THANKS THIS IS GREAT

I was wondering, is there a way to dig out a section of ground without actually lowering the entire area? For instance, if I have a basement whose roof is lower than the outside ground, can I extend that outside the walls of the house without making all of the ground outside the house lower to the level of the basement? As if I were digging a cave into the side of the basement.

Reasonably sure you can't, but thought I'd ask just in case I missed something.

If you build your foundation as an open square, not a solid block, then when you dig out the middle area, it doesn't make the outside sink.  If you want to make the basement lower than the normal ceiling height, I imagine making the open square two squares thick instead of one might work.

When you do it this way, you just have to be careful when you put your floortiles down that they all go at the right height.
