You could also just install the Harvesting Robot and fire-and-forget.

2  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: How can I make the Sims 3 recognize installed expansion packs? on: 2012 October 20, 04:41:45
I'm not having problems installing Pets anymore. That's all.

I had previously purchased The Sims 3, Ambitions, Late Night, and Pets via Steam. Sims 3 was installed in the "common" folder of steamapps, and the expansion packs and all the appropriate subfolders and files were installed in the Sims 3 folder as "EP2, EP3, and EP5". I alternately started the game through the launcher which would only recognize the base game, Ambitions, and Late Night (yes, I read Pescado's thread about it) and then attempted to open "TSEP05.exe" (Pets) directly, with the game only launching Late Night.

When downloading Pets in Origin, I changed the destination folder to the Sims 3 in Steam. Origin transferred the files, but were in an encrypted format that required me to open an installer that couldn't find The Sims 3 because according to EA, it could only ever be in one goddamn place.

I'm sure it would be fine if I installed everything using Origin, but I wasn't keen on exchanging one evil for another.

Thanks for your concern, yesterdame. I'm a little tired of discussing this, though.

I...guess I will.

Thanks, everyone. You've all been almost as much fun as the game itself.

Fat Obstreperous Jerk: Yes sir, He Who Does Not Suffer Fools Gladly (and who probably thinks I am crunchy and tastes good with ketchup).

SendmeLies: Look, all I want to do is fit a square peg into a round hole. How difficult is that?!

Madame Mim: I remember reading that, yes.

notouching: Did that, but when I run the installer, it can't locate The Sims 3 even though it's even located in the same directory and none of the filenames have been altered. I'm starting to wonder if there is something the Origin-installed program would use to identify itself to further installers, to prevent cross-compatibility. I wouldn't be surprised.

What's maddening about the whole thing is that a proper Steam-installed version includes, at first glance, all the directories and files needed, at least looking at EP2 and EP3 folders and comparing the file structure - it even apparently has the EP5 exe files, for all the good that does me.

Edit: Damn, doesn't work. Steam has failed me again for the last time.

I have Ambitions (EP2) and Late Night (EP3) already installed and recognized by the launcher and the game. I recently legally acquired Pets (EP5) and installed it to the same base directory, but the launcher will not recognize it, and when I attempt to run TS3EP05.exe manually, the game reverts to Late Night.

Is there a configuration file somewhere that I need to edit? Thanks.
8  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Is exact population control possible with Twallan SP? on: 2012 April 29, 22:57:11
Hey, folks.

I only have Awesomemod and NRaas/Twallan's mods running, and I see a number of other people are having lag issues, so at least I'm in good company.

AwesomeStory has its configurable population limit via console, but if there's something similar - via the city hall/NRaas menu, I can't find it - and going through all those lists tends to make my eyes glaze over.

I'm not making much headway with Google my search engine of choice, either.

It's definitely a population issue - Total Annihilation causes my game to go from lagging every few seconds to running continually for several Sim hours - and I am using the 3booter/FPS limiter combination, as well.

Any advice, internet?

Edit: Looks like it's City Hall->NRaas->Story Progression->General Options->Options: Sims->Maximum Residents. Guess that's that.

Thank you. That did it.

Hello. I am running The Sims 2 with University, Nightlife, OFB, Pets, and Seasons, all patches installed. I have the Directors Cut, syberspunk's mods, crammyboy's mods, and TwoJeff's mods. I also have the Inteenimator, so please just post that image macro and get it over with. CC is enabled. I have used HCDU to remove that which conflicts with Awesome as much as possible.

When selecting the "Take Job" option with adult Sims from a newspaper or computer, I get a "your grades need to improve" message. This happens with CAS and pre-installed ones. If Sims have a job, they go to it with no problems, but if they quit and look for a new one, they get the message.

Servos don't sleep - they wait.

Yes, I was just trying to be clever.

Baaah.

...er, it's a game console, so I assume it automatically shuts off when not in use. Do I have to manually reset the controllers first?
14  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Life Stories - Get the Stuffeths here! on: 2007 April 28, 06:18:22
Positive feedback has absolutely no use or value. Only the negative matters.

I'm using your pared down Career and Item hacks, but the game isn't letting me put a LS Career item into a sim's inventory. I pick up the Game Tester's "XBOX" in inventory mode, and it just gives me the descriptive mini-screen, and doesn't do anything when I try to put it in the bag. The other LS Items seem to fit just fine.

One other thing: I tried Skillinating Logic with it, and the sim quits using it after his Fun bar fills, with the Skill icon continually flickering on and off. The sim is a Serious one and always gripes whenever I make him use it, but does fine if I Macro/Concentrate him apart from the Skillinator. Isn't that supposed to happen automatically?

Okay, got any nonawesome hacks in your DL folder?

(Non-Awesome: Anything that isn't from J.M., syberspunk, twojeffs, or crammyboy)

Should we go ahead and picture a boot stamping on a human face - for ever?
17  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: The Fight Club: Now With More Shinyness on: 2007 March 06, 09:12:43
Would it be possible for watching Sims to tip the winner of a fight (for example, if they were entertained or was against someone they hated)?
18  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How do you kill pets? on: 2006 November 12, 03:05:55
I believe the reason is because humans are generally expected to be held to a higher standard than animals are.
