1251  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Phone glitch on: 2005 November 24, 14:30:01
Yes, I have been playing him back in the main 'hood.  I rotate through all my lots, playing them 1 simday at a time (or two semesters for the YAs).  Ned had graduated, returned home, hit the top of his LTW career, sowed some wild oats, and then gotten married and settled down.  I'd definitely played him.

Ned is the one Angela was calling for, however I got him confused with his cousin in my earlier post - while Angela had met Ned, I hadn't bothered to build the relationship, as she already had 30 friends.  Since I've started playing with groups this week Angela has pushed that to 40 friends - and she still wanted to be friends with Ned.  Sheesh, how many friends does that woman need!  BTW, she's family in my game, not popularity.

It's academic now, as Ned has died of starvation.  He fell asleep after some casual woohoo with his wife (I use casual woohoo because I like the random pregancy option).  Just prior to this he'd been doing some body building, so was tired and stinky.  He woke up in the middle of the night due to hunger, and I thought he was heading to the kitchen to eat.  I switched my attention to another sim, who was about to go to bed.  Silly Ned went and used the toilet AND had a shower.  By the time he got to the kitchen it was too late.  He died in front of the stove.  It was the time taken for the shower that killed him - I guess you could call it 'death by hygiene'.  I woke his wife up and sent her to plead with grimmy, but by the time she was out of bed and made it down to the kitchen it was too late.

Next up on my lot rotation is the dorm lot.  I'll turn the phone ringer back on and see if Angela wants to stalk another sim who no longer lives there - and if she does, I wonder if that sim would rather be dead than make friends with Angela  Tongue
1252  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Phone glitch on: 2005 November 24, 08:00:12
I am so happy to have the new improved phonehack.  Before this was updated, I had all the phones set to not ring.  Now I've turned the ringer back on for all my lots and have been enjoying playing with the groups feature of NL.

Except for my dorm.  I had to turn the phone off again there.  Every day the same playable sim rings (Angela Broke, nee Pleasant).  I cancel the actions in a sim queue and get the sim to answer the phone.  To get this popup message: "I see Ned isn't at home, I'll call back later" - or words to that effect.

The problem is that Ned (Nina's boy with a townie) has graduated, and has been back in the main neighbourhood for a sim-week.  He has interacted with and been on group outings with Angela.  She should know he's moved back to the home neighbourhood.

Anyone got any ideas on how to make the game realise that Ned no longer lives at the dorm, so that Angela no longer keeps calling for him.

Failing that, I may have to give in to Angela-cidal impulses - but I've worked hard to resist those urges since the first day I played the Pleasant lot, it'd be a shame to give in now that Angela has managed to last until elderhood.
1253  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: No Uni Invulnerability For Dormies on: 2005 November 24, 06:42:58
The dormies used to do that to me even before this hack, because they're filthy slobs.

I solved this problem by spawning the Sim Modder and changing all their neat points to max. It's not very student-like, but it does mean you're able to move around. It doesn't stop them with the OCD research, but they do put their book back on the shelf instead of leaving it lying at their ass.

I pulled the hack out of my d/l folder, as I said before.  Without the hack the dormies have stopped the endless cycle of "get book out - sit & research - instantly stop - put book on floor - get book out - repeat - repeat - repeat, etc".  So the behaviour was caused either by the hack itself or the hack is conflicting with another hack I have.

I don't mind them leaving books out, as normally it's only a few books a day ... it was the looping behaviour, causing a situation like your picture.

While the hack was in the dormies kept trying to research as if that would satisfy their fun need, with it out they've gone back to watching tv to boost their fun.  And, more importantly, they are no longer blocking the bookcase with their silly cycle of behaviour.
1254  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: No Uni Invulnerability For Dormies on: 2005 November 23, 11:52:14
I've had to take this hack out of my game as I couldn't stand the books the dormies are leaving everywhere.

They're sitting there researching.  They stop because their fun has bottomed out, put the book down on endtable or floor, walk a few steps to the bookcase, grab another book and start research, put the book down because of their totally red fun, grab another book, repeat, repeat, repeat.  It's as bad as when they used to leave their assignments everywhere.  I once 'carpeted' the entire ground floor of a dorm with those assignments and made a good start on the upstairs before I got your hack that stopped the assignment spam.

