426  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: A question I really hate to ask but..... on: 2005 September 30, 15:41:53
Ok, that's pretty much what I thought (so I'm not as stupid as I thought I might be Grin) about the character data being lost, I kind of suspected that was the case. As for Bella, I have read so many posts about the "I am dead" token, I kind of took it for granted that she would be "dead" and had thought that she would be resurrectable in the game now. Oh well. I would love to be able to look over your shoulder Ancient Sim and see how you work all the ins and outs of Simpe Smiley
427  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / A question I really hate to ask but..... on: 2005 September 30, 15:24:01
I have been reading posts regarding how much easier it is to resurrect dead relatives with the advent of NL so last night I decided that I would have Cassandra resurrect Mortimer and Bella; when I had her use the phone to call the Grim Reaper, only the Crumplebottoms showed in the panel for family to be resurrected. I looked at Cassandra's family tree and both Mortimer and Bella are still in colored, not greyed out, pictures. Then I remembered that when I installed the game, my daughter for whatever reason deleted Mortimer, so that would make sense because he didn't die, he got deleted but (this is the part I really hate to ask) what about Bella? Is she still shown in color because she's "missing" and not dead?
Another question, I can't resurrect anyone that Olive Spectre knew(she gets the message from the Grim Reaper, "you don't know anyone who died, keep it up and I might come visit you") is it because I deleted all the headstones? I had no problems resurrecting Skip Broke despite the fact there isn't a headstone for him.
Sorry if these are stupid questions but I really am just curious to know.
428  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bump Mapping works with my Gforce 6800GT & Nightlife. on: 2005 September 30, 15:06:27
It's for the blue menus where you see the sim's picture and the stats etc. With Transparency on it's partially see through, with it off it's solid blue. I'm not sure if it makes a difference in how the game runs or not, but I keep mine off.
Oh okay...thanks Motoki. Smiley
429  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bump Mapping works with my Gforce 6800GT & Nightlife. on: 2005 September 30, 14:35:25
Smoothing edges makes the edges less jagged. If you have the smooth edges slider all the way in the low end, when you look at something like walls in the game, the edges look jagged, kind of like a saw. When you slide it all the way up, the edges look very smooth and straight, but it's more demanding on your computer graphics.

That's pretty much what I thought but I wasn't sure. Can anyone tell me what the UI Transparency setting is for in the options? It is set to off by default in my game.
430  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bump Mapping works with my Gforce 6800GT & Nightlife. on: 2005 September 29, 18:03:36
I don't know what bump-mapping is either, but I did some test or other that I found on a site and it appears I don't have it.  Have no idea what anti-aliasing is either, or smooth edges (which are greyed-out in my game).

Okay since we are exposing our ignorance to one another here....what is the more/less smooth edges option? Mine is set to low by default but so were all my other settings since installing NL (I have a Nvidea GeForceFX5200FT 128DDR, 2.167 ghz AMD Athlon, 160 GB HD and 512 mb). I tweaked all of the settings to high except the smooth edges bit (since I don't know what it does) and have been wanting to ask someone what the UI (something) setting is? Mine is off by default but I don't know what it does so I haven't touched it. Would someone mind explaining that to me?
431  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Unrotateable Objects on: 2005 September 28, 14:13:18
FFS lot debugger is one I know of.
Right, it can only be placed as if it were a floor tile, although the options on it seem to work just fine.
432  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Nightlife bugs on: 2005 September 27, 16:21:50
Don't know if this is a bug or not, but it sounds as if it's akin to the handheld/scanner problem.  I had a Sim buy coffee for the Contessa (who she was friends with, but not best friends) and they both developed crushes on each other.  I am resisting the temptation to turn it into love because the Contessa is totally turned-off by my Sim (she is always going on about it), although they are now best friends and get on very well platonically.  Neither has attempted any romantic interactions on the other since the crush and somehow I don't think they're going to.  I don't know if it's the lack of chemistry that's stopping the biting, but I'm getting nowhere fast on that.

