One question though: why is the d3dx9_31.dll only 73.5 kb when the same dll in my windows\system32 is 2.30 mb?  Is there a chance that there is a conflict?
No, this is deliberate.

New wild-assed theory: Try nuking the contents of \Windows\Prefetch.

I'm so sorry for all my confusion, I'm very technologically challenged. When I click on Computer-->The Sims 3, it brings me to the files that are on my disc. Are you saying I need to burn the files to the disc? When I try pasting the files there that's the only option I get.

No no no, you want C:/Program Files/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Mods/Packages.

If you do not see Mods/Packages, you do not have framework, which you need. It is also in the main download thread.

I got a couple script errors. They seemed to happen completely at random and had no real negative effect, but I figured I'd attach them so you could take a gander. One of these happened simply by trying to have a toddler crawl around (on a neighbor's lot) one of them happened while the sim was at work, I think.

I apparently have an installation that doesn't crash; I wonder if, being on a Mac, the windows configuration really matters in this issue. The content of the game's windows folder is minimal and standardized for the porting in Wine, so it could probably be useful if I post its content.

Code:

Thanks for all the help, it's now working but the game is crashing at 1am (as I see others have reported). So as someone suggested I downloaded the modified configuration to prevent this. Just wondering, do I need to still keep in the awesome.package file? Or just the aweconf.package?

Mine finally crashed at 1 am again, even with the modified config file. I am going to try adding the scripterror file again and see if that helps.

There's however a weird issue about the pathfinding, I guess. Apparently, with SmarterChairFinder enabled, the pathfinding seems worse. I tested it in a family of 8 sims: 4 adults going to work at 8 and 9 am, 1 teen and 1 child going to school at 8 as well. They are barely able to not missing the carpool/bus; one of the adults, which is also workaholic, pops a negative moodlet about missing work, before being able to run for the carpool.
They stand idling behind their beds for no apparent reason for an hour and more, with their action icon already active about going to work. I assume they're desperately calculating the path, and they clash together; they have very long pauses every time they have to choose a path (e.g. when they reach the bottom of the stairs, and they should find the door).
Reconfiguring with the SmarterChairFinder disabled solved the issue.
I don't really think these are related issues. The game itself seems to display enough wiggyness on its own, and the chairfinder has no actual effect on pathfinding.

None of the options people are toggling on or off at random crash on their own, the crashes appear to simply be random things that happen only to other people, and they vanish or appear apparently at random. There is a bug that is being tracked down in the next version, which may or may not be related.

New randomass theory on crashing: another random thing which I have linked to crashing is the FILE PERMISSIONS. Check to make sure that the file permissions on your install, including your mods and userdirectory, are not set to weird shit, under properties -> security -> advanced.

No strange settings found there, also prefetch clearing had no effect that I can see.

I'm having some luck getting past 1:00am by saving and loading just after midnight, whereas if I play through several hours it will die every time (at 1:00am).

On the up-side, no more loading-screen crashes with the latest version. Smiley

Ok.

I reinstalled the game. Redownloaded some things including the houses previously downloaded.

Tried taking things out putting them in again and the adding things etc. This does not have appeared to have worked it is now 3am, where I am anyway, so am thinking I will try reinstalling with no mods no custom content etc and see if it still crashes, if it does then it is more than likely my graphics card that is buggered! lol. Will let you know what has happened.

I am just wondering if this could be related to having downloaded houses? As I remember you got all kinds of crap when you downloaded house and used the standard installer with TS2. Could a similar thing be happening here? I have no idea how things get installed with this thing you see, so is that possible maybe?

I doubt it. I have downloaded houses, textures and Sims from different sites and I still have not experienced ANY crashes with the Awesomeware in place.

Could this be Vista related? My computer runs on XP and apparently Marhis has no problems with a Mac.

Sorry, but yes it does. Actually, mine got to about 1:14 AM or so before it diskappeared.
Also, wanted to ask if the xcpt<MACHINENAME> bla bla.txt files would be of any use; it seems to contain a lot of info.

o I have the enablescripterror.package in.
o Deleted all caches.
o File permissions look fine.
o CAS made sim in Riverview.

Though, I'm not sure if that helps in pin-pointing anything, I am also on a Mac and having no awesome-related issues.

Just noticed the game crash contributed to one factor: 1 AM.

I downloaded the most recent version and installed it. I loaded up the game with no problems and went into my family's household. Watched the Sim do some things until the clock turned to 1 AM. Then the game crashed.

This version does seem to have the same crash issue.

So the issue I had in another thread was more or less related to what I saw here. I didn't realize that it was -this- 1 AM issue because the crashes were consistent with the fact the game approached 1 AM without fail. And consistent with the current version as well.

I have Vista with no crash issues. I just played with Awesome mod in my game for 9hrs and just for checks, started and restarted the game 7 times with no crashes. IDK. *shrugs shoulders*

Now I am lusting a mod that enable garden plants to be put in the household inventory. I hate moving a family, leaving the hard work put into a garden for some other sim to enjoy.

EDIT: Forgot to add, I do have the no intro, no Zzzs, faster homework, numerous patterns and HP's skin replacement. Store stuff from here and downloaded Riverview from TS3 site.

New version crashes frequently for me.  No version before today did.  I am using the config package and I've tried mixing and matching all of the crap you've suggested.  Nothing seems to help.

Not sure if any of this is relevant, but I'm playing the digital download version from EADM, using nointro.package, a ton of patterns, and skin replacements.  Windoze Vista.  Tried everything that's been suggested and more.

I had two crashes that were blue screens and rebooted my entire computer, but I don't think they are related to the hack.  These seem to be some issue with my Riverview, probably some corrupted data somewhere.

1 AM crash. Newest version of files. Simple one second it's there, next second it's not crash.
Other cc: basically all the texture files from MTS2, no censor hack
System: XP, SP 3. 4 GB RAM, ATI Sapphire Radeon x1950Pro, 3.00Ghz Pentium D

Crash is inconsistent. I played through five days with no crash, then had a crash at 1 AM Thursday. Have XP, used the awesomemod tool to enable all options. Did, however, have storymode toggled on for current neighborhood (from game options).

Heh!

Someone mentioned playing Riverview when the crash happened, and an idea struck me. I decided to create a new Sim and play her in Sunset Valley. Watched her do Sim stuff until the game approached 1 AM. The game did crash to the desktop.

So, the neighborhoods had nothing to do with the game crashes at 1 AM.

Turning aging and story progression off stopped the 1 am CTD for me.  I haven't tried it with one or the other on, to know which, if either, was causing the crash.  Could be coincidental. Huh

The 0100 crash is unrelated to this thread, that is a different issue, so don't post about that here. However, there is a new version that should stop that.

So purge the caches every time.

If your programs require things to be purged write code to auto purge so it works seamlessly. Requiring end users to fiddle every time you want to play is annoying.

Then don't use the hack.

My embarrassing update now is that i seem to have blown part of my graphics card I can still play world of warcraft, but not Age of Conan which has a similar spec as Sims 3. So I am going to replace it on my way.

Discovered this after just installing Sims 3 again and then realising about a couple of minutes of game play it still shut down. Oh well. Live and learn.

Thanks to the people who set my mind at ease about downloading houses etc! LOL. But TS2 made me paranoid about that!

Is it possible to switch to the newer version, and if everything fucks up. I can switch back to the older version I'm using at the moment? If yes, then where are those nasty .caches.
(Or is it the ~950 MB file named Sunset Valley.objectCache?)