It's been fun watching them head dive into their food and pass out on the floor.  I even managed a death - but I missed seeing grimmy.  Just noticed a replacement dormie and headstone for the dead dormie at the end of the footpath by the portal.  She must have died as soon as she stepped back onto the lot.

I'm pretty sure once something is in the dresser it stays there.

Is there any way to clear out a dresser?

I have a couple of houses that have had 5 generations through them now.  That's 5 generations of sims who have done a bit of career hopping ... and there's a LOT of work outfits and other clothing I have to look through if I want to change clothes (even with NL's new system of choosing clothes from the dresser).  I'd really like to be able to spring clean those dressers.
1256  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Using Groups on: 2005 November 21, 13:21:36
I had never used groups before I read this post.  Then after reading this post I was playing a lot with a teen.  Her social was really low, so I formed a group of the 6 playable teens in my neighbourhood and they went out for a just-for-fun outing.

I sent them to Sugarcubes Bowling Alley (at the back of my mind was the idea of getting them to 'dance together' to help build up that all-important dance skill).  They started with dancing together, then I decided to let them kick loose and turned free will back on.  Normally I'm a very controlling player - my sims are not permitted free will.  But I figured a group of teens out for fun ... of course they should kick loose.  They had a blast.  I had a blast watching them, and I'll definitely be taking this group out again.

Thanks for the idea.
1257  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Hack request : Dance Together on: 2005 November 19, 23:18:10
I was wondering whether the introduction of slow dancing had been the reason why my teens can't dance together with adults/elders.  But my teens can dance together with teens who are flagged as family (siblings and first cousins), so it's clearly not a romantic interaction.
1258  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Hack request : Dance Together on: 2005 November 18, 23:33:32
Even though some of my teens do have the bust a move interaction available they don't get the Tsang Footwork scholarship. That's really messed up...  Sad

It's always been that way AFAIK.  The appearance of bust-a-move in the entertainment menu was a sign that the scholarship was close.  It's just that with dancing apparently taking longer to train now, it's not as close as it used to be.

I play my sims one sim day at a time, then move on to the next house.  Teen A invites Teen B over to train dancing.  Then I play Teen B's lot and Teen B invites Teen A over.  Then repeat the next simday.  I'll often see bust a move appear during the 3rd visit between them, and think great, I'm almost there.  But it requires at least one more visit to get the scholarship for both of them.
1259  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Hack request : Dance Together on: 2005 November 18, 22:41:06
I've noticed that since installing & patching NL, my teen sims can no longer 'dance together' with adult members of their household.  They can dance together with teen siblings (in the few households where I have more than one child), so obviously it's not a romantic interaction.  While the scholarship is useful, what I'm really missing is my teens not getting the ability to bust a move before they head off to uni.

I've tried using teens from other households or townie teens to get this skill for my teens who don't have siblings.  But it's frustrating when I keep running into the teen curfew (which normally I don't mind - most of the time I think 'ok you go home now, and my sim can go do their homework').

It would be really awesome if someone could make a hack to enable teens to dance together with adults again.

but you have to scroll through EVERY sim in every other neighborhood that you previously entered in order to get to the sim you are looking for

The search button allows you to pull out only the records for a particular neighbourhood, or whatever combination of data you choose to search.  Much less scrolling, particularly as you can search on several items at once - such as blond adult romance sims in neighbourhood MyTown with a turn-on of red hair (if, for example, you're looking for a date for your red-haired romance sim who likes blonds). You can then flick backwards and forwards using "previous sim" and "next sim" through the sims that matched your search criteria.  The reports generated are based on the sims that matched your search criteria.

It took me a while of using the database before I figured this out - at first I was annoyed because I couldn't work out how to print a report for just one household.

I understand wanting to have different neighbourhoods totally separate in the database as I'm the person who posted on Pegasys' forum about it.  I use separate folders for each neighbourhood, each one with the database unzipped into it.
1261  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Database IS ready on: 2005 November 08, 00:55:02
I've worked around the problem of multiple surnames by giving my households double barrelled names in the database, combining the family surname with the wife's maiden surname.  For example, I have three Gladstone families in one neighbourhood.  Lucas Gladstone married Kari McAuley.  So in the database I've recorded the household name as Gladstone-McAuley.  The others are recorded as Gladstone-Shankel and Gladstone-Frost.  The sims themselves are still surnamed Gladstone.

Actually I go into SimPE and rename my families (but not the sims) to match.  I rarely use the familyfunds cheat, but I'm hoping giving my families different names will make working with the familyfunds cheat easier.

