51  TS2: Burnination / Building Contest of Awesomeness / Re: Twooflower's Sucky Entry '07 on: 2007 July 05, 23:54:01

Fundamental Flaws
Visitors cannot be adequately confined to viewing deck without complete restructuring of stairwell

I thought I had planned well enough for visitor control, but apparently I missed something.  Would you mind explaining it for the non-awesome?  I would like to understand so I can improve my future houses.
52  TS2: Burnination / Building Contest of Awesomeness / Re: Tawanda takes a shot! on: 2007 July 05, 20:14:19
Duh, let the pointing and laughing begin. Embarrassed
Thanks Twoflower, but if I can't remember to log out and double check my links I guess that makes me totally unawesome. I'm only disappointed that now I can't use my blackmail scheme either. Tongue

No problem, TaWanda.  I just wish I had done it earlier for you (I found your house a few days ago), but I didn't realize that the link hadn't been fixed already.  It might have been interesting to see how your scheme worked out.   Wink
53  TS2: Burnination / Building Contest of Awesomeness / Re: Tawanda takes a shot! on: 2007 July 05, 15:01:34
I fiddled around with the address and found Tawanda's page, and then I found Tawanda's house.  Probably too late, but maybe not.
54  TS2: Burnination / Building Contest of Awesomeness / Re: Ambular's Awesome House Redux on: 2007 July 02, 20:13:33
Thanks Amber!   Cheesy  I look forward to trying it.

0.5 for aesthetics. We were not fans of the patchwork thing.

Well crap, Rohinas can't even be bribed with gnomes to tolerate patchwork.   Wink

This is one of the best designs in the contest, although the exterior needs a more unified architectural theme (I realize that mixing styles has been a trend in architecture over the past couple decades, but that doesn't mean the results don't look bad).

Unlike a lot of the designs here, you could take this one to an architect and end up with an actual house that was both buildable and livable. However, for gameplay purposes many of the rooms are way too big, especially the bedrooms. If you've ever played the Capp house, you know what a drag it is to have to schedule every sim activity well in advance to allow for the trek from one part of the lot to another. Heh—I had a homeless CAS family in Veronaville (they didn't have enough money to finish construction of their own house) so I moved them in with the Capps, and used the Capp fortune to add a third floor to the mansion. That made for some interesting game play, especially when it was time for work or school.   Tongue

Oh well, I'm sure you're right about the commute time to school and work from the upstairs.  I'll try to scale down next time.  It's hard for me to maintain a balance between having enough room and too much.  I always err on the side of building too big.  Next year I'm going to have to build on a 2x2 lot.
56  TS2: Burnination / Building Contest of Awesomeness / Re: Ambular's Awesome House Redux on: 2007 July 02, 18:21:52
Amber, I really like your house.  It looks nice and affordable, as well as playable.  Do you have it available anywhere else for download?  I can't download most stuff from MATY anymore. Sad  I keep getting a WordPress error -- whatever that is.  I am non-awesome about such things.
57  TS2: Burnination / Building Contest of Awesomeness / Re: Twooflower's Sucky Entry '07 on: 2007 July 02, 04:32:12
Thanks for the help  Grin I've just finished and she runs sweet.

Cool, I'm glad to hear it works for you. Smiley
58  TS2: Burnination / Building Contest of Awesomeness / Re: Twooflower's Sucky Entry '07 on: 2007 July 01, 12:20:21
The "platform" (indoor stage) can also be used to do a split stairwell, without the wall distortion effect or need for building tricks. One possible issue is that it is only 4 steps high, not 8, and has no freely usable space below it.

You're right, Jordi.  With some rearranging of stuff, the stage could be used to do a split staircase for anyone who wanted to build a similar house without building cheats.  That would also open up many other wallpaper choices for that wall. Wink
59  TS2: Burnination / Building Contest of Awesomeness / Re: Twooflower's Sucky Entry '07 on: 2007 July 01, 11:46:20
I want the pattern for the gnome, not some lame dishcloth.

I'll take it you're a knitter, then.  Wink  My apologies for the lame dishcloth offer.  I've never written a pattern before (gnome is my own design), but I'll do my best to write it up for you.

Twooflower I really like your entry. I'm trying to recreate it as I don't have Family Fun but I'm having problems with the stairs - how did you do the stairs so you can have space underneath and at the side?

Vilia, Eleonora is correct, except that the 2x2 room is 8 'clicks' high.  I hope that helps.

Ooooh, very pretty house and such cute bribes!  XD

Thank you, Amber.  Kiss

LEVEL 3x3 lot  Grin
$138,455

-3.5 baths (1/2 bath for guests right off the Vomitorium) -- all baths have BUY
-Perimeter fence secures lot from hole-digging critters and wandering guests
-Reasonable amount of trees/shrubs.  Most trees provide leaves for compost, but could be replaced if less raking is desired
-Compost bins located in front and back yards

-Mail table directly inside perimeter fence
-Theft-proof gnome-kicking area (or replace gnomes with The Cheat or flamingos if desired)

-Double modular staircase to ease stair traffic
-2 small storage areas (under and next to staircase) to store Awesome Stuff like the Lot Debugger
-Sun room could be made into a covered hot tub area, observatory (probetarium), or an additional greenhouse

62  TS2: Burnination / Building Contest of Awesomeness / Re: Official Scoring & Submission Rules on: 2007 June 30, 23:58:52

23:59 Malaysia time, I presume, so...not quite 16.5 hours to go, as of this posting?  Am I wrong?

