101  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Resurrection and romance on: 2008 February 25, 11:52:13
I've heard of this happening before and in that case it was something to do with the fact that the game already thinks they are in love and/or married even though the icon doesn't show. I can't remember if there was a solution though so I guess that's not entirely helpful!
102  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Wardrobe Wrangler Released! on: 2008 February 25, 11:40:35
I've just downloaded this and aleady I absolutely love it! There is just one thing that I don't quite understand yet. I've heard that if you have a style of hair that comes in black, brown, blonde and red then obviously all grey hair in all four packages will be the same. I've read many times that this means the grey hair can be deleted in three out of the four hair packages to save space. What I can't quite work out though is what happens if you leave the grey hair only in say the black package then have an adult with the blonde version of the hair transition to elder. Does the game know to give them the black version of the grey hair (assuming the hairs were familied) or does it choose another hair for them because it can't find the blonde version of the grey hair?
103  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Furious behaviour on non-furious sims? on: 2008 February 25, 00:43:47
One of the sims that does this is a nice old lady that I made in CAS and I'm pretty sure I gave her more than 3 nice points because I was intending for her to be... well, a nice old lady.

Also one of my sims keeps throwing up this error and although I have no idea what anything in these error logs mean it does keep mentioning things to do with her fury tokens. I have about 6 of these errors all refering to this same sim and at least two that reference the child of one of the sims who keeps doing the furious action.

I've probably broken something. The neighbourhood is pretty old it goes right back to the base game when it wasn't known that certain actions were a very bad idea and liable to cause a BFBVFS.
104  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Furious behaviour on non-furious sims? on: 2008 February 24, 19:42:22
It's happening to sims who have never been burgled. I've also tried clearing out all gossip tokens but it still happens so it can't be a burglary they've just heard about.

I do have sims that have been burgled who get the furious action and a burglary thought bubble so it isn't that thought bubbles don't show up in my game.

Thanks for the suggestions though!
105  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Furious behaviour on non-furious sims? on: 2008 February 24, 18:58:27
I have several sims in my neighbourhood that keep doing that weird furious stance (clenched fists, furious expression) but no thought bubble about anyone pops up. Also they are not furious with anyone when I check their relationship panel and I'm pretty sure that at least one of the sims showing this behavious has never been furious with anyone in her life. What is going on? How can I stop this?

I've done a few searches on this site and I couldn't find much about this but I know there are tokens that can be looked at in SimPE and either I'm looking in the wrong place or these sims don't have any furious tokens. Where do I need to look?
106  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bon Voyage Patch #2: Now on thesims2.ea on: 2008 February 24, 18:22:58
If you don't patch, stuff fixed by the patch will be bugged forever. And I think they often make changes to things other than what they actually list. Like engine issues or something. Unlike the sims 1, patches for previous problems are not included in the new EPs.

Really? Eeek I didn't know that, I just assumed the new EP would fix the issues with the last EP! I think I patched the base game and one other EP but usually I just use MATY fixes. It doesn't seem right that a new EP wouldn't fix previous issues though, what about all those people who play but don't have internet access on the computer they play on? Or people who just don't bother to ever look at anything to do with the online Sims community and so never hear about the patches? Surely they would have to include new fixes in EPs to make sure those people's games were ok?
107  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bon Voyage Patch #2: Now on thesims2.ea on: 2008 February 21, 15:10:46
This new patch doesn't fix the problem of oriental food being served at the island food stand,

I've never had this problem! Is it definitely a BV problem or was it introduced in the patch or from some other cause?

Also the looping weddings I haven't experienced but I heard the missing limo is because now your married couples can take 'real' honeymoons instead of fake limo ones.
108  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What exactly are jase, jfade and Quaxi hiding? on: 2007 November 03, 14:26:24
So... do you think it likely that SimPE for BV will not be finished?  Will there even be a SimPE for the last EP?  I'm not pulling my hair out over this (yet), but I do have a few tasks that require SimPE to complete.  So do you think I should just suck it up and try the QA version, or wait and hope that Quaxi finishes the project, or just give it up as a lost cause?

The QA version seems farily stable to me and I've had it for a couple of months, but then I don't use it for anything really complicated. I was lucky, I applied for the QA version and was given access the next day. I use SimPE all the time so if there isn't one for the next expansion pack it'll be a pain.
109  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Constant errors on one of my YAs on: 2007 October 10, 14:18:33
Removing the pool table solved the problem, thanks everyone.

A couple of sim days later however everything started throwing up errors whenever my sims tried to do an autonomous action and that was probably due to a couple of outdated hacks. I've got the latest versions now so hopefully everything will be fine.

