2976  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Nightlife bugs on: 2005 September 14, 00:59:10
Hmm, that's never been my experience. I know some of the early screenshots showed a mass graduation ceremony, but with the game as shipped it's always been one sim graduates at any given time and that's a playable sim you've played (or cheated Wink ) through to graduation. In my experience the young adult townies/dormies just stay in the college town and are students forever unless you have an adult graduate (or dropout I suppose) in the main town move them in or marry them, in which case they become adult graduates, I believe in a random major and get the 6 wants and 2 locks.

1)  Move-in option for a UNI student is gone when I try to move him in with his Adult Pregnant fiance in the neighborhood. (Hey, it's time he leave UNI and be a man!!  He knocked the girl up!!  Wink )

1.) You will need to get him out of college by dropping out or graduating.

Is this just for playable students or any students? Can we still move in non-playable dormies when the playable sim graduates and goes back to the normal town? Or do we have to first move them into a residental or greek lot, thus making them playable, and play them through to graduation?

Corrupted lot & cellphone - does this always happen? we haven't been able to reproduce this, so perhaps there are better reproduction steps?  it may be related to the greek amnesia problem though, which has been fixed

Pescado first reported that bug and I think he was the first person to find it and look into it. I haven't experienced it yet (thankfully) but I've seen other people who claim to have.

Yes that was it, thanks. Granted there is some "that's not a bug, that's a feature" stuff on there, but it's a fairly comprehensive list.
2980  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Nightlife: Censor Blur won't die!!! on: 2005 September 13, 21:06:03
Actually, it is because we are blamed for practically everything.

Well, that's how customer service goes, and I say this as someone who had worked in customer service for several years. To all of us end users, as our point of contact, you are all of Electronics Arts and Maxis. It's nothing personal and obviously no one is mad at Tom because we don't know you. People are just frustrated with problems with a game they otherwise enjoy and would prefer to work without problems. Smiley

The internet is a magnet for drama and emotions run high. I know I've certainly got caught up in it on multiple occasions. :p I also admit to not having the best opinion of Electronic Arts or huge corporations in general and I kind of remember the good old days when some geek in a basement was making games because he loved doing it.

But no one hates you as a person. Okay well maybe Pescado does, but he hates everyone so it's nothing personal. Wink

Is there a centralized list of bugs that cause the "huge fireball from outer space?"  Meaning crash bugs, jump bugs, things being deleted, etc.  Please, nothing "design" related, because we all have different opinions on how the game *should* work (and I can't fix those anyhow).

There was a huge bug list I came across recently on the BBS with workarounds listed for each, of course I can't find the damned thing now. Anyonw have a link?
2982  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: So what's been fixed in NL on: 2005 September 13, 20:46:57
Tom: The missing icon bug is caused by the objects.package from the University CD (not the one from the TS2 CD) getting corrupted somehow. Copying that file from the CD compressed.zip file on the CD to Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 University\TSData\Res\Objects does fix the problem. I don't know if that file is supposed to be modified ever or not, but I noticed when it gets corrupted it does have a later modified date and different file size than the one on the CD.

Some people have connected this bug to the remote controlled car and I think the objects.package file references it so I suppose it's possible. Basically the symptoms are that your icons dissappear and end up blank without pictures and when the sims come home their promotions don't get registered and they don't seem to get their pay either. There's been a lot of discussion about it on MTS2, some here, and I would imagine on the BBS. Some people, like myself, have had this bug numerous times, others never have so it seems to be related to how people play the game, like perhaps some people use the remote controlled car and others don't.

Okay well that's all good news pretty much. Any chance for a list of what was fixed either on Sims2.com or on the Nightlife CD?

I've always used Clean Installer to find duplicates. Anything shaded in pink IIRC is either a dup or empty package. Dups will also have the same MD5#, which is sort of a digital fingerprint. So even if the copy was renamed, if it's essentially the same file it will still have the same MD5#.

With regards to fixing the Greek level 6 bug with Nightlife or for that matter fixing any University specific features, I doubt it will. The reason I say this is Nightlife was created so that it only requires the main T2S game and can be installed with or without University. The only way they could fix something University specific that doesn't exist at all in the main game is to include that functionality, or at very least the basic code, with Nightlife. We know they aren't going to include all the University functionality and features because that would kill any remaining sales of University. It's possible they could include the code somehow and just not enable it, but as rushed as they seemed to be with these games and expansion packs, I somehow doubt they'd spend time on something like that.