I hope you're not wrong.  Thank you for replying quickly.  I'll keep working on it.  I just have to do some photo-editing and write up the info.
63  TS2: Burnination / Building Contest of Awesomeness / Re: Official Scoring & Submission Rules on: 2007 June 30, 23:28:04

UPDATE: Due to Ambular's rules-lawyering, you get until the end of the day.

So can you define the end of the day for me?  I have a potential entry.  I have to know when the last minute is.  Tongue  I have bribes.
64  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Micro campus on: 2007 May 21, 08:35:42
I love your lot --  what a wonderful idea!  I just hate loading community lots so much.  My poor sims never get to go anywhere.  Wink

Maybe you could try uploading it to one of those free online storage/sharing type places.  I have a free 1 GB account at box.net, and I've seen that a lot of people use www.4shared.com.
65  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Finish studying dammit! on: 2007 March 22, 00:49:53
I find clicking "macro ... concentrate" allows them to continue studying from the bookcase without the ADHD behaviour.  I have to catch them while they are actually reading though, sometimes they've already closed the book and then I have to wait for them to put the book away/down, pick it up again, sit down with it and open it before I try to catch them again while they are reading it.

I'm glad you shared this, because I've had the same problem.  I love to use skillinator, but it seems inefficient with the reward bookcase.  I'll try "concentrate" now.
66  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Sagesims? on: 2007 March 20, 11:59:25
I can't resist jumping in here to say how bad I miss Sagesims as well.  At one time I had a lot of their elder clothing, but lost all my downloads around Christmas.  I was so disappointed when I looked for the site again and it was gone.  If anyone has these that they would be willing to share, I would also be very grateful.   Kiss
67  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Odd things I noticed about Seasons on: 2007 March 01, 21:58:07
I noticed a very odd problem with the Ottomas family (from the bin).  The mother Samantha was already pregnant and gave birth to twins.  They're not related to their father.  Their "father" is Patricia Wan (O'Mackey -- she married Gabe), who Samantha has not even met.  Shocked   While amusing, it seems to be a serious glitch, possibly a VBT.
68  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Energizer problems post Seasons on: 2007 March 01, 21:20:06
I noticed similar problems -- that sims stay in well beyond when the bars were full green, but then eventually got out autonomusly.  Fortunately, the aspiration level held out that long.  Their temperates were elevated, though.  Who knows, this could be a new Seasons "feature".  Tongue  It's just one more micromanagement issue to have to babysit Sims in the energizer now.
69  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: WTF? Seasons ate my Pets on: 2007 March 01, 08:04:41
Seasons ate my Pets too.   Angry  Thankfully Seasons works fine after reinstalling Pets, but WHY did that happen?   Tongue
70  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Gender-reversed Pleasantview on: 2006 December 14, 21:07:51
Marhis, I downloaded this a few days ago and have had a lot of fun with it.  There had been no problems, just a lot of renaming and fixing townies with bald heads and/or default clothing.

Just thought I'd share a couple of highlights.  Since Mortimer is now Morticia, I decided to age her back to adult when she married Dion Caliente:

I thought the moustache was a nice touch.  Wink

She looks a little better after a makeover.

Oh yeah, and some Risky Woohoo made the Dawn Lothario - Cassius Goth wedding a little more interesting since she is pregnant with Niels Caliente's baby.

Anyway, I just want to thank you for sharing this neighborhood.
71  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Zombie Apocalypse: BRAIIIIIIINS! on: 2006 December 10, 07:33:24
This is just way too awesome!  It's even beyond the level of awesomeness I have come to expect here.   Shocked

When I played the Apocalypse Challenge, I zombified most of the townies.  I'm looking forward to checking out the neighborhood with this installed.  So far the zombies have only been stealing newspapers and kicking over the trash can.  Brain-eating seems like more realistic zombie behavior.  Okay, now I'm excited and just a little bit nervous.  I'm not a big fan of zombies, so it should actually be a little scary for me.  Still, it's so cool that I just have to try it.
72  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Am I alone with this problem? on: 2006 December 10, 05:55:10
I have had problems with stages causing game crashes too, so I try not to use the stages if I can use foundations or dummy levels instead.  They seem to be useless for most building projects..  Here is a very interesting tutorial and thread at MTS2 about them that may be of some use to you:

73  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: no instant love more like no love EVER! on: 2006 November 08, 18:42:13
I had the same problem in my game with noinstantlove.  The playable sim was the one that didn't even have a crush, although he did have a one bolt attraction for the girl and a 100/100 relationship on his side.  She already had a crush on him early in the relationship.  I eventually overcame the problem by having him drink some love potion.  I was surprised it worked, but it did.  After a few romantic interactions with the girl, he finally fell in love.  I was just glad there was still a way to make it work.

If you would like to know what I did with your snapshot, here is a link to what I have done with it.

Beware BBS link
I really appreciate you for making this!  I have it bookmarked to share with the next whiny person who can't open one of my uploads because it's a .rar file.   Roll Eyes

I'm a little slow noticing there is an update OFB, but I'm so glad.  This was one hack that I really missed.  Thank you! Smiley