EDIT: Actually it turned out to be caused by one of my custom chairs in the dormitory. Bizzare!
110  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Constant errors on one of my YAs on: 2007 October 09, 15:29:35
Thanks I'll try that, it sounds likely since he was near the custom pool table at the time with free will on and one of the dormies was playing so the game might have been trying to get him to join. It's a shame though, I really like that pool table even if I do hardly use it. I wonder what the problem is with them, it's not like Seasons changed the pool table interactions is it?
111  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Constant errors on one of my YAs on: 2007 October 09, 13:54:16
In one of my custom dorms I have two male YAs, when I was playing today one of them kept throwing up errors. When I pressed reset the error would re-occur perhaps 30 seconds later. I tried turning off debug mode and he just stood there frozen refusing to carry out any commands until I turned debug mode back on and forced an error on him.

I can't work out what could be causing this. I played another dorm just prior to this with no problems at all so I don't think it can be a hack conflict. I am extremely bad at reading error logs though so any help would be appreciated, even if it just narrows it down to the error being caused by a hack/an object/corrupt memories/corrupt sim/ etc. Thanks.
112  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Three last questions, I swear this is it on: 2007 October 08, 14:42:01
As far as uninstalling goes, the InSim Obj (object) is only one file, clearly marked, and all you have to do is take it out. The object is the science station, and even though all the spawnables show up separate in 'electronics - all' section of the buy catalog, it is only one file in your download folder.

Not trying to plug InSim, but fair is fair Cheesy

I have the InSim Obj, and I use it when the game throws up and makes a mess. InSim is very handy to clean it up. Such as vacation days not subtracting properly, aging is not working properly, etc. It doesn't happen often, but happen it does. When you make the family pet controllable, it also works for/with the pet(s), just as the lot-debugger. I was very pleasantly surprised when the lot-debugger let me clean up the family pet's trash memory after I made the pet controllable.

Thanks for the info, I don't really know much about InSim since I've never bothered to use it. I think I might have been thinking of InTeen instead of InSim when I said that, or possibly just something of an entirely different name altogether! Also I didn't know the lotdugger worked with controllable pets! I'm all excited now about clearing my pets memories. Since I discovered the joys of clearing out trash memories I'm completely OCD about it.
113  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: CEP 7.0b (BV version) released! on: 2007 October 07, 22:53:49
Thanks for the info. This will be the first time I've had a properly updated CEP for my game since it first came out, I've never bothered before. I'm looking forward to some differently coloured toilet stalls and whatever else I've been missing out on.
114  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: OMGWTFBBQ BFBVFS! (no build mode function sort) on: 2007 October 07, 22:44:19
This happened to me too, like Kutto I messed around a bit (and possibly went to another lot) and it went away. Have you tried going to another lot and seeing if it comes back?
115  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: No cook showing up in dormitories on: 2007 October 06, 21:17:32
Ok, thanks for the clarification. Seems like a stupid rule to me, but I guess they wanted to keep the quality of dormitory food low.
116  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: No cook showing up in dormitories on: 2007 October 06, 12:40:07
I have the most expensive cooker in the dorm so if that's not the ShinyTyme one that's probably what's going wrong since I have plenty of counter space and both a sink and a dishwasher. Thanks for the advice, I'll check next time I play.
117  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Three last questions, I swear this is it on: 2007 October 06, 12:17:01
Thanks seapup. I don't have the teleportation shrub so I guess I either get that or leave the family without his tombstone.

Insim has summoner options as well, if you have that.

No I don't have that either. Never wanted any of its features that I don't already have hacks for. Until now that is! I think I'll go with downloading the teleporter shrub though since it will be a lot easier to uninstall afterwards.
118  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / No cook showing up in dormitories on: 2007 October 06, 11:51:43
I've searched and searched for this but I haven't found anything else on this problem.

I built a dormitory in a fresh university hood then changed the lot zoning using the cheat. I've moved in a couple of my playable sims and all the other rooms have been filled by dormies but no cook has shown up yet even after two sim days. Since I'm using nouniprotect some of my stupid dormies are starting to starve. Is there a special fridge/cooker I need to use to get the cook to show up? Is there something else I need to do to get a cook to arrive?
119  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: beach activities stopped working BV on: 2007 October 03, 11:37:21
Have you tried the sandcastle and sunbathing fix available on this site? Or tried using the lot debugger to nuke beach junk? Sandcastles and sunbathing leave behind markers on your beaches and if there's too many of them the beach activities stop working properly.
120  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Walkbys/Vistors wear outwear in the snow hack? I really really have searched .. on: 2007 October 03, 11:31:26
Embarrassed duh - thanks Emma.  Okay - now just to prove I'm really stupid - how do you know what the temperature is?  As far as I can tell the sim's individual temperature bars only show red, green and blue - not an actual temperature.

Also I do have JMs no uneeded coats hack - maybe that's why my townies aren't wearing their coats?

