Anti Aliasing issues?
« on: 2008 December 30, 12:35:15 »
THANKS THIS IS GREAT

How do you make the screen smooth out? I have tried changing resolution, heightening graphics settings, and lowering graphics settings. Nothing seems to work. There is no anti aliasing slider that I can see.

I am running Windows XP Home sp2 on an Intel based Mac
Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.16GHz,
0.98GB of RAM,
ATI Radeon X1600 video card

0.98GB of RAM,

You have less than one gig of RAM? You need MOAR RAMZ. Seriously, is cheap and will increase performance like you wouldn't believe.

The option in TS2 is called "smooth edges" I believe, and it is a slider.

My bad, didn't notice what section this was in. I don't know about Spore, but you still need MOAR RAMZ.

You could try adjusting the anti-aliasing in the ATI Catalyst control panel.

I think stupidParrot's problem may lie elsewhere, actually. My terribly obsolete computer can hold a max of 1gig of RAM, which is what I have; I have no antialiasing problems - everything looks "smooth", as the Parrot calls it. My processor also operates on a single core, Pentium 4, 1.79GHz. nVidia GeForce FX 5500 for graphics card. As I am not having this problem, I must conclude that Pescado is right on the ball, here. Of course, with that line of attack, the Parrot may have to compensate for other effects, such as a blurring or spinning appearance.

Yes, Parrot is on a mac, so there is no ATI Catalyst panel thingy.  I didn't install Spore on my mac, but TS2 for OS X doesn't have anti-aliasing either.

Thing is, due to my out of date OS on Mac, I am running it on my PC partition. Anti-Aliasing works fine in the sims (also on the partition) but in spore there is no option. Should there be one?

No, Spore doesn't have an anti-aliasing option.

Then how do you get the edges to smooth out? Heighten the resolution, or what?

I usually ran it at the highest resolution my system could support, or the one below it -- never had much of a problem with the edges.

My apologies to you.
Did you try searching the ATI site for info on that Catalyst thingie?  It could very well be that Spore is too demanding on your GPU for anti-aliasing, though.
