351  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Adding Memory....On of scale of 1 to 10.....how difficult should this be? on: 2006 June 30, 21:18:24
It sounds to me like it's just bad ram. Did you get an off-brand?
352  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Adding Memory....On of scale of 1 to 10.....how difficult should this be? on: 2006 June 30, 19:32:37
First, 1 gig should be enough for Sims 2. It works for me. I suspect your problems running the game probably stem from something else.

However, my first question is: are you sure you got the right kind of memory? Check http://www.crucial.com/. My second is: what brand did you get?

My third is, what's with all the ellipses? Tongue
353  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: When building, why do windows disappear (but not really)? on: 2006 June 30, 19:08:13
Neriana - have you checked to make sure you don't have ceiling lights right in front of the door.  I read somewhere that this causes doors to stay open.  I moved a bunch of my ceiling lights and I don't seem to have that problem anymore!  wheeee!

Hm, I'll check that, but I don't have ceiling lights in my bathrooms. I will move the lights I have in there as far away from the door as possible though, thanks for the tip.
354  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Social for toddlers please!!!! on: 2006 June 30, 05:05:52
The best way to get toddler social up is to give them a bath...

And I don't know about anyone else, but I can WATCH a toddler playing and not gain any social interation from it if said toddler is completely ignoring me.

My social goes down if I am forced to interact with a toddler in any way. I work in retail. Kids. Ugh.
355  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: When building, why do windows disappear (but not really)? on: 2006 June 30, 04:11:27
Yeah, the blank window and door thing happens to me all the time too, but it doesn't stay that way in live mode. Saving regularly while building helps somewhat, but doesn't eliminate it. Irritating, but not as much of an issue as doors staying open indefinitely while playing, for me.
356  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Brace yourselves! on: 2006 June 29, 19:17:09
it's not so much that I want to get off to watching sims wank, but it's a matter of realism. People wank. And I have one or two sims who're single and/or pervy, and for whom it's in character. And hey, think of all the shy Romance sims!

(actually, someone should make a "have online sex" modded computer that fills the "have woohoo" want, for those Romance sims who're married with a family and need a quick way to have some affairs)

Do you really want to watch your Sims to do everything people do? Tongue

Online sex and actual sex are two entirely different things. I really can't see online woohoo fulfilling an actual woohoo want.

That song is stuck in my head now Roll Eyes.

I think the whole MTS2 server is being slow, because I can't get in either.

But if it is made from custom animations, imagine the possibilities... whenever people stop thinking about Sim porn, that is.

People will never stop thinking about Sim porn.

Is it just me, or does the idea of watching one's Sims masturbate seem to finally cross into some really weird category? Like, talk about something you could be doing yourself instead! Voyeurism is one thing, voyeurism regarding masturbation takes it to another level, voyeurism regarding pixels "masturbating"...
360  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Engagement/Proposal Option Gone on: 2006 June 28, 19:04:32
Kittens are only good for chasing mice away. That... and looking cute. Once they turn into big fat lazy solitary creatures they aren't that nice.

My cat is neither fat nor lazy nor not-nice. All my kitties have been nice, in fact, whether or not they're also fat and lazy, and they are NOT solitary. That is a really crappy myth about cats. Angry

You're also perfectly safe installing things like clothing, hair, object recolors, etc. They'll slow down the time it takes for your game to load, and if you have a lot of very large (file-size) objects on a lot, they'll slow that down too, but they won't cause any other problems if they're made correctly.

If you do find a hack or object that causes problems, it's also very simple to just remove it. It can be time-consuming to track down the offender, though. Don't be afraid to try custom content and hacks that are supported (especially those from this site) in your game. They do improve the game immensely, and I personally would not still be playing without them Smiley.
362  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How can my Sims meet aliens and vampires ? on: 2006 June 27, 20:29:44
The NL special NPC's (The slob, diva, Mr Big and the vampires) are all generated as a random aspiration (in Count Goopy's case, family) but are then forced by the game to be pleasure sims. In the process, the LTW's are not changed.

Are you sure? I haven't checked any of the other special NPCs with SimPE or anything, but my Mr. Big, at least, is definitely a fortune sim.

So is mine.

The awesome (TM) college adjustor by TwoJeffs has the option to make your Sim a vampire, too.
363  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Empty Wants Panel on: 2006 June 27, 20:01:54
Some of the weird things in your game will also be fixed by installing some hacks. Search here for any critical or important fixes. Avoiding any and all hacks will cause you many more problems than installing some selectively and carefully. Good luck!
364  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How can my Sims meet aliens and vampires ? on: 2006 June 25, 01:24:24
Turn-ons don't really do much, though they can push lightning bolts up a bit. One of this Sim's turn-ons is vampirism, but I can't even remember what the other is. She's romance, he's pleasure, and apparently she happened to have the right astrological sign too. I've never had three lightning bolts happen without at least one sign being attracted to the other, with no repulsion. I wasn't even trying for the count, I just wanted to get my romance Sim a date. Just happened that way.

