I hate having to scroll through all those grey hairs, it will be such a relief when I've only got one of each and thankfully that part of the task is pretty easy.

The problem with the hairs is that sometimes it's difficult to tell from the thumbnail pictures whether the hair actually has a custom design for every age group or whether it is sometimes using a game default. That makes it awkward to work out whether you can delete those resources from the file. I tried splitting my hairs into batches of about 20-30 files but it's still difficult to remember which ones need deleting since recognising hair from the thumbnails is a lot harder than the clothes.

I'm attempting to update some of my custom beds so that they give more than 1 energy and 1 comfort. I know all the steps I have to complete in SimPE, however I'm coming unstuck when I try to work out what I need to change the values to inside the Tuning Sleep file. I tried looking at a couple of custom beds that say they are energy 7 and energy 10 in the actual catalogue, but the numbers inside the Tuning Sleep file didn't seem to be consistant with this, nor did any of the other beds I looked at which supposedly had energy 1 or energy 4.

I have no idea how to check an actual Maxis made bed for the right numbers so would someone be able to tell me what the numbers actually are in an energy 8 bed? I'm looking to change lines 0x0, 0x1 and 0x2.

EDIT: Just though I better be clear. I know these numbers are not supposed to match the catalogue numbers (I'm not expecting them to be 7 or 8 or whatever) however the bed which supposedly had an 8 energy rating had a lower number than the beds with 4 and 10 energy ratings. I think the creators have updated the catelogue entry but not the tuning sleep file.

No, they definitely weren't read-only, I'm pretty sure it's because I wasn't in the folder when I exited the wrangler. The files I'd just edited were ok because obviously I'd been pressing the save button after everyone, but if you want to delete files you must have to make sure you're still in the right folder when you exit the program.

I never thought about using the filters in that way to limit what I needed to do to each group. I'm going to have to go back through everything and use the filters though because some of my children's clothes were set to both genders when they were clearly only suitable for one and when I was putting them right I've set one to male that now I see it in game should definitely be female!

I will also soon be embarking on the huge task of deleting the extra hair files from my custom hairs, the only problem is I can never remember which ones aren't needed once I see them in the wrangler, I can never work it out from the thumbnail pictures.

And if I do have to remake them, will it re-kill my 'hood if I name the doppelgangers the same thing as the originals (the clones latching on to whatever bits of character files from the originals are floating around in the ether, like)?

This shouldn't be a problem since the game goes by the numbers of the character files in order to link them together. New sims would be given a new number and therefore the game would never know they were in any way linked to the old sims of that name.

What did you do with the Wardrobe Wrangler that corrupted files, if you don't mind my asking? I've just spent the last couple of days sorting through downloaded clothing. Down from 5-6 GB CC to 1.37GB now.

I fired up the game when I was about half way through and it seems fine so far.

I split my clothes into different folders of about 50 files each labelled A, B, C etc so that I didn't have to update them all at once. During one cc organising session I went through three of these folders updating them as necessary (shoe sound, age group etc.) and whilst I was there I deleted three files with the wardrobe wrangler (I'd downloaded better underwear and was planning on replacing the not-so-nice underwear every male sim was wearing). Once I was done I hit the exit button in the wrangler and it errored three times saying something about the files I'd marked for deletion so I assume it was the attempt to delete these files that caused the mess.

I'm not sure why this might have been, the only explanation I can come up with is that I wasn't exiting the wrangler between each folder, I was just loading the new set of files and then editing them, so when I closed it down the currently open folder wasn't the one containing the deleted files.

Whatever it was it was probably my own fault, but luckily I had a backup of the folder on a CD (the backup on my computer had mysteriously disappeared, causing me to panic about losing 150 files of my favourite custom outfits). Once I restored just those three folders of custom clothes from the CD the game loaded up fine again.
56  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Crashing Family on: 2008 March 28, 19:42:35
When my lots were crashing half way through loading it turned out to be because I'd somehow broken some of my custom clothes by running them through the Wardrobe Wrangler and doing something stupid. Once I restored the clothes from the backup the lots loaded fine. I'm pretty sure this was happening across the neighbourhood, but it's also possible that every family I attempted to load had the broken clothes file in the wardrobe anyway (I'm pretty certain I know which three files I broke with the wrangler and they were the underwear I give almost every male). Even if you haven't used the wardrobe wrangler it could be broken/corrupt clothes files or other custom content files causing crashes, not just custom objects.
57  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: rich sims not rich... on: 2008 March 28, 19:31:22
Isn't there some problem with NPC's where if you marry or move them in some other way they don't actually come with the money they're supposed to have and instead only have 1 simoleon? I'm sure I heard about this ages ago, I also think I might have read somewhere that the amount they were supposed to come with was 2000 simoleons, although how this relates to what shows up when you ask a sim how rich he or she is I've no idea as I've never bothered to use this option.
58  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Two questions on: 2008 March 22, 20:51:39
One of my graves disappeared randomly as well. The only thing I could attribute it to was that I'd been messing about with the Lot Debugger and SimPE to delete some character files. I'm pretty sure I didn't accidently delete the actual sim's character file though because he is still on the family tree and all his family remember him, nevertheless his grave is gone and there doesn't appear to be any option to respawn it either. This probably isn't helpful to you, unless you have been messing about in SimPE, but I'd like to know what causes it as well because I don't particularly want other graves disappearing.
59  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Need Some Uni Suggestions on: 2008 March 21, 19:16:45
Providing they're living on the lot they are practising the badge skills on then Numenor's cash register over at MTS2 should let you practise the cash register skill. If you're having them go to a community lot on the uni campus to practise their skills though this cash register doesn't work as the game sees it as a business register and automatically generates cashiers to man it even when there's nothing to sell.