I don't have that hack and sims coming to my lots appear to wear coats at random. The welcome wagon never seem to wear coats. Walkbys often do in the winter and spring, invited guests occasionally do. Obviously this must be linked to the temperature being below -70 but it still looks random. It's especially odd because sometimes when I greet the guests and they come inside then immediately head outside again they will pause at the door to change into outerwear. Surely the temperature hasn't dropped the much in the time it's taken them to walk to the back door?

You can tell what the temperature is by downloading the lotdebugger (available in The Firing Range) and placing it on the lot. Clicking on it gives you the option Info>Temperature Stats (or something similar). An info box then pops up in the top right corner to tell you the temperature on the lot as well as various other temperature stats.
121  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Nine Potato-Head Unknowns? on: 2007 October 03, 11:17:59
I just get rid of fugly dormies the Pescado way -- put nouniprotect in the game and let them kill themselves off with their own stupidity. Smiley

I've played with that hack in before, but my dormies stubbornly refuse to die. They just end up dropping to sleep in really inconvienient places so that in the end I have to wake them up to get them out the way. The stupid sims don't appear to sleep in beds when nouniprotect is in place even when I plonked a bed right in the middle of the corridor.

Whoops!  My turn to be completely embarrassed, I guess, along the lines of I can't believe I didn't see that.  Good luck.

I'll just go off somewhere else now for a bit and try to find the other braincell.

Don't worry jolrei, I guess we both need to pay more attention to what we're reading.
122  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Three last questions, I swear this is it on: 2007 October 02, 18:43:39
Thanks seapup. I don't have the teleportation shrub so I guess I either get that or leave the family without his tombstone. I know there's some summoner options just by going into debug mode in the game like 'add neighbour to family' and others, but I'm not sure they include ghosts. Maybe I'll have a look round next time I play.

I've saved my game whilst sims have been on the cellphones before. Probably not very often because I usually save when the sims are asleep but I'm sure I've done it. I didn't know it was a VBT, I'll have to add it to my list of things not to do with my game.
123  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Nine Potato-Head Unknowns? on: 2007 October 02, 18:28:22
Simply pressing "delete" on the character files will not likely do the job, even if you have never played your hood.  See posts on "delete 2" (use that as search keyword).  No point in creating a hood if all sorts of dangling garbage (memories, SWAFs, sim DNA, etc.) simply makes it unplayable.

Depending on how many dormies/townies you want to delete, this is a bit of an 'involved' process.  It may be easier to delete your new hood, install the clean or empty templates (which will prevent the creation of the dormies and townies to begin with), make sure you have all the anti-regen/spawn hacks in, and build a nice new clean hood.  You can then spawn your townies/dormies using the townie creator or CAS-build them yourself.

Thanks, I've already used deleted 2 sucessfully many times, which is why I mentioned that this will mean spending a few hours with the lotdebugger and SimPE. Removing the hood would have been a good option, but unfortunately I've already moved in some of my playables so I think deleting is the way to go. I don't play Uni hoods very often and haven't made one since just after the expansion came out which is probably why I didn't know about the dormies being a standard set.
124  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Nine Potato-Head Unknowns? on: 2007 October 02, 01:11:14
Dormies aren't spawned -- the EAxis dorm templates include them as characters.  So of course they all look alike, and since they already exist, they don't use your new face templates.  You have to use an empty dorm template to not get them.

Thanks for the info. I can't believe I somehow managed to avoid coming across that piece of information in all the threads I've read around here, especially since I knew how the Professors worked. Also I can't believe I completely forgot about using the cleaned up template when I wanted to make a new Uni for this hood. I guess this now means a few hours spent with the LotDebugger and SimPE. Once I've deleted them all I assume the game will regenerate at least some dormies, won't it? I've got notownieregn installed at the moment so I guess that will have to come out for a while first.

On a seperate note this is my 100th post. I just felt like mentioning it, since it's taken me nearly a year to get to it. Tongue
125  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: BV and no CD? on: 2007 October 01, 23:34:53
That would be the SecuROM spyware at work, yes.

Stupid SecuROM! It doesn't happen everytime and I always try to remember to disconnect the internet before I run the game anyway. With the internet unplugged the game loads faster than it did before I installed BV. With the internet plugged in it takes forever to load, even if I take out all my custom content. So I guess if I'm going to unplug the internet everytime I plaay I don't really need to worry about secuROM because it's not going to be able to send anything to EA with no internet connection is it? Or am I just being overly optimistic there?

ETA: As suggested by Denimjo I searched my computer for SecuROM. All I found was this folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\UserID\Application Data\SecuROM
It was hidden and inside it was a folder called UserData which appeared to be empty. Checking the properties of said folder reveals it to be 0 bytes so I'm sure there isn't anything lurking inside it. Where then is secuROM? (if it's there at all) Huh
