31.dll file in the framework? Without it the game gets stuck at the very beginning. Why are you overriding Direct3D, is it some hack again?  Smiley

Anyway - great mod, thanks.

For people still having problems with Sims 3 crashing at the loading screens, or people who have to delete their cache before every play:

I have invented a 'solution', just go download the linked file. It is an application that will delete your cache files and start The Sims 3 (or the Launcher if you so choose). Works with Windows 95 through Windows 7.

I don't own a Mac so Idunno how they work. Besides, you can all burn if you use Macs  ;;P

This is if nothing else a temporary solution, but it's worked so far very well for me, hope you guys get some good use out of it.

I think if it crashes after play has commenced, this is more likely an overheating or power problem (or possibly some other hardware issue), and not specifically associated with the mod.

No Smiley  I play for hours without the hack, and never once had a crash.

Oh! OK. Thanks for that tip (and helping me level up a little). I just looked in the TS3 folder and there aren't any in there from my last round of playing.

That leaves me guessing I do need to remove all four cache files, not just the script on. That only bothers me because His Excellency's  instructions are that we only need removed the script cache file, which leads me to think I've done something wrong that will come back to haunt me later.  But that's nothing new. Ba haha ha haha!

Thanks agian.

[ADDED: I guess another concern is I previously only had to remove the script cache file with the initial installation of a vesion of Awesomemod, and lately I've had to do it each time I launch the game. Someone below has added a link to a file that will do that for me, which I may gratefully have to fall back on, but it still concerns me that something I've done wrong is forcing me to do this.]

004df15b => DasmX86Dll.dll not found.

Clue! Clue!

Quoting someone from somewhere:

Quote
Dasmx86dll.dll Not Found error message
You probably won't find the dll on your computer, and that is okay because:
Game crashes > Throws error > looks for dsamx86 to run debugger > can't find it > writes report.
The problem isn't that the DLL isn't there, the problem is that the game is crashing and by some accident of left over code it tries to run a debugger, a tool used by developers to help identify problems, instead of giving you a nice, clear cut error message.

That was for Spore. And now the same for Sims 3. So no clue for the reason of crashes, sorry.

Obviously playing with CIL scripts is not safe so the problems are guaranteed.. for (awe)some time Cheesy Reverse engineering, that's the name of the game. Why, oh, why EA could not give us some bits of open source to play with so we could create our community game Sims X-Generation (just dreaming).

I've found that you can actually delete everything but the folders in My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3.  All the stuff you need regenerates.

Newest version crashes my game like crazy. Like a 10% chance it'll work.

Previous version did not crash my game after the 1st loading crash. Removed all cache files, still didn't run properly.

If EA coded their game properly it wouldn't crash. But still, newest version makes my game crash on loading. Many times.

Ditto. I haven't tried disabling anything new in the config file yet but with all but TS2 style aging and expert mode enabled, my game will not load with the newest (carpool) version.

Newest version making my game crash as well.  Removed all cache files and still CTD at startup screen.  This is making me very sad because like a good sheeple I have not saved older awesomemods....  A pox on EA for their crummy coding!
