TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Is it bad to flatten a beach lot?

Put 2 beaches in a corner and they don't agree. The view from one: and then the other: Where did the water come from? A view of the ravaged coastline. I just flattened a lot with the tool and the occupant happily swam, autonomously sunbathed (during a thunderstorm) and combed for shells. Any suggestions?

This calls for testing. Perhaps it was the flatten lot tool which killed the beach. For a while I wondered if maybe it was just that the waves were season dependent (I noticed in Autumn). If I can get at the game (on wrong 'puter) I'll check.
On the subject of placement, I have some amusing screenshots of how not to place beach lots. I was checking my custom SC4 terrains for beach compatibility. Will try and remember to post some for entertainment purposes.

I did place modular stairs which they were able to use when I forced them to, but there were no waves. I must have broken the beachness somehow as except for me being able to see it, it wasn't there. Flattening the lot was the only thing I can think of that might have done it. This was in a brand new 'hood, the non-beach was the only placed lot and I didn't move it. The only playable sim (until he married and had kids) was resident. The beach did work for a while but I wasn't watching closely enough to know what killed it.

Having tried the place, delete, replace with a beach template, the lot maintained its original contours (little hilly bits in the middle). In build mode I used the flatten lot tool which may or may not have been the cause of my non-functioning beach. It was not possible to swim and the sand did not advertise seashell hunts or sand castles. The same family is now happily engrossed in the beach next door and I deleted that lot.

I had a brief attempt with up to OFB. I had to cheat to save her as she was fired on Thursday without sufficient money for a fridge. I had bought a sofa, basin and one piece of wall and Thursday's pay would have been enough for a mini-fridge (just in time as she had Friday off). I had to alternate the basin and fridge to revive her enough to get another job. I did keep going, but obviously suck as her two eldest are teens and she only has one room. I might give it another go in a bit.

Let me know if you find a good copy of OFB. I have tried 2 different versions and neither worked. It takes so long and I only have a laptop so not keen on wasting that much time/memory/processing power unless I have a better chance of success.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Inge's age duration hack: how to modify?
|
on: 2007 June 26, 13:20:21

Each lifestage except elder has two values: low and high. Low is used for Sims growing up normally, high is used for Sims growing up in platinum. Add or detract from these values.
Babies can't be modified (the game ignores any changes you make), and what the multiple values for elders mean, I don't think anyone has really figured out.
3 questions 1. How many lines does elder have? I assumed it was 2 based on TwoJeffs adult/elder bonus swap hack and edited accordingly. (I use Inge's agecons but looked at TwoJeffs and decided editing the bonus/penalties was easier.) 2. Does the game actually use these values or was that part of the coding left out? I have a vague memory of reading that it was meant to do this but doesn't. 3. I have successfully made the baby stage 1 day shorter. Why does it work for me and not you/others?

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Sims Evolving Meal Habits

I've noticed that hungry sims will try to make themselves a meal unless someone else has reached a certain point in the preparation of a meal. I think wait for food doesn't kick in until the timer has gone off, ie basically finished cooking it and is about to serve. I try and make my sims walk somewhere or do a short action so it ends at about the right time for them to realise someone else is cooking. Making them sit doesn't work as they then just watch everyone eat around them, join in the conversation and don't have the brains to feed themselves, even if a plate is out in front of them.

Are there EP limitations on this? I have Uni + NL and with the 2 files in my sims couldn't die properly. Grimmie turned up and errored, cancel didn't work (I play in debug mode) and reset caused him and the dead graveless sim to vanish. Recalling dead sim with Inge's shrub caused "sim died on another lot" dialogue, no gravestone and no one on the lot got the memory (all seven other residents were present). The marriage part is working. I married a cuckolded sim to his two-timing bitch while his rival (and twin) watched. I will do more extensive testing as I am still having other issues, one being a failed death from when the hack was in. I cheated a townie to an early grave and tried to plead for her to test the interaction. Grimmie ignored the pleader, gravestone appeared, Grimmie left, everyone got red memory (yay!), pleader begged thin air and got the failed death sim back. WTF?
Attached grimmie's error log in case it can help.

I've never tried it (that I can remember) but InSIM may allow you to set engagement flags on children. It does. I tried it as a result of this thread and both kids made it to teen with engagement flags intact. Of course stupid kids decided to make best friends before transition and fell in love just after with no instant love so it's hardly going to be a difficult relationship to maintain.

I got it to work and it made no attempts on my internet connection so not sure what went wrong for Hook. I must agree with Hook's comment about the names though. Unless you are Italian (or of simliar cultural background) you're not going to be too keen on the names.
Just checked, it is possible to put your own name list in but I prefer to use Hook's RandomStuff even if it doesn't have the pretty pictures.

I had that happen as well. Using the lot debugger didn't help. I had a family sim who wanted to want a child according to the error log, or at least that's how I read it. She already has 2 children but she ended up with all slots empty, presumably 2 children is enough. Her popularity husband who is not the father of her children (they live with their paternal grandfather) also wanted to want a child but he only had 2 empty slots. I have taken it out as a good idea that doesn't work with my game.
