1  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Awesomod discussion/questions/helpful tips thread on: 2010 January 27, 18:26:21
Is there any way to get around the awesomemod expiration date? I have the sims 3 installed on a computer w/out Internet access, in a detached building where I can't easily access an online computer. I have awesomemod installed as a matter of course, but since it's a pain in the ass to keep updating my awesomemod via flash drive, and since I only play my game once a week anyway, I really don't want to keep re-downloading a new version every 2 weeks. Is there any way to circumvent this expiration business?
2  Awesomeware / Armoire of Invincibility / Re: TOOL: TS3 Recompressor on: 2010 January 18, 18:04:00
If you're looking to cut down save time, just do the files in the The Sims 3>Saves folder (the files end with .sims3).  I'm not sure what would happen if you tried it on the SavedSims folder... probably nothing, but I've never tried it so I can't say for sure either way.

I don't have any .sims3 files in my saves folder. I only have .sims3.backup and .sims3.legacy files, and a folder named mycurrentstoryline.sims3, and when I open it up all I have are neighborhood files and a few other random files, but no .sims3 file.

So what do I recompress if I want to de-bloat? The backup files? The legacy files? I've tried running the command line on the folder but that didn't work at all, so I'm guessing its not that?
3  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Sim-painted portraits are a red, grainy mess on: 2009 June 21, 15:34:47
It's a "feature". The game puts the portraits and still-lifes thru a filter so they'll look like paintings as opposed to a screenshot, and it actually works nicely with well-lighted objects - I ended up w/ a painting w/ a nice Edward Hopper vibe - but it's god-awful for portraits and usually makes the subject sim look like a blotchy orange mess. It'd be awesome if there were a way to turn off the filtering just for portraits.
4  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Objects I miss on: 2009 June 10, 23:50:17
It's not an object, but I miss the old romance animations. The TS3 "kiss" animation is essentially a tiny peck, and the "make out" animation is just a series of pecks that lasts for about 15 seconds. The TS2 animations were over the top but at least they conveyed emotion. And there were some really sweet animations like the slow dance, etc. Romance in the TS3 is so dry and boring. I used to love pairing sims up in TS2 but that's lost its appeal in TS3.

I also miss the cuteness of toddlers in TS2. The TS3 ones are dead eyed and creepy, and although it used to annoy the hell out of me when TS2 toddlers wandered everywhere I find it unsettling how TS3 toddlers can stay in one spot for hours and not go anywhere.

Also, not having a piano, or at least a violin, is stupid since classical musicians are highly unlikely to have gotten their start playing on a guitar. And the lack of any classical instruments is doubly stupid given that the game actually has a classical music career branch.

Couple of Painting Questions:
I have had a wish sitting in the queue for a while now "Paint something over $5,000", I have all the traits and lifetime rewards to help in the venture and all motives high, but for the life of me, cannot make anything over +/-$4,200 <$5,000. Also, the value seems to decrease if I paint one after another. (And this is the same with books) :S

Does anyone know of an easy way to do this, or is it just a matter of painting something 4,200+ and waiting for it to appreciate in value? (Would EA be this smart?)
Does the price of paintings increase when the artist dies?

You can just keep painting.  I may have had to do 3 or 4 masterpiece larges before I had one that happened to be >$5k.
I do not believe books nor paintings necessarily decrease for consecutive completions.  (If you're human, you may be the type of creature that is more likely to notice / remember negative results.)

I have no advise on appreciation.

It also helps if you change up the painting size. There was a period where I needed money for my sim and I kept painting Large paintings one after the other. After a while, each consecutive painting started decreasing in value. Then, when I wasn't looking the game queued up my sim to paint a small painting. Lo and behold, that one actually jumped up in price and almost matched my highest previous haul for a painting. Since then I've been switching up the painting sizes and my paintings have just been increasing in value.
6  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Might be helpfull for people with overheating issues. Frame rate limiter on: 2009 June 02, 18:08:15
Nevermind. Somehow my comp picked up a virus between yesterday + today. A virus scan fixed the issue.
7  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How to change lot class? on: 2008 December 28, 23:17:19
I did that I think, but the problem is that when I saved I dont think the changes stuck...
8  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / How to change lot class? on: 2008 December 28, 20:37:06
I have a new apartment that I created that's meant to be super high end and filled with rich sims, but its lot class is set to low. I used the changelotclassification cheat to make it a high end lot, but the changes didn't stick, and when I tried to change lot class using the lot adjuster, none of my apartments showed up on the list of lots. So, is there a way to change lot class using SimPE? I searched and searched and all I could find was allusions to changing it in SimPE, but nothing to show you how.
9  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Fubared Apartments on: 2008 December 24, 17:03:02
That still doesn't quite solve how I would fix the apartment lot itself. Do I have to download a buyable apartment mailbox? Would that work? I'm afraid to delete the community phone b/c I'm afraid it'll permanently f up the lot. But would that help things? So confused!
10  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Fubared Apartments on: 2008 December 24, 16:53:14
Okay, so I just finished an apartment by converting one of V1ND1CARE's community lots, the one that looks like a classic french building. I typed in "changelotzoning apartmentbase" and saved and exited, and from the neighborhood screen it showed as an apartment building. I guess I should have doubled checked that the apartment was in order, but oops. So I moved a family in, and they show as living in an apartment there in the neighborhood screen. But when I enter the lot, there's still just a community phone booth and trash can, and live mode is greyed out. I don't want to move them out b/c that might mean losing the furnishing, and I spent a long-ass time furnishing that giant place. So, is there a way to fix this and turn the lot into a proper, working apartment lot?
11  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Issue with Default Easel Paintings Replacements on: 2008 June 24, 02:08:29
If you use raw32 instead, you won't have any quality loss.

