1  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Where does the game generate names from? on: 2017 October 29, 09:31:10
Aha! Thank you. Your honourary name shall be Mayhew Knight, as decreed by my new randomiser. Gratefully, Sheila Tse.

ETA: I have attached it in case there are other fans of Maxis names.
2  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Where does the game generate names from? on: 2017 October 28, 12:38:41
Is there a way to export the list of weird and wonderful Maxian names from somewhere? This replacement mod led me to try poking around in C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection\Fun with Pets\SP9\TSData\Res\Catalog\Bins, but opening the .bundle file in SimPE didn't leave me any wiser...

The reason I want to find the names is so that I can put them into a randomiser and rename a few townies that all recently generated as either Alec or Brittany. I have about 5 of each and it's boring! I specifically want to re-christen them as something uniquely Maxian, so using an online name randomiser is out.
3  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Only two visitors on hobby lots on: 2017 May 30, 20:40:45
That was a good idea but the same thing happens in a test neighbourhood. I gave a bunch of townies the required enthusiasm points for membership and they got the pop-up notification that they have access to Sue's Secret Kitchen. But when my sim travelled there - only two other visitors. One of them was one of the townies that I had given membership to (I visited three times and it was always him and one of the burglars - not sure if that's significant). None of the others showed up and the original two didn't leave, so same as in my main hood.  Huh
4  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Only two visitors on hobby lots on: 2017 May 29, 13:59:32
No, that's not it. My graphics card certainly is a bit senior, so I already have that line in userstartup.cheat. It does the trick on all other types of community lots; for some reason hobby lots are different.
5  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Only two visitors on hobby lots on: 2017 May 27, 15:14:58
Ever since installing AL, my hobby lots always only have the hobby maven and two other sims on them. No more arrive, and the original two don't leave. It makes visiting hobby lots even more boring than it already is. I read somewhere early on that it's just because my hood doesn't yet have sims with enough hobby points to visit the lots, but I'm giving that explanation up now... however many years later! Many of my playables definitely have enough points, yet no one comes.

I have ruled CC out as a cause, and it shouldn't be a hardware issue as I'm able to load other large community lots with plenty more than two sims on them. I have the Ultimate Collection and playing on Windows 7.

Any ideas appreciated.

Thanks - you were right, Avast did complain about that too. I've taken the risk! Tongue
7  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Character Portraits on: 2013 January 13, 15:32:13
Many thanks for re-uploading thaT, Mootilda. However, Avast! tells me the file is infected by a trojan called Win32:Crypt-OAU. Anything you can do to help?

Right, thank you. ARRing is starting to emerge as a very alluring option, then. Tongue
9  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Still playing with TS2 anyone ? on: 2010 June 14, 15:56:10
I tried TS3 for about a week when it was first leaked, but it didn't immediately grab my interest like TS1 and TS2 did. I'm sticking with TS2 for the time being, possibly for good. Smiley I started my current neighbourhood in 2005 and it's still a huge work in progress. I play extremely slowly and like Lum, still have a ton of things I haven't tried.

I had thought I'd love the design tool on TS3, but it turned out to be extremely frustrating. I like building my own houses, but I guess part of the fun for me is matching up weird, useless Maxis wallpapers and floors with even weirder, useless Maxis furniture. TS3 has too much choice!

Also, while TS2 only has two bodytypes and four hair colours, I think TS3 sims still look more alike than TS2 sims. *shrug*
10  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Questions about EADM on: 2010 June 14, 15:17:01
I wonder if anyone could offer me a bit of advice. I'm planning to get the H&M stuff pack from the EA Store, but to install it, I would have to use EA Download Manager. I have a few questions:

1. A RYG FAQ tells me that if I don't have SecuROM on my computer yet, it won't piggyback in with EADM. Am I reading that correctly?

2. If I install H&M stuff with the download manager, will I be able to play unconnected from the internet? Will it want to phone home every time, and if so, can I humour it for a while but then turn the connection off?