I am quite happy to use this facility to create crushes with Sims who have chemistry, but it shouldn't be happening with those who don't, which is what leads me to assume it's a glitch rather than part of the intended gameplay.

I had this happen the other night while I was playing too. I had Nervous Subject go downtown to try and find a suitable mate. He was striking out left and right, no luck at all. Pascal Curious showed up on the lot so I thought, "well, they're friends, they can get a cup of coffee and chat." So I had Nervous buy a cup of expresso for Pascal, next thing I know, Nervous has a crush on Pascal. Obviously, this is not what I had intended. I think this is such a stupid bug/glitch/"feature"/whatever. While Pascal and Nervous might make a lovely couple, that wasn't the way I wanted it to go. This really needs to be fixed.
433  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What do YOU do with your platinum people? on: 2005 September 27, 16:11:32
Perma Plat is kind of boring in regular play, but it's great in Legacy families. "Perma plat? THANK GOD. I never have to worry about you again!"

Yep, once my elder sims were in Perma Plat in my Legacy family I was like thank goodness, now you can play that guitar/drumset/bass until your fingers fall off, for all I care and I can focus on the rest of the family. I also use JM's lot debugger to reroll their LTWs and had them switch careers if I could (some sims have one LTW and when it's done, they don't get another one in its place). But as Hook said, if they are in Perma Plat and have all their skills, high relationship scores, it's hard to keep them interesting.
434  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Blind dates and family trees on: 2005 September 23, 20:29:06
No, this isn't an incestuous issue.

You always crack me up; yes, I was cringing when I opened this thread and waiting for the "the matchmaker set my sim up with her uncle/cousin/brother" scenario. Shocked
435  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Another hack question on: 2005 September 22, 16:15:52
I totally agree. Most kids from the age of 5 or so can make a bowl of cereal or a sandwich. By the time I was ten I was cooking mac & cheese and hot dogs (without a microwave..we didn't have those in the '70s Grin). It's silly that in this day and age to think a kid wouldn't be able to not only prepare cold foods but a few microwavable ones too (tv dinner anyone?).
436  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Hurricane Katrina on: 2005 September 21, 15:09:46
My first husband would look at the wall/tv/stare off into space, anything other then look directely at me when talking (now you know why he was my first husband!), so I was actually somewhat uncomfortable with how when I met the man I am now married to, made direct eye contact at all times when talking to me. The reason for the unwavering eye contact? He said when he was a younger man, he was talking to a very beautiful woman who suddenly, but very gently, cupped his chin in her hand, raised it up, looked directly into his eyes and said, "no matter what you say, they won't talk back", lol. He said he never forgot that and always made sure to address a woman "from the neck up" from that point on. Cheesy
437  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Another hack question on: 2005 September 21, 14:44:50
Thank you Jordi. I kept looking at the smartserve.package in my hacks folder and thinking it was one that one (I should not delete the RTFMs). Grin
438  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Another hack question on: 2005 September 21, 14:26:37
A couple of months ago I downloaded a hack that enables children to serve meals/make meals for themselves. I think it was by dizzy but I'm not absolutely sure. I removed all of my hacks before I installed NL but for the life of me, I can't remember the name of this particular hack. Does anyone know the one I'm referring to and if it is compatible with NL? I really miss this one!
439  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Clothingtool hack working Dr. Boris? on: 2005 September 21, 14:08:07
Any idea if the clothingtool package works? It was not on the list and I love it.

Thanks,
Twink

The clothingtool is working just fine in my game; as an added bonus, no more scrolling through outfit selections, it shows all outfits (by everyday, underwear, etc.,) your sim has in its closet on one screen. It is indeed, More Awesome Than I.
440  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: The Lotdebugger tool on: 2005 September 21, 00:39:24
It appears to be working for me as well.
441  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: The boycot worked! on: 2005 September 21, 00:38:31
Darn.  When you said that "the boycott worked," I thought you meant that they were releasing the patch...

Same here.
442  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: "Watch Out!" Stupid Driveway... on: 2005 September 20, 19:49:07
Bah. If it were up to me, there'd be the uncancellable interaction called "Road Waffle!", and a new ghost look to go with it.