I don't think there is any way of them practising sales and restocking in the uni hood though. I've been trying to set up something similar to what you describe and it's really frustrating that there's no way to learn these skills. Can people with gold talent badges pass on their skills by talking to other sims? I know sims with high skill points can pass on that skill to another sim by talking to them in FT but I haven't tried with badges yet. Maybe you could have a sim with gold badges that tutors the students if that's the case?

I finally got round to finding my custom computer and attempting to update the interaction tables. When I went into the first one the number was 80, rather than the 128 I was expecting. I thought this was odd so I just changed that one to 129 and loaded up the game.
Is this just a coincidence?

No, user error.  If you look up in top right of that window, you'll see that SimPe defaults to hex numbers, and 80 in hex = 128 decimal.  So you either need to switch it to decimal, or change it to 81. Smiley

Thanks! I can't believe it was something so simple. I just didn't think of that because when I followed the instructions for the bookcases the numbers must have already been in hex. I still find it weird that opening the lots and houses bin was the thing that cause it all to crash but I guess that's the sims for you.

I thought this was odd so I just changed that one to 129 and loaded up the game. When I went into the lots and houses bin all the icons were red and white lines and then my entire computer immediately crashed. I changed the number back to 80 reloaded the game and everything worked fine.

Is this just a coincidence? I can't see how changing one custom computer would make the game crash when I entered the lots and houses bin but my game take so long to load even without any CC that I don't want to have to run tests if I can help it.
62  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: EA/Maxis has found the Nvidia problem! on: 2008 March 16, 14:19:55
Okay, when I Alt-Ctrl-Delete it shows that I have 70 processes going.  I remember back in the olden days of TS1 there was a program that would cut off all the unnecessary background programs so that the game would run a little smoother.  Is that what this Black Viper program does, Kat?  Or, is there another program out there that does this?  I know that I do not need 70 processes going. . . and I don't know what is necessary and what is not.  It would seem that all I'd need in reality are the "System" processes, right?

Wow 70! This makes me feel a lot better, I only have 28. I always shut down unnecessary ones from inside task manager, as far as I know anything that has the name of your windows account under the column user name can be closed down with the exception of explorer, although obviously this might be different for you. I sometimes do this before I run the game but since there are only about 4 processes that I can turn off taking up under 0.5Mb it doesn't really make a lot of difference, might do if you have 70 running though!

65  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Obsessive Diary-Writing on: 2008 March 15, 00:56:42
I had the diary and computer problem before FT came out. I actually have been trying to make non autonomous files that would stop some of the more annoying behaviors, ie writing in the diary or just reading and also with the computers the play, chat and i think a few others. Unfortunatly the computer on just isnt working. I also did the same thing to fridges and tubs and bars. Pretty much anything that would get on my nerves that i couldnt find a hack to fix.

Dizzy has a no playing on the computer hack which I use and it seems to work fine, can't remember where it's posted now but I followed a link from this site to find it so a search would probably bring it up.

The problem with no autonomy hacks is that as you squish each action the sims fall back on the next one and that one becomes annoying requiring it to be squished as well so the sims fall back on another and the cycle continues until you might as well just turn free will off. Currently my sims are obsessed with looking at paintings/sculptures/kitchen cabinets etc. to the point where they will do it even if they are about to piss themselves.
66  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: EA/Maxis has found the Nvidia problem! on: 2008 March 15, 00:42:32
I have 1Gb RAM and a Radeon 9600 graphics card and I've just started getting blue screens since installing FT. The screen goes blue for anywhere between 30 seconds to five minutes but the game has never crashed so far, it always comes back. I have Norton installed, never even thought about turning it off since it's been there for so long and never caused problems. I think I'll try playing with it disabled and see if that stops the blue screen appearing, worth a try I suppose!