The lifetime want of my Count Goopy is to marry off six children, by the way. WTF?
365  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How can my Sims meet aliens and vampires ? on: 2006 June 24, 17:56:32
I got the Count as a $5000 date for one of my Sims, as well. 3 lightning bolts. Convenient, since I wanted to make her a vampire.
366  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Relationship Oddity - Possible Problem? on: 2006 June 24, 03:46:50
The cow thing is fixed by the romance mod. The cow still flirts, but when it's (almost invariably) rejected, Sims won't get upset at the person flirted with. They get upset with the cow. Who the heck gets upset at their boyfriend or girlfriend for rejecting flirtation with someone else, anyway?
367  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Um, Greek houses and Pledges... I must be missing something! on: 2006 June 24, 00:52:39
If she's a member of the Secret Society, that doesn't matter, I've gotten them to move in before. If she's the cow, llama, streaker or cheerleader, I've never tried to move those in, so maybe that could cause issues.

Is she friends with the student who tried to move her in?
368  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Easy Break Up hack on: 2006 June 23, 02:48:57
http://classics.mit.edu/Sophocles/oedipus.html if you want the full version. A great play that made for a non-great psychological theory. Freud was awesome in that he advocated listening to patients, but his theories were mostly bunk.
http://classics.mit.edu/Sophocles/antigone.html, Antigone, is an even better play and even more depressing, about Oedipus' daughter.
369  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Easy Break Up hack on: 2006 June 21, 19:22:11
All my Sims want to woohoo all the time, except pleasure Sims, who would rather jump on the couch Roll Eyes.

My Sims are well-trained Grin.
370  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: new hacks that may be of interest... on: 2006 June 21, 19:09:38
I seem to remember that romantic kiss greeting causing jealousy before. Maybe they fixed it with Nightlife. I have the romancemod installed, and now my Sims don't seem to do that if they're committed to a different Sim.

I miss the hand thing too, it was great with outgoing Sims.

I feel a helluva lot safer in D.C., which I visit very regularly, than driving down the road in Florida. Even factoring D.C. traffic into account.

Thanks SaraMK, that's great info.
373  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Easy Break Up hack on: 2006 June 20, 20:39:13
I've long thought we need another aspiration, because the slutty 'romance' aspiration isn't at all romantic. I would like one where they want to fall in love and get married, then roll a want to have a kid or two, but mostly roll wants to do things with their significant other. Instead, I'm left with the choice to have a sim that wants to slut it up all over town, or a sim that wants to have a million mewling little brats.

Actually, that's pretty much what my most of my Sims end up being. They'll get obnoxious wants stuck there sometimes: have 10 kids, be abducted, woohoo in public with 3 different Sims (which every aspiration gets), etc., but after a few Simdays I'm usually able to make them want what I want them to want, and just ignore that one obnoxious want. The only exception I've found yet is the pleasure aspiration. When the "major wants" info panel on the character creation screen shows a bunch of measly 500 point wants, you know you're in trouble.

There's no easier Sim to keep happy than one with a romance aspiration and job-related lifetime want.
374  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Easy Break Up hack on: 2006 June 20, 20:10:07
I don't know how you guys manage to have it happen in your games, but I have never ever had a sim, Family, Romance, or otherwise, initiate an autonomous romantic action towards a sim they aren't already romantically involved with.

That's odd. With the romancemod, my Sims won't initiate romantic interactions with a Sim if they are already committed to another one, but they will certainly initiate all over the place if they aren't already committed. Family Sims seem more likely than others to initiate as well. I had two non-controllable, non-lightning bolt Sims, popularity and family, fall in love at their friends' wedding all on their own, for instance.
375  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Repricing floors and walls? on: 2006 June 20, 05:09:57
I've given up on repricing floors and walls, though the cheating nature of all the $1 stuff drives me nutty. Same with objects. This game is not hard, what on earth necessitates making things so cheap? For objects, it really screws up Fortune Sims as well: they all end up with exactly the same sculptures, sinks, etc., and very little custom content works for them.

I didn't know that comfort was not readily editable on custom stuff through SimPE. Is it just comfort, or does it apply to all the other stats (besides price)? And if so, how does one edit the stats?