The ghost should be flat with a black tire mark running bottom to top. Smiley

Hook

I am having visions of that one ghost in "Beetlejuice." lol
443  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Nightlife bugs on: 2005 September 20, 17:49:31
Do you have the 'pee yellow' hack?  I read that this creates problems with the headstones all becoming platinum regardless of death type and other death related things.  I don't know how, but I read about it over at MTS2.

Nope, never have had that particular hack. I removed all hacks before I installed NL and I'm slowly putting hacks back in based on lists given by Boris and TwoJeffs.

It also sounds a lot like band or scout minutes.

As my son just entered high school this year and joined marching band, this really caused me to laugh. I think part of being a band instructor is to have no sense of real world time.
445  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Nightlife bugs on: 2005 September 20, 16:09:31
Not yet.  I'm gonna check on the hack situation, then resort to firing/rehiring.

Not sure why I'd need to do that though, the maid still (kinda) does her job.

My maid doesn't; he meanders around a bit, cleans a toilet or two and then declares he's leaving for the day...leaving spoiled food on the table, old newspapers and misc. other garbage laying around.
446  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Thanks Dr Boris! - Zeus arrived! on: 2005 September 20, 14:51:30
I really appreciate the list so much thanks goes out to Boris. I was just too darned nervous to use any hacks based solely on other users saying it didn't appear to cause problems, so this solves that issue and I can fix the damned whatsthis, abortable bed making, and clothes browsing that drive me insane. Inge has a lesswhiny type hack, so all we need now is the big one, the mother of all hacks, the phonehack, which to avoid getting shot I will just say I am, ahem, patiently waiting for. Well if you consider constantly screaming at the damned game and selling their phone and cells back patiently. Wink

Could someone please post a link to this list? I seem to have missed it. Thanks!

447  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: The No Pork Chops Eyeshadow? on: 2005 September 19, 20:51:18
I don't know if there is any truth to it but yes, I have read about a custom eyeshadow that for whatever reason does away with the pork chops option. I have no idea why, how it would do it or why anyone make such a thing.
448  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Nightlife bugs on: 2005 September 19, 18:30:17
One more thing: after using a mirror to "change appearance" on a sim, their clothes in their pictures appear all blurry, looking truely terrible. Same thing when using JM's buy at home clothingtool. I don't know if this is related to the large, overbloated wants/fears/memories pictures. Anyone else experience this?
449  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Nightlife bugs on: 2005 September 19, 17:28:56
I just bought NL on Friday, installed it on Saturday. Count me in with the people who have never used the "maxMotives" cheat (actually never heard of it before I read this thread)  and having visitors being greeted then the "wow! look at the time, gotta go" box pop up.
Also having the same problem with the graphics constantly resetting to default (lowest/off) every time the game is started even though my game runs fine when I reset them to higher settings. Very annoying to have to reset them every time.
I am also having a few sims (either born in-game sims or formerly NPC sims) with blank want slots.
The karoke is working pretty well, although I can barely hear my sims singing over the music (even after tweaking the audio settings).
I'm really happy to see a Maxoid visiting these boards, responding to questions and (hopefully Grin) taking note of the problems we are having. Thank you, MaxoidTom.
450  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: So what's been fixed in NL on: 2005 September 15, 17:21:34
Someone brought this up on page 2, the money trees. I had started the Legacy Challenge, had approximately 8 of them on my lot to help my poor sims from starving to death, of course the game completely crashed. I have never found a fix for this, not even the savethetrees hack works.
Someone else mentioned something else I have seen constantly, sims standing in one spot, shaking/quivering/whatever you want to call it; what the heck is that??
How about disappearing stereos but can still hear the music playing? Anyone else have that one? On two different lots I have placed stereos and actually saw them like evaporate but could still hear the music.

I'll mention the money trees to someone.

As for the quivering, I thought that was a bug too, until someone told me that sims become like that when they drink expresso.

no, no expresso involved...oh well, it's a minor issue.
