What hacks do you use? Have you updated them? Have you updated them today? (JMP does almost daily updates on some of his hacks as bug reports come in.)
Also look for an error log file in My Documents\ea games\the sims 2\logs, and post them as attachments. Someone will look at them and tell you likely causes.

If you just want the one reward then go into debug mode boolprop testingcheatsenabled true then hold down the shift key and click on the newspaper and from the pie menu select career reward and then the career that way you get them individually rather than all at once I have to do this because I had to delete the podium from one house, now it's not available to "purchase."

Lastly, is it normal to get wants to be friends with pets? The whole household gets that want for Alegra (she's the only pet at the moment, but Chester is friendly to all the wolves and I think he's gotten that want with some of the other wolves that have stopped by). They also get wants to command Alegra to do the tricks she's learned. I don't know what's normal and what isn't is this game. All those sound normal.

Yes, the Secret Society members will respawn. If you want to avoid a population explosion, you might want to use the nossrespawn, which will minimize the number of new Sims created. It will recruit Dormies first and only make new ones if absolutely necessary.

It's even worse when half the kitchen burns down because the family couldn't afford an alarm and the toddlers couldn't use the phone to call the fireman.
Stupid nanny sat there in an armchair and watched it burn!

Well, I had a third student have the problem too. I think she was a Townie teen who was friends with a controllable Sim who got the want to have her go to college. I don't remember her having the problem before Pets, but it was definitely there after!
But I got her through, moved back to the hood, and married to her double lightningbolt boyfriend... who turned out to be a General with over 15K worth of stuff in his Inventory! Talk about hitting the jackpot!
They were able to move off her tiny vacant lot into a small house and adopt a kitten, and still keep the best of his stuff: fish tank, big stereo, dance sphere.
She's now thinking baby thoughts, but hasn't spun up a want yet... I like to wait so they get a big aspiration boost out of the whole thing.

<snip>Guess I should go post on the Saner LTW thread about letting elders of any aspiration throw family wants. You know, old fogies getting maudlin about their lack of children or wanting to be a dynasty patriarch and pass on the family business. Lots of elders start hassling their offspring about marriage and kids when they feel their end approaching.<snip> My elderly widow Sim wants: 1) Relative gets engaged 2) Relative gets married 3) Have a grandchild. The 1st and 3rd are most likely, with 2 daughters on campus and a married son.

I'm with Pes on this one. Besides, what is your toddler doing out of his/her room? Kid should be drinking smart milk and skilling. I like to let my toddlers run out in the road. Makes it harder for the nanny to harass them. Maybe I'll put Echo's sandpile on the far side of the road so they have a reason to cross.

You can use "make me smart" from the macrotastics controller and let the kid live on dog food. I'm kind of tempted. Then I really could lock the nanny out of the house...
Actually, "rotten dogfood" should be added to the "noeatcrap" macro. Baby barf is really nasty...