Now you tell us. Tongue I had a set of skintones that I wanted to edit but no matter what I did I still got compression artifacts, so in the end I just gave up.
12  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Anyone take the lastest survey on the Sims 2 web page? on: 2008 June 22, 17:12:23
I refuse to buy SPs on principle. I've never even ARRed them b/c the idea of them disgusted me. It was a telling sign of what was to come. And I guess I was right.

Ah. I knew I was missing something. Thanks!  Grin
14  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Unchangeable Eyes? on: 2008 June 19, 20:24:39
I currently have a family of sims that for some inexplicable reason is stuck with fugly brown Maxis eyes, no matter what I do. I recently put in a great set of default eyes and skintones and the changes have shown up on every other sim with Maxis genetics. But it just won't show up on this family. I made them all in CAS way back when. Two of them originally had green eyes (before adding new defaults).

I've tried changing their eyes with SimSurgery, and then manually editing the simDNA of the sims. Each time, the changes will show up, but all the makeup on the sims will have disappeared and their eyebrows will have turned blonde. Then, when I direct them to change appearance, they revert back to their original makeup and eyebrows, but with fugly Maxis eyes again. Any ideas on what's going on?

I'd nuke this family but I've actually played them quite a lot so they've intermarried into a lot of my important families, and I really don't want to let them go.

Edit: The problem is also showing up on another sim I made in CAS around the same time. His daughter, who was born ingame, also has the same issue. The mother, Brandi Broke, is showing the new defaults just fine. Maybe it's just cuz these particular sims are really really old. (I've been playing them sporadically since Uni.) Does anyone know if this issue is resolvable? I rather like these sims and I don't want to have to kill them all...
15  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Mac ISO? on: 2008 March 15, 17:45:17
Mac games and PC games are two different things. Therefore, if all her games are PC she wouldn't be able to play them on her mac unless she ran the Windows platform using a program like BootCamp.
16  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / What's causing this error? on: 2007 November 24, 23:44:11
I have two sims that can't interact with each other at all. Every time I click one while controlling the other I get the reset jump. I've attached an error log, if someone could tell me what might be causing it.
17  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Seasons of Discrimination on: 2007 August 22, 16:20:28
I think it's pretty realistic. I live in NY and I remember every time there was particularly heavy snowfall having to check the news for the school closing lists, to see which schools were closed and which weren't. Unfortunately for me I went to HS in Manhattan, which meant that unless it was city-infrastructure-debilitating snowfall I had to go to school pretty much all the time. The kids in the suburbs usually got snow days off, the lucky bastards.

So if you just imagine the private school being in a posh Uptown neighborhood, and the public school in suburbia, it makes sense to have different snow days.
18  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Family Genetics With Custom Skins on: 2007 August 22, 03:23:33
You know, there's a mod on MTS2 that allows for tatoo overlays. It stays on even when sims are naked and b/c it's separate from the skin it doesn't get passed down. Sounds like it's what you're looking for.
19  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: August "More Awful Than You": Most Fugly Celebrity Sims on: 2007 August 22, 03:10:00
The Christina Aguilera one ain't bad. I see a resemblance. With better hair/makeup/clothes she'd actually look quite like the celebrity.
20  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: New EP procedure - would love recommendations. on: 2007 August 21, 17:51:52
You know, this year when I came back from Europe and finally got Seasons I was in the exact same situation. I got the game months after and so all fixes and patches and stuff were out already. It just wasn't the same...

I guess I rather liked the minor chaos that ensues every time an EP is released. And when it wasn't there I kinda missed it. Cry
21  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How to renew CAS thumbnails? on: 2007 August 11, 21:48:05
Hmm. Well that's what I thought too, but when I shift+click nothing happens, not even the momentary lag that shows you the computer's working. I am playing in a window at the moment though. Does that make a difference w/ the game?
22  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How to renew CAS thumbnails? on: 2007 August 11, 21:32:50
That's the thing. I've got thousands upon thousands of downloaded files and I only have a few items w/ wonky thumbnails. I want to only regenerate these select thumbnails w/out getting rid of all the cached thumbnails.
23  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / How to renew CAS thumbnails? on: 2007 August 11, 20:56:48
How do you regenerate new thumbnails in CAS? I don't mean every single thumbnail, but some thumbnails I want to change and I can't find how to do it anymore. I have my CAS in debug mode but still nothing's happening. Is there something else I've got to do?

Edit: Oops. Maybe it was down just now or something. I can see it now. Embarrassed