I suppose I could have achieved the same effect by using Gladstone1, Gladstone2, etc.  But I grew up in a country town where people gossip in the style of 'Lucas Gladstone, the one who married the McAuley girl, well he .... ', so this seemed more natural to me.
1262  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: odd annoyance with LTW on: 2005 November 07, 11:29:40
I check the IQ on the baby controller just before I grow my toddlers up.  If the smart milk isn't stuck, I give them another bottle of it.  They rarely need another bottle of it.  In most cases my toddlers only get the one bottle of smart milk at the beginning of their toddlerhood.
1263  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Welcome, TwoJeffs! on: 2005 November 07, 11:27:19
I cared for my four children during their baby & toddler years.  It's only fair that when I get older they'll have to care for me in my senile years (although they'll claim that I've already reached my senile years Roll Eyes )

Of course every time they mention nursing homes, you could mention you've been looking at cat homes in need of bequests  Grin  Wouldn't work for me though, my kids know I don't have much in the way of assets to bequeath to anyone.
1264  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Identical siblings on: 2005 November 07, 01:32:17
The identical personalities are due to what Pescado calls the 'firstborn effect'.  My first ever sim was a family sim, and I had reached 9 of the '10 baby wants' when I realised it was happening - apart from a couple of children who were the second twin in multiple births, they all had the same personality.  Even though there was some gender/hair/eye variation, I felt like my sims were simply giving birth to the same child repeatedly.

As I understand it, its to do with the way the game determines the mix of the parents personality when a baby's personality is created.  The first child born to a family in each playing session will always have the same personality if you haven't created any other sims (eg in CAS) since you started up the game.  That's why twins have different personalities - one is the firstborn personality mix, the second twin is the secondborn personality mix.  (I'm hoping someone else will give a clearer explanation here).

You can avoid the identical personalities by randomising sim generation on the FFS Lot Debugger shortly before a sim gives birth, or by firing up CAS and creating then discarding a random number of sims before playing the lot where birth is imminent.
1265  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: odd annoyance with LTW on: 2005 November 07, 00:50:51
You could also have an adult or elder with high charisma give them lessons on the podium or the golf putter.

If the child has smart milk stuck they'll have 300 IQ, instead of the normal 100 IQ (ie 3 times the learning rate). If they're being taught on a reward object, they'll gain another 100 IQ for the duration of the lesson.
1266  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Has anyone been able to help poor Jane? on: 2005 November 05, 12:42:24
If a college sim has an unfinished assignment on the lot and you have macrotastics, the 'do homework' option will come up.  It simply means the sim has an assignment somewhere.

What a coincidence!  I just had one of my sims in a dorm with 2 other playable sims (also rampaging) drop out of her college rampage.  I couldn't get her to go back into the rampage, it kept dropping out.  She had an assignment at 0% on a table.  When I checked the chairs at the table concerned by trying to move them, the chairs were both stuck.  I used debug mode to reset the chairs and she was able to rampage on after that.

You might like to check if your student has an assignment that is on a table with stuck chairs.
1267  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Why should I clean a dirty bathtub? on: 2005 November 05, 07:53:50
When I first played the Pleasant house (pre-NL) I noticed Kaylynn wouldn't finish cleaning the house - she'd leave after making the girls' beds upstairs, no matter how dirty the rest of the house was.  At first I thought it was related to the scenario for the house - but then I realised it might be the diagonal doors on the girls' bedrooms.  After I did some structural alterations and made sure there were no diagonal doors, Kaylynn had no problems cleaning the whole house.

I have no idea if the diagonal door thing was fixed in NL, as I haven't played a house with diagonal doors since installing it.  Does the house in question have diagonal doors?

Thanks again Motoki  Grin

After Hairfish made her suggestion I did try fumbling with Bodyshop, but when I saw it made a duplicate item with my first attempt I thought I must have been doing it wrong somehow, as I didn't want duplicate items.  I don't want a bloated download directory so I gave up at that point.

