TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How to uninstall DatGen?

Is there some reason that one would want to be sure to kill it dead? * KevinTMC still has DatGen installed, and it hasn't reached out and bit him yet...even though it's not extremely useful either...

Here's another vote for Magicmoon's recommendation, as if one were still needed. I've had these Allen ABQ-via-jfreddog skins in my game for a while (after digging through some similar threads here and trying a bunch of different ones), and they just seem natural now.
I also like Helaene's 1111, but for some reason was only ever able to find and download the "light" and "light asian" flavors.

*starts hugging/groping Elfie...just to free up Nailati, you understand...*Looking forward to seeing the final product, like everyone else. But we promise to be patient. (Don't we? I can't hear all of you... ) (I would also like to see a compare-and-contrast of this project and Amber's sometime. Not to have them competing with each other...just so I could have a better idea of the differences.)

TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Tutorial: Clean custom neighbourhoods + townie creation

Thanks for this. I was getting so confused by the other threads. I do have two questions. First: Browse to the UserData Neighbourhoods folder: The Sims 2\TSData\Res\UserData\Neighborhoods Rename N001 to N001-bak.
Should you then leave the folder like that indefinitely? Or change it back after you're done with step 2? Second: What if you plan to add a few custom townies, but not a whole batch of 30? Would it work okay to follow step 4a), and then plunk another half-dozen or so custom sims into the neighborhood as townies after all other steps have been completed?

I'm another compulsive zip and rar keeper... problem is, stuff that gets deleted from the game because it's crap doesn't get the corresponding zip or rar deleted. If my downloads folder ever went splodey I'd have a really nasty time trying to sort through what needs to go back in and what should stay out.
I have two separate folders for archiving zips and rars. When I install new content, the zip/rar goes into the Installed Downloads folder. When I rip it out, the zip/rar gets transferred to the Removed Downloads folder. When I rue its absence and put it in again...well, you get the picture.

Well, I bought your posts hook, line, and sinker.
But then, I was married to a short woman, who was wont to praise me for being able to reach high things all the time. (Come to think of it, that was one of precious few things I was regularly praised for...)
P.S. I think this thread is good and hijacked now. Is Pescado going to boot it? And does the fact that he was the prime instigator of the hijacking have any influence on the answer to that question?

Ye Olde Simmes 2 Archives: Dead Creators / Ye Olde Syberspunke Archives / Re: Testers Wanted: Teen Enabled Adult Wants And Woohoo Wants (Updated 6/27/2006

I've been running this hack in my game (PC version, Uni+NL only) and just the other day had two (adult) sims go on a big "Dirty Joke" jag. It was right when I started a new play session, and loaded up a household with two sisters in it. They kept rolling up wants to tell dirty jokes to each other...over and over and over again.
By the time they'd both had a good night's sleep, this went away. No other ill effects noticed. It's only happened the once so far.
I didn't suspect that this might possibly be related to your hack, but if I see anything else odd involving wants in my game, I'll report back. If it'd be useful.

Cause last I checked my SWAF was definitely NOT dangling, thank you very much.
Good thing. If it dangles too much you'll have to have it removed...and that's painful, believe you me. (I shouldn't have just been reading that thread about the poor Chinese fellow...)

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Car Repair Hack Request
|
on: 2006 September 21, 17:11:06

Since we're reviving this thread anyway, I'll put in a plug for the OP's idea. I think it would be great if cars occasionally needed repair, like various other household items. Especially if there were an element of danger involved in fixing it oneself...to the car, to the sim, or both.
"Do I fix it myself? Pay someone to fix it? Junk it? Just take a cab?" This might just qualify for the Sid Meier Seal of Approval as an "interesting decision" (something which is too often lacking in this game in the ordinary flow of gameplay, despite its other virtues).
I'm not at all interested in being charged to go anywhere, though. Visiting community lots can be painful enough...the last thing I need is a further disincentive.
Besides, anytime you think your sims ought to have to pay for something that the game doesn't charge for, you can always take the cash from them via familyfunds. Isn't as slick as having it done automatically, of course; but using anything that conflicts with Awesome hacks is even less slick.

I understood that, yes, but the people who recommend getting a DVI, saying "it looks so much better!", they never specify how it looks better, where they notice the difference. But, yes, I'm going for DVI in any case.
With DVI the image is crisper and doesn't need to be tuned, since the digital monitor is not having to try to sync up with an analog signal. It's the difference between the video card telling the monitor "light up a few pixels right around here", and it specifying precisely which pixels to do exactly what with. It's a more important consideration for text than for gameplay...but how many of us here don't spend hours at a time staring at computer text? And I don't know what monitors Pescado is looking at, but I don't get blurry masses involving any sort of excreted substance...but then, I also don't use any LCDs with a response time longer than 8ms.

DAC does a VERY incomplete job, leaving dangling SDSCs and even SWAFs everywhere. After you use it, you have to go to SimPE and finish the job by deleting all SDSCs and SWAFs.
Is this a problem even with brand new neighborhoods that have just been created? (Maybe I'd already know the answer to that if I was familiar with what SDSCs and SWAFs are...but I'm quickly out of my depth here. Which is why I am mourning the loss of the tutorial's usefulness.)

Also, some monitors (like mine) have an option to leave black bars top/bottom or on the sides as appropriate, to avoid stretching or interpolating pixels. That shouldn't be an issue if you have the game set to run at the LCD's native resolution, but thought I'd throw that out there anyhow.
And I know where you're at regarding making the switch. I had played around with Samsung and LG LCD models and wound up running back to my old trusty NEC CRT; but then a year and a half ago, I finally found what I was looking for. I luuurve my ViewSonic Pro Series display, running off the digital signal from my nVidia card. (I'm sure you already know that a digital input is a must; and that lightning-quick response time, such as these ViewSonics have, is important for games.) The color is, admittedly, still slightly less satisfying than a CRT; but never having to monkey with impossble-to-get-just-right screen geometry ever again, that is a wonderful thing. Calibration is such a snap with an LCD running off a digital signal.
