Hmmmm...you're right...I don't like Mary-Sue either, so I guess I should have put "I have an irrational hatred of the Pleasant family." Although, I do kind of like Lilth, she's mean.

Sounds like work is pretty boring!

I'm an "office manager" (glorified secretary) for a small construction company. The most challenging part of my job is finding ways not to flip out from boredom. If this computer could run TS2 I would install it in a nano-second. I'm glad that I have something as entertaining as this website to keep me occupied.
Sorry to have highjacked this thread. We return you to your regularly scheduled topic.

You know, I have an irrational hatred of Angela and I don't know why. I guess that's why it's irrational?  Cheesy

Well as has been discussed before, Maxis obviously had no freakin clue whatsoever what the definition of "family" or "romance" really means.  When they designed the game apparently to them "family" meant the want to just pop out one kid after another with no regard to actually raising/caring/nuturing or even interacting with the kid (of course until that kid is at Uni or grown and moved out, then they are obsessed with playing/talking/inviting over that same child that they just ignored for the last 25 days of its life).
When I first got the game the Broke household was the first one I played and I couldn't figure out what the heck was wrong with Brandi Broke; how could she be such a horrible mother whe she was a "family" sim? I put it down to trailer trash type of mentality only to find out that all family sims are that way.
And "romance" to Maxis is apparently just another word for "slut."

Funny you should mention this. I was playing last night and noticed one of the hairstyles I had downloaded at least a month ago, is gone. I went to change the appearance on one of my toddlers and the specific hairstyle I was looking for was no longer there. I haven't touched my downloads or altered them in any way but it's vanished.

I totally agree, LK....I can't sing a note in tune but I'm sure I could talk over a backbeat. By the way, do you know why punk/goth rock was invented? So ugly kids could be popular too Grin

I had the same issue with Admire early on, it did produce a "had an affair memory". It was my very first family and the wife, wanting to get ahead admired a coworker she brought home. Her husband went ballistic and their relationship took a huge hit. I was stunned. Perhaps it was fixed in the patch?

I had the same thing happen. Cassandra had brought home a co-worker and wanting to bump up their friendship for a promotion, I had her "admire" him. Don immediately went over and smacked her around and she had the "affair" memory. I can't remember if this was before or after I had Uni...I believe before.

You know I heard a rumour that linedancing is how the Nazi party got started. Grin

Have you ever seen one of those old British propoganda tapes from the war, where they spliced footage of a Nazi parade and played some of it backward, so it looked like they were linedancing? Hilarious.

I've never seen that but it sounds great. My other favorite "rumour" (ok, I'm stealing some comedian's bit here) is that rap "music " actually was originally started by the "callers" of square dancing.

Hmmm..interesting to know. I don't think I've ever had problems with a house in the bin before but maybe I just attributed whatever glitchiness (is that a word? can it please be a word?) to the game in general. I re-installed TS2 and Uni just about 2 months ago because I was tired of the sims I was playing, so the houses defintely weren't pre-patch saved.
By the way, I did try deleting both the sims, saving, exiting back to the neighborhood, then back to the lot again but it didn't help. I'm thinking maybe I should move them to another lot and see what happens but I'm not up to building/decorating or color-coordinating tonight. Shocked

Thank you, "Paranoid as well" Wink. I think we're on to something...
You're cat looks like my cat. Bow and all at Christmas-time!

We nicknamed him "Spawn"...as in "Spawn of Satan."  Wink

yes, I *SAVED* and actually exited the game after upgrading them and moving them out (as I was being badgered by a merciless 12 yr old wanting to use the computer i.e. my daughter).
Losing state data...sounds scary...probably because I have no idea what that means but I will (of course) take your advice and try that next time.

Yay! Someone answered!
*ahem*
I mean, that's a good idea. I will try that when I get home this evening. (Lurking from work at the moment  Cheesy)

I've been wondering the same thing; I downloaded a couple of lots from the exchange the other day and I saw the Ailenware and the Everything but the Warez too....on both the lots I downloaded. I didn't install anything but the Lot Segment but was highly suspicious of what the other two things were. I know on the official website there is an Ailenware computer done by one of the Maxoids but I was suspicous because the houses were supposed to be unoccupied and unfurnished. Call me paranoid as well.
491  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Glitch/Bug/WTF? on: 2005 August 08, 18:57:07
If this is idiotic, I apoligize in advance.
I will try to be concise....well, at least clear, in explaining the problem I'm having.
1. My own neighborhood, legacy challenge, second generation.
2. Legacy family spare to the heir, Cheyenne has a crush on George McCarthy.
3. Cheyenne grows into an adult so I have her invite George over, boolprop him into the family and age transition to an adult. I then turned off boolprop.
4. I use the FFS Debugger to upgrade their pre-uni status.
5. I have them move out.
6. I place a house from the lot bin (one of the originals from the game) and move them in...upon which the load screen "loads" for at least 5-6 minutes, at which point I exit the game because it's clear it's just spinning its wheels.
7. Restart the game and see that indeed George and Cheyenne are living in the house.
8. Enter the house, no problems loading but George and Cheyenne are just standing outside the house, frozen. I click on Cheyenne and see she only has 4 wants, not the 6 she had been upgraded to. Click on George and he has 5 (not 4, not 6, but 5) want slots that are spinning continuously so I figure that's why they are frozen.
9. Exit the lot, move them back into the family bin and then back into the house.
10. Enter the lot, they are fine, not frozen, totally plabyable.
What's the problem then? She still only has 4 wants and he still has that odd number of 5 (it is 5, not 6 with a blank want, just 5 slots)....I bought the FFS Debugger and there isn't an option to upgrade either one of them.
So I am perplexed....anyone have an idea what could have caused this or have this happen to them? Should I move them to another lot or should I just let them hobble through their little Sim lives with limited want slots?

Thank you for the quick answer and help....not to mention the laugh I had over ME trying to figure out how to do something YOU don't know how to do.
495  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Replacing neighborhood picture on: 2005 July 29, 17:30:53
Quick question (feel free to ridicule): I created my own neighborhood and I would like to replace the picture that is there when I open the game. Currently it shows some kind of graph/grid  looking thing (I guess it's a mesh of the terrain the neighborhood is built on) and I would like it to show a picture of the neighborhood like the ones from Pleasantview/Strangetown/Veronville. I have no idea how to go about doing this.

I hope that was coherant.
496  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: HUZZAH! Banned from Rentech.com! on: 2005 July 29, 15:09:10
Okay, not to stir the pot (oh who am I kidding, let's stir the pot) here is a quote from Rentench's official post regarding bans:

"I have recently had numerous PM's requesting that this site post a banning list of who we have banned and why a person was banned. There are a few reasons we don't do this, but the main reason is that we do not ban people from this site, so a list would just be a waste of resources - a database search that returned nothing. If this site did ban it would not require a list for you to view - you can go look at any users profile and see their status."
She further states how banning is against policy and no one is ever banned, some people just cannot post:

"So if anyone has complained to you that they are ‘banned' from this site, and in turn asked you to question that ‘banning' for them, you can give them a very simple answer: Variousimmers does not place people on banned status from the site. Many people prefer to claim ‘banned' since it tends to make people angry and feel they are unfairly treating a user or are not willing to admit what they have done wrong to warrant being on moderated or read-only status. We make very sure that users always have access to read the forums and to download, no matter what they may have done that lost them the right to post."

So you see JM, you must not be "banned", you just want to "make people angry" Grin

Sounds like Maxis has found it's new slogan!

Dare I admit I don't send most of my teens to Uni because I find it unbearably tedious? (even with hacks to speed the process up) Roll Eyes
