TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Second AL patch is out.

Thanks a million for that witch, it works fine *sheepie button* What's worrying me is that my winrar keeps throwing corrupted file errors at me. I've redownloaded it and reinstalled it, but it even gives corrupt files on the AL director's cut zip. And I *know* that one should work, cause otherwise there'd be a lot of moaning going on. Solutions? H4xorz? Wisdom?

Did you try GameCopyWorld? I just tried to download the no cd no patch, and it worked fine. I've tried both that one and gameburn thingie, one has mirrors that lead to 'file not found', the other has a corrupt archive for me. (don't remember which is which atm.) I'm getting a lot of 'corrupt archive' errors with winrar lately though, so it's possible that the problem is on my end, but I've no clue how to even begin fixing it and too tired atm to do research on it. You could also not patch, use original no-CD, and use Pescado's fixes, like most of us here. I never even swallowed patch 1. I would love to, but I can't seem to get the original no-cd downloaded. That's why I was asking if any of you could share a confirmed-to-work one. Thanks Mootilda, I've had a really shitty day but you've just shone a bit of light into it I'll figure out how to install the dizzy thing in the morning when I've got a clear head.

Right, I've got a problem.
I got AL today, and obviously don't want Suckurom. However:
- I can't download patch 1 (since EA replaced it with patch 2) and apply a no cd to it - The archives for the no cd of the basegame I've found, are all corrupt, or the download mirrors don't work (none of them)
So basically, I can't play until a no cd for patch 2 comes out. Is there anyone who can:
- Zip up patch 1 for me and post a download link or - Do the same with a working patch 1 no cd archive?
Cheers...

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Familiars without zomgPets installed?
|
on: 2008 October 23, 10:46:48

I'm contemplating getting Apartment Life, but a bit concerned about the witch familiars. I don't have Pets installed as part of my expansion set up (and would really rather not, the constant barking at night is only one of the things that drives me mad).
Would this cause problems with the witch familiars? Or is everything needed to get those included in AL?

I've had this occur a couple of times in my latest attempts to reinstall the game. In my case simply restarting the game fixed the problem, though uninstalling and reinstalling a couple of times might not be a bad idea either. Don't assume that reinstalling the game doesn't fix it after having it tried once, try at least a couple of times before giving up on it.
As Papercut said, a lot of errors i got with the game and patches seem random, and after the third try it might work as if nothing happened. (it did for me anyway)

You could try using Inge's 'stuff stays while moving out' shrub (can't remember the correct name atm) to quickly see if evicting and moving back in fixes the problem, I suppose. That should at least keep all your hard work on the furnishings intact. I am not awesome however, so you might want to wait till someone else suggests something

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Trouble reinstalling (patch)

The problem with running the game before patching it is Suckurom - I don't want to have to change all the exe's and then patch again. For future reference: (if anyone ever gets so unlucky to have the same amount of trouble with this as I had) The problems I had with patching was NOT the result of something that went wrong during the installation of my game. For some reason, the patches apparently do not always download properly. If a patch gives you trouble, redownload it. You might have to redownload several times (I had to redownload the University one 6 times before it worked), just keep trying until it works. It really *is* the patch itself, as at one point I tried out the 3 different University patches again that I had downloaded. They consistently gave errors at the exact same place in the installation progress. (One threw an error message at the start, the other at the middle, the third one was fine.) I've done some googling on the matter and it seems quite a few people had problems with the patches. Huzzah to EAxis for even managing to fuck up that one.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Trouble getting FT no cd crack
|

Thanks, I've got a no cd one now. (Whew) However, I've got some more problems. As you could have guessed I am attempting a complete reinstall. The game itself installs just fine, my problem is with the patches. I have done a 'proper' reinstall, meaning I deleted all files, in program files and my documents, cleaned out my trashcan, went into regedit and deleted the registry keys. This installation is squeaky clean as far as I know. Yet when I try and run a patch, I get the standard windows error going 'An error has occured in TheSims2_updater_exe. This programme will now close down'. No matter what I do (I tried uninstalling and installing again, switching off my firewall, small animal sacrifices, etc.) the damn patch just won't install. This is the official patch from the Sims2.com site, and not a single one works. It doesn't work either if I just install the basegame and try to patch that. Hlep? Edit: I am now replacing MATY as my religion. As soon as I posted this, I clicked the updater again to check if there was anything else in the error message that could help me out, and lo and behold: it worked just fine. Now to try the rest of the expansions, but damn you lot work fast. And even without replying! Edit Edit: Right, cancel that, the patch for University now throws the same wobbly, only further into the patching process. I have no idea what I am doing wrong, whether the patch just doesn't like me or what. Hopefully it will sort itself out as well after having tried it 20+ times... but in the meantime, anyone have experience with this sort of nonsense? Yet another Edit: Basegame, university, nightlife and open for business installed. All patches successful, except for the University one, which is still stuck right at the end of the update. Is it necessary to install the university patch if I have newer expansions/patches installed?

I cannot download the Fairlight patched FT no cd crack. None of the download mirrors work for me, they all say the file has not been found.
Is there anyone who has a patched FT no cd crack laying around that they could share, or anyone with a link to a site where I can properly DL it? I fail at finding one myself.
My eternal thanks to anyone who can help me out.

I've reset Pleasantview (the only hood I play) so often I've lost count. I tend to lose interest in the game, uninstall it, then get back to it after a couple of months and reinstall. Every time I play Pleasantview I tend to take a different route than I did the last time. Cassandra has been married to Don, to Dirk Dreamer, to some random townie and has remained a spinster... I like playing out different scenarios

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Quick way of changing file names?
|
on: 2008 August 14, 10:11:07
|
Quick question: I know that in order to safely get a new hood with lots included into other people's games, you need to rename the neighbourhood to N573 (or another random ridiculously high number), to avoid conflicts. I'm assuming all files in that folder need to be changed to reflect the new neighbourhood number too. Is there a quick way to do this as opposed to slogging through all the files manually? Thanks in advance, oh fount of wisdom

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Loading screen and neighbourhood music

The Freetime loading screen and neighbourhood music irritates the crap out of me. Is there any way to set the EP music that plays while in those modes? (say for example I only want the base game and seasons music). Or is this impossible alltogether and will I have to grin and bear it?
Cheers in advance.

Squinge may have one, but TwoJeffs' has his version over on inteen that's updated for new EPs, since he's still active modding and Squinge has 'retired'.
Checked it out and it's indeed TwoJeffs, not Squinge (as was suggested in the thread I linked to). Are all professors elders? They seem to be in my game, which annoys me. My professors at uni weren't all old guys. If they ARE all elders, is it okay to switch them to adults with SimPE, or would that be a VBT?
