Tina G and dracine,  When I try to install the pre-order items I end up with empty/corrupt package files. Sad  This is with both Sims2packinstaller and with the official sims 2 package installer.

I'm guessing the Life Stories careers (game developer and entertainer) are the same as those in Seasons, so if we install seasons we should dump these?  Can anyone confirm that?

Seasons doesn't have the Entertainer career, it does have a Gamer career, with a similar job icon but I believe this is different then the Game Developer Career from Life Stories. As far as I can tell it's safe to use all the Life Stories stuff in Seasons, except for maybe the gift box.

That being said, the makeup lag screen thing for me definitely started happening with Pets.  I have not added anything new since installing Pets, and whammo I got hit with this horrendous lag in only that screen with or without custom content.  The minute I start adding makeup to my sim, my sim starts lagging the screen tremendously.  Funny how adding clothing or hair doesn't do it, it's only anything within the makeup tab that does it.  If I put the makeup on and then rapidly switch hairstyles, I don't even get that lag, even though it's just as close as when I'm just sitting there merely looking at the sim on the makeup screen (not even making any changes, just LOOKING at it).

So there's something seriously screwy going on now, and it needs fixed...

I had been playing just before getting pets (was making sure things were good for install of pets)  and I had the lag with all expansions up to open for business, so definitly not a pets issue with me.  It's been laggy with OFB and possibly earlier expansions.

Yeah, I don't have any lag at all in bodyshop.  You'd think it's the same content, there would be lag both places, but there isn't.  So there's definitely something different going on...

No lag for me in bodyshop either.

I was playing today and discovered it's laggy like that with no custom content.   I don't think it's a pets issue,  I'm not sure if my game has been like that from the beginning with no expansions or at what expansion it started.  I know it did that with open for business, but can't recall if it was like that before open for business.

DeathKat has been recreating Sims1 walls here if that helps

I've come across that link several times now, but everytime I try it I can't get into it.

If you ever manage to finish this project, I'd be interested in obtaining the completed, populated neighborhood.

I have actually been considering getting in touch with the people that have done the current sims 1 recreations, and getting them together and maybe turning this into an "Unofficial Expansion".   I'm going to be doing this for myself either way, but i'm going to be going further then just putting down the houses in a neighborhood.  What i'm hoping to do is duplicate it as close as possible.  Recreating the sim families that were in sims 1 (personality. looks, etc.)  I'll be taking Melly_sims current lots and updating them using all the expansions we have now. With Pets out now there is alot of stuff that can be used now.  Families like the cat lady can have her cats and dogs.   Nightlife and Open for Business neighborhoods can be used for old town, downtown etc.  I also have SimCity 4 so i'm thinking of creating new neighborhood terrains as well.  With the addition of some custom content I figure at this point I could get about 95% accuracy.

oooh ok this doesn't help you, but if you redo claire charmings house can you please post it here thanks!

If you go to this member page at Mod The Sims 2, http://www.modthesims2.com/member.php?u=116631

"Melly_Sim" has done excellent recreations of all the houses from Sims 1 Original, Hot Date, Unleashed, and had just started work on Vacation lots.  Smiley

At Sim Estates 2, Family Page http://simestates2.planetthesims.gamespy.com/families.htm  You will find all the families from Sims 1 and the houses they lived in recreated.
108  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Recreate The Sims 1 in The Sims 2? on: 2006 October 27, 02:26:35
I'm in the process of recreating the Sims 1 for Sims 2.  I've downloaded all the Sims 1 stuff from Mod The Sims and the family/houses from Sim Estates 2.  But I was wondering if there are any other sites that offer Sims 1 recreations for Sims 2.

Thanks in advance for any help Smiley

I think the reason for this is that hairs/clothes are cached for faster loading in the future (you'll notice it takes longer the first time you load a page full of new things), whereas makeups aren't, so are always loaded from disk every time.

It's not really an issue with load time.   If you go to the makeup category, scroll through all the choices, they should all be cached to memory at that point.  If you sit there, it will remain laggy.  It's like some other process is running while in that category and it's using most of the system resources.   If you delete the cas thumbnails, go to face/hair, yes it will take a short time for the first page of hairs to load up, but after that the game isn't laggy.

Even if makeup is never cached to memory, when you go to makeup, it should load the first page of all the choices, and if you sit there, there is no loading of anything, so it shouldn't be laggy.  The more I think about it, it really is like the game is doing some kind of constant checking/updating when in that category.

I'm hoping one of the great minds here has an explanation and solution to the problem. Grin   I have alot of makeup files that I would really like to have in game, but the game literally slows to almost a dead stop if I go to the makeup category.  I have it trimmed down at the moment, but even still it's very slow and choppy.

When going to the makeup category in create a sim (Step 4),  The game lags terribly.  What is it about makeup, brows, glasses etc that causes the lag.  I can have 100's of eye colors and hairstyles/hair meshes and Step 3: Hair & Face doesn't lag at all.  But if I add a small number of colors to each of the different makeup categories the game slows to a complete crawl.  Both steps show the sim face close up.

I love you, Kralore!!  I put my hacks back in the game and the lot loaded without problem!  I'm going to test all of them to make sure but it looks like that was the problem.  I'm going to set up a shrine in your honor, thanks so much!  Cheesy

Now, I just have to figure out which hack it was...
Smiley  Your very welcome....Hopefully it won't take you too long to find the problem hack.

What I did was take about 5-10 of the hacks/mods, put them back in, see if the lot loaded. If it does, take them out, put them in a temporary folder, and take 5-10 more,  at some point you will end up with the lot not loading, and you know it's one of the 5-10 hacks that are there.  Let me know if/when you find the culprit.

It's something nikita can check into though.  Might fix the problem.  Myself, I always make a point now of removing stuff like that from my lots before I add a new expansion.  And it's very possible it wasn't the debugger, it was quite some time ago, but I am sure it was a game hacking object that was the problem.  I had quite a few at that time.
114  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Game Crashing, Sims 2 Exception Log attached on: 2006 October 21, 20:11:20
The Lot Debugger never becomes incompatible with expansion packs, unless something really freaky happens, because it is an invoke-only object.

What would cause the behaviour I saw?   I know for a fact it was the debugger.  With the debugger object on the lot, and debugger package not in downloads, the lot wouldn't load, but with the package in the downloads, lot would load, as well with debugger object deleted/sold from the lot, the lot would then load.   Just curious.

Hopefully this doesn't sound too confusing.  I had the same problem when nightlife came out.  I had several custom lots that wouldn't load.  I was able to find the problem.   The first thing we are told when installing a new exp. is to backup and remove the custom content in our game.  This was actually what caused the problem.  The lots that wouldn't load, had the insiminator lab object and the ffsdebugger object physically sitting on the lot. (ffsdebugger turned out to be the one causing the problem).   I had removed the package files for these two from my downloads because they were incompatible with night life. As soon as I put back the ffsdebugger package file into my downloads,  the lot loaded up.  I'm guessing what happened was, the lot had a reference to the ffsdebugger object, but didn't find the code to use it, so the lot froze up during loading.  I loaded up the lot, deleted any hack objects from the lot (insim, ffs etc)  saved the lot,  removed the packages from download folder, and reloaded the lot fine.