I have a fresh almost empty d/l folder following a bad install of NL.  When I uninstalled & reinstalled I backed up my neighbourhoods, but I forgot to back up my download directory ... oops.  On the bright side, at least now I have the opportunity to start over and be much more choosy about what I download.
1270  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: IQ 400? on: 2005 November 04, 12:11:37
After I patched the game, I went to one of my lots with a toddler.  Checked the IQ - was reset to 100 after patching (which I expected).  Gave him smart milk, checked the IQ again, it was 360.  Only happened in one household though.  The other toddlers in my other lots only went to 300.  I'd post a screenie, but I can't remember which household it was.
1271  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Clothing equality mod - adult clothes for elders (updated 11-1-05) on: 2005 November 04, 07:55:41
This is awesome.  I remember my very first female elder.  She was gorgeous, super fit, and proud of her body (max fitness, workout and swim wants every day).  When she turned elder ... ugh!  If she'd been a real person I think she would have cried to see what she'd turned into.  I wish I'd had this mod of yours back then.  Too late for her now, that early neighbourhood was lost in a BFBVFS, but my current and future elders thank you.

Can I put a request in here Motoki?  It's sort of related, in that it's about modifying existing Maxis clothing.

I never use the table to change my toddlers into everyday wear.  After their first sleep, they spend the rest of their toddlerhood in their sleep clothes.  It would be nice to have a bigger choice of toddler sleepwear.

Is there a chance that you could modify the toddler everyday wear so that all the regular maxis toddler everyday clothing appears in the toddler pj menu?

HUGS.

My 12 year old cat, Tigger, was put to sleep this time last year.  I still miss him, even though I have two other cats (like you, one cat is older and the other is much younger).

I always thought the oldest cat would be the one to go first, for the last few years we've been saying 'this will probably be her last spring' ... but she keeps on keeping on.  It kinda took me by surprise when the second oldest cat was the one that needed to be put to sleep.

Tigger was in so much pain at the end and I was very upset to see him in that much pain.  I'm comforted by the knowledge that his pain is over.

Some relatives of mine (who don't have pets) couldn't understand why my adult kids and I were so upset - those relatives tried to tell me he was only an animal, but I knew better.  Tigger was a four-legged furry family member.

What do ypu mean...test? I didnt make a test i just noticed that twins with the same personalities have  learned skills differently cuz one grew uo in platinum

If that happened in my game, the first thing I'd do is check whether both twins still had their smart milk 'stuck'.  Chances are that one of your twins lost the smart milk stuckage along the way and therefore learned at a much slower rate.

My point is that there are other situations that can cause different learning rates for twins in the game - I wouldn't assume it was the platinum effect without further testing.

Wow, what an excellent Simming day I'm having.

First my copy of NL arrived by mail order, so I don't have to kick my daughter off the other computer to play NL and can play my own families.

Then I drop by the forum and see this  Grin  Grin  Grin  WHEEEEE!

I was going to run manicly around the house cheering then head in to the other room and share the good news with my daughter, but I see she already posted in this topic a few hours ago.  *Glares at Faizah for not telling her mother that TJ has joined MATY*

1275  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What's your biggest CAS family? on: 2005 October 30, 16:14:13
My Legacy-style neighbourhood started with 1 CAS sim in generation 1 - Adam.  I call it Legacy style because it's not a strict Legacy game, I'm not awesome enough to play a hackless game.

Adam had:
- 2 children (Bryce and Burak)
- 3 grandchildren (Crichton, Cahir and Cletus)
- 7 great-grandchildren (Denzo, Derek, Darren, Diana, Denham, Devora and Darcy)
- and the current E-generation is 8 great-great-grandchildren (Ellis, Emry, Ebony, Enoch, Edison, Emlyn, Ena and Emilia).

Yes, most of them are male.  Of the 20 babies born in this neighbourhood to date, only 5 were female, and I had to wait until the D-generation for the first girl.

The oldest of the E-generation is at college now, while the youngest of the D-generation is recently married and going to have his (only) child soon.  The A & B generations are dead, in the C generation Crichton is dead, his wife is just about at the end of her lifespan, and Cahir & Cletus and their spouses are elders, as is Denzo.

The families currently occupy 7 lots in their custom neighbourhood.  There are currently 27 living sims, 17 of these are Adam's descendants and the other 10 are spouses.  So far they've been marrying townies, dormies and NPCs; and 3 sims (Burak, Denzo and Devora) are the result of alien abductions.  I wanted to breed an alien line, with every male alien sim having an alien child.  Poor Burak was abducted many times before I realised that he wasn't going to get pregnant since Pollination Tech was one of his parents.  Now that I have NL I'll be able to make my alien line.  Ellis doesn't know it yet, but when he gets back from uni he's going to be doing some stargazing Wink