Supposedly they are now claiming, contrary to what they have said in the past, that there will be a patch for University. That along with user created fixes like J.M.'s and TwoJeff's are probably the best we can hope for. I also expect that the Greek Amnesia fix will be far from the only hack that doesn't work with Nightlife either.

Edit: I just saw MaxoidTom's reply in the other forum and apparently at least with the Greek Amnesia bug (which is different than the Greek level 6 pledge bug) they actually have modified the underlying code so that Nightlife will fix it. So it seems it's possible with other University bugs too but there's no official list and of those who currently have the game I haven't seen any reports of which existing bugs it does or does not fix so I guess we will just have to wait. Supposedly, some people in the US should start getting the game today.

Well the games not even out yet in most places, but some Brazilians (where it apparently is out) are already reporting bugs.

For those of you who cannot tolerate going to the BBS (believe me, I was fighting my gag reflex) I'll cut and paste

after I installed nightlife (brazilian edition) all my 16 friends from one family disappeared... i had to become friends with lots of people all over again... i had friends since the college years

Did anybody try hiring the matchmaker gipsy yet? When I called her she just went to my yard and played with her crystal ball - Nothing else happened...I did try talking to her, but all I got were the usual "chat", "dismiss" and "something else I forgot" you get when talking to any service NPC such as the paperboy.
No option to buy anything, even after I increased my relationship with her...
2987  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: what to remove from downloads folder before installing nightlife? on: 2005 September 13, 01:17:02
Hahah, I've been here and there but kinda' fed up with the boards since I told Rennie where to stuff it and some rather unpleasant MTS2 incidents before that. And yes that nanny is scary as hell, I reinstalled the game and am trying to make new sims with more realistic less cartoony faces (ugh, plastic surgery for every townie) and I think I went overboard making her look old and mean. heheh

Anyhow I figure I'll give Nightlife a shot, even though it wouldn't have been my first choice. The next addon for having your sims start your own business appeals to me much more but that's a ways off. I'm just hoping we can avoid the constant crashes and having to check every all the darned custom content through trial and error to see what works with the episode and what doesn't that happened with University. Sad
2988  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: what to remove from downloads folder before installing nightlife? on: 2005 September 12, 19:11:01
I could end up being wrong on this, but I don't see how the new meshes and recolors that work fine currently would cause problems with university. I know they had the whole update your recolors to the episode compatible format thing before university, but I thought I remember someone from Maxis (Tom?) say that the changes made to the recolor format would be used for all future expansions from University on.

The meshes did come later but I don't see how they'd cause problems except that they might lack new functionality if the expansion patches some existing objects, like how a new computer or bookcase cloned off those objects pre-university would work but not have the college options after university was installed.

Anyhow, I guess we will find out in a few days. :O
2989  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: The Mysterious Choking Death on: 2005 August 31, 00:04:51
People most commonly refer to this bug as effecting pregnant sims, but it seems it can effect any sim with a disease (and the game seems to count pregnancy as a disease). I've had it happen to a little girl sim and a (non pregnant) adult male sim as well as to a couple of pregnant females. I've also had it happen before University and before adding any custom content save the alienware computer by Maxis (since that was released pretty much right with the game). It doesn't have to involve going to a community lot either but it does, in my experience, seem to happen soon after the home lot that the sim who chokes lives on is loaded.

I've read a lot of discussion about it and the best theory I've heard was that the 'sick' sim is somehow cured on another lot (a community lot or by being a guest at another lot you play) and then when you load their main lot, the game doesn't know whether they are sick or not and they just die. Now that may not be the case at all and I'm not sure how a pregnant sim gets cured, though I certainly have had pregancies that just spontaneously aborted somehow (and miscarriage is not a feature of the game so obviously it's some bug). I do know that it always seems to involve a sick and/or pregnant sim and having them on another lot and then going back and playing their main lot. I guess the safest thing to do is not go to a community lot if a sim is sick or pregnant and not save and play a different lot if you have a sick sim until they get well on their main lot.

I used to have a problem with seems getting sick as guests on lots I played from bad food, but J.M.'s no eating crap hack does help that. Also having jello around as a backup can help that since they'll always go for any good food over spoiled stuff.