Sadly I can't afford to update anything on my computer right now, no matter how cheap it may be. Hopefully before Sims 3 comes out I'll be able to upgrade most of my computer because I doubt it would cope with the game at all and I certainly don't have the harddrive space for it.
67  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: SimPe is released for FT and Castaways on: 2008 March 12, 00:10:09
That was fast, thanks for the info.

I'm still using the CEP from before FT and it seems to work fine. Even the toilet cubicle EAxis recolours still work (I seem to remember every other expansion pack causing these to break if CEP was used).
68  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Anti watch out isn't working for me on: 2008 March 12, 00:06:36
I've just been playing a lot with one of those cars sims restore on the driveway. Everytime my sims tried to carry some rubbish over the drive to the compost bin they would turn round and drop the rubbish on the floor. This happened with both the gardener and my playable sim when I tried to get her to pick up the rubbish the gardener had dropped. Everytime the little "Watch Out!" icon would come up in the corner.

Is this happening to anyone else or is it just me? I've got the latest version of the hack and the only non-awsome hacks I have are lotfullofsims and a few others that only effect a single object (like simwardrobe's counter buffets).

Thanks for the fridge file. I remember updating all my custom fridges when Season came out, guess it's time to do them all again.

I noticed today for the first time that none of my custom changing tables have the outerwear option, not sure why I never noticed this before but now it's bugging me. Is there an easy way to update them?
70  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: So... What happened to the Sound Effects? on: 2008 March 10, 13:35:37
Do you need a driver for your sound card or for your speakers that might need redownloading or updating? I'm not particularly good with stuff like that but I remember once when I plugged in some new speakers they seemed to work fine for some things but for other things they didn't. My brother fixed it in the end and I'm sure he said he'd downloaded a new driver to make them work properly. Just a thought.

CBOY_EatMoreTalkLess.package

I was under the impression this didn't work anymore and that JM's noeatcrap had the same functions. I don't see what it would have to do with the trashcan though, but just thought I'd mention it in case anyone knew different.

Rewards_-_Resi_Lots.package

I'd like to know where this is from too and the no-auto-computer-play, I've just tried searching for them on google but to no avail.

Also there has been another update to ACR just yesterday, did you install that?

I know it's been 30 days since anyone posted in this thread, but I didn't see the point in starting a new one when we could just have all the information together in this thread (makes searching a lot easier).

I have recently discovered a load of .bak files in my folder where I keep all my custom clothes and some of them are over 3Mb big. Is it safe to just delete these same as the sim .bak files or will deleting them affect my custom content?
73  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Always twins in any pregnant. Help!!! on: 2008 March 08, 23:50:45
Here's a simple breakdown of randomization:

The Sims 2 picks random numbers from a long list of numbers. Example: 13, 12, 57, 2. Assume that goes on for a long time.
Now, a baby born with number 13 might be serious, neat, and lazy, while a baby born with 12 will be serious, sloppy, and lazy, while baby 57 might be playful, sloppy, lazy. Supposedly it starts at a random position in the list so you get a random baby; however, this is broken. Instead, it always starts at baby 13, followed by baby 12, then baby 57. When you quit the game and open it again, it resets to baby 13, then baby 12, then baby 57. Thus, if you don't run the randomizer, you always get baby 13 as the first baby born every play session.

Now, of course, baby 13 for couple A might be totally different than baby 13 for couple B, because the parents have different personalities, but the idea is that if you have a baby to couple A, then save and quit, then have a second baby to couple A, it'd be exactly the same personality-wise.

Does that make sense?

Perfect sense! Thank you so much, that was the clearest explanation I've ever read and I finally feel like I understand. The last paragraph was particularly illuminating since it made everything you said in the first paragraph (which is information I've read time and time again) fall into place within the game.

Previously from the information I was reading it sounded as if everytime you reloaded the game and a baby was born it would have a baby 13 type personality that would be identical to every other baby 13 born in the game no matter what the family and I always thought this didn't make sense within the genetic structure of the game.

Now for the first time I'm actually noticing where the first born effects have occured within my game and I'll be using the randomiser from now on.
74  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Updating CC for FT on: 2008 March 08, 23:32:11
Excellent! Now if only I could find my custom computers in my downloads folder. All my objects are in a seperate folder in there and I found my bookcases by simply searching the folder for files containing the word 'bookcase'. So far searches for 'computer', 'comp', 'laptop', 'mac' and 'pc' have turned up nothing. Just what are creators labelling their files that contain custom computers, or am I missing something obvious here!?
75  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Updating CC for FT on: 2008 March 08, 12:33:01
Does changing the interaction table number on computers and bookcases mean that your sims will now gain hobby enthusiasm on them as well?