3. I'm currently playing with all EPs and a no-cd crack for AL. Does the crack somehow pose a problem for digital downloads? Or would the H&M stuff pack just take AL's place as the latest installed game?

Thanks!

12  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: An alternative way of touristifying CAS sims? on: 2009 June 04, 14:05:05
Thanks for the tip! I don't have AL, but after consulting Inge I ventured to try the Teleporter anyway. Alas, it doesn't work either.

I've now burninated all the tourists-to-be that I had made in CAS and tinkered with - just in case - and made one new test sim in CAS. I teleported him onto a playable's lot, made him selectable and turned him into a tourist with the teleporter, and he left the lot. I next sent the playable on vacation, but the test sim still does not turn up at the hotel nor the community lots. Sad

I have no idea what is wrong. There shouldn't be anything preventing my tourists from appearing in the vacation hood - I checked the Visitor Controller and everything. The bellhop tells me that other sims are now going to start checking into the hotel, but no one ever comes. What to do?
13  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: An alternative way of touristifying CAS sims? on: 2009 May 31, 18:53:56
Ah, yeah, I did see that actually. The trouble is that I'm using something by Pescado (antiredundancy?) that only spawns one tour guide, one bellhop, one local etc. per vacation 'hood, but no tourists. So I don't have an original tourist family to infest. :/

ETA: Oh, but hang on. I could probably spawn a tourist with the gun. Duh. *runs off to experiment*
14  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / An alternative way of touristifying CAS sims? on: 2009 May 31, 17:28:06
I'm trying to make my own locals and tourists for a clean vacation 'hood. The locals were easy enough to make with Argon's townie brick, but as the brick can't be used for tourists and the NPC gun can't be used at all, apparently, I'm stuck.

My studies tell me that EAxis borked the NPC gun at some point so that the relevant menu (Make Vacation Sim > Tourist) lists each and every townie/dormie/NPC ten times, and the two times I've tried it anyway, it made the game crash to desktop without an error message. This happened at roughly the three billionth click. Tongue So even if I had the patience to click away until I get to my intended tourist (I'd like to make about 20), I might not be able to.

So is there any other way to make CAS sims into tourists - in SimPE, perhaps? I couldn't find anything in the SimPE forums or tutorials section. Any help at all is muchly appreciated!

So ... I've never, to my knowledge, mounted anything (gah! More sexual innuendo!), so I'll stick with the disk.

I hadn't, either, but 'mounting' turned out to be quick and easy. Smiley Download Daemon Tools Lite from here, install, click the icon in the tray and find the iso file. Then you can browse the contents from My Computer just like you would if it was a regular CD. I'm almost certain it's easier than the other way.
16  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What's on YOUR Wish List? on: 2008 December 28, 09:43:27
1. Woohoo available on single beds, with an animation of its own.

2. Being able to take different sized & shaped snapshots like in TS1. I haven't stopped missing it even though I can't remember what good it was.

3. For some kind soul to fix the OFB bug where assigning uniforms makes the employees' faces lose all custom content and revert to a different face template.
17  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Decorative/Misc menu makes game crash on: 2008 November 28, 21:25:12
Oh, I see. I'll remove that one too. Thanks!
18  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Decorative/Misc menu makes game crash on: 2008 November 28, 18:54:34
I'm on Windows Vista, but that still did it! Cheesy I deleted a file called CEP-EXTRA_GardenRocks, although I don't know what is meant by "both" Extras folders, since I only have the one. Anyway, thank you so much! I was dreading a reinstall.  Smiley
19  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Decorative/Misc menu makes game crash - SOLVED on: 2008 November 28, 17:42:23
Help needed! In buy mode, whenever I click on the misc menu under decorations, the game crashes to desktop. The other menus work fine. It's not CC-related; I tried with the entire DL folder moved to the desktop. I've also tried deleting groups.cache, but that's where my expertise ends. :/

This is probably the same issue as I had a while back with one of the towel hangers ("The Towel on a Wooden Hanger by DecorCorp" - came with OFB), where the game would similarly crash with no error messages, whenever I tried to clone one of these hangers. At the time I only noticed it in one household, but I tried it with another family just now and it's definitely not just gone away magically on its own like I'd hoped. Sims can view the hanger and I can recolour it, but the eyedropper tool causes a crash. I "solved" this problem before by, heh, deleting the towel hanger in the household where I first noticed the problem - which also caused a crash unless I quickly saved and exited the household - but I haven't been furnishing any houses since then and forgot all about it. Until today.

Can it really be about the one towel hanger or is there a problem with all the items in the misc menu? I don't think I've ever had a problem with the game that didn't trace back to custom content and this is kinda scary.

I have all the expansions until Seasons, which I installed in September, plus one or two stuff packs. The crashing definitely started after Seasons, but everything's been just fine otherwise. I haven't installed any new hacks, and anyway as removing the DL folder made no difference, I don't think it's that either. I'm assuming the crash log I need to attach is the one called "Sims2Exception[date]"? Tell me if you need something else instead ... I have plenty ...

Any help at all would be really welcome. I have no idea what's wrong or how to fix it.  Sad
20  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: SimSheet (a sim-tracking program) [Now with Importing from SimPE!] on: 2008 November 27, 16:39:46
Hey! I was one of the more obsessive users of the late Sims2DB, until I got a new computer and carefully backupped and moved everything else TS2-related except my precious database. D: So this is fantastic news! Grin I play in a fairly strict rotation and generally like to be a big control freak with my game, but this notebook hell that I've been running lately isn't really cutting it.

I wouldn't mind the link to the 0.73 QA, unless you need to be super computer savvy to be of any real use in this project? My neighbourhood consists of ~600 slightly incestuous and ACR-ridden sims; I've been playing it for about three years and it's bound to have some interesting quirks. Smiley

Yes, seems to be alright now. Thank you!
22  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Romancemod causing attribute number out of range errors on: 2007 September 08, 09:31:28
So, I installed Pets and updated all my previously existing hacks, plus got a bunch of new, pet-related ones and twojeffs's ACR. I started getting attribute number out of range errors (the first one attached below). To my surprise I narrowed it down to the romancemod. I did get the Pets version, and then for safe measure I tried playing with the old OFB version, but the errors are still coming up. They mostly occur when my sims interact with visitors - almost all interactions apart from talking and arguing.

I can live without the mod, so this isn't an emergency or anything. Just thought someone might know what's causing it all. Apart from the attr. number errors everything's just spiffing.

I have Uni, NL, OFB, Pets and a couple of stuff packs (all patched). Here's a list of my hacks and mods:

FFS:
antiredundancy
coffecuphack
ffsdebugger
frontdoorhack
hugginghack
marriage-postmortum
noaplusspam
noautopetbuy
nocrybabies
noroadpillows
nostrayrespawn
notownieregen
togafix
wfsanity

other:
askrelshipstatus
quietpregnancy
riskywoohoo (syberspunk)
adultsgosteady
mortgageshrub
Insimenator
moveoutteens
teleportshrub
woohooteens (jenflower)

I might also mention that before installing the new EP I got SaraMK's empty template for Pets.

For all I know, it's something stupid that's actually my fault, but I don't know how to read the error log, so... Help yourselves to the attachment, and thanks. Smiley

I'm just gonna sneak in these babies from simpathetic.com before anyone else can...  Grin

These are from the Africa Inspired collection - "a collection of heir-dos in the africa inspired collection of whatever", as the creator puts it. They are *headwraps*. Can't imagine what's wrapped in there in the second one, though. A dinosaur egg?

This one is called "The Big Tease":

Here's the hilarious original site description... "I love big hair.. and these meshes from Guppy Sims were so inspiring, I had to make a lot of it." -- "10 recolours of Guppy Sims Mesh teased into a big mass of curls".  Grin I just love Simpathetic.
